"More than half of the Native Hawaiian veterans volunteered for duty in Vietnam
to obtain opportunities for education, jobs, and travel,
and they were proud to protect their home and country.
Many re-enlisted and served more than one tour, and many
attained the rank of noncommissioned officer.
They tended to value the training and discipline
of military service but often felt isolated
from their fellow soldiers.
Many faced close and personal racial prejudice and discrimination
for the first time and felt disillusioned and angry when they encountered
racial hostility or disrespect.
... never could unnerstand that chit.
War is to the psych of a nation
as standing in a downpour is
for the common cold.
"The Matsunaga Study's key finding
is that exposure to war zone stress and other military danger
places veterans at risk for PTSD several decades after
military service.
Native Hawaiian and American Indian Vietnam in-country veterans
had relatively high levels of exposure to war zone stress and
high levels of PTSD.
Caucasian and Japanese American veterans tended to have
somewhat lower levels of exposure to war zone stress and later
PTSD."

FA, you mean you don't look for pennies, watch
you don't step on cracks in the sidewalk
or avoid the glare of eyes that dare to look
at you, closely?
Trader, am a bit thick, sometimes, could you
please explain your post to me?
Just don't unnerstand how you
found agreement in there?
Could you possibly just give me one specific
bit of evidence that could sway a jury of
rested, reasonable and responsible citizens?
struth, over the last 50+ years I have really attempted to come to grips
with the Christian belief, but, the idea that a human female can become
with child on a spiritual breath and that a human being can walk on water,
in the liquid state has ever stumped me.
Since your common sense is a result of your nature, nurture, enviornment,
education and interests and I'd assume is in agreement with many revered
and special human beings, including Jesus, is it logical and reasonable to believe
that the few words in the Bible attributed to Jesus come from his enviornment,
education and reading rather than from out of the sky?
Which seems most likely on the balance of probability, as we
know it?
Or, are all those considerations just bound up in the
"leap of faith", which some talk about?
Dispirited, angry US electorate going to the polls
"US voters go to the polls in congressional elections next month divided between dispirited
backers of President George W. Bush's Republican Party and Democrats eager to register their anger.
"(Americans) are unhappy about lots of things," said Larry Sabato of the University of Virginia's
Center for Politics. "They believe the country is on the wrong track."
...Republicans are bracing for a potential election night disaster on November 7, when 435 seats
in the House of Representatives and one-third of the 100 seats in the Senate are at stake.
"When you talk to Republican pollsters and strategists, the nicest word you can come up
with is 'despondent,'" ... Charlie Cook. "This is going to be really bad."
...Iraq conflict is the number one issue ...
Voters had assumed that Iraq would be a shorter commitment that would cost a fraction of the hundreds
of billion of dollars spent so far and claim far fewer Iraqi and US lives, analysts said.
"Since 2004, we've become much more pessimistic about Iraq," said Sabato. "We can't see the light
at the end of the tunnel. It's hard to see the tunnel it's so dark."
.. no longer just liberal Democrats railing against the war: A poll by the Pew Research Center
found that Americans who think the war is going well fell from 47 percent in September
to 37 percent in October, with the biggest drop among conservative Republicans,
independents and conservative-to-moderate Democrats. ...
But political observers say Iraq is just one of many factors. "Part of it is Iraq,
part of it is gas prices, part of it is that wages aren't keeping up with productivity,", said Sabato.
...Pew Institute ... Women threw their support behind Bush after the September 11, 2001
attacks on the United States but they are leaning Democrat now by a margin of 55 percent
to 34 percent.
In another recent Pew poll, only 49 percent of conservative Christians said they believe
the Republican Party is favorable to religion, a drop of 14 points in one year.
... continuing parade of scandals that have mostly affected Republicans and led to the departure
of three powerful Republican congressmen including former House Majority leader Tom DeLay of Texas.
... also ... a sex scandal involving a veteran Republican lawmaker and his sexually
explicit messages to teenage boys.
All of this amounts to an uphill slog for Republicans seeking to hold onto power, especially
in the House, where most polls show the Democrats well-positioned to win, even if not
on the merits of their own accomplishments.
Republicans have narrowly controlled the House since 1994 and have kept a tight grip on the Senate
for most of Bush's presidency.
But the opposition party is now within striking distance of winning back the House and possibly
even the Senate. Democrats need a net gain of 15 seats to wrest control of the House and a six-seat
gain to take over the Senate.
Turnout is expected to be high for a mid-term election and Democratic voters appear
to be particularly motivated after six years of a Bush presidency.

