So what about him? Has he been charged with a crime? Has he been indicted?
From what I know:
"Vitter is unlikely to face criminal charges due to statutes of limitations.Vitter apologized to GOP senate colleagues but avoided the press who repeatedly attempted to talk to him."
He has an affair. He apologized. He is not facing criminal charges.
Thanks for the laugh, that is a good one. Is the best you can do to counter why William Jefferson is still in the House? Unreal. I thought the left would be soooo comforting of Vitter and understanding. What he did in his personal life shouldn't effect his working political life. I think that was the defense that you all used against Clinton. Oh yeah, that's right. He actually was found guilty of a crime, yet he stayed in office. Come on. You are going to have to do better that David Vitter!!
LOL.

NXG has had a nice pop these past few days. Really wish now that I had picked some up in the 2.70's.
Good luck to everyone! It is about time that NXG sees some upward movement.

"Ann Coulter is a total hypocrite"
Any evidence for that? So what if the Republican party asked Craig to step down. Seems to me that is the normal procedure for the GOP when one of their own does something wrong. That is in stark contrast to the Democratic party. Seems that William Jefferson is still in office. He has 16 criminal counts handed down by a grand jury hanging over his head and not one Democrat calls for his resignation. NOT 1.
"There is truly something wrong with all of these folks. They are filled with hate and fear."
How is seeking the resignation for a congressman who pleaded guilty to a crime wrong? Seems like the right thing to do. Doesn't seem to be from hate or fear. Seems like common sense to me.
"Also I think Hannity and Coulter are simpletons much like Bush in their ability to think. "
Fair enough. Think what you like. I think that both of these people are hard core conservatives and while they seemingly tow the party line, I wouldn't call them simpletons. I don't listen to or won't stand up for them, however, I also don't think they are simpletons.
-faz
That is great. Nice one line attack with no basis what so ever. Mind putting down some facts to back up that assertion?
Also, why not try refuting Coulter's article. If there is so much wrong with it, then why don't you break it down and tell us why.
Maybe you should try this approach for a change. Why don't you read this article without thinking of who the author is and tell me that there is no truth to it at all. Nah that would be too easy. That would make you have to think for yourself. Sure, go ahead and bash me, call me a "bushbot" or a "Repuke" or whatever the left fringe calls conservatives.

Found this searching around on the web.
Company: Baltia Air Lines Inc,.
It just doesn't get any better than this. Booming sector, tightly held, ground floor investment opportunity in a start-up
US airline.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=BLTA.OB
Company Overview:
The continued prosperity of Southwest Airlines and the recent success of Jet Blue exemplify the lucrative and expanding market for new US niche carriers. Baltia Air Line's goal is to become the leading US airline in the tra ns-Atlantic market between the major US cities and the capital cities of Eastern Europe, including Russia, Latvia, Ukraine, and Belarus. With experienced management and a lucrative and growing travel market to the Baltic region Baltia intends to soar to success.
Market Niche and Potential
Baltia's objective is to provide high quality three class passenger service, and reliable and fast cargo and mail transportation. Baltia plans to start its flight operations in 2007, as the only US airline connecting directly two of the world's most prominent cities - New York and St. Petersburg.
Baltia's nonstop service from New York's JFK to St. Petersburg will be approximately 8 hours, as compared to European connecting flights by foreign airlines taking up to 12 or 18 hours. Only a US airline (as well as a reciprocal Russian airline) is entitled to fly nonstop. Third nation airlines, which are currently serving the market, can only operate connecting flights via their national airports.
Management believes that the shortened flight time, elimination of a layover, elimination of the possibility of missing a connecting flight (it happens), and a high quality passenger service provided by a US flag airline will attract not only the American business traveler and high-end tourism but also travelers originating in Russia. During year one, Baltia plans to add additional airplanes and nonstop routes from JFK to Riga, Moscow, Kiev and Minsk. On the JFK-St. Petersburg route alone, management is projecting revenues for year one of operations at $60 million.
Corporate Snapshot
Baltia's senior management meets regulatory requirements and has been previously approved by the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to operate Part 121 airline.
Baltia has arranged a three year lease of a Boeing 747 aircraft. Baltia has leased space at JFK, Terminal 4 for its base of operations.
BUSINESS STRATEGY
Baltia Air Lines, Inc . has been organized by a team of US airline professionals with decades of airline experience. Baltia plans to start its flight operations with weekly nonstop flights between JFK and St. Petersburg and to expand its schedule to daily flights within a four months period. By the end of year one of operations, Baltia plans to operate a fleet of four aircraft flying nonstop from JFK to Riga, Moscow, Minsk, and Kiev.
Favorable Market Conditions
The New York-St. Petersburg route is a huge market directly connecting two cities with populations of 10 million and 6 million, respectively. The market is currently served by over 150 OAG (Official Airline Guide) listed flights per week, by a number of European airlines. These foreign airlines may not fly directly between the US and Russia; they have to operate with connecting flights through their countries. As a result, the market is presently served by foreign airlines requiring one or two stops and entailing a 12 to18 hour journey. C argo transport on connecting flights is even less efficient. From the trans-Atlantic leg cargo is offloaded mechanically from wide body jets. It is then manually loaded onto connecting narrow body jets. Nonstop service offered by Baltia will provide convenient eight hour travel, and efficient palletized/containerized cargo transport.
Typically, in the market served only by connecting flights, as much as 60% of the traffic migrates over to a new nonstop service when such service becomes available. Starting with one Boeing 747 in the JFK-St. Petersburg market, Baltia's business model calls for approximately 85,000 passengers during year one on that route, representing less than 10% of the market size. Thus Baltia can be expected have initial operations with a high load factor.
Despite the large number of stop-over flights currently offered by European airlines, passenger fares between JFK and St. Petersburg have steadily grown in the past years due to an even greater increase in traffic. Baltia has conservatively structured its nonstop fares consistent with those of foreign airlines providing connecting services.
Superior Baltia Service
Baltia plans to operate a high quality passenger service in a three class cabin layout, in addition to being the only direct flight. For cargo shippers, Baltia intends to offer "Baltia Courier" service - aimed at express letters and high value package market. Also, the company has begun negotiations with major express shippers and has strong interest in utilizing virtually all of its cargo capacity under block space arrangements.
Conclusion
With proven management, a unique market niche, offering superior service at a competitive price, solid relationships in the travel and courier industries, and a very lucrative and ever-growing demand for travel and shipping to and from St.Petersburg and the Baltic region, the Company has all the elements in place to become a soaring success.

