I prefer the original. I feel it's more genuine. That's why I make my edits underneath my original posts.
Not if they weren't granted all the necessary approvals of operation....
But who will work there? We only have two employees. Again, hiring a VN staff would be GREAT news, but it's not the news we got...
I disagree with that assessment of the text. If open and running, there would be more in the PR, no? I think in that context Open ~ Leased.
So....What are we talking about here? Double dipping on minor news seems amateurish.
Addition: One of those two instances (CC or PR) are unnecessary. I don't care which one you prefer, but the second is superfluous.
Addition 2: Please don't get me wrong. I get how an office is a necessity to getting things done in VN, but we've already heard this and signing a lease != hiring employees and OPENING the office.
You will realize the importance of this step the longer you remain an investor.
Listen, I like that they're trying to communicate more regularly. I'm glad they have an office.
That said, this PR is doing just what they thought it would which is to forecast news about Vietnam when there is no news of substance. To me, it's slippery. That's all. We'll see what the PPS does, but if it recedes, this board will just say 'Well it's healthy to consolidate blah blah blah'. This is old-KBLB. I hoped we had turned a page.
Way to sign a lease, though! Who's going to work there I wonder? What are we going to do with a full-time office in a foreign nation? Do we have employees to put there? THAT would be newsworthy.
Is there an actual transcript of the call? I think they were more forceful with their wording than their own summary...
Edit: I say this because people made the EXACT same arguments in December. "Wow they definitely wouldn't have gotten an office there if they weren't serious in Vietnam."
It's a question of scale and timing, something I guess Kim will never understand. It's not bad news, it's just not news. An office does not a production facility make and like I said THEY ALREADY USED THIS OFFICE TO FORECAST THEIR GREAT SUCCESS IN VIETNAM IN DECEMBER.
They mentioned this office in the December conference call. I'm glad they signed the lease and everything (think Kim carried Jon over the threshold?) but this goes to mine and mojo's point about Kim's complete lack of a sense of momentum.
Everything's cool, sky's not falling, nothing's worse than last week, but this is not worthy of a PR when the expectations are so high. Put it in the newsletter because it's small talk.
Whoa whoa whoa, this is a lease on office space. Where do you get the sense that the State Department was involved based on the PR?
Ew. Newsletter material. I got excited by the email header.
I thought we had this office at the conference call?
I'm NO chartist, but this movement all seems really robust and healthy!
Exactly. Pure spider silk is a fools goal. We can beat it through customization.
Only spiders can make pure spider silk. Anything else is only ever a biomimic. That's a goal that is sought by those that lack the big picture.
I truly hope Kim understands the value of striking while the iron's hot. It's red hot, and cooling it won't kill what we've built this week by any means, but you're absolutely right that historically he, like Lucille Bluth, has gotten off on being withholding.
SS news letter tuesday and a lucky pr on monday will make a bluesky.
I know it will be coming, but I feel like past performance has shown that KBLB doesn't always know how to capitalize on hot moments timewise. I think this may be the time where they turn the tide.
I have always liked the science, and I really want to start liking the business. I'm a happy camper this week though, and I haven't been able to say that for a long while :)
EDIT: I mean JEEZ, 0.0366 just hit for a bit! Last week this was a ghost stock and now we're setting volume records. What a fun world the biotech sector can be.
Love the volume/PPS action this week. The PopSci articles are really doing a great job getting fresh eyes on KBLB. The Army contract lit the fuse, but I think one more big PR (production site that's up and running, less likely but UA/Nike) can really kick this into high gear.
When you have the press that we're getting based off the Army contract, it's not out of the realm of possibility to have this mentioned on major news outlets, and a 1-2 punch of Army + Full scale production could really get this thing cooking.
Ha, KBLB made it to Fark. That tickles me in a nice spot.
Interesting! I know MUCH more about the DNA/Protein properties than what the textile people are capable of, but you're absolutely right in that it's a totally independent point of customization....
Once you change the properties it would no longer be DS as it's defined today.
Recall, each strain (Big Red, Monster Silk, Dragon Silk) has a very specific genetic insert that has been bred to homozygosity, at which point it must be sequestered (unless crosses are desired). Changing the properties of that insert (changing the DNA->Protein) by definition would require a new strain to be produced and brought to homozygosity.