"The troops have figured out that they are not there for the reason stated by the President -
93% recognize they are not there to remove weapons of mass destruction.
The vast majority (76%) also do not believe that the United States is establishing
a democracy that can be a model for the Arab world. But they do not accept
that securing oil was the major purpose - only 11% accept that rationale.
Sadly, the Pentagon dismissed the findings saying "It shouldn't surprise
anybody that a deployed soldier would rather be at home than deployed."
And, "I don't think anybody is getting alarmed over any one
poll."
The message they are sending to the soldiers is that their commanders
are not listening to the troops on the ground."
WHICH IS A MESSAGE WHEICH THEY REALLY DO NOT
NEED TO SEND AS IT HAS BEEN OBVIOUS FOR A TIME.
Brainless, just don't figure you.
Yes, I did go to the dictionary to check the meaning, as I told you and do it
a lot just to check whether or not my understanding of a word is correct,
and I made that clear.

Assume you speaking of Kafir, just noticed that it is also spelt with one "f",
sorry about that, but, wonder why such a fuss? Just went to the dictionary
to check the the meaning of the word kafir and saw it in bold with 2 ff's
and in my rush missed the little one, at the end with one"f".
IT IS BEYOND ME WHY YOU WOULD ASK ...

but fuagf, did you not know what kuffir meant?
YES, BRAIN AS I SAID TO YOU I HAD AN IDEA WHAT IT MEANT, BUT, WAS
NOT SURE OF THE EXACT MEANING ... I TOLD YOU ALREADY ...
WHY ASK AGAIN??? ... BRAIN, I AM NOT HAVING A GO AT YOU FOR ANYTHING A
ND HAVEN'T ANYWHERE IN THE STREAM ...ALL I DID WAS CHECK WITH YOU ABOUT
THE SPELLING ..
AND STILL NOT SURE IF THE SINGULAR "F", FORM ONLY REFERS TO THE
DEFINITION OF "KAFIR" AS IT PERTAINS TO CORN ...
no Stewie, no need to say it!
"what purpose was there to llookk it up in the dictionary"
MAYDAY MATDAY MAYDAY ...BRAIN I REPEAT AD NAUSEUM ...
I CHECKED THE MEANING BECAUSE I WASN'T SURE OF THE MEANING.
I CHECKED THE MEANING BECAUSE I WASN'T SURE OF THE MEANING.
I CHECKED THE MEANING BECAUSE I WASN'T SURE OF THE MEANING.
Now, can we move on?
I checked the spelling with you, in the spirit of a cooperative
attempt to get it right.
I was not having a go at you.
Maybe I made a mistake assuming that you knew what it meant.
Please, when you used the word initially did you or did you not know
the meaning? I WAS NOT SURE AND INITIALLY TOLD YOU THAT.
Just yes or no, did you always know the meaning?
Just yes or no, please??? or just change the subject or just
remain silent.
lovely sounds filled the sky

for sure it is a shame

Nite, all thankyou,
'twas lov a lee.
I didn't bloody "object" just simply told you what I saw in the dictionary
and that should have been the bloody end of it.
Why didn' t you just say something like ...oh not sure how to spell it,
or whatever, instead of the dribble you came out with?
Seriously, just why won't you answer the simplest and innocuous of questions?
me do every oneeeeeeeeeaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Ask just about anybody else a question and you get an answer;
it's polite conversation or debate, just common courtesy.
Where are you from?
me downunder.
Do you think there are any innocent kaffir children?
me answered earlier when you asked me, something like, yes, all
children are innocents.
That's 3 simple ones. Goodnight, lamb griller, spinach, butter beans, peas and bed.
"Woodward, ... wrote in his book that on July 10, 2001, Tenet briefed Rice
about a looming attack against the US by al-Qaeda
-- which according to Woodward was the first known instance that
an administration official was provided with specific details about
the terrorist organization's intentions.
Woodward wrote that Rice did not take Tenet's July briefing seriously
when Tenet and Cofer Black, then the CIA's chief of
counterterrorism, met with her at the White House.
... Woodward added that Tenet and Black considered the briefing
the "starkest warning they had given the White House" on the threat
posed by Osama bin Laden's terrorist network.
But,
Woodward wrote, Tenet and (Cofer Black ...my add)believed Rice
gave them "the brush-off."
... and so it was, how can the American reelect these people ... I know, at the ballot box and we know that is another story.
Atta girl, keep punching.
"For, now just go with the 3rd paragraph.
Now, no fighting, ok?"
Just assumed you knew what kaffir
meant, tha's all.
Later, maybe, late, again.
So on it goes ...
"you start these games and continue them."
..attach blame to other.
"it all stems from your original post."
.. don't remember how, but, will surely
"go back and read it." and will, to quote an old, suppose, favourite of yours, return.
I would never consider intentionally initiating the tone of the dick games
you play, but it is possible that you misinterpreted my sense of humour which
certainly differs greatly from yours, dunno, will check.
"games like which post? this post or that post?.", that's your kind of chit.
Don't understand why you said
"if you arent sure, read all your posts in the thread and see what you did."
as why should I read all my posts if I am fully aware of the general tone and feeling
of the thread and after all, your direction
"it all stems from your original post."
is very clear so I understood it even if you would pretend
that you didn't were our positions reversed.
Before I go back I'll bet you that we will have to agree to disagree on who started
whatever it is you want to call what was happening, but guessing you will never
be happy, as, you just some sort of head hunter and narky as shit, to boost.
Damn, chops will be overdone by now.