I have done it ... I have spent time in the car after dropping them off at the airport ... not able to drive home yet .. . I don't forget their faces ..."

Steph,
Come on. This isn't angering you is it? We need to do away with the anchor baby clause so we can avoid this, I know that. I have sympathy for the parents, but that doesn't mean that they are right. What is next? Should we pardon all the prisoners in jails who are parents of fallen troops? At least our government is trying to help them out. What do they do in Mexico? His parents broke the law, they were illegal, they should take the responsibility for their actions and face the consequence. In this case, it is far less severe than what they do in other countries. Take our neighbor for example:
Stepping Over the Line
Don't try sneaking north across Mexico's other border.
By Joseph Contreras
Newsweek
June 5, 2006 issue - Ever since he crossed into Mexico, José Moisés has had nothing but trouble. Now the 30-year-old Honduran mechanic is hunkered down with other young illegal migrants in a rail yard just north of Mexico City, waiting for nightfall to hop a northbound freight. He displays a pale line encircling his finger. He used to have a ring there, he says—until Mexican cops slammed him against a squad car in the southern border state of Chiapas and grabbed it. "They took everything," says Moisés. "Here the Central American has no value."
As tough as the United States can be for workers who slip in from south of the border, Mexico is in a poor position to criticize. The problem goes far beyond the predatory gantlet of thugs and crooked cops facing defenseless transients like Moisés. There's ample precedent in Mexico for just about everything the United States is—or isn't—doing. Calling out the military? Mexicans may hate the new U.S. plan to deploy 6,000 National Guard troops on the border, but five years ago they cheered President Vicente Fox for sending thousands of Mexican soldiers to crack down on their southern frontier. Tougher laws? Hispanic-rights groups are enraged over U.S. efforts to criminalize undocumented aliens—yet since 1974, sneaking into Mexico has been punishable by up to two years in prison. Foot-dragging on amnesty? Fox has spent the past five years urging the United States to upgrade the status of millions of illegals from Mexico. Meanwhile, his own government has given legal status to only 15,000 foreigners without papers.
Some of the worst abuses take place on the coffee plantations of Chiapas state, where some 40,000 Guatemalan field hands endure backbreaking jobs and squalid living conditions to earn roughly $3.50 a day. Some growers even deduct the cost of room and board from that amount. "If you ask them, 'Why are you bringing in Guatemalans to work?' they say, 'You can't depend on Mexicans. They don't work hard; they're irresponsible'," says George Grayson, a political scientist specializing in Mexico at the College of William & Mary. "The truth is, you can pay [the guest workers] a pittance. And if they cause the slightest disturbance, you can send them back to Guatemala."
At least a few Mexicans are balking at the hypocrisy. Late last year their National Human Rights Commission issued a report criticizing Mexico's widespread mistreatment of aliens; the report described sub- human facilities where captured illegals are kept until they can be deported. Several international news agencies ran stories on the publication. But most of Mexico's leading papers ignored it.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13006798/site/newsweek/
The following line from that story you posted is so disingenuous:
"Enrique Soriano, Armando's father, is not the only person to have lost a son or daughter in the Iraq war and face deportation. There are more than three million people born in the U.S. with parents who came into the country illegally. Those born in the U.S. are automatically citizens and have all the rights and duties enjoyed by Americans. That includes military service with the possibility of losing one's life."
The author should be honoring this fallen soldier. He should not diminish his service by dragging the actions of his parents into it. This is simply trying to appeal to everyone's emotional side and stir up an outcry against this administration. I am no fan of the Bush admin for several reasons, but this is too much.

