Tiger 10.4.x running on PPC and X86 = Serious Market Share
Go for the Jugular .... AAPL !!!!
Linda, I'm running 10.4.1 with Safari Version 2.0 (412) I get that error as well. If you abort you will have to Force Quit Safari.
Just download the music and enjoy !!!
BR, Altaire4 ..... Apple iPod/iTunes keeps trouncing the Digital MUSIC market !!!!
KCMW your welcome.
Mix-Tapes Flash and Apple's Core Image Fun House
Your welcome Dil. With US Auto sales pretty much flat its good to see BMW and Mercedes(Daimler-Chrysler) going the extra mile to win customers. The Mix Tapes have been very eclectic .... they have introduced me to alot of new artists I would never have considered listening too.
As for Adobe purchasing Flash ... The produt will most likely cost more unless your willing to shell out a bundle for one of Adobe's Creative Suites. Between Apple's Core Image Fun House which you can find in Tiger's Developer Kit and GIMP could marginalize Adobe's Photoshop.
BR, Altaire4 ..... Go AAPL !!!

Enjoy, Altaire4 ..... Some new tunes to feed your Apple iPods
Baldrick the Apple 30" is a significantly better product
.... which goes for a premium price.
The Syntax is more than adequate for my humble needs. The 1280 x 768 real estate makes a big difference. The High Definition Picture is superb for a product costing a third of what its competitors charge.

OT: Syntax Olevia 30" Flat Panel HD ready TV
Excerpt from some previous posts:
The Display is a Syntax Olevia 30" LCD HD ready TV with VGA, DVI, S-Video and Component Video inputs. Very nice display ... not as good as Apples 30" but at $1000.00 with Two tuners the Olevia is a steal.
http://www.syntaxgroups.com/index.php
I'm currently using this Display with the MacMini I'm using to post this message.
Heywood, Ditto on the iMac DV G3 ....
Five years old system and it just Purrrs with Panther. Try running Win 2k with all the security patches and Malware applications on a 5 year old PeeCee ? I guess you get what you pay for ..... or not.
BR, Altaire4 ...... Go AAPL !!!!
Blue KCMW's suggestion is a good test worth doing. It may be that one of the sticks of memory is fine or the second slot is having a problem.
Are the memory sticks identical ?
Two different types of memory can cause timing issues which can lead to a kernel panic.
RAM Vendors an a Satisfying Retail Experience
Blue, I Purchase all my Ram from either Crucial or Kingston and I've never had a problem with bad ram.
Is the iMac G5 all that you expected ?
Went to a local Apple Store on a Thursday morning last week around 10:00 AM an hung out at the Genius bar until 12:30 an was blown away by how many customers walked in an purchased items. Chatted with Six people at the Genius bar Three of them former Windows users ... all satisfied with their Apple products an the services provided by the Genius bar.
Purchased an FM Auto Charger/tuner for my shuffle an listened to my tunes an the way home.
Fyi, Lovin' my fully loaded Mac Mini with Tiger 10.4.1 and the Syntax display.

OT: Weird Al @#???!!!!
Blue you've been working too hard on the new iMac G5. Weird Al is old news ... now Pee Wee Herman .... now that was a musician
Gate's Steals ..... Reality Distortion Field from Jobs
Device smashed !!!
Looks like XBox 360 is alot of hype.
No silicon from IBM ?
Vaporware ?
Apple PowerMac G5 rocks !!!!!
OT: 64 bit GUI vs 32 bit GUI
A little bit of perspective here. Is MS Windows 64 bit OS GUI 64 Bit ?
What advantages does a 64 bit GUI have over a 32 bit GUI ?
If anything it sounds like a 64 bit GUI would slow the application down because it would require more time to write to the display.
Hey Blue have you tried the latest version of AppleJack 1.4.1 ?

Blue Geek Out Dude !!!!
The MacMini Speed with 10.4 Tiger is more than adequate
Wow my experience with the 1.4 Ghz MacMini w, 512 MB of Ram, BT with Tiger and the 30" display is alot different. The Spotlight search speed on the MacMini is incredible.