Won't bother to Google that's good enough for me and it just goes to show, with some people, you don't even have to ask simple questions to gain information and so more to consider in your quest for some sort of fuzzy enlightenment.
enlightenment
Have in the past expressed my impression that the U.S., just may be somewhat in danger of becoming something akin to a military dictatorship which is really a terrible, sad thought, but, seems closer to reality than many would even dare to contemplate. It is very difficult for most to give up long held faith in a perceived father-protector. I sympathise with those who have to struggle with that, but, WHEN THE SECURITY AND WELLBEING OF YOUR CHILDREN'S GRAND CHILDREN ARE AT RISK I THINK AMERICAN'S WE ALL REALLY HAVE TO DO SOME HEAVY SOUL SEARCHING.
WILL FORWARD YOUR VIDEO TO MANY, INCLUDING MY POOR FAMILY WHO FOR SOME FUNNY, INEXPLICABLE REASON THINK I'M A BIT WHACKO AND CARRIED AWAY BY CONSPIRACY THEORIES.
Oh well, guess we are all a bit deluded and is dead dark here, now at 2:03 am., just a bit ahead of you guys, into the future. That's dumb as we are all in the same moment, just differentiated by a human construct of time.
Man, put together all you guys are formidable opponents to those who want to join the ostriches with sand in their eyes and hate and inhumanity in thier pumps.
Really should go to bed, but, almost getting to late for that, shhhhhhhhhheezz, done this too much lately and swore I would get work more rest. Not sure which is best for the head.
Observed to a friend from Vietnam some years ago that there was more communism in Australia than there was in "communist", Vietnam and that it was terribly ironic that we and other "developed" nations were able to express our largesse to some of our citizens just because we have gained our wealth partly out of exploitation of both natural and human resources of poorer, so called 3rd world countries.
tic, as I was typing the baaloney bit the thought that you just expressed grew increasingly
in my mind and as I clicked the reply I 99% knew that my attempts to place you exactly
where you are were correct. I think it was you who posted the stuff I read before about the lack
of a paper trail, etc.
Thanks for the post, it was a good one and the stuff on Ohio, Florida and, think, Indiana
was, just, a bit more scarifying in the sense that it further wounded the sensibilities.
According to my dictionary ...
Kaffir .. it is capitalized ...
1. (derog.) a member of a South African Negroid race (knew it was from that used to be den of idiotic
racial and religious hatred and abuse, just had to check it out definitely) inhabiting parts
of the Cape of Good Hope, natal, etc.
2. (derog.) any South African negro.
3. a Bantu language.
4. (l.c.) ...don't know what that means .. Also, kaffir corn any of certain grain sorghums, varieties
of Sorghum biclor, with stour, short-jointed,, leafy stalks, cultivated in South Africa. Also Kafir.
[Ar. kafir .. with dot over the "a" .. unbeliever]
maybe, the single f is only good for the the corn, dunno.
We knew the guy was a racist and am guessing we know more about him now ...
reeks of old time, in a rut Afrikaaner, but, may be wrong.
He may clarify it for us, but, doubt it. Too bad.
"That oration kindled broad astonishment at the psychotic fixity of its key thesis: i.e., that U.S. troops are in Iraq to halt the spread of global terror (and not themselves a major stimulus thereto, as Bush's own intel establishment has bluntly noted).
That line has been disdained not only by the media but also by the GOP's top pundits and Congressional candidates, more and more of whom, the New York Times reported on September 3, "are disregarding Mr. Rove's advice.""
I TEND TO BELIEVE THAT THAT LINE HAS ALWAYS BEEN DISDAINED PRIVATELY BY THOSE THAT HAVE PROMULGATED IT.
Have never believed that Bush and his boys and, yeah, the odd female could not have foreseen the opposition which they say they did not expect to face and which they are are up against now, as it would have been glaringly obvious to any legit observer. They have Angola, Afghanistan and Vietnam in their intellectual histories and they know their opposition well as they have worked closely with many of them, in the past.
Am becoming convinced that the plan was always to break Iraq up and undo the Iraq which as formed in the birth of that
so called sovereign nation.
will read that, also, as have quite a lot on the subject before,
maybe your posts about no trace, ease of erasing records
and fixing ballots?
Don't really know if that is true or not, but nothing would surprise me,
any more, except Georgie Boy firing the Ch and da Rummy one.
The stench of the present danger boys, all about, is woeful.
I'll read your 3 pages ...
you tell me exactly what I said was baaloney,
that seems fair ...
Not October sunrise, but,

