There have been alot of these types of articles in the news almost weekly on school districts rolling out Chromebooks. The question is as yet undetermined is how many of these opportunities translated to sales for Sphere 3D? During the spring of last year, we were also told that sales has been extremely busy and had to prioritize.
Sphere 3D traded on the TSX-V in 2014. Yes they trade only with Canadian equities which is why BNN mentioned that they do not currently have a position, but their guests/affiliates do.
It is interesting to see how they are publicly mentioning this despite them no longer having a position.
Holy batman, take a chill pill.
His small cap fund did not do very well last year. That's about the time they got involved with Sphere 3D. I'd have to say though 2013 was a stellar year for the fund.

LOL no comment :)
Pepsi, it looks like first mover status is now in jeopardy. I was just made aware of this today.

Also Windows containers. But it looks like they are focused more on server applications.
Not sure if anyone else picked up on this, but the last news release has a few hidden gems when reading between the lines.
Since containerized applications run natively on the server-side, saving your work would mean saving it to a local drive (not best practice at all) or on a network file share. Schools that have implemented GW probably realized that is a problem when you have thousands of students working on assignments in a containerized app and that they need to save their work in progress without risk of other students deleting files or plagiarizing each other's work. Also, creating private secured folders for each student is just alot of manual (mundane) work for IT.
This is I think why Sphere 3D announced support for Google Drive integration over other storage providers (OneDrive, Box, Dropbox, iCloud, OwnCloud, etc). I expect Sphere 3D would announce support for the others as the product matures and as clients demand for them.
This news release is validation that GW is being used in a production environment with one or more clients using Google's products and services (ie. Chromebooks).

Docker adoption infographic released today.
Note: 745 responses from people in the enterprise virtualization and cloud computing space - likely already familiar with Docker and not representative of the full user base.

Hey SE, no problem. I thought the same at first but I guess Canadian companies still have to despite not being listed on a Canadian exchange.
Nothing wrong with putting in a lowball bid order. I do it all the time. If it drops, great! If not, then that's even better. Helps with taking emotion out of it as you are rooting for both price movements.
It's a Canadian company. Must still file on SEDAR. See Lululemon as an example (delisted from TSX, trades on NASDAQ).
Today is the last day to file an early warning report (ie. Has Cyprus been buying?). If there is no filing, it looks like someone else has picked up the slack and buying shares at current levels.

How did you hear about Sphere 3D if I may ask?
I agree. Next earnings is coming soon as well.
You should try to get in contact with the people on that project. If making available an installable application on a chromebook is a valid use case at your company, you might want to mention it to them. As a shareholder, we should help get Sphere 3D leads when possible.
Pete, so sorry for your loss. Please accept my deepest condolences. :(

Dang I wanted to pick up some more shares again in the 3.50 range. Bad timing for me.
end of message. eom.
Cyanogen wants to bypass Google. Microsoft invests.
Actually, here's an interesting read on one of vSphere 6's new features called "Instant Cloning"
http://blogs.vmware.com/cto/vmware-containers-containers-without-compromise/
vSphere has been around for a long time. Not related to Sphere 3D at all.
I'm not sure about the exact restrictions for insiders... Anyone with the knowledge to comment on this?
I just know that any single entity that owns more than 10% of a Canadian company needs to report increases in holdings through SEDAR. It serves as an early warning to a hostile takeover. But often the case, it's just good information to see who is buying.
I think Cyrus needs to issue an NI 62-103 Early Warning Report over at SEDAR for increasing their holdings again. I believe the rule is you must file within 10 days after the end of the calendar month. So we should see something before February 10 to see if Cyrus has increased the amount of shares they are now holding.

I am waiting for this just so I can get a local copy of GW to play with.
It depends on the volatility of the the CAD/USD exchange rate and the price at which you decide to convert CAD to USD.
Here's an example:
If you buy 1000 shares of ANY priced at $3.50 USD with a forex conversion rate at $1.259USD per $1 CAD. You would have to convert $4406.5 CAD to USD to purchase these shares.
Lets say later down the road you want to sell your shares of ANY. You sell at the same price ($3.50 USD per share). However, the forex conversion rate is now $1.40USD per $1CAD. The CAD dollar is worth less than the USD dollar. When you sell and convert immediately to CAD currency, you will now have $4900 in your account based on forex alone. You made $500 from forex but not from ANY share price volatility.
Yeah the thing is you can't buy ANY in CAD dollars anymore. You have to convert CAD to USD first. I think you got your currency conversions mixed up.
Source: I'm Canadian
If you purchased shares of ANY on the TSX-V in CAD before the merger, you are ahead just from forex alone. USD has gained 20% in value over CAD since the merger. When you sell, USD is deposited into your account. In which afterwards, you can convert USD cash to CAD at a favourable rate.
Oh come on, this is Peter's personal life that he has decided to share with his followers. Whether he goes snowboarding or yoga is his business.
Nice, if they are covering at these levels, this would clear way for blue skies. It's not the spectacular squeeze I'd prefer, but I guess we can call it a win-win with the shorts unless you are Inwentash.
To be fair, Pinetree's holdings aren't all garbage. They are just holding the wrong stocks at the wrong time. A combination of factors has led to where they are now:
1. Precious and base metal exploration companies are highly speculative, risky, and have the potential for high returns. They are also heavily influenced by the price of gold. So even with stellar drill results, if the market is down, these companies just simply don't do well. Gold juniors have declined from their 2012 peak with a flat-line performance in 2014. Personally, I am bullish on gold for 2015.
2. Being invested in oil and gas sucks right now. On the flip side, a great buying opportunity is presenting itself for this year. But not so much for funds that are holding oil companies.
Pinetree's other major technology holding is POET Technologies. I actually looked into this one as well before being invested in Sphere 3D. They have very promising IP, but I believe they are behind Sphere 3D in where they are with monetization efforts. Still on my watch list.
KEK - No thanks. I don't get this social network let alone Vine. For the teens.
Giovanni, how are ANY and BOX are disconnected? Which same brains are thinking about ANY? Please explain.
struftepete, great find! If they can help Nutanix grow quickly over a year, they can certainly help Sphere 3D do the same. Just saw @pbookman's tweet on having a blog entry about it. Certainly looking forward to his personal take on it as well.
You can make a bear or bull argument on any combination of TA indicators. Look at TradingView and view a popular index and you will see that everyone has an opinion.
I picked up another 1000 today. At about the $4 level. Will continue to accumulate over the next few days to average out.
RSI below 30. It's buying time.
If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
If Glassware can contain any application and no one knows about it, does it sell? This is why we are here in the first place right? To be in ahead of the curve? If not, pack your bags and sell your shares.
Great article. A few comments:
1. Natively windows containers + other OS containers via microvisor vs Linux only containers
2. Docker is being driven by development teams at the moment with a focus on distributed applications in the cloud or on-premise. GW is currently focused on client installable apps.
3. It is because Docker is open source; Companies are jumping on the Docker bandwagon to try to integrate it into their product line.
Both companies are focused on different areas and do not really overlap. See point 1. Sphere 3D will feed off of Docker's success.
Also, because Docker is open source, they need to do things differently to monetize.
