BTW, that scene you love in True Romance is one of the most memorable scenes of any movie I've ever seen. Christopher Walken is one of a kind. It's hard to believe that adorable guy in The Deer Hunter turned into that! I love him to death as an actor. You surely have seen him on Saturday Night Live. Funniest stuff ever. Anyway, True Romance was a terrific movie.
There was this freaky little movie called Freeway with Reese Witherspoon and Kiefer Sutherland. Have you seen it? It's about ten years old and is a real off the beaten path one. I've told a bunch of friends to see it over the years and none have quite loved it like my husband and I did. I'd like to know what you think of it - if you run out of movies to see - lol. We're like, "why aren't they getting it?"
Also saw Kinsey Report a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty flat. It was interesting and worth seeing, mostly for his methods and the historic value. They totally lost me in the end when he and his wife were by the tree and the violins started playing kind of thing. Derf said his wife was a saint but actually, she went along for a pretty interesting ride there. She had a pretty unique life. That's like calling Hillary Clinton a saint.
Saw SuperSize Me last night. Interesting - mostly to know what that stuff is capable of doing to you, but I seriously didn't like that guy or his girlfriend. He was making such an issue out of things at times and I felt he was really stretching things needlessly, like the three doctors and I didn't like hearing his girlfriend talking about his performance in bed - eeew! She's the kind of person friends of mine get involved with and I get stuck listening to organic food and health issues all night.
Oh, and I totally agree regarding Arquette's teeth :)
Okay, I'm outa here.
Oh yeah, American Psycho! That guy was an incredible actor. I have to see that one again. There was this run of psycho killer movies that sort of started with Natural Born Killers and I was starting to get the creeps. There was that Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, and a string of others. Anyway, whoever said so, Bateman IS friggin amazing.
You know what other movie I loved? American History X. Ed Norton, whew. There's a performance that's hard to top.
Waiting For Guffman was better than A Mighty Wind but neither was as good as Best in Show. All are funny, Mighty Wind was the least funny of the three - IMO - but you have to see it. Wish you were seeing Waiting for Guffman before Wind, though, because you start to tire of the genre after awhile.
Run Lola Run was worth seeing. I'd give it about 3.3 out of 5 pickles. Loved Lola. Earthy and cool, interesting looking, too. Saw it a long time ago but as I recall, it gets suspenseful at times. Watching her run is oddly entertaining.
Have you seen Dancer in the Dark? You have to see that. It's a bit unusual in that it's a modern musical. If you've never liked Bjork you might not like it as much as some but she is amazing in that film. I used to ADORE her til she kind of lost it. LOVED DANCER IN THE DARK!
There are a few with varying reasons for their exception. Let me think about his one.
That is flat out hilarious.
I am choosing to take this post to mean that I am, or my post is, somehow sweet - AND NOT THE YAM. Nothing you do or say will dissuade me.
ahem, that's vise versa - lol
No thank you.
What would I do without you. If I rate a movie with a radish that means it was so/so, okay? :) Not good, not bad, and so on.
;)
I'm taking the path of least resistance.
We may be too late.
But of course, you are superior to me in every way.
AND I NEED MY NEUTRAL PICKLE!!!!
Vaughn is a powerful presence. Totally agree. He's eerie, too. He's one of those actors who doesn't have to work too hard to creep you out. I love that.
He was in a movie I saw some time ago and I can't think of the name of it. He was soooo damned perfect in this role of weird guy who insinuates himself and turns out to be the psycho killer. Damned if I can remember the name of it. I'm surprised I can't because I liked it. Hmmmmm. What was the name of that damned movie.
The thing that's weird about him is he is so clearly not a leading man, I mean, he is a supporting actor in appearance (most leading men do not have small heads, I have noticed, and for his size, he does) and in character yet, he makes a movie because he has so quirky and oddly dominant a persona. It's like you somehow don't even realize what an impact he's having on you. If I am making no sense to you, don't worry about it. I'm talking to myself anyway.
You'll love Swingers if you like him.
I agree with that totally. For me, Robert Forster is a rare bird, though. Jackie Brown got extra pickle juice merely because of him. He's a gentleman, he's handsome (I mean, he's not gorgeous or anything but he has something special) without being pretty or fussy, he's smart without having to prove anything, he's modest yet confident, he's regular but not common, he's robust but not hulking - he's a man of substance, mature without lacking charm. He plays a good, humble man with sex appeal and that ain't easy. I loved him in both Jackie Brown and Diamond Men. I actually may have liked Diamond Men more, to tell you the truth. Not as ambitious but that may be why. I tend to like modest endeavors.
Forster's acting reminds me a lot of Scarlett Johansson's, or vice versa. I adore her as well. One of my favorite films of all time is Ghost World http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0162346/. That was the first time I really noticed her. One of the funniest scenes in Ghost World is when Enid is in a record store, I think (it's been awhile), and she says something so simple, like "Everyone is too stupid" and I'm like, YES! I was alot like her in school. My goodness, I loved her character.
Anyway, Donnie Wahlberg, Forster's sidekick in Diamond Men, was terrific also.
Done.
