I don't know that he is still affiliated with Zengen, but there are certainly some interesting connections between PRB/Lee's Pharmaceutical/Zengen. You may be right, but I didn't see him listed as a Board member on their website.
As your post points out, though, he's quite a busy guy...lol

His title is CEO/President. For the time being, he is the Media/Press Contact. Tony indicated in the TWST Interview that the company is adding a Director of Marketing. We should see soon enough.

Slopster...In terms of position, it means nothing. Tony is CSO, Chief Scientific Officer. But, it means they've announced the identity of another one of the officers mentioned in the TWST Article. They still need to announce the name of the new Director of Marketing and we'll know who all the major management personnel are at DNAPrint.

Doug...More importantly, DNAP needs a way to protect the security of it's maps and algorithms, while at the same time setting up a user friendly way for collaborators to access the power of the platform. They don't have the resources or manpower to be the whole tree, and if you read the filings going all the way back to the start, it was never their intention to be the whole tree. Just a node, or I think more appropriately, the "root" of the discovery machine.

Theo...Think of the branches of a tree. They have to be supported by a solid trunk. The trunk must be fed by good roots.
Now the roots are very good at providing nourishment to the trunk, and the trunk is able to pass along the nourishment and provide the support that the branches need. You need the three elements in order for the tree to prosper.
So the question is asked, are the roots connected to the branches? Answer, no, they're connected to the trunk. The trunk is connected to the branches.

OK, so we don't have a connection to DNA Phenomics. Does that mean that those of us that saw what we saw were the victims of a mass halucination? Not at all.
It seems obvious that the company doesn't want us poking around in this right now, so I'll only say this. Think about what you do know about both companies and you'll probably see a way that we may be related, yet not connected.

itsonlymuni...You are correct. Any time I see someone breying about their immoral and unethical behavior I consider it a personal affront.
Tell me, do you ever consider the cost in human lives due to the damage that a bunch of well financed crooks perpetuate? When a close family member succumbs to a deadly disease, doesn't it bother you that a crook may have squashed a company that could have prevented it?
You bet I consider it a personal affront. And unlike those that seem concerned only with how it will affect their checkbooks, I don't sit idly and accept it as business as usual.
When DNAP one day rises above the shameless scoundrels, I may just take my millions and make it my life's work to see to it that the crooks get their just rewards.
That's what I would call a reality check...

tom...I meant to make this the first non-principal to post on your new board, but when I tried to submit iHub had a problem with your board. To bad really cause I think it's a doozy. I ordered the complete TWST CEO Interview with Tony Frudakis...all nine pages. Fascinating stuff in there.
It is copyrighted material so I can't reproduce it verbatim here on the board. It is available through yahoo business for $50.00 for anyone wishing to get the short term and long term outlook from DNAPrint's perspective.
In it Dr. Frudakis discusses in greater detail what he means by DNAPrint becoming a pharmaceutical company (they are working very hard at acquiring their own drug pipeline right now); a general time frame for the addition of up to 100 employees; the need for a larger building and the fact that they would build new, not build out; the need for an additional high throughput genotyping system devoted to clinical genotyping (even though the one they have does 160,000 genotypes per day); they will have a clinical genotyping operation up and running by the end of the year; near-term capital financing by their investment banking group; company Management - including a new Director of Marketing and new Medical Officer; the need to graduate from the OTCBB in a way that doesn't alienate existing investors coupled with the graduation to a pharma company (It will not be a bunch of small changes, but rather a couple of very dramatic changes that lead to DNAPrint becoming a NASDAQ stock).
DNAP's success is derived from reading MORE than just the xenobiotic metablolism genes (as everyone else does) which tells only half the story concerning drug response. In order to understand upwards of 90-95% of the causes of drug response, one needs to be able to look at genomes. This is what we do and ONLY we can do that.
Again, I don't want to quote directly from the document, but the bottom line is that Tony says that long term their business is about developing the most powerful drugs that have ever been developed. They're in the process of completing some steps that are intermediate to that goal. That is referred to as Plan B, Plan A involves our work with existing drugs (such as Lipitor and Taxol) and will generate the near term revenues they need for growth.
This is an excellent interview that is full of good strategic information. Expect about $150K in revenue this quarter (which sounds light to me). The report doesn't indicate how much deferred income. Says we are reaching the point where we are probably going to make $1M/year from Ancestry alone, not counting forensics profiling revenue which is just getting started.
Lastly, no mention of what's going on in Malaysia whatsoever. But I'm guessing this will be an interesting 10Q.
Later,

