AAPL rose in the final hour of the after hours market today from about 251 to 254.74.
ESM0 (S&P E-mini, June 2010 futures contract) gave an Up signal at 1910 (NYT) this evening.
TREND1,
1) What is the VIX decision rule here? and,
2) Does it work over a longer period of time, say, three or more years, etc.?

Further evidence the PC era may be ending, replaced by iPhones, iPads, and similar devices.
iPhone 4 looks good. . .but what were the disappointments?
Still only AT&T. . .what else?
Where does the stock go after today?
Buy on the rumor. . .
Down about 2% this session.
FAS: New LOD.
Imagine if 25%, or even 10%, of the companies on the planet were as adaptively innovative as AAPL!
My how things would change. . .
New devise OS name: iOS 4
FAS: Continues Down.
German industrial production data didn't help much except for the first forty minutes or so.
Many minutes to come. . .
Asian markets tumble on fears over Hungary:

S&P futures recover a little.
E-mini S&P Down over 13 pts at this point.
Will this trend continue or reverse? . . .still a long way to 0930, Monday, NYSE, etc.
Three key features of the iPad that IMO are very big challenges for competitors are:
1) OS speed, stability, and smoothness,
2) Applications, iTunes, the App/Book Store, and,
3) Battery life.
I have not seen a proposed challenger in this regard. A lower price, by itself, will not do it.
What sort of input for the iPad do you suppose would make BG happy?
If "it" happens in a future generation machine will he buy one?
ASUS Eee Pad:
This is one of the amazing statistics in the history of personal computers.
This is further evidence the G1 iPad is a breakthrough device and a glimpse of what's to come. It has truly captured the behavior of users.
I remember stopping by a local Apple Store the day it was released and thinking: People are actually having a difficult time putting this thing down, it's a highly relational device, as soon as this thing is able to speak and carry on a conversation, no one will be without one.
Back again.
My FAS intraday model that most closely corresponds to the 30 min chart is very close to being Up.
A scalping trend trading model I've used is presently Up. Signals for this model typically run from seconds to a max of 3 to 5 minutes.
I'm guessing Monday is Up, perhaps, substantially. It is very dangerous to be short at this time.
Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates on iPad, Steve Jobs and the future computer:
http://www.informationweek.in/Software/10-06-04/Microsoft_Chairman_Bill_Gates_on_iPad_Steve_Jobs_and_the_future_computer.aspx
FAS: Covered short at 1040 (NYT). No position, signal still Down.
I need to leave for the rest of today's market.
Good trading to all here!
No.
I'll bet you expected me to go long about 1330 (NYT)?
"Hand of Greed" a fun game in the App Store. But bring some bandages and gauze.
It may help train your reactions so you'll sell AAPL promptly when indicated. Avoid or minimize the bleeding.
FAS: Down at the hour 1200 (NYT).
Futures rising. Bullish trend continues.
D8: Steve Jobs Live:

A look at the Dell Streak:
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/different-tablets-get-diverse-d8-reactions-2010-06-02?siteid=YAHOOB
It's basically a large screen multi function Android phone. Apparently, it will be sold by data/plan carriers and in an unlocked version for about $500. No word who the carriers will be here in the US.
Would you buy one?
FAS looking toppy around 24.45 as futures decline some in after hours. Is rally over?
Telling continues with tomorrow's action.
My speculation is that if there is any significant competition for the iPad in the next year or two it will come from ASUS (and HP and DELL):

Recall AAPL contracts with ASUS to make some of its devices.
I have a Win7 ASUS notebook. . .a fine, nicely built computer.
Are you saying the futures are not influenced by the economy?
The 2010 March dividend was OK, before that, not so swift.
Can they maintain the March one if the economy continues to improve?

The Kno Tablet:

The elephant tablet, 5.5 lbs, imagine lugging that around compared to a 1.5 lb. iPad.
Bill Gross, the junk bond guru, just announced on CNBC that he has an iPad.
He doesn't have a cell phone!
FAS: Now Up.
Let's see if it gains or retreats.
TREND1, Have you noticed the dividend for BGU?
Attractive.
FAS: Still not Up, but closer.
Futures are trending higher and will likely lead FAS Up in the premarket if the trend continues.
Some iPads Can’t Take the Heat:
http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/06/01/some-ipads-cant-take-the-heat/?partner=yahoofinance
FAS selling into the close. . .no fear from the short sellers, no covering.
. . . a bad sign for the financial sector and the S&P 500.
When might the iPad/iPhone have a Pixel Qi screen?
Regarding virtual keyboards, here is a free game to practice your typing on the iPhone / iPodT:
http://i.downloadsquad.com/2010/05/29/textrace-iphone-touch-type/
I like the iPhone keyboard, especially landscape mode, and often use it for email, some texting. I have not found a separate smart phone mini keyboard I like. The Droid doesn't make it for me.
My impression is the Palm phones would sell better if they had a keyboard/form factor similar to the iPhone. Perhaps.
Fatfingerless.
FAS continues Down from Friday and stresses S&P 500.
If SJ. . .
Some will panic and sell, there will be increased volatility, much discussion and vigilance, watchful waiting. You can be sure the stock will not surge higher.
It will likely be a major business event for that year. Competitors will circle and plot to gain from it. Others will come forward to lead AAPL but we really don't know what that means for the company. There is one Steve Jobs and we all know that at some level.
Many including myself will feel significant sadness with the passing of a/the major business leader, technologist, innovator of our time. I hope that day is far ahead.
