Well he said that Rufus already knew who was screwing Alexander over and when they met he predicted what they would do to him. Rufus has insane connections and political pull.

When Alexander started getting calls from the shorters, proving Rufus was right, he took his advice and when the main shorter in charge found out (I forgot the name he mentioned) that guy totally paniced upon Rufus name.