Keiden...pretty interesting isn't it. Here's another one for you. The number two presenter on the agenda apparently didn't speak at all. As it turns out, UMICORP (Udoshi Medical Informatics), was acquired by a U.S. firm, HealthHighway.com and are now known as HealthHighway Asia Pvt. Ltd. Their stated intentions?
"We are now known as HealthHighway Asia Pvt. Ltd. and will be concentrating our research and development efforts on the integration of comprehensive practice management solutions, and the creation of next generation clincal toolsets for the U.S. Market and beyond."
Here's the new parent corporate website. There are interesting synergies:

DougS...A couple of points:
Q: If this is an important development to DNAP then why haven’t they said anything about it?
A: Same policy as all the other endeavors. No announcement until a deal is consummated. Given the potential boon this could be for DNAP, I think it would be wise to give it some time before hitting the panic button.
It is MHO, that we would not see DNAPrint's ADMIXMAP on DNA Phenomics website had a deal not been consummated. There are other plausible explanations for the lack of an announcement, but I don't believe the "Methods of Discovery" section of the website would be there before the deal had been signed.
With regards to the timing of the announcement itself, Tony has in the past stated very plainly, that they are not an Academic institution that will announce results as soon as they get them. That even their publications would be timed to coincide with partnership negotiations. From the July 2002 newsletter):
"We have written 2 scientific manuscripts and are writing a third. For products that may be partnered, the publication dates are set through the process of negotiation (i.e. we
are not a University and we do not rush to publish everything we have as soon as we have it.)" (BTW, based on these prior statements, and the fact that Ancestry was just published in the Journal of Forensic Science, I suspect we will soon see a Forensic partner announced.)
So as relates to our relationship to DNA Phenomics, I think we'll get the explanation from the company in accordance with whatever strategic plan is in place. Clearly a move such as this is strategic in nature, and because of that may well need to be coordinated with other events, but I doubt that there remains any ambiguity at DNAPrint regarding the nature of this deal.
Of course this is just my opinion.

I'm not certain why you have a burning desire to elicit my "vocation", however, if you've been reading my recent posts over on the RB Board you will have noted that I revealed my true identity in a post to dragon.

GE...excellent point you make regarding the drug development aspects. It is easier to get products to market overseas. And a product already proven in a foreign market, in turn, shortens the FDA approval process when the decision is made to bring it to the U.S.
Later,
W2P
BBBabe...If you are referring to the old DNAPRO PR from July 2001, yes I did, and together with Arch's earlier question regarding Orchid, it stimulated the "I wonder..." post.
Let me know what you think...

