Citigroup Analyst Calls Nike a Top Pick With More Sales Growth Ahead
NEW YORK (AP) -- A Citigroup analyst said Thursday athletic shoes and clothing retailer Nike Inc. remains one of her top picks due to ongoing sales growth in the U.S., Asia and Europe.
"We think Nike will continue to post high single digit revenue growth over both the short and long term based on continued growth in the U.S. and Asia and improvement in Europe," said analyst Kate McShane in a note to investors.
McShane said investors are concerned about the health of the U.S. footwear market, but based on her analysis, Nike should still be able to post mid-to-high single-digit revenue growth in 2008.
The company, she said, has enjoyed market share gains and increased distribution. Both should help keep the Nike's revenue high regardless of any footwear slowdown, she added.
Earnings in the first quarter should also be strong due to the company's "diversified retail strategy and geographic revenues," McShane said.
She also said the company's strong balance sheet, including cash flow, cash per diluted share and debt ratios, will play an even bigger role in determining whether to invest in the shares as investors remain wary about the volatility in the stock market and uncertainty surrounding consumer spending.
"With the stock market still highly volatile, we think Nike's balance sheet, which has always been an important part of our investment thesis, plays an even bigger role in its investment story," McShane said.
She rates Nike a "Buy" with a $65 price target.
Nike shares rose 30 cents to $56.38 in premarket trading. The shares closed at $56.08 Wednesday.

Do you mean your mind or your money?
I say both. LOL

Tiki. You just put an old song in my head.
"got-my-mind-on-my-money-and-my-money-on-my-mind"
I had to mark that post. Brilliant Shorty. Thanks for those references to that entire scandal.
Wonder how many others just saved thousands of dollars based on that post.
Guess folks will be dumping their shares on a market sell just to get out.
Wow. Thanks again.
Not sure why 19 wouldn't bother me much right now. I guess this is my patience kicking in again.
I can see what you're suggesting, especially after what the summer handed to us. Everything is possible.
It's rough to watch this day by day for me, and I'm really trying not to.
Do you have stops set for 19 or less?
Believes the stock would be a great BUY if it happened to drop into the teen level as in 19, regardless of the "bad" fundimentals.
Sure, but he doesn't think it's a great buy here? He really believes that it'll only scootch up just a little bit more to ever turn a profit for you?
Does he secretly play pinkies on the side? Perhaps he wants you to jump out for a bit and run up one of his subbers. lol
yes, i heard this afternoon it was a micky-d all time high :)
well, shut off the lights when you folks leave tonight. I'm going to bed now :)
G'nite and GLTY!
Bridget
you balance out my posts well, Thanks! lol
I sure hope so. You're stuck with me - at least on this board, lol.
How much of a move do you think it could make on the news?
Gosh, zoro. If I could answer that, I would in a heartbeat.
I don't know much about TIE, nor do I ever seriously recommend a buy, sell or hold on ANY security because I am not at this time licensed to do so. (having disclaimed that.........i continue...)
I can only at this point suggest that the news is, IMHO, bullish- comparing to it's share structure and size of the contract- that it is a good place to be a bullish play tomorrow.
If anyone, including yourself, can find this news to be a launch into a long term investment (rather than a swing play)
then I would highly recommend some further DD on this company and a phonecall to your financial advisor or broker.
:)
How's that for responsible posting?
LOL, but the basher handbook says that "BASHERS ONLY BASH GOOD STOCKS"..........
You really didn't take me seriously did you? LOL, I was being
sarcastic again.
Darn me.
do you ever trade premarket or ah? watch L2 during ah or pm? I like to see some of the wild buys and the peeks. When it pulls back before open you can get a great idea of how the day will follow, imho and experience.
it's fun to watch and to jump in to during those swings
I have no idea. I missed the AH activity on it, and would have to judge it in premarket. Hard to say right now.......
LOL
i just found it in the last hour and half.....so nope.
WOW not a single TIE pumper at Ihub or RB. I just don't understand how these big board stocks can EVER move without paid promoters, such as Lebed, or 40 message board pumpers with 50 alias each. AND no bashers!! I Thought bashers only bashed good stocks!?! Then why aren't they shouting about AMZN and EBAY and NKE??
Heck, we all know the pinkies aren't choice securities. I'd love to see them go nuts about Berkshire Hathaway.
Subbers are too easy a target.
The world is simply upside down I tell ya.
Back to the books now,
Bridge :)
to the moon! (is that only a penny phrase?) lol