Fruit Comparisons
Stop comparing apples with oranges.
Nickel I bet you have been waiting a long time to use that line.
This is an AAPL stock forum so I won't waste anymore bandwith on XBox 360 and what it means to Personal Computing.
What's next on tap from our favorite Fruit company.
BR, Altaire4
Bootz this poses an interesting challenge to AAPL
XBook 360 if in its final form is even half the machine being touted at the right price could be a Major win for Microsoft.
Your also right about Power PC prices. AAPL needs to do more to continue the momentum that iTiune/iPods and Mac Mini and Mac OS X Tiger has started.
The Mac Mini is a Swiss Army appliance
Linda the Mac Mini is being used as a central component in many types of applications, as an on board accessory for GPS navigation system for both boats and cars. A PVR for the living room. A Wireless Multimedia Entertainment hub, Stereo component, DVD Player, Personal Video recorder an the occasional gaming system for the Livingroom. So what is the Xbox 360 ?
With a few hacks it will run Gentoo Linux and possibly Mac OS X.
So Apple needs to respond to the latest Microsoft salvo by leveraging all of its advantages.
Hardware like Mac Mini and XBox 360 is the start of a much bigger trend which will most likely kill of the traditional desktop PC tower. Wireless laptops and digital hubs will very likely dominate the next wave of personal computing.
The XBox 360 is direct competition to the MacMini.
Microsofts advantage is in leveraging the Gaming industry model
Remember Halo and Bungie Software ?
So lets hope that Xbox 360 is mostly hype.
More AAPL and XBox speculation
KCMW your analysis is spot on. I believe AAPL needs to form soom new alliances beyond Sony in order to compete in the livingroom.
Solutions
1. Jobs should leverage the Pixar brand name and Buy a gaming developer to beef up Games on the Mac OS X platform.
2. A beefed up MacMini rev b. has a chance ..... but the Gaming revenue subsidizes that Microsoft and Sony are counting on puts them ahead on hardware price.
3. Leverage Quicktime as the premier delivery system for Multimedia content. This is in the works but more alliances need to be formed.
4. Partner with a Cable or telecommunications company to deliver content ASAP.
The time to do all of this was yesterday.
Never under estimate Microsoft. They usually get it right the second time around.
Br, Altaire4
Dill I think your criticism and concerns are warranted.
I'm typing on a slick looking wee Mini whos' beachballs are a minute by minute occurence and whos' technology is 1999. How is Apple going to win the living room , when they are still waiting in line for parts with technology from 3 years ago?
However, how much of the Xbox 360 and PS3 is Hype. Its easy to create prototypes that you could never economically build for a market that is used to sub $300.00 consoles. I find it interesting that they state the specs are not final. Would you pay $999.99 for a device like the PS3 or XBox 360.
.... is any of this vaporware ?
MSFT Xbox 360 and AAPL
Looks like Microsoft stunned a good many people with the XBox 360 Prototype. Now the Big question are can IBM and Microsoft deliver a system like this in volume and at a price that game console consumers can afford. This appears to be an interesingt play to get MSFT technologies in everyone's livingroom. This means that AAPL needs to act fast inorder to consolidate its mind share. Expect interesting stuff coming from AAPL very soon.
OT: XBox 360
With Microsoft releasing a PPC based system that blurs the line between Game system and PeeCee's they could marginalize Dell, HP Gateway and other smaller boxmakers.
Maybe this explains why Mikey Dell just invested 100 Million into Red Hat.
We live in interesting times.

Michael Dell sinks $100M into Red Hat
By Leo John
Triangle Business Journal
Updated: 8:00 p.m. ET May 8, 2005
Dell invested his own money in the Raleigh Linux software developer, taking the largest single chunk of $600 million in debentures offered by the company in January 2004.
The investment was made by investment firm MSD Capital LP, which deploys an estimated $10 billion of Dell's personal wealth in public companies, private investments and real estate. The investment firm was given Dell's initials - MSD - as its name.
"It is certainly a good endorsement for Red Hat," says Katherine Egbert, an analyst with research firm Jefferies & Co. "Question (for Red Hat) is, did (Michael Dell) himself write a check, or is there a third party that wrote a check," says Egbert, referring to the possibility that investment managers - and not Dell - identified Red Hat for purchase.
Todd Fogarty, a spokesman for MSD Capital, declined to discuss the Red Hat investment but pointed out that 70 employees work for the New York investment firm. "It is our policy not to talk about investments," Fogarty says. A Red Hat spokeswoman did not return phone calls seeking comment.
Egbert notes that Dell Inc., which is based in Round Rock, Texas, resells Linux software on its servers and was an early investor in Red Hat.
RALEIGH - Billionaire Michael S. Dell, founder and chairman of Dell Inc., has placed a $99.5 million bet on Red Hat.

