Applied DNA Sciences' DNA Fog Product to Be Featured on National Canada TV
'Daily Planet' Will Showcase Anti-Intrusion System in Action at Brink's Facility, 7 PM EST,
Monday, February 3
STONY BROOK, NY, February 3, 2014. Applied DNA Sciences (OTCQB: APDN), (Twitter: @APDN), a provider of DNA-based anti-counterfeiting technology and product authentication solutions, is pleased to announce that its DNA Fog/Smoke Cloak anti-intrusion product and forensic services will be featured on the popular national Discovery Channel Canada TV show, Daily Planet, today, Monday, February 3. The show will also be available on the Daily Planet website and via the APDN website on Tuesday, February 4, details below.
The segment - informative, funny, and dramatic in turns - was filmed on location at APDN's labs in Stony Brook, New York, and at an ultra-high security facility owned by APDN partner Brink's, a global leader in security-related services.
DNA Fog/Smoke Cloak is a device which deploys in a crime attempt, taking only seven seconds to fill a room with a fog that immobilizes and marks a criminal with a DNA-based identifier. That mark on a suspect may be authenticated by police with absolute accuracy. The word "amazing" figured prominently in media reports when the product was first rolled out last fall.
The show is a chance for followers of APDN's unique, DNA-based technology to see one of its products in action.
The TV feature, a short segment on a longer show, shows this truly unique device in action, and visits APDN labs where the company's forensic authentication analysis takes place.
DNA Fog combines APDN's DNAnet® taggant with the smoke deployment device made by SmokeCloak, A/S (MSS Professional, or "MSS") of Agerhatten, Denmark. It is commonly packaged with APDN's Sentry 500 DNA spray, a device with a similar but more localized effect. The Sentry 500, which produces a targeted spray directed at the suspect, may be combined with the room-filling DNA Fog/Smoke Cloak to provide daunting protection against crimes, as viewers will see in the video.

Thanks SP. Interesting that most comments suggest "counterfeit" is just a ruse by Cannon to sell more "high-priced" batteries.
Thanks WT. Great news although I'm not sure we'll get it in the US...

America’s Missile Defense System Could Be As Useless As The Maginot Line
BASIL HART, CONTRIBUTOR JAN. 27, 2014, 12:11 PM
"Even as each post in the Army is being forced to disband a brigade apiece, Air Defense and the Missile Defense Agency have never received such a high proportion of budgetary spending."

DLA Land and Maritime has canceled the DLA Land and Maritime Industry Outreach Forums Engine and Turbine Components, Mechanical Power Transmission that was scheduled Wednesday February 05, 2014 and Pipe and Tubing, Hoses, Valves, Pumps and Compressors scheduled Wednesday February 26, 2014. A new schedule is being established. Once firm dates are established the information will be posted on DIBBS Banner, FedBizOps, and Email Broadcast.
This may mean little, however, I personally believe it's very telling...
Kevin Sink, Vice President, Total Quality at TTI, Inc. (a Berkshire Hathaway company), "is recognized as a top industry thought leader on this important issue of counterfeit avoidance, Sink speaks frequently in the U.S. and abroad addressing relevant counterfeit issues and ongoing critical legislation surrounding the topic." And while passives and other items (resistors, capacitors, connectors, potentiometers, trimmers, magnetic circuit protection, filters, relays, switches, sensors and discrete semiconductor devices) TTI sells are not currently DNA Mandated I'm even more convinced that it's just a matter of time before they are.
Specifically, I find it encouraging that Mr. Sink's "LinkedIn" page, aside from other TTI contacts and Industry QC types, includes a link to our very own Janice Meraglia. Now while this could be unrelated to any TTI acceptance of our technology, I prefer to think of it as a sign of things to come. BTW both Sager and Mouser Electronics are also under the TTI/Berkshire umbrella...

Mcs, Re: Janice Meraglia. You might find this interesting also. I posted it last month...

Hey Mcs, Janice has been a cornerstone of all Military work/conferences. Search her name on ADNAS site, here's what you get... a very key player.

I'm fine with that as long as our Revs per employee starts to climb.
Here's something I've kept an eye on for a while, it was in the mid 50Ks, now Rev per Employee: "$41,556", expect this year it'll get to 6 figures...

Great. Thanks A4L. In that event it sure seems we're gearing-up for significant changes...