As for correlating troops to other factors just brings into perspective what is actually happening. I am not saying that since we haven't hit the same casualty rates as we did in past battles that we are OK, but it does bring a sobering effect to the emotional response to GI deaths. Ideally, we would never lose our sons and daughters in war, unfortunately, the real world doesn't permit that. People die everyday. People die in natural disaters, wars, homicides and many other ways. At least the troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world are serving our country to keep us safe, which is an incredibly noble cause.
Also, if you did not have other figures to compare casualties to, you would view even one death as unacceptable. If we were back in World War II with today's media, we would have never won because the casualty numbers would have become unacceptable in the first weeks of the war. In Vietnam, we won every single major military objective, however, it was the casualties of the Tet offensive that caused Walter Cronkite to tell the American public that we could no longer win this war.
There is two outcomes to a war. You either win and do it decisively or you lose. Plain and simple. I am much more of the mindset of winning.
I respect your opinion and I believe you mean well. I just see the war we are fighting from a much different perspective and see many, many more years of war on the horizon. This war will not be in Iraq but will be fought on many fronts and many fields of battle, yet the enemy, islamic extremists, will be the same. We will lose many more men and women in the effort, but it is necessary for our survival.
I have been through a number of your posts and you have a lot of good stuff to say. I look forward to chatting with you on this board in the future. Have a good one!
-faz
Interesting how everyone is so quick to rush to judgment on the surge. Why don't we let General Patraeus give his report next week and see how things are going.
I am going to put more faith in a General than in the GAO which is stuffed with bureaucrats.
As for GI casualties, we are not even at 15% of the casualties we saw in one battle campaign...Normandy.
http://www.britannica.com/dday/art-40555
And at the Tet offensive:
"America and its ARVN ally had suffered over 4,300 killed in action, some 16,000 wounded and over 1,000 missing in action."
http://www.vwam.com/vets/tet/tet.html
War sucks. It is never fun, pretty, glamorous, but in the end it is necessary. It is necessary as the only deterrent to true evil.
4 common sense points to war:
1. Rules of war: War is the only effective means for defeating evil.
2. In war there is no such thing as excessive force.
3. Using only the amount of force necessary to win, ennsures that you will lose.
4. The U.N. does not prevent war. It prevents war from working by stopping it before there is a definitive result. (see: Korea, Israel, Lebanon and Hezbollah) In doing so it invalidates the sacrifices of blood and treasure.
Let's wait until the facts come out by the man commanding the campaign in theater and then we can quibble over the details. I for one am glad that we have drawn the cowards that are radical islamic extremists to their own backyard so that we can deal with them instead of fighting them in our streets.

Schumer disses the troops
My Washington bureau chief (one of them) is pissed at Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York for dissing the troops. Schumer took the floor to harangue the administration. Fine. Then he said:
“And let me be clear, the violence in Anbar has gone down despite the surge, not because of the surge. The inability of American soldiers to protect these tribes from al Qaeda said to these tribes we have to fight al Qaeda ourselves. It wasn’t that the surge brought peace here. It was that the warlords took peace here, created a temporary peace here.”
Schumer heads the Democratic Senate campaign for 2008. Remember when James Clyburn of the South Carolina, the No. 3 Democrat in the House, said that good news from Iraq would be bad news from the Democrats?
Small wonder Schumer wants to downplay the success of our military in Iraq. For shame.
Here is the video: http://donsurber.blogspot.com/2007/09/blog-post.html
UPDATE: And let me point out that Schumer voted for this war. He sent the troops to Iraq. Now he derides their achievements. The man has no shame.

Oil sector still looks very strong.

$70+ oil is going to do well for the revenue for XOM. This is different from lat year when it hit $78 per barrel in that we have had sustained prices above $70.

