US investors keen on Vietnamese securities market
Investment opportunities in the Vietnamese Stock Exchange was the main topic of a conference held by JP Morgan Chase in New York recently to assist US investors keen on the Asian nation.
The giant financial group invited Pham Bich Van, chief executive officer of the Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Bank (Sacombank) to talk over chances to invest in the young Vietnamese securities market Monday.
After her presentation, more than 20 investors met Van to learn more about specific opportunities with Sacombank, which in July became the first lender to trade its shares on the exchange.
The agenda of Tuesday, the second day of the 11th annual conference on securities investment in Asia-Pacific, included a session on Vietnam, presided over by David G. Fernandez, Head, Emerging Asia Economic Research of JP Morgan.
At the conference, Dominic Scriven, co-founder of the UK-based investment fund management firm Dragon Capital, and Vietnamese veteran expert Le Dang Doanh presented topics on the Vietnamese economy.
Both lecturers told some 100 participating investors about Vietnam’s high growth, its stable macro economy and politics, as well as its advantages, like convenient geographical location, young and trained labor force, and fast-developed stock trading market.
The participants raised many questions about legal environment, the progress of privatizing State-owned enterprises, and the rights of foreign investors in privatized companies if they are allowed to buy only 30 percent of that company’s shares.
Vietnam’s financial system currently fails to match the country’s economic growth, while its insurance and banking sectors are still underdeveloped.
In addition, the progress of turning State-owned businesses into share-holding companies has proceeded slowly.
But if these problems are tackled they would become opportunities to attract finance investors from New York, the lecturers said.
Talking with Le Dang Doanh, a JP Morgan senior official stressed several investors are now very keen on Vietnam and this is a great opportunity for the country.
“I hope Vietnam will offer favorable conditions and speed up the privatization of SOEs’ to bring more goods on the securities market to meet the increased demands of stock traders. Don’t miss this chance,” he said.
JP Morgan planned to send a research director to Vietnam next month to further survey the Vietnamese stock exchange market as preparation for a similar conference, due to be held in Beijing April next year.
After the conference, the financial group leaders are scheduled to fly to Vietnam for an official visit.
SURIUG,
Yup you got that right..I didn't even know we merge with Comstock Coal before..Thanks for that info..
I am sticking with the info on the ibox that the company provided to the public..They can not mislead the public else like Sirius said it would hit them with all kinds of lawsuits..
If anyone here is a good friend of Ron, maybe you can do us a favor and find out about this issue..Sure this is a good question to IR but I doubt we will get an answer..
Again thanks for contributing to this board..
You are right Walt...Monday is another month and it brings us alot closer to our main goal like WTO and senior listings..
So time to hold cavico and watch it unfold..
I learned alot about TKO on the yahoo board, like agora and murphy as well as the stocklemon..lol
How did I discover TKO? Well, I was just surfing on MSN/CNBC finance section for any type technologies that is about to breakthrough and unheard or unseen by most people when one of the reporter mention about bpl/plc..
That idea of having the internet over the powerline just blew my mind away because of the huge potential this technology can be..so I started researching about companies like ABTG, NETGEAR, TMXO, UPDA and TKO..
Although I did invest on these companies like ABTG ( made some money ), TMXO (lost some money), UPDA (lost money) I choose TKO for the long haul because of their footprints and have alot of patents regarding this technology..I am still down and not out on TKO but deep down I know that I will get it all back and maybe triple or better my investment when things will fall into their proper perspective..Lately, I am considering to re-invest with Ambient because this guys have some good things going for them but any progress will likely may see it til next year..so I am keeping on eye on ABTG..IMO, having invested in ABTG AND TKO is like having invested in FEDEX AND UPS at the same time or having two slices of the pie so to speak..
My only disappointment as far as TKO goes is having invested in at the wrong time..
here's our second opinion for last week...notice the TA, they are in the bullish trend except 200ma..
I am looking forward to see their report this up coming week as we anticipate a news or two..

OT---Speaking of Homeland Security---
FUNNY LOOK AT SERIOUS SITUATION
The Honorable Paul S. Sarbanes
309 Hart Senate Office
Building Washington DC, 20510
Dear Senator Sarbanes:
As a native Californian and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance.
I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an
illegal alien and they referred me to you.
My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S.Citizen to illegal alien stem from the bill which was
recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is accurate,
as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000
fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious
to get the process started before everyone figures it out.
Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I'm excited about the prospect
of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively?
This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.
Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency room as my primary health care provider.
Once I have stopped paying premiums for medical insurance,my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year.
Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her
law school applications, as well as "in-state" tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son.
Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car insurance
premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have college age children driving my car.
If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be
most appreciative.
Thank you for your assistance.
Your Loyal Constituent,
Gene Baker

Dont really know how to answer your question..Is just that earlier today when I was doing my research, I came across something about Level 3 getting a homeland security from the gov't..

Thanks big money!!! greatly appreciated
How'd you come out with that calculation? TIA
I dont think BSD posted here before unless he using another aliases that I wasn't aware of..

