Someone is accumulating. I wouldn't be surprised to see some new institution and analyst attention soon
SQNS hmmm. Interesting. Big blocks going off into the close. Something must be up
SQNS. So INTC just announced that their chips are going into over 20 chromebooks launching in the back to school timeframe. It wasn't there 4g chips being announced bit their processor. My point being is we may may get details on SQNS unmanned tablet/notebook design wins soon
CEO thinks they will have a 20% market share of a 5 billion dollar market, which is a very conservative number because the analysts have not fully factored in the m2m and IOT potential
SQNS. Take the time to listen to the Baird presentation. CEO did a very nice job presenting
SQNS. They are still multi mode phones
It certainly isn't great news for QCOM but I'm not surprised. China historically has liked to use home grown companies in almost every industry. The telecom industry is no different. China pretty much launched the TD LTE standard in the world and I think they want to "own" it and won't take kindly to a big US corporation trying to take over a business they believe the own. I think SQNS is in a great position here. They have been involved in the TD LTE rollout from the very beginning. Another benefit is that SQNS chips are being used by local ODM/OEM, which on the surface makes these products appear as Made In China items. QCOM will always be part of the evil US empire. Sequans can kind of "hide" behind Chinese comapanies
I would like to see Sequans start to leverage what is has done for carriers. China Mobile with the first TD LTE demo. Verizon with LTE broadcast, another first SQNS was involved in. Time to ask for the business
SQNS. My prediction is that we will hear design wins with Netgear( probably their 1 million unit deal) Best Buy, Sony, Acer, Toshiba, (3/4 generically announced) Sierra Wireless and Novatel Wireless revealed in detail this year. I believe these are already done( except one of the tablet/notebooks) and doesn't include any new design wins that they haven't closed yet. No specific links to share. Just a lot of investigative work. We shall soon see how close I am
Right. I'm just saying BB does have its own brand , not that they make the parts
Best Buy does make their own products. The Insignia Line is their house brand. They currently have the Insignia Flex 10 tablet. Food for thought
The Amazon Kindle uses QCOM snapdragon chip. That has lte built into it. But you never know
SQNS. Add Best Buy to my list of potential "major retailers" that SQNS referenced a new design win. It is out of BB core business, but after some sleuthing, I think they may be venturing into a branded product. I have no evidence via links other than some deep digging I have done. I won't bore you with how I can up with my conclusion
I am down to Barnes and Noble and Best Buy as the Major Retailer referenced in their CC
Nice! Not many people play in the 3.5 GHz range
SQNS had a mobile device project canceled because a division was sold by its parent company. My guess is that is was Motorola Mobility. Sqns has had a long relationship with various divisions of Motorola, including some VC invested in SQNS early days. This is kind of interesting as MM was owned by Google. Lenovo purchased MM from Google. I wouldn't be surprised to see that project return
You are correct but I can only think of Amazon and BN that are major retailers selling their own branded tablets. I guess we could add Verizon if you want to call them a retailer
Who knows. I may be wrong. Maybe Best Buy starts their own tablet or notebook. I doubt they would go down that path. Maybe it is Verizon expanding their branded line of tablets/notebooks to coincide with LTE broadcast launch. Maybe it is Amazon. What are your thoughts? All I know is that landing a major retailer means big volumes. At least in context to SQNS
NOOK sales q4 2013 were running at over 50000 a week which was disappointing to BN. They plan a new line of NOOKs to launch this holiday season. Figure half of these will be Verizon enabled with SQNS chips or more likely modules. Chips at $15 or modules at $30 and you can do the math.
BN expecting NOOK to grow. The head of NOOK division is now CEO so guess where they will focus
Put whatever growth number you want on this and see the potential
You will see SQNS technology in the new Nook being introduced this upcoming holiday season. B&N is looking to upgrade its Nook lineup in order to better compete
So we have the Kurio and Nook. I wonder what chromebook it is going in
Plus Verizon is launching LTE broadcast q3. They are pushing the hardware folks to get phones and tablets that made that can accommodate this technology
We will see additional tablets with SQNS chips in them. Funny for the Super Bowl. Sqns chips where in the Verizon Ellipsis tablet. Move over Altair
I'm betting SQNS got inside the Nook. I don't believe they have an LTE model at the moment
Sqns. Funny. Nothing really changed for Sequans today other than they just picked up an Amazon Kindle or Nook design win. Hard to believe that is worth a 20% haircut
What other Major Retailer can you think of that has a tablet?