if he just got scared enough, but, guess maybe he even as President
is not strong, enough.
The bastards, just knew they were planning to break Iraq into three,
the old divide and conquer is alive and well.
If successful some puppets may just get caught up in the strings,
in the future.
Wonder whatever happened to Chalibi that fraudster they smuggled out of Lebanon
in the boot of a car and who is quoted as saying that he would never be interested
in being in government in Iraq. Is he still in charge of the oil ministry I wonder?
Easy to find out if nobody knows and will be shortly onto it if nobody beats me to it.
Yeah, niteowl, can see in the dark a smite, also,
just feeble opinion.
Hey, there was something I was going to post, I bumped
into some time back before wandering and wondering ...
http://www.youtube.com/
the "ONE Vote, Spot"
Nope, sorry, iamshazzam, did post lately that I would take the W, only, from it and be left with more tasteful yummy General Bakery brown bread on which could have a yummy tomato and lettuce sandwich, maybe a touch of gerkin, anchovie and, say, three thinnish slices of good ol' cheddar.
I engaged another, um, not sure whether a gentlemen as mick or not, just another from your board and have mentioned that some may see me as being in "enemy" territory, but, through life have gone many places where it has been suggested I shouldn't go and through experience normally have found the other's fears somewhat unfounded.
You may have bothered to read some of my posts by now, but, if not just thought I'd just introduce, myself, a bit.
Have, also, posted earlier that for about 52 years have felt sad and increasingly angry at the lack of candidness in our political people. Ours is no better than GWB's. Both of the major parties here bend the truth and support what I believe are unjustified and duplicitous wars. Both support arms races and the military industrial complex down here, though, of course, tiny compared to yours would be I'd say, be one of the fastest growing sectors if our economy, if not the fastest.
I am not a pacifist as once threatened to throw a kid off the balcony in the gymnasium of the new high school I went to in 1959, when he called my older sister a slut. Lucky my bluff worked. Don't get riled easily, but, watch out for the words if anybody acts like a dick head to the point where exasperation takes the place of attempts at accommodation.
Think it is accepted by most now, even where self denial and rationalization abound, that the Iraqi thing has been a disaster for all except those of the Bin Laden ilk and would be absolutely devastated if I had to watch the list of Americans killed, over there, every day on tv. Heh, on a tv show just now a witness in a court martial against an Admiral is saying that, earlier, only about 10% of U.S. troops in Iraq faced front line combat, but, now the support functions were being contracted out to civilians and "most most of the troops now were front line and the front line is everywhere. Seems anti-war sensitivities are gaining foothold in Hollywood, or wherever. Just political, maybe, but, for me better than nothing.
In '91 got kicked out of the lobby of a luxury hotel in Sydney when, on the way home from beers in The Rocks with friends, I walked onto the marble floor and yelled, "Stop the War", at the height of my emancipated lungs. After a few hearty encores, black suits appeared from nowhere and everywhere and out I went to happily continue the road home.
Over the years have been labelled anti American, but, only by those who have to resort to labels when they run out of constructive and legitimate debate. Facts are fairly forceful and jarring, to some, sometimes.
One of my problems is that I tend to wander and carry on too much, as you see. One of my bug bears are those few on the boards who steadfastly refuse to answer sincere and reasonable questions. To see what I mean, if you want, read a couple of my conversations with a brain on the turnip political board.
If you are a lasting acquaintance of mick's don't think we will have any problems, in fact have found those on this board, though politically at odds with myself, both, open and congenial and feel comfortable as per normal in your "enemy" territory.
Sadly, successive U.S. administrations have the need to have an enemy. It seems pretty central to the political philosophy and a necessity; perhaps, one reason would have something to do with the economy, another, powerful people and lobbies.