Hi Jen,
First, and a bit off topic-sorry BX board- (I'll be adding it onto the IPO board this weekend).....I pulled up the preliminary documents for you on what everyone is waiting for....
FILES
http://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?action=getcompany&CIK=0001403161&owner=include&c....
You can at least look at the S4 and it's ammendments thus far, as well as some 425's ....
Next up, BX......
There is a mounting pile of conflicting information out there, horrible press, mass market fluctuation since it's debut and fwiw, not too many brokers will "recommend" IPO's as they can be as volatile as pennies. They are high risk, especially when you aren't purchasing in the primary market on it's offer price.
To be perfectly honest, I'm giving myself 12-18 months here (which is very long for me to want to ever hold anything, although sometimes I've not wanted to hold and have due to circumstance, lol) before I decide if I leave the shares to my kids, take a profit or sell and move on. This one is a "crock pot" stock. LOL
Here is a GREAT excerpt that sums up, so profoundly some of the ideals I share in Blackstone:
Unless, that is, Blackstone's stock turns out to be a good investment. Kinsley is dismissive of this possibility:
The consensus in the business world seems to be that Schwarzman and his colleagues may be selling full-price tickets to a ball game in the ninth inning, as the stock market fizzles out. These private-equity types are not in the habit of selling at the bottom.
Short-term, I'd say he's right. The Goldman Sachs IPO, which bears a lot of similarities to Blackstone's, happened in 1999, not long before the market tanked. But since then Goldman's stock price has tripled. And mutual fund company Eaton Vance was the best performing stock of the quarter century starting in 1980. Investors in Eaton Vance stock did dramatically better than investors in its mutual funds.

It's somewhat rare that I post on the stock specific boards, and I am very proud to own BX, and you should feel patient and confident in the same.
Very basic fundamental analysis and history involved in this company proves to me that it's target is growth, and it
meets it every time. This is only a rough start to a very good company in a very shakey market. Let's get thru an election soon and see where it stands. You've got a great position here, Jen, and it's smart to be cautious. I am personally excited to see how it shifts when the Hilton dust settles and the debts are covered there. This is the Biggest Hotel deal in history. Add that to Blackstones nearly 100 billion in acquisitions in the past 5 years..........
sometimes you've got to have the Buffet mentality.......
This is one of those times, imho.
When your favorite company is tanking, and you know it's good-
and you're the only one in the room smiling.....you've got some Warren in ya, lol.
Here are some of the figures pulled from the web tonight (below)...
I'll shop around some other sites as well for you.

Hi East/Jen! Thanks, I'm just getting back to September and badly need to do my updates this weekend on the sluggish IPO scene.
As for the morning report, I meant to actually put it on the other board I moderate, lol. It's a non specific stock board that covers pinks and blue chips. So, sorry for the confusion there.
I simply have been spending some time here on the BX board as I do have a holding in this one and am excited about it. It's been down low for too long, imho, but we can thank the gov reports for the swings and take advantage of them.
As far as VISA, I originally thought it would be closer to the end of the year. As soon as I get any information, it will be posted for you and everyone. So much publicity there thanks to the success of the MA (mastercard). It should be
a decent gamble. Then again, I thought BX would have been far better than it's been- but patience has held me through and I've been somewhat grateful for these prices. :)
GLTY,
Bridget
UPDATE 1-Latvian telco picks Blackstone as buy out partner
Wed Sep 12, 2007 10:43AM EDT
RIGA, Sept 12 (Reuters) - Private equity firm Blackstone (BX.N: Quote, Profile, Research) is to lead a consortium of banks to finance a management buyout of fixed-line operator Lattelecom and will itself invest 90 million Latvian lats ($178 million), Lattelecom said.
The buyout is part of a deal which will allow Nordic group TeliaSonera (TLSN.ST: Quote, Profile, Research) to take control of main mobile operator LMT from Lattelecom and the state. Lattelecom's management is buying the fixed-line operator from TeliaSonera and the state.
"In total we need to raise 290 million lats for the government's stake," Lattelecom Chief Executive Nils Melngailis told Reuters after the firm announced its deal with Blackstone on Wednesday.
"What will happen now is that we, together with Blackstone, will form a new company, to be named next week, where they will invest roughly 90 million lats and the Lattelecom management will invest some 10 million lats," he added.
The Blackstone Group is working together with a consortium of several banks, Lattelecom added.
A valuation last year put a price tag on Lattelecom of 260 million Latvian lats and a value of 668 million on LMT.
Under the deal, TeliaSonera is to get the government's 28 percent and Lattelecom's 23 percent shareholdings in LMT.
The move is part of TeliaSonera's strategy to expand in emerging markets such as the Baltic states and Russia.
"After the share purchase is completed, financing will also be provided to expand Latvia's broadband infrastructure and to develop new areas of business, including acquisitions of other companies," Lattelecom added in a statement. Continued
Melngailis said Lattelecom would in the future make investments into high-speed internet access and wireless solutions, such as GSM and IT outsourcing.
He said the company already an investment plan ready for the next three years.