Any change to the DNA that leads to new properties would also necessitate a new moniker (DS 2.0, etc; DS-Lite; DS-ManOfSteel)
EDIT: Additionally, I suppose with respect to timing it would matter if you're starting from the platform worm (from 'scratch') or starting from pre-existing strains and adding something.
At this point in the conversation, it's important to realize that the layman's understanding of ballistics and protective gear (which is all I have and most here share) will not compare to the people that actually study the physics and science of ballistics.
Rigidity has its place, and so does elasticity. Both are important for different components of protection and functionality.
On this board it's important to not over-simplify based on what our 'gut instinct' says should be best, and leave that to the actual Army engineers.
EDIT: It sounds like you're implying that Im suggesting that this is a replacement for Kevlar, when instead, think of what elasticity/flexibility can provide to other clothing layers (flexible, lightweight underarmor/arms/legs) as well as materials you'd rather bullets bounce off of than pierce (parachutes, tents, etc).
I don't mean to suggest an all spider silk military outfit, but rather a leap foward in lightweight, flexible, and REALLY strong (but not as strong) materials to do the jobs that Kevlar is too stiff to be used for.
Hear, hear!
A great day, hopefully the first of a series over a relatively short time.
Gosh, CERTAINLY from the PR side... a crummy bunch of floaters for the past few months. This finally had some meat.
Watch the close on HOD, son :)
So, I know we'd all be giving WAGs, but I assume that DoD fibers have to be reeled and spun in the US, given previous KBLB chatter?
I wonder then if we may hear about the US site before VN...
how is that better than Kevlar?
Even better :)
Even if it falters a few points at the end of the day, the story of today is the volume. People took notice in RECORD numbers, and we got covered in REAL news outlets, with articles written by people with High School Diplomas, at least! That's news in an of itself for KBLB :)
No, it's not. It's holding a 29% gain for the day and has been for a while. What numbers are you looking at?
Real Time: 0.0258, Bid: 0.0255, Ask: 0.026
With, if I'm not mistaken, a 5Y record for volume? That's hard to see on my chart.
Explain to me, like you would a child, why it matters if a soldier gets shot in the back versus the front with modern weaponry. Please. I honestly am interested in your opinion.
EDIT: Let me just clarify my position.
1) As shown by Es1, shoot packs, as defined by the DoD, are projectile testing units which are used to test how far a projectile can penetrate a certain material.
2) Getting shot in the front or the back (which SEEMS to be your distinction?) are both potentially deadly events, making the distinction functionally moot, in MY opinion.
3) If the DoD wants to test our materials for their penetrability, and assuming the materials excel in their tests, then how could you possibly think that it matters what the initial tests are done on, be it a vest to protect the body, or a backpack to protect the solider and their gear?
Now, KBLB, you NEED to capitalize on this with a Pop-Sci article. Something the buying public at large will see. Spider Silk protection is sexy, so put it out there! Call Wired, call HuffPost, call 'em all.
Write or sponsor a WELL WRITTEN article introducing the tech with graphics and listing the specs we know so far. Make it accessible to the public and increase buying pressure.
I agree with you there, that the next big milestone is acquiring and renovating (to whatever small degree is necessary) a full production site. I also expect to hear something on this soon. I just think that there will be a significant gap of time between acquiring a farm and starting full-scale production, given KBLB's history.
That doesn't necessarily mean that the PPS can't rise in the meantime. Final purchase and renovation of a full-production site may allow for some interested partners to finally put in orders, which could be PR'd before production even begins.
I hope we hear something in July, as I'm really starting to feel the heat on this one.
I expect to hear that production has begun somewhere
The prospectus is available on KBLB's website (SEC Filings). It's not a mystery. Dates line up.
I think that's because Bolt Threads is much more aware of their public perception. They at least LOOK legit, and so if they're going to do all that press, it has to be US-centric press. Eco-friendly, youthful startup, hip, etc.
KBLB has no public perception (possibly industry, but nothing outside of that), and reports like this make it LOOK like every Joe Noel stinky-pinky out there, regardless of whether that's an accurate reflection or not.
More and more in today's world
