The accounting world must be just like the engineering world, it all about profit. I work with engineering vendors all the time, the majority aren't interested in the best design, only in maximizing their profit. Because I work for a large company these firms are our first choice to hire because they are also very large, they have the resources to deal with “problems” with a bad design. A big firms resume looks good on paper. Unlike VRU$ there isn't an company founder that deals with the hiring of these firms, Its done by procurement department and the contracts department. Two separate departments with different goals that muddy the waters when selecting a vendor. This allows for extra charges to sneak in.
I believe this is what happened here, but we have the “owner” overlooking things and knows when he are being run through the wringer.