Slow and steady wins the race.
Sure,
McCain was all about having comprehensive Immigration Reform. In other words, he wanted to handle border security, guest worker programs, and provide a psuedo-amnesty for the illegals already here.
From McCain's website:
“A comprehensive plan for immigration reform is long overdue. I am proud to join this distinguished bipartisan group in announcing an historic overhaul of our immigration system,” McCain said. “The legislation we announce today represents weeks, months -- and in some cases -- years of work and bipartisan negotiations. I’m proud of our work, our process, and our product.”
Senators Kennedy, Specter, Feinstein, Graham, Chambliss, Kyl, Martinez, Isakson and Salazar joined McCain, U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff to announce the agreement.
“First, we must establish that the infrastructure is in place to secure our borders and ensure that we have a functioning employment verification system. These triggers must be met before undocumented immigrants will qualify for legal status or new workers can enter the United States under a new, truly temporary, worker program.”
Looking at the statement above, there are a few things that stand out.
First, there is no need to have comprehensive immigration reform. It is not long overdue. WE HAVE LAWS ON THE BOOKS! ENFORCE THEM! Crackdown on the employers, increase the fines, have jail sentences. Stop the demand for illegals and they will stop coming.
Second, anytime you are co-sponsoring a bill with Ted Kennedy, you need to get your head checked.
Finally, there is already infrastructure in place. This is ridiculous. We do not need to create a whole new infrastructure, just use the one that exists.
There was so much wrong with this Bill that McCain/Kennedy put together. In the end, with the Z-VISA program they had in place, it was essentially providing amnesty because that VISA can be renewed as many times as the immigrant wishes. While I am not for rounding everyone up and deporting them, I am all about cutting off the flow and then dealing with everyone that is here.
Border security first! This is a no brainer. I like the example of a sinking ship. If you have a sinking ship that has a hole in it, you fix the hole first and then worry about bailing it out. This is the problem I have with comprehensive immigration reform. Fix the border and then lets talk about guest worker programs, VISAs, etc.
This is what Fred Thompason understands as well as Duncan hunter, certainly Tom Tancredo and Mitt Romney. These guys have their heads screwed on tight.
I have lots more on the immigration bill as I have read a good chunk of it. In my opinion, McCain just doesn't get it. He will not get my vote because of this.

EZ,
McCain - The good and the Bad
1. Good - Strong on the war. He gets it.
2. Good - Loads of experience in public service (military and politics)
1. Bad - McCain/Feingold. This is a terrible piece of legislation.
2. Bad - Immigration. He does not understand that the border comes first. He is all about comprehensive immigration reform. I think that this is the fundamental negative about John McCain and I will never vote for him because of it.

Great post. This rings loud and clear to me:
"Liberals don't even know what they mean by "hypocrite" anymore. It's just a word they throw out in a moment of womanly pique, like "extremist" -- or, come to think of it, "gay." How is Craig a "hypocrite," much less a "blatant hypocrite"?
Assuming the worst about Craig, the Senate has not held a vote on outlawing homosexual impulses. It voted on gay marriage. Craig not only opposes gay marriage, he's in a heterosexual marriage with kids. Talk about walking the walk!
Did Craig propose marriage to the undercover cop? If not, I'm not seeing the "hypocrisy.""
Thanks,

Dems already dismissing Iraq war report
By S.A. Miller
September 6, 2007
Congressional Democrats are trying to undermine U.S. Army Gen. David H. Petraeus' credibility before he delivers a report on the Iraq war next week, saying the general is a mouthpiece for President Bush and his findings can't be trusted.
"The Bush report?" Senate Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin said when asked about the upcoming report from Gen. Petraeus, U.S. commander in Iraq.
"We know what is going to be in it. It's clear. I think the president's trip over to Iraq makes it very obvious," the Illinois Democrat said. "I expect the Bush report to say, 'The surge is working. Let's have more of the same.' "
The top Democrats — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California — also referred to the general's briefing as the "Bush report."
Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said Gen. Petraeus' report was potentially compromised by the White House's involvement in drafting it.
"If the same people who were so wrong about this war from the start are writing substantial portions of this report, that raises credibility questions," he said.
Republicans bristled at the pre-emptive strike against the report.
"Are these leaders asking the American people to believe that the testimony of a commanding four-star general in the U.S. Army should be discarded before it's even delivered?" said Brian Kennedy, spokesman for House Minority Leader John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican.
Fortunately, it is too late for the Dems to backpedal from this one. They have invested themselves to heavily in defeat and now that it looks like the tide is turning, due to the surge, they are looking for a way out. Oh no. Let's see if the Republicans have the spine to call them on it and call them on it hard. I am not holding my breath. If this is not the time to pull the gloves off, then there is never a good time.
If Fred Thompson was looking for an opportunity, here it is. He could come out swinging with a montage of all the statements the Dems, including the ones running, said about how this war and surge have failed. Crush them, now is the time.