Hey! I take my pickles very seriously. And I need 5. Ha!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119396/
See this. AWESOME!!!!!!! It got some recognition. Diamond Men didn't and deserved some. It's a (pun) hidden gem.
Robert Forster is too wonderful an actor and I find him to be incredibly handsome.
Hey Raz, you see Diamond Men? I really enjoyed that one.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0200427/
P.S. The lead is the guy from Jackie Brown. Awesome film. At least I thought so.
PHOOEY!
I NEED MY NEUTRAL PICKLE!!!!! You can't take it away from me.
I should see it again. I saw Swingers YEARS ago. I'll put it in the queue and let you know. Now that I'm more familiar with iHub in general, a fresh viewing will help.
Really is. I loved his character.
Swingers - terrific flim. Really, really terrific. Classic.
4.5 out of 5 pickles here. I loved it.
"lol!" my arse.... grumble, grumble.
Hey, you seen Zero Effect? Not everyone loves it but I really did. Just throwing it out there before I forget. Also loved Flirting with Disaster. But I like Stiller in many things. Not all but many. He irritates some people.
I know it's not new stuff I'm talking about now but hey, I'm perusing Netflix.
He must have felt like a dope, poor guy. A friend of mine who never watches ANYTHING, not even movies, keeps sending me things like Crank Yankers audio files thinking they're real. I just let him go on thinking they are, if it makes him happy. Now, I really don't like Crank Yankers.
Doesn't it surprise you when someone doesn't like something you think is terrific? Reno 911 may be one of those shows that appeals to a very narrow audience with whom the bawdy, subtle, and yet outrageous and quite natural humor hits just the right balance. I think the show is masterful, really. It takes some time to get a feel for what they're doing. The characters, for me, is the show. Each and every one kills me.
I suppose if we all liked the same stuff we'd all be the same person and wouldn't that be boring as hell.
Night.
TX for sharing the story.
Now that you mention it..... RIGHT BACK!
I'm going to ambush you someday, you $&%*(&(*%H)*$&!!
No, it's me. I'm getting hypoglycemia from not having eaten and I notice I don't think very efficiently when I'm like this. Thanks for the out, Susie.
I wrote it awkwardly. Sorry.
Okay, I may have said that wrong. What happened is the wife of this couple very assertively pointed out that Larry hadn't thanked her as well for picking up the tab. Her husband had. There were other layers to the scene as well. Anyway, it turned into a debate about why should he thank her when her husband paid the bill. She asserted that his money was her money too. Just that she went out of her way to point it out would have made the hair on the back of my neck stand out. Don't ask me why because if you wouldn't have had a negative reaction to it, I don't think it's much worth discussing. I would not have been able to hold my tongue either. I will get stoned to death if I go further. There is a certain kind of behavior some females exhibit that I do not like and she exemplified some of it. That would have been my beef even more so than the actual issue.
OMG, that hooker one was REALLY funny. He is wonderful.
I can't wait to see the next set. Have seen nothing that hasn't come out on DVD. I LOVE having stuff like that to look forward to.
Well I certainly think so!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!
Plus, Larry grows on you and I must admit to relating to some of his quirks. Particularly ones like not being able to keep yourself from saying things that are clearly going to be problematic but you simply must say it out of some twisted sense of ethics. There's this one where he and his wife are having dinner with these people and the wife of the other couple refers to the household money as "their" money. Was called on this line! Must insert here that it's not that I don't think it is their money but there was something I would have taken issue with regarding the way the woman asserted that it was, and, well, ooops - sorry you know who! This is just one that pops into my head and not the best example. But that's the kind of stuff that gets me into trouble ALL the time.
WAIT! DON'T RUN OFF!
Actually, I'm sure many people relate to some things about him. At least I hope so.
Right. I have a friend who is really, really annoying but too funny to pass up. He's full of energy and was, tada!, a drummer among other things. He ratatatats on any surface he can get his hands on... all the time. His mind goes a mile a minute as well. His wit is unexpected and layered. So, when he opens his mouth you're like, GOD, THAT WAS WELL WORTH PUTTING UP WITH THAT DAMNED RAPPING ALL OVER THE DAMNED PLACE FOR. He is really complex and not easy by any means but soooo well worth any and all of it and then some.
Hey, I'm pulling a blank. My mind is all over today but we don't get to see them first hand. We rent the DVDs so it's possible I may have missed that one. Give me one scene to trigger the memory if it's there.
Oh yeah, that is another gem. HILARIOUS.
HAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like it! I think you have to stick with it longer. He is supposed to be annoying. That's part of his charm. I swear. He is really, really funny.
It might not be for you. I can imagine you watching him popping bubble wrap in the Crazy Eyez episode. You will be like - I HATE THIS PERSON!
Now I've GOT to see it. Outrage can be invigorating.
Love them all. The funniest Chapelle is the reality show with the one white guy!!! Holy moly!!!
Well, I think Reno 911 is brilliant but this is sort of splitting hairs since we agree this is funny stuff. I have friends who simply cannot buy CYE. They loved Seinfeld and got accustomed to the more slick presentation. What can you say? It's a matter of taste but at least we agree in general on what's funny.
South Park is brilliant too, but now I'm using that word way too often.
