Ixse - Which one would have 1.7B transistors?
Tenchu - And BestBuy is so much further from Germany than Akihabara, where they usually show up first! Geographical location is irrelevant. It's a business decision as to where they show up first.
Tenchu - And Tukwila is playing the part of "the Mighty Casey"?
http://www.sheilaomalley.com/archives/001136.html
Hmmm... I don't much like my namesake being in the place of Montvale in your scenario, though!
Nobody home, eh?
Haddock, chipdesigner - Yes, I know, I just thought it was interesting info.
Paul
Intel Mac slower, as expected.

"More importantly, they also said that Apple was playing the AMD card at full force, so don't be too surprised if a green logo shows up on some models."

I_banker - Isn't that only because of the recall?
Keith - re: AV
Some progress, apparently.

PIC and Geode/Alchemy at Computex. X2 notebooks, too.

Tenchu - Depending on exactly how they do it, Blackford sounds like something MB makerw won't exactly love compared to AMD's HT system. 2 CPU busses + the memory bus coming out of the NB sounds like it could present some trace routing difficulties, at least if you want to use a 4-layer board.
Paul
chipdesigner - CPU-Z leaves a lot to be desired in Vcore sensing. It says my XP-M 2500+ is at 1.824V when it's actually at @ 1.90V, so I wouldn't put too much stock in that reading.
Paul
Tenchu - I think it's a little early to be declaring PIC dud; after all, it's kicking off a whole new concept and product.
Paul
Leave it to Tom's! Check out the MSI "Turion 64" notebook they show here.

Intel is really going overboard with their Centrino co-marketing funding aren't they? :P
Paul
NaS - I'm finding myself in a similar situation re: ASPs. At least re: CPUs.
Paul
Keith - I like their marketing-think in this case. Every "Joe Six-pack" has dealt with the annoying "hourglass wait". I'm surprised Intel hadn't already jumped on it!
Regardless whether or not it will be "shattered" or eliminated by dual core, the marketing angle has to be exploited. And the hourglass will appear less with DCs.
Paul
CJ - Maybe they're hoping AMD will have a major malfunction in their server DC chips, then ol' reliable Intel can ride in and save the day. A hope I don't think they'll see realized.
Paul
Maybe this is why IBM hasn't gone "whole hog" on Opteron blade servers.

Keith - No kidding! I guess Fab25 has suddenly reverted to CPU production?! :P
CJ - Aw, c'mon - ya mean ya never wanted to OC your router?? ;)
Ruiz on growth opportunity.

Duke - Considering that Arimas are usually rebadged and sold by retailers, I don't think it'll be much of a problem. :)
Wonder whose flash these folks will be using? Consiering AMD's high reliability, I'd think they'd be a prime candidate.

Dan3 - Wish Arima had some better images of their products!
To add a little more confusion to the X2 availability date -
"The decision eliminates overlap between the single-core Athlon 64 and dual-core Athlon 64 X2 chips, whose model numbers start at 4200+. They are due in desktops in June."

wbmw - re: "Thanks, AMD!" Don't count those chickens too soon. ;)
200-300mm conversion. Does AMD plan the same for FAB30?

Looks to be very little difference between socket 940 and socket M2, just the placement of the "missing" pins in the grid. The number of pins looks to be unchanged.

Athlon 64 Venice core power picture explored
by Scott Wasson - 12:58 am, May 3, 2005
Michael Schuette over at LostCircuits....
...Oh yeah, and he got his 3800+ to run stable at 2.8GHz, too, which also isn't bad.
I have a Venice core in house here for testing. We should have some results from it before too long, but some even more interesting CPUs may be first in line. "
Sounds like fun!! :)
imho - And just how much money did Intel's flash make??
:)
Didn't think so...
Joe, it's not that I don't think it should be discussed. It's just that it's been discussed to death!
If some new info comes to light, like the JFTC ruling did, I'm all for discussing that, but to continually go over and over and over the same old ground(hmmm.., sounds like Pink Floyd)just gets a little old.
If and when the Europeans come up with something, that will certainly warrant a discussion!
Paul
Comparative design/process K8 review(including Venice).
http://www.lostcircuits.com/cpu/amd_venice/
Joe, I can't say that I have a satisfactory answer for that.
Paul
BUGGI1000 - No, you're not. I find it fascinating that the discussion is focused on this at a time when AMD arguably has superior products in all segments except mobile and Itanium's little niche. I wonder why that is...
Paul
PS. And Elmer, I don't subscribe to your definition of a "product". If K8 exactly as it exists now were in Intel's hands, they'd have shut AMD down by now. Would there have been any difference in the product? No, just in the company presenting it and its marketing and sales forces, as well as its perceived place in the market.
As usual, AMD's marketing needs to get on the ball. PIC is not even mentioned here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4496901.stm
chipguy - Where on earth did that little diatribe come from? Makes one wonder what you had for breakfast. There was nothing vaguely socialistic, fascist or utopian about Keith's comment, just a recognition of a bad situation, so why the speech that sounds it was written by Chinese Communist party?
Though he hasn't given specifics(probably for the sake of privacy), Keith has given me no reason to doubt his claim of first-hand experience of the tactics. It's not like Keith has shown a tendency to be one of the tinfoil hatters in the past, and he's been more than willing to call a spade a spade when it comes to AMD's failings.
Paul
tecate - I suppose Intel would be an Israeli and Irish company, then?
Paul