Read an interesting article lately that wars do not, in the long run offer lasting stimulus to economies, but, that that is just one of the many unfortunate myths that permeate and batter our straining psyches. Haven't checked it out, but, guess when wars do thankfully come to a conclusion there may be some sort of lull in much production and services, until the next time certain wealthy, powerful and misguided people decide to send more "run of the mill" citizens to death and devastation, in war.
Neither believe the present war in Iraq has been good for the Iraqi nation in their loss of some hundreds of thousands of lives, even more displaced and homeless and destruction of their health and economic infrastructure. Intellectual elite have, yet again fled this country which unfortunately for them sits on oil which is deemed to be so important to your nation and, "of couse" those nasty Arabs just can't be trusted to live with us and be friends; so some believe.
Have not a nationalistic thread in my psyche. Not a bit. Have often wondered why, but, don't any longer, just the way it is.
cheers, sire, your alias pretty well fits me as well as I guess it fits you.
brain, seems to me you are getting us stuck in the mud again with your weird sense of something or other.
How can you say or why would you say ...
"i dont know . what is the word kafir?"???
why not just use a dictionary, as I did to check, but then again you do know what it means.
Why these games?
Thought it would be obvious to you that it was your "how do you spell "takiya taqi'ya?", that I was referring
to that I did not understand and so did not know how to spell. It was that to which I was referring when
I said I may as well send you Polish or maybe Chinese or make something up and ask you if you could spell it.
Brain, this sort of stuff is a bloody waste of time and time is ffing precious. You ever picked fruit as a kid?
Don't you get tired of pickin'???
One more simple question to go with the ones, above and brain, if you can't be reasonable enough
or charitable enough or whatever to answer them, honestly and unashamedly as any normal decent person
would then am afraid we really don't have much else to say to each other at this time.
Would be a shame and a tiny bit sad, but, really am not going to play your games any more as nothing productive at all in it.
just seems kinda as fruitful as going outside and searching for flies, in the dark as you would understand.
Am giving you all the slack I can think of, brain, but, if continue to act like a dickhead, nothing really personal,
am relaxed and smiling, then so be it. you'll have to find somebody else to play in your sandpit with.
Cheers, boss, I'll just repeat the question that you asked me initially about whether or not I felt there
were any innocent kafir children, sometime later, but, this time I'll direct it at you. Not asking
now just giving you warning, please, consider what I have said above or am afraid my efforts
to engage you sensibly have, yet again, failed and I will just feel a little sorry about that. But, as we said before, ya can't winem all.
Right, Stewie? Yep.
Cheers, brain, stay out of the rain
and, come on, man, don't have to
always be a pain, don't have to always
do it again.
Impressive Simba and your're right, cheap entertainment.
Have seen I think 5 of them, one being Clockwork Orange,
a crazy film.
Shez, am out of it, with not even a DVD player hooked up.
Anybody else that out in left field?
Just recently more research suggests 2 glasses a day helps
keep, think it was, Alzheimer's, away.
Don't know who commissioned the research.
Tell you what, tomorrow after work i will walk up to
Marrickville, buy a steak and get some eggs on the walk
back 'ome.
Lot's of walking on the horizon, like our Johnny Howard.
Hey big bopper, what a good old song, just had to see what
year it was about ... I was 16, wow, long time ago.
I'll have a look for the Jane Manesfield, reply "That Makes It",
heh, I met the little lady, at UBC, in, guess early 60's.
The little trivia would interest some.

Have no idea at all whether or not your spelling is correct, no idea as never
seen it before. If you just made it up then still can't interpret it.
What point are you after, I could copy and past some Polish
for you, but, why would I bother?
Thanks, guys, morning.
