No, SCOTUS ruling does not overturn all state restrictions on concealed carry
In other words, Kavanaugh made it clear that the vast majority of state laws for concealed carry can remain in place following the June 23 decision. However, several states will have to modify their existing laws to comply with the ruling, expanding the ability of millions of people to obtain concealed carry permits.

Concealed Carrying a Gun Without a Permit in Utah
Utah eliminated its concealed carry permit requirements. Now, according to Utah Code § 76-10-523(5), any person who is at least 21 years old and can lawfully possess a firearm can concealed carry. No additional permits are necessary.
While the requirement for a concealed carry permit is practically eliminated, the system for obtaining a permit still exists, and you can apply for a concealed carry permit if you wish. Typically, a person eligible to lawfully possess a firearm will be granted a concealed carry permit within 60 days after applying for one.
If you are eligible to legally purchase and possess a firearm in Utah, you are also free to concealed carry that firearm. However, you may be charged with a crime for carrying a concealed firearm if you do not meet the eligibility requirements for obtaining a firearm in the first place.

Utah is a Castle Doctrine state (called defense of habitation) and has a “stand your ground” law. There is no duty to retreat if a person feels deadly force is justified to prevent a felony from being committed any place where a person has a legal right to be.

Article V of the U.S. Constitution gives states the power to call a Convention of States to propose amendments. It takes 34 states to call the convention and 38 to ratify any amendments that are proposed. Our convention would only allow the states to discuss amendments that, “limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints, and place term limits on federal officials.”

"The government -- not the armed forces -- is stockpiling hundreds of millions of rounds of ammunition for domestic use."
June 27, 2014
The claim:
James Buchal, an Oregon Republican challenging Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., clearly has concerns. His campaign website includes a photograph of an ominous-looking armored vehicle below copy in which Buchal says part of his campaign will "focus on raising awareness of the threat to America’s future posed by an out-of-control total surveillance state."
He adds, "The government -- and not the armed forces -- is stockpiling hundreds of millions of rounds of ammunition for domestic use."
Is the government stockpiling that much ammunition? PolitiFact Oregon checked.
The analysis:
We emailed Buchal, who pointed to a Government Accountability Office report released Feb. 12, 2014.
The report, "Ammunition Purchases Have Declined Since 2009," was produced in response to questions from U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla.
In a letter dated Nov. 13, 2012, Coburn wrote to Janet Napolitano, then the head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security: "It has been reported that DHS has recently purchased large amounts of ammunition, as much or more than 1 billion rounds according to some estimates."
Some claims put the figure at 1.6 billion rounds. Another set had it at 2.7 billion. Still others fretted about the alleged retrofitting of more than 2,700 heavily armored military vehicles that were going to be turned over to domestic police forces.
The GAO report found that as of October 2013, DHS had about 159 million rounds -- enough to meet the training and operational needs of its firearm-carrying personnel for about 22 months, it said. The agency has more than 70,000 armed personnel, the most of any federal agency, according to the report.
The Department of Justice is second with 69,000 armed personnel. The DOJ reported its ammunition inventory as enough to last from 13 to 20 months. The report did not translate that to specific figures but provided other information that enabled it to calculate a range of about 90 million to about 138 million rounds.
Together, those two agencies represent 80 percent of federal armed personnel, and together they have roughly 250 million to 300 million rounds of ammunition on hand.

Palin outpaced her rivals in the primary. Now she faces new challenges.
June 22, 2022
Palin, whose campaign did not make her available for an interview, showed in the primary that she is still a political force in the state where she ascended from municipal government to vice-presidential nominee in 2008. She advanced from a crowded field of 48 candidates with the most support. After outperforming some expectations by claiming about 27 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results set to be certified on Saturday, she is now a top target of her rivals in the next stage of the race — which culminates Aug. 16.
But at a moment of sharp polarization across America, some Alaskans in Wasilla and beyond said they are far more interested in deals that would benefit their far-flung state than political combat. With only one seat in the U.S. House and needs that are often different from the rest of the country, these voters said in interviews since polls closed June 11, they are eager to elect a representative who is willing to buck party lines and work across the aisle. That sentiment could pose a challenge for Palin, a combative conservative, as she gears up for a ranked-choice general election that experts said might benefit candidates with broad appeal.
“The theory is that it favors candidates who have strengths across the ideological spectrum,” longtime Alaska pollster Ivan Moore said, referring to the ranked-choice voting system. “And that is not the case with Sarah Palin, because she is polarizing.