I listened to bits and pieces of the CC. Nook or Kindle here we come
SQNS. Ugly now but they landed a tablet with what they called a major retailer in the US. Hmmm amazon? Barnes and noble??? They did lose a tablet due to a company being sold
Agreed. And I don't think their selling point on the wimax only chips is as high as their LTE selling point
One thing I forgot about on the revenue side for the next Q is that the modules sell for about 30% more than the chips alone. This should help their topline but will have very little impact in their bottom line
Sqns. I added 2k here. Thanks!!
I personally don't think that there will be a huge upside surprise and I don't think an additional 300 k really makes a difference this Q. My guess is for 8-9 million for q2 based on announced design wins and turning profitable in Q4
All I know is I want to be in this before it opens tomorrow
Sqns. Funny. The small investors worry about holding a company like SQNS through earning, which we know will be nothing to write home about, while missing the real story which will be their forward guidance and design win disclosures. I'm not sure what bad news people can possibly be announced on CC.
Looks like SQNS is waiting until tomorrow to announce new design wins. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the start of the M2M conference
SQNS. Agreed. They should announce several designs wins although I don't expect a lot of detail. One tier 1 win and this will fly
Sqns. If history is any indication we should start hearing from SQNS tomorrow as they get announcement out in front of earnings and the M2M conference. Europe was shut down today
So AMD is an example of a big risk free stock?????
Marketcrash. Good luck finding Dow stocks that move 2-4% 5 times a day every trading day of the year. Your math works. Your sense of reality doesn't
Abc. People can sell where they like. Your $5 target is easily attainable and I wouldn't blame you for taking the double. I just love the folks that buy at 2.08 sell at 2.16 and think they are a genius. IMO this isn't one you play for a few percentage point gains. Folks can if they want but I think they will miss out on big gains.
SQNS. With good guidance this thing will double overnight. I wouldn't put a stop loss in. If you want to play this one for 10% that is fine, but you will miss the real gains
Here is what we have to look forward to
Motorola shipping public safety radio. They will ship early q3 which means they have to build now
Kurio tablet. Shipping summer, means they need to build now
China telecom. Won 2 devices. Devices being built now
M2M new announcements. I expect to hear they have closed a handful more deals
New Carriers. SoftBank and AT&T. I wouldn't be surprised to new SQNS approved on these carriers this week
I also think SQNS has added enough new deals to turn profitable in Q4
I believe they will announce that during CC
I am holding
It won't be a contract for just the Airtech. It will that their chips get certified on the SoftBank network and will have an advantage over competitive chips because of less interference issues. This will lead OEM and ODM to use SQNS chips. SoftBank doesn't manufacture the devices and phones used on their network
Airtech is in all of their Streamrich chips already. It isn't a separate thing
SQNS. I expect them to start releasing news on new design wins early next week before earnings
I think we will hear some exciting news
SQNS adding those events to their schedule pretty well telegraphs that things are going well for them in the IoT and M2M space. Take a look at Altair Semi, who pretty much does the same thing as Sequans. They are only exhibiting at the Super Mobility conference
I have a feeling that SQNS is about to make a major move up
SQNS take a look at their website under events. Wow. 6 events coming up plus two investor conferences. If you follow the links where Craig Miller is speaking it is interesting. For the first time I can can remember and I have followed this company since they IPOed, Sequans is listed as a sponsor. One at the silver level and one at the bronze level. Things must be heating up for them as they are starting to spend money on sponsoring conferences. It is going to be an interesting sotmg and summer
Motorola also said that customer could upgrade their current model( 7000 I believe) to LTE without having to buy a whole new phone that will be a SQNS chip that goes in there
Well Motorola said the remaining public safety market had 6.2 billion in revenue in 2013