I wonder...
Anyone who has not read the original Orchid Opton should go find it and read it. It is an attachment to the company's April 2001 10K filing.
http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1127354/000107087601000054/0001070876-01-000054-0006.txt
I believe it to be akin to an attempt at forced bondage on the part of Orchid. It is a disgustingly coercive document. Tony needed the equipment though, and my presumption is that he thought he could figure a way around it down the road. Sometimes you do what you have to do, given the circumstances presented at the time.
That being said, note that the option only applies to first right of refusal to "license" DNAPrint technology. As we have seen recently, both Tony's Performance Share agreement (which had as it's sole event, the signing of a deal to license one of the company's classifier products), and Luchese's Option Share Agreement (again heavily determinant on Luchese finding a licensing partner) were both substituted for alternative agreements. In both cases, the verbage in the 10K was similar: "At December 31, 2002 these performance measures have not yet been met, and as such the shares have not yet been issued. Furthermore because it is not probable at this time that the shares will be issued...". They go on to discuss the "change of control" clause and the fact that the BOD has resolved to revise the performance measures.
I believe the company no longer has intentions of "licensing" a product or products. I further believe that DNA Phenomics may well be majority owned by DNAPrint for this very reason.
The original company DNAPRO was 51% majority owned by Malaysians because they intended to gain direct grant funding from the Malaysian government. Malaysian law required that only Malaysian owned businesses were eligible for the grant funds.
DNA Phenomics, however, will gain it's revenue through collaborative efforts with Academia. I believe the subtle difference may be that the Academic Institutions will be the recipients of the grants, which will then be used to "sub-contract" work, collaboratively, with DNA Phenomics. DNAPrint gets to have their cake and eat it too. I would further presume that individual projects will be spread among various Institutions depending on the particular research interest of the University. Price tag: $200K per study with pre-negotiated rights to the developed IP.
This avoids the option because work that is being majority funded by a collaborative partner, in this case the Institution via the Malaysian government, is not subject to the option. The company would not have to be majority Malaysian, because they would not be the direct recipient of government grants. And any IP developed would be co-owned in a similar fashion as the work we are doing with PSU.
That's my take for whatever it's worth. Just an opinion though. We'll have to wait for a company announcement to understand what's really up in Malaysia.

bag7ger--
It almost looks like an en masse migration from RB. My guess is this board will have a tone much like, and may replace, the DNAP private board on RB. I try to monitor both, and have found both to be a supply of useful information.
If we can get indy, spook, mikenickels, dragon and a few others over here--while leaving the inane bashers and pumpers behind--this would be a well rounded board.

chig...Indeed. It may be that those requirements would be more favorable in the Asia-Pacific than in Europe as well.
Just what little I have read regarding the attitude towards business in Malaysia indicates to me that they are really looking to foster growth. I think that may be inherent in second and third tier economies. They're not at the place of the so-called "developed" world where they can take business for granted. They just want business to locate there and help grow their economies for the citizenry.
Just look at the reaction of the FDA to Roche and their rudimentary cytochrome P450 chip for drug metabolism. Certainly more than Roche bargained for...

If you read my original post to Mahastock I also acknowledged that the evidence I have seen so far strongly favors a direct relationship between DNAP and DNA Phenomics ("strongly favors"--another hedge phrase; meaning that I haven't yet seen the proof).
And what would you call the fact that DNAP's Website banner, an aerial photo of Sarasota, and DNAPrint Asia-Pacific images were in DNA Phenomics website image files, if not proof of association? Just a bizarre coincidence? lol
Sometimes very good due diligence may uncover relationships that the parties didn't intend to be discovered, yet. If, as you seem to be suggesting, we should all wait for a definitive statement on the part of the companies before acting, one will miss opportunities to invest before the knowledge of the association drives the price up.
If I were inclined to do that, I could save a lot of time if I quit digging around for information, and just wait for the company PR's. Of course by that time I may also have missed a great buying opportunity.

chris...we are going global, at the very least as partners of some sort...
So here we are in Chicago at the NMHCC Roundtable Discussion. I ask Tony if they ever got the computing power logjam solved. He says that no, that is still a problem for them.
Turns out the guy sitting next to me is from the University of Singapore. He says to Tony, we have access to a supercomputer with plenty of computing power. I have a different problem. I don't have Informatics Projects to keep my students busy in my four year degree program. Tony says, well we have plenty of projects. Maybe we could work something out where we swap computer time. They exchange phone numbers and addresses.
Ah, networking, you never know where it may lead. Do I know that that's how this came about? Heck no, but I do know that the above conversation took place. And I know that a professor, Dr. Gurinder Shahi, also works for the Unversity of Singapore.
This is from DNA Phenomics COO's bio:
Upon learning of the ground-breaking work unfolding in the field of genomics and following discussions at BioMalaysia 2002 with Dr. Gurinder Shahi, one of the region's most influential scientists, Ezehan turned his attention to the business of biotechnology. Working closely with his partners in the U.S., Ezehan assembled an experienced team of business leaders, scientists, and investors to quickly bring DNA Phenomics into existence.
...and that's the drift of it.