More Obamacare, anyone? Biden illegally attempts to expand Affordable Care Act
June 15, 2022
The Affordable Care Act (ACA), better known as Obamacare, is one of the most controversial political measures in recent American history. Passed by Democrats in Congress and signed into law by Democratic President Barack Obama, the act has been heavily criticized by conservatives who argue it is unconstitutional.
More than ten years after it was officially enacted on March 23, 2010, the merits of Obamacare are still debated, its effects deeply unpopular. Polling from March 2022 reveals that while a slight majority of Americans hold favorable views on the ACA, public opinion is generally divided.
Setting aside public opinion, however, it is explicitly clear that the ACA is unconstitutional, at least in part, and Congress “exceeded the bounds of its authority in passing the Act,” specifically in passing the individual mandate.
But now, Joe Biden, arguably one of the most unconstitutional presidents in our history, is seeking to expand Obamacare - and he’s doing it illegally.
For years, particular controversy has surrounded the ACA’s so-called “family glitch,” an apparent shortcoming in the Act’s design. The defect impacts “low to moderate income families” who can not access premium assistance and ultimately end up purchasing coverage that is “unaffordable.” Although Congress has repeatedly attempted to correct the “glitch,” its efforts have always failed.
Former White House and Senate policy adviser, Doug Badger, explained that some of the reasons for Congress not following through on fixing the “family glitch” include the fact that to do so would be expensive (previous proposals would have added an estimated $45 billion to the federal deficit over ten years) and that it would incentivize “companies to contribute less to dependent coverage.”

EV maker Nikola 'evaluating' making its own battery packs, says CFO
Jun 16, 2022, 09:51
Electric-truck maker Nikola Corp (NKLA) is "evaluating options" to make its own battery packs in 2024, Chief Financial Officer Kim Brady said on Thursday.
"If in-sourcing opportunity is available to us, and if we decide to explore that, that will likely be in 2024," Brady said at the Deutsche Bank Global Auto Industry conference, adding to "ultimately" increase volume and reduce costs Nikola may have to explore that option.
Currently, Nikola sources its batteries from LG Energy Solution (373220), while the company signed a supply deal with Proterra Inc (PTRA) in January.
Brady reiterated the company's target to make 300 to 500 Tre battery electric trucks this year, but said supply chain snarls remain a concern.
He said Nikola aims to localize its parts sourcing as much as possible to North America, saying most of its parts were coming from Europe now.

Afghanistan: Why the US is there, why it's leaving, what will happen when it's gone
April 15, 2021
President Joe Biden's promise to remove US troops from Afghanistan by September 11 is his effort -- each of the last four presidents has had one -- to end America's longest war.
The deadline for Biden's withdrawal is significant -- September 11, 2021, is 20 years after the 9/11 terror attacks in New York, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania that led the US to target Afghanistan in the first place.
Those two decades have seen more than 2,300 US military lives lost, tens of thousands of US wounded, countless Afghan casualties and more than $2 trillion in taxpayer money spent.
After all that, the last US troops to depart -- some of them surely born after the 9/11 attacks -- will leave parts of Afghanistan under the control of the same oppressive Taliban leaders who were there in 2001.
America's longest war draws to a close

Red Flag Laws, Firearms, & Due Process
April 4th, 2019
During the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing, senators on both sides of the aisle and all the hearing’s witnesses stressed the importance of protecting the due process rights of legal gun owners in any red flag legislation that the Committee considers.
In a response to a question posed by Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) during the hearing, David Kopel laid out what he believed should be the minimum for due process protections in red flag laws.
This included using ex parte hearings only if petitioners prove it to be an absolute necessity in the case of immediate danger. Additionally, evidence should be “clear and convincing” at all levels of hearings throughout the process, a higher burden of proof than most states require when the process is initiated. Defendants should have an appointed counsel, and the right to bring forth witnesses to support their case and cross examine witnesses brought against them. Lastly, defendants should be able to seek justice for any false or malicious testimony used to strip them of their right to bear arms.