AH HA......If TKO and Level 3 are doing something that we dont know of or if there is a connection between these two companies, then I think this might be one the pieces of that puzzle that we're trying to put through..
OK..Sirius, do you know if TKO and Level 3 communication have something in the work that you know of????
heres some news that I got from Mark..
Cavico Subsidiary Sells 5% Stake to Hanoi Building Bank in Preparation for Domestic Listing on the Vietnamese Stock Exchange
LOS ANGELES, CA, and HANOI, VIETNAM -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 28, 2006 -- Cavico Corporation (PINKSHEETS: CVCP), a Vietnamese company working in the fields of infrastructure development, including the construction of hydropower facilities, dams, bridges, roads, mines and urban buildings throughout Vietnam and the Pacific Rim, announced today that its Cavico Mining subsidiary, which is 50 percent owned by Cavico Corporation, sold a 5% stake to Hanoi Building Bank. The bank paid face value of 1.55 billion dong ($96,660) for the stake. The firm has a registered capital value of $1.94 million.
Cavico Mining Director Hua Thanh Binh said, "We are completing the paperwork to apply soon for a license on a share listing." According to Vietnamese State media on Tuesday, Hanoi Building Bank's General Director Bui Thi Mai said that taking a stake in Cavico Mining was part of the bank's strategy to diversify its business.
Bui Quang Ha, CEO of Cavico Corporation, said, "The sale of a minority stake in Cavico Mining is a first step in listing the subsidiary on the Vietnamese Stock Exchange. This is something that we feel will be valuable not only to Cavico Mining stakeholders, but also to Cavico Corporation shareholders. Maximizing the value of Cavico and its operations is our primary goal. We are striving to bring increased value to our shareholders through diversification of ownership, listing of subsidiary companies on the national exchange, attraction of U.S. investment capital and our continued organic expansion throughout Vietnam."
On August 12, the Boston Globe reported in an article that, "The government has a stated plan to attract $25 billion in direct foreign investment over the next five years, and investors poured $5.8 billion into Vietnam last year alone, helping the economy grow 8.5 percent and making it one of Asia's hottest, according to the Asian Development Bank."

Telkonet, Inc., the US-based leader in providing in-building broadband access over existing electrical wiring, reports that its Telkonet iWire System™ has been deployed in the Royal Oak, an award-winning restaurant with 5-star accommodation in East Lavant, Sussex. The system was installed by UK specialist Systemax Communications, to provide economical high speed Internet access and data networking throughout the small, up-market 8-bedroom venue, which is spread across four separate buildings.
Im here with you..I aint going nowhere til we get listed on the senior listing..lol
Sirius, remember i asked if you came accross with systemax the other day??? well here some article dated Sept 22, 2006..
Telkonet iWire System Creates Network Backbone for the Royal Oak
Telkonet, Inc., the US-based leader in providing in-building broadband access over existing electrical wiring, reports that its Telkonet iWire System™ has been deployed in the Royal Oak, an award-winning restaurant with 5-star accommodation in East Lavant, Sussex. The system was installed by UK specialist Systemax Communications, to provide economical high speed Internet access and data networking throughout the small, up-market 8-bedroom venue, which is spread across four separate buildings.
Strong market demand from the venue's corporate clientele for broadband Internet access triggered the installation of the Telkonet iWire System™. This utilises the building's existing electrical wiring to distribute high-speed Internet and data access - turning power sockets into data ports - with guests connecting their laptops via Telkonet iBridge™ interface units, which have been installed in each room.
The Royal Oak is located in a quiet, picturesque village, close to the leisure and event facilities at Goodwood, with the home of Rolls Royce Motor Cars also nearby, generating significant patronage for the venue. Craig Eldridge, a chef at the Royal Oak, and the venue's IT champion, explained their choice of the Telkonet system:
"WiFi seemed an obvious candidate at first, but concerns were raised over its viability, due to the presence of lead-covered roofs, plus metal railings around a large balcony area, and the sheer quantity of metal in the kitchen's catering equipment and air extraction system. Achieving adequate wireless coverage would have taken the cost to an uncompetitive level, and we were also nervous about WiFi's security aspects, as we could not afford our clients to feel that their communications were anything less than rock-solid secure. Our preferred solution also had to minimise the need for any technical support, as our clients would not appreciate us delving into their laptops to help them connect. Fortunately, Telkonet's solution does not require this degree of support, and our first client to try the system ran downstairs into the kitchen to tell us how pleased he was that he'd connected so easily!"
The Telkonet iWire System's network backbone capability is also providing additional benefits to the Royal Oak, as it is being used to connect the venue's NFS room reservation system and is also scheduled to encompass its Comtrex restaurant ordering system. Following the success of the Telkonet installation at the Royal Oak, owner Nick Sutherland has engaged Systemax to deploy the same solution at another of his venues, Trents, in the nearby cathedral town of Chichester. Trents has 6 guest rooms, all furnished and equipped to the same standard as the Royal Oak, plus a busy drop-in bar, and is repeating the Royal Oak's formula in a more urban setting. Each guest room will have a Telkonet iBridge to provide the secure Internet connection, and a further iBridge is being installed to feed a WiFi hotspot in the bar area for casual users, underlining the overall flexibility of the system. These two installations also emphasise the suitability of the Telkonet system for the widest range of venues and building types. Combining high-speed Internet access with the ability to incorporate other IP devices into the same data backbone - such as wireless access points, PoS systems and surveillance cameras - provides a very high degree of flexibility and allows for long-term expansion without additional wiring.
Systemax Communications' Mike Coakley commented:
"Telkonet's solution is extremely straightforward. Its inherent scalability makes it very suitable for this kind of multi-building site, and if further rooms are added in the future, they will be Internet-enabled automatically via the power circuits. As a systems integrator and installer, our company values Telkonet's solution very highly - compared to the alternatives of CAT 5 cabling and wireless, this system wins for us on the grounds of simplicity, security, economy and reliability. It is also very quick to install. At the Royal Oak, we worked around the restaurant opening times to complete the initial installation in 3 hours! This was achieved without disturbance to the restaurant or any of the guest rooms. Each room has a Telkonet iBridge, which provides the connection to the Telkonet backbone from a guest's laptop, and connecting is quick, simple and hassle-free."
