Since 1997 when Hong Kong officials reported the H5N1
viral outbreak of avian (bird) flu, 151 million domestic birds
have died or been destroyed as the result of this killer

Please note the phrase: “antiviral prophylaxis.”
Prophylaxis means applying the remedy before the cure.
Longini’s assessment brings home the importance of a response
