A difficult question to answer, I remember the story about a Chinese company what has reacted to shorting in a surprise way, however I never have found out the result on the end.

Years ago there was a company called Harbin Electric who was victim of shorts, especially naked short. The shorts drove the PPS down from 16 to 6$ in one day. A couple of day’s later Harbin announced to going private and offered ........ 24$/share. And thy have done it.

I know that there were a lot of shareholders who had to wait for their money to be paid out as their brokers had to sort out who was owning what. Again I admit that I never found out the final outcome, all what I know, it was a nightmare for shareholders and I can image their trusted brokers.

All costs included I have a average of 3.625$, this gives me roughly one SPIHF at 7.25$ instead of 8.5$. Perhaps older, but the brain is still there and sometimes converted in a calculator.