Hope this doesn't mean we're loosing Janice Meraglia as VP, Government & Military Prgms. I'm kinda surprised she didn't get the title... unless the Director reports to her?
If I had the funds I'd be all over that 800K+ ask and watch it grow 20% or so in the next few days. That's IMO, of course...
A1M, I think the cyber threat goes beyond any single FSC or the DoD for that matter. Indeed it underscores the need for "supply chain security" in all facets of commerce and information. Here's a snippet from the White House regarding initiatives being considered/taken... (all of which IMO enhance our position).
The Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative
Initiative #11. Develop a multi-pronged approach for global supply chain risk management.
"...Risks stemming from both the domestic and globalized supply chain must be managed in a strategic and comprehensive way over the entire lifecycle of products, systems and services. Managing this risk will require a greater awareness of the threats, vulnerabilities, and consequences associated with acquisition decisions; the development and employment of tools and resources to technically and operationally mitigate risk across the lifecycle of products (from design through retirement); the development of new acquisition policies and practices that reflect the complex global marketplace; and partnership with industry to develop and adopt supply chain and risk management standards and best practices..."
http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/foreign-policy/cybersecurity/national-initiative
Given the Nexus between Cybersecurity and Counterfeit Parts - see Supply Chain Risk and Cybersecurity at:
http://www.rjo.com/updatesJMC-RSM-02132013.html
"Protecting the supply chain includes defense both against “fakes” that will fail when used and protection against “taints” which harbor cybersecurity risks. Should a microelectronic part contains malicious code, when incorporated in a communications system, for example, the malicious code may infect other hardware or software within the system or be used to exfiltrate sensitive information"
and also Counterfeit Parts, the Supply Chain and Cyber Security: New Contractor Responsibilities at:
http://www.cvent.com/events/counterfeit-parts-the-supply-chain-and-cyber-security-new-contractor-responsibilities/event-summary-ada3478e355548c7a5c4120ca49babe7.aspx
Both papers point to a relationship which impacts an article in "Inside Defense". Here's a teaser released today...
"DOD Readying New Guidance On Cybersecurity In The Acquisition System
Inside the Pentagon, Jan. 16, 2014 -- Defense Department officials are readying a new regime of cybersecurity policies to be applied to the acquisition of weapon systems, allowing program officials six months to comply once the guidance is released, according to a Defense Acquisition University professor."
http://insidedefense.com/
So, there's even more reason to weed out the fakes... "the taints" or cyber-threat! And that too is HIGH Priority!
Can't help but wonder if/when the FTDs (as we spoke of before) gets to 100. If I recall that's when "they" set us free. Those numbers follow the month after, at least for us, right? (Although I suspect someone has real-time access...)
Sounds like either a mistake or someone knows something.
On another note, the news front seems pretty quite. I did come across something though, that may or may not be pertinent, on DoD's website.
Today in the Department of Defense, Thursday, January 16, 2014
Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Frank Kendall will deliver remarks on "Investing in Innovation: R&D and the Future of the Defense-Industrial Base" at 6:30 p.m. EST, in the Crystal Room, Willard Intercontinental Hotel, 1401 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Washington, D.C.

Sure would be great to hear something of their investment in our Innovation...
As always, thanks for the info Mcs. Nice to have an Engineer on board.
Here's an upcoming "Summit" meeting I wish we were part of rather than Nokomis...(I believe they too are in the running for Phase 2 award from MDA?)
Wednesday, February 26, 2014 (http://www.aerodefevent.com/summit-2/executive-insights-series/)
Panel Discussion: “Cyber Security, Counterfeit Parts & Materials:
An Escalating Global Challenge for Aerospace & Defense Manufacturers”
As our data systems are increasingly intertwined with one another, how do we avoid, survive, and recover from advanced cyber threats? The volume of counterfeit parts in the supply chain is increasing. How do we recognize them and avoid part failures?
This panel will address issues that will help aerospace and defense manufacturers deal more effectively with outside cyber threats and recognize the increasing number of counterfeit parts in the supply chain.
PANELISTS:
Richard M. (Dickie) George (moderator), Senior Advisor for Cyber Security, Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab
Barry Birdsong, Division Chief, Parts and Materials Engineering, Missile Defense Agency
Stephen Dill, Chief Architect, Cyber Security, Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Services
Walter Keller, CEO, Nokomis, Inc. (Click on his name for more info re: Nokomis)
Never mind. For those who read original post... It was taken from last years schedule, sorry for the error.
About 6 months ago, as reported by Henry Livingston (http://counterfeitparts.wordpress.com/2013/06/13/hasc-calls-for-mda-to-assess-the-use-of-assembly-level-stress-testing-to-detect-counterfeit-parts/)
"In its 7 June report, the US House of Representatives Committee on Armed Services directs the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) to assess the use modern highly accelerated life testing and highly accelerated stress screening (HALT/HASS) testing equipment and processes as a means to reveal “latent design flaws (including those based on the use of faulty or counterfeit parts) that can go undetected with legacy testing approaches... The committee directs that the results of this assessment be briefed to the congressional defense committees by not later than January 15, 2014."
Sounds to me like a good opportunity for the MDA to share other Anti-Counterfeit efforts with HASC as well.
