TIPS? "1984" is 18 years late.
SI seems to be dying. All I can get are DNS errors from it. It keeps having problems day after day. We may have to move over here.
Oh, I wanted to remind you that today is the 33rd anniversary of Chappaquiddick (as in "Ted Kennedy).
I resemble that!
Now you tell me.
And the market closed down as expected.
Fill 'er up, sir?
That certain person is not currently posting there, you know. Look at this as your vacation opportunity. Get the aggression out of your system. Instead of kicking Gloop around, you can kick me around.
Come on over to SMBR. A fight every post on the post.
Do you like finks? I know you better than that. I'm sure you don't.
Let me say this about that. The American people have a right to know whether their President is a crook. Your President is not a crook.
He's a pervert.
Hey, this GOOD! A WAG here too! And don't tell Mon Cherie who I am. I think the air of mystery will definitely help. What's going through her mind now is "I know this charming, handsome romantic stranger, but I can't place him."
And where's that psychiatrist you promised me?
Oh, but you do. What you don't know is science fiction.
The Mystery Man
(Don't you LOVE mystery?)
Mon Cherie, how good to see you here!
That other board has gone totally berserk. My end of it anyway. Have you noticed?
'lo, Mr. JXM. Is this a safe place to hide out? It feels like half that other board is trying to hunt me down.
She's been on SI. I'll tell her you asked about her.
Sounds good to me. I don't know if the liberals would agree with their description, but I'd go along with your description of conservative.
On the right, much else has been mixed in that is not that good, though. The Religious Right wants to use the GOP to push their social agenda. A fair amount of what they want conflicts with the Bill of Rights. Corporate executives want gov't money, even if that conflicts with fiscal responsibility.

Evile on SI cited that article to show good old Billy Graham agreed with him.
Someone commented "And it's it amazing how much Billy Grahem has grown and learned in the last 30 years. And how much someone else hasn't."
Nobody else has responded, but I liked it! Actually, all of them are good. Thanks for the jokes!
Please read this (and this goes double for my friend Slippy -g) as a description rather than an argument.
OUCH! <removes verbal knife from his back. >
My family was largely uneducated but very hard working.
Mt father quit school in 8th grade. Not because of school; he had to go to work.
I am the first woman in my famiy to graduate from college, which I did on full scholarship
I'm the fist and so far the only person to graduate. I also went on scholarship (books, fees, tuition).
Something ws just on CNN Headline News about an organization collecting funds to buy supplies for girl's school in Afghanistan. I think that's what it was about; unfortunately, I didn't start paying attention until the end. If anyone hears the organization name, contact me.
I grew up in a place where it was still looked down upon to be Irish.
And I completely (fortunately) missed that part of being Irish. My family came to America about 1853 (potato famine, of course), so they were thoroughly Americanized by the time I was born. And we lived in Arizona. Mexican immigrants were the lowest caste there; we were on the side of God and the High and Mighty.
The Kennedy family, despite the personal foibles of many of their members
Now THERE'S an understatement.
I think the terms "liberal" and "conservative" may be somewhat muddied
More than somewhat. For example, if the Democrats put up a candidate I find at all acceptable and the Republicans put up a Religious Rightist, goodbye party lines. I'd say I'm socially liberal and fiscally conservative. I don't like Republicans who want to spend every cent they can steal from me either.
Reagan is regarded by many as a Republican Hero, almost a god to some. I live in CA where he was governor. Just as he left office in hs last term, he signed a bill starting payroll witholding in CA for the first time. The effects of course were rising taxes. As predicted by critics of the bill. You don't notice the theft as much if its done a piece each week rather than one big chunk once a year.
In my mind, "liberal" is a fundamentally democratic (note small 'd') worldview
What, you think we want to dig up George III?
There are conservatives who think popular control of the gov't and those guarantees in the Bill of Rights are largely what it's all about. The rest of the Constitution isn't worth much without that.
the government has the right to ensure that its citizens are treated fairly, despite their color, IQ, nation of origin, etc.
As that applies to civil rights, yes. Excluding Caucasians and Asians from colleges so blacks and Hispanics can be admitted. Nuts!
Yes, ma'am.
(On SI Nudist Arena, I referre to E as "the Madam" as "Does the Madam wish ....?"). Ouch, did she jump on THAT! "The MADAM? WHO are you calling a Madam?!")
Now this could be interesting....
Who knows? Perhaps even enlightening.
???????????
No. Yes.
Fill in the blanks.
Well, let's see.
It was very unlikely that this took place in Mexico, so that shoots that theory.
And we shall not pursue the other one. Sometimes tattling to parents can be a VERY good idea.
What? That's all I get for that crack. I'll have to try harder next time.
Do you know this thread is #1 on the Hots?
Sounds like heart attack #3 is what it sounds like.
I think I got it. But I'll leave it to him to slither out of this.
1. Isn't it AMAZING the idiotically stupid things we do as kids?
2. Isn't it AMAZING that most of us survive to become adults?
POET, HE SAID THAT! NOT ME!
We played "Let's make a fort" too. The forts were piled-up used semi truck tires. BIG.
Then a large Y-shaped tree branch was put inside. Along with a large supply of rocks. A strip of rubber cut from truck inner tubes was tied to each prong of the Y, make a sling.
Then you got inside the fort and opened fire on your friends.
Amazingly, nobody was ever killed.
True. There are those who call you a "liberal".
What, you didn't play "soldier" when you were a kid?
And I don't see the connection.
Well, look, you have to convince someone that it is noble and colorful "to be the one out there eating dog food, slogging through mud, and getting shot at so it's safe for someone else to visit Macy's perfume department".
On the internet, you could be a DOG. <ducks quickly!>
Does this mean I'm not a boy?
Impossible to say over the internet. Got proof?
Guys, why is it that most of your favorite movies are war-themed?
Because they're the good ones.
(Hey, SOMEBODY'S gotta do it. Do you want to be the one out there eating dog food, slogging through mud, and getting shoot at so it's safe for someone else to visit Macy's perfume department?)
My turn:
2001: A Space Oddyssey First good science ficton movie. Still good.
Star Wars - Pretty good science fiction movie. Also among the first good ones.
The Maltese Falcon - Good. But Bogie is most always good.
Patton - Maybe best war movie
Tora! Tora! Tora! - Good. The Pearl Harbor attack from the Japanese point of view. Or "How to lose a war on the first day."
Midway - Very good war movie. Or "In case Tora! Tora! Tora! didn't do it, how to finish the job."
Man, you're mean. Of course, if this site has the same sort of critters as some on that other one, maybe you're not.
Matt? Whatcha think?
No more thread moderator positions for me, thanks very much.
Dang! It's SO HARD to get people to volunteer for the rack!
I'm sorry for that.
Don't sweat it. I'll explain what was going on later. Someone you (and I) would least suspect apparently decided that I needed to be driven REALLY crazy.
Oh. Well, actually, there would be a few exceptions. Well, two. You and E.
Merely severe combat fatigue, my dear. You're probably unaware of the latest outbreak of insanity since it was conducted almost entirely via PMs. I'll fill you in later.
Wanna be a threadhead on SI? I've got one for sale REAL CHEAP.
Nope. I try to stay out of jails. Except for one sentence on SI for speaking the truth to some liberals who didn't want to hear it, I've been successful.
And even that was fun.
While it lasted.

Perhaps not exactly what you wanted. The three-year-olds must have someplace to throw their temper tantrums.
Oh.
Well, I forgot the after
As far as the jailees, I'm in favor of capital punishment rather than incarceration.