Roni that is wicked cool !!!
Now you can spend some well deserved leisure time while Tiger does the work.
Do you know if Xbox 360 will be capable of running the current XBox games or will they have to buy new PPC versions ?
br, Altaire4 ...... Apple Rocks and Microsoft just Rolls.
No Longhorn until 2006 ... a shame really
Tiger, iMac rev B, MacMini iPod's dominating the Music player market .... sales are up and Interest in AAPL is at an all time high .... so Microsoft pre-announced the X-Box along with Billy Gee's Doom and Gloom comments about Apple's iPod/iTunes Music biz losing out to Cell-Phones. Sounds like Microsoft is finally coming up to the plate .... but still no Longhorn until 2006. What I find significant is Microsoft is abandoning its long time ally intel for the new XBox.
I have it on good authority that Apple is preparing a Big CPU announcement in June an that some very Big customers are looking into switching to Tiger .... so let the games begin.
BR, Altaire4 ..... Go AAPL !!!!
WLD, its no surprize that the previous iMac G5's haven't sold well.
The G5 wasn't the best bang for your buck because 10.4 Tiger hadn't arrived yet. Now that Tiger is out and the iMac rev. B is out expect sales to improve. Also many of the Apple systems are coming out of the same factories churning out Dell systems so quality control can be a problem. At least with an Apple refurb you know a qualified Apple tech checked it out before it gets to you.
Altaire4 ..... Go AAPL !!!!!
What iPod Killa !!!
Looks like the Music competition is going to eat each others lunch. While the Apple/HP iPod/iTunes keeps chugging along.
As long as those Apple Hardware and Software engineers keep sweeting those iPod/iTunes specs I believe that Apple will emerge as the long term winner in what is going to be a nasty drawn out digital Music business war.
Music Jihad
Real released a version of its software that allows a user to migrate music from iPod to other Mp3 players. I suspect the new iTunes update is to break its compatibility.
Br, Altaire4
AAPL iTunes 4.8
iTunes 4.8 is more about thwarting Real Networks from stealing Apple's Music Business than a significant upgrade.
Br, Altaire4
Yo Bootz
Two inches could be alot between friends.
You do love to spar with LJK.
I installed the recent Quicktime 7 and the latest Apple security update for Panther 10.3.9 and Safari flies now.
Holding off on Tiger until the 10.4.1 update.

OT: HDTV LCD and Plasma Sets
Linda HD technologies are just now breaking out of its infancy in North America so I wouldn't be in a rush to buy something as a dedicated TV set. Its a guarantee that the LCD prices will fall further and that better and cheaper panels are in our future.
How do you like the Plasma set you currently have ?

Practical Multipurpose Consumer Electronics
Hi Linda my technology buying patterns have changed since times gone bye. I used to buy Top of the line products and spend more figuring that they will get the longest amount of use.
What I've realized over the last Three years is that you can never keep up with the latest and greatest products .... things change so quickly so now I buy quality, practical devices that are multi-purpose at the lowest reasonable price.
I think Apples pricing of the iPod Shuffle and the MacMini is a reflection of that thinking both the Shuffle and the MacMini are multipurpose consumer electronic devices.
The Syntax Olevia 30" is a nice television/DVD display that doubles as a Computer monitor.
These devices sell well because they have broad application and are perceived as a good value from a dollar standpoint.
What are your thoughts on buying consumer electronics ?

The Cult of Mac
Found this book displayed at the entrance of my companies library.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1886411832/104-8050102-2896733?v=glance
Damn now I'm gonna have to be careful about slicing Granny Smith Apple's in a public place.
Apple is not a Cult. Any time Apple products get any traction in the marketplace the comments about Mac fantascism gets raised ..... such drivel.
If anybody is interested in joining a cult check out the softies in Redmond they geek out on command line registry entries.
This Apple cult nonsense is one of the reasons why many mainstream users reject Apple products.
BR, Altaire4
Great find Dill !!!
This new Kitty can roar !!!!
Congrats, the new iMac G5 rev. B is a good deal now.
Hey where's Grandma Fi ?
