Expenditures have increased, but I am seeing this as a positive. The rev growth is good. They are spending money on new technologies while still working to keep earnings. They are not pulling an Amazon by spending everything they have and also not trying to do everything like Google. They have some seriously interesting stubs for possible interesting growth paths and I would really like for them to provide strong direction.
I really like what FB is doing here and expect a lot out of them in 2015. I would really like to hear some pretty fantastic initiatives over the next 3 months on what they plan on doing with oculus and some of the other areas where they have been dabbling.
Remember they bought a drone company? I had been thinking that they might try to jump into the cell provider service when combined with crap like snapchat. I think maybe also they could form some interesting partnerships with companies that would have an interest in getting a competitive advantage on Google in the phone/browser/search/video department.
For right now, I am super bullish, but if this quarter goes by without some really interesting news, that bullishness might start to wane.
Congrats to everybody who has hung on the past few days... I sold late last week after what seemed like a huge bump. How can this possibly continue!?
I like it... But I don't understand. Up 7%on nothing?
Lol.... this board. I am being asked to explain a rev increase when all I did was point out something I noticed about the pps. Last year, if/when I said something similar, there was a similar you asking about how I explain x AMAZING statistic or Y state of the company. I cannot explain x or y facts any better. Yay for facts. I bought this time based on a presumption that the pps would spike in the first quarter with the intent to sell based on a presumption that it would drop after. As of right now... whether my guess about the second half of that happens or not... I am happy I am out at this moment.
For the two (maybe 3?) years prior they have had significant events that triggered significant price increases in the jan-march range. Then, in every case... it fell and fell to about the same level or lower. My population is that is when they harvest money from us. Maybe i am wrong and maybe this year is different. If anything, this has beem an interesting thing to watch.
Ahhh yes.. because they have a track record of following through on prs. Im glad I am out and the spike I predicted for feb/March came late, but the history is that it will sink back down to the same or further.
Hey all! hope the world is treating you well. things are treating me well and I have been one busy guy. Saw the spike here, it hit what I wanted to when I rebought in Feb... and I.... AM......EFFIN OUT!!!!!!!!!
yay.
FB
Getting close to this for me
Boy... the market did not like the oculus deal. Whats another two billy anyways... lol. Had this been done without the Whatsapp stuff, I would be more positive about it, as I do think they need to move in some of these directions. All this buying is worrisome.
MSLP
I have no clue what video to really post for them, but this felt right... I just hope they report some good news. As for the "Financial Disclosure Committee", I will just file that away in the same folder as the Ethics Committee disclosure from a while back.... right next to the buy back disclosure and the uplist disclosure.
Remember that they also purchased a drone wifi company . That's where I think it could become really interesting
Seeking Alpha is basically a blog platform that anybody can write fore. You will get a wide spectrum of "articles" (I say that loosely... more like blog posts) that say anything on SA.
One thing I can say is that the general social media buzz around this seems to be pretty negative. I have seen LOT'S of "There goes Oculus" sort of comments. I have also seen quite a bit of animosity to Oculus on the idea that they asked for "underground" help by joining a kickstarter and then became to largest kickstarter fundraiser ever. Then, after they have raised pooptons of money, they sell out to what many consider "the big guy." I think it is pretty spectacular... a group basically starts with no money. The public funds them to get all the leg work done. Then they sell it for 2 Billion dollars WITHOUT having an actual product that currently is for sale. <slow clap> bravo guys!
I guess I can sort of see Zuck's vision with this product, but there is a good chance it won't take off, thus making it a 2 billion dollar oopsie. Other than the price I am more excited about Whatsapp and the prospect of them disrupting telecom. Big price, but huge game changer possibility.
1% substance. 0% profit. Musclepharm.
They must have a line with the Monopoly Money Printing Co.
One day left and I am jumping into the unknown... I am done at work. Hopefully that doesn't end up being a loser. lol.
Good for you! That is awesome.
I agree... LNKD is used by professionals everywhere and they do have a great pay model that many people(myself included) use. I am just saying that I am using them as the upper boundary of what is possible from a p/e perspective... that is a pretty insane ratio.
An advertising bubble? Perhaps. I haven't checked in a while now, but last time I looked, FB advertise was far less expensive than Google Ad Words... and more easily targeted. You will absolutely find people that don't agree with me, but I am going from what I have used it for. I can target very specific people and have seen results from that and it would have cost me MUCH more to see the same in Google. So, even if there is a burst bubble, my thought is that users would run to where they get the most value and I would argue that would be FB or now the FB advertising network that is being formed.
I use Google as well as Apple in comparison because they both dramatically changed how people use the internet. Apple is more of a hardware company, but the ecosphere they have created around their products is where I see a comparison. Similarly, with Google, the suite of Google products and the ecosphere of that is where I think they are revolutionary beyond the flagship search. I think FB has an opportunity to create it's own ecosphere and it is just a matter of making a shift to disrupt and taking a chance.
Another interesting thing (and sort of off topic) is how engagement and social media is now impacting healthcare. I was talking to a fella last week about the health care industry and he was telling me that under some of the rule changes that are coming up, reimbursement levels are going to be tied to engagement. So, reimbursement levels may be partially determined by social media engagement. That doesn't only help FB, but interesting anyways. Also, I have not corroborated that, but just found it an interesting conversation that adds to the social media case in general.
Anyhow, I like LNKD too, but for me - I would not buy it today. I like Netflix too, but wouldn't buy it today. Then again, I said similar things about GOOG and AAPL on the way up... lol.
60 on the down side is where I just decided that I might have better luck elsewhere.
I am loosly basing this on the historical trends of AAPL and GOOG. First, I understand that it is trading expensively... more expensively than apple and google, but not even remotely as expensively as Linked in. I would use Linked in with a pe of over 800 as the extreme upper limit of what FB could do and consider Linked in one of the only pure social plays that can compare to FB at this moment in time, but I think Linked in is too expensive.
I thought FB was expensive and that is why I sold on the last earnings. I started to look at the histories of Google and Apple.... each of these trekked up to a P/E of 150 before that number started trending down. I repurchased. I think FB is not necessarily the next Apple or Google, but it does have some similarities and that is where I get the 99 number from as well as some potential to be a major disruptor. With current earnings, a p/e of 150 will place it at about 99.
My thoughts are that FB has a decent chance of hitting that with what they have right now... but I do think there is some pie in the sky stuff that they are making a move on that could establish FB as a Google or a Apple. Thus far, FB hasn't really been an innovation company like Apple and Google, but I see the Whatsapp purchase (big price I know) along with purchase of the drones as a sneak peak into a potential major play outside of the pure social network realm. I don't know where this will exactly go, but it seems like it could be a world telecom play.
Over the next few quarters I believe they are going to continue increasing revenue, increasing the motorization of the current ad network, expanding the ad network and increasing it's user base. Just last week (or two ) they struck a new 100M deal with advertising on Instagram. A significant portion of the worlds population is now using a FB application. There might even be a miss on wall street's predictions, but barring any tech bubble being popped, I see this is doing well in the short to medium term.
TL;DR I think this has a chance of trending like Apple and Google. I think there are some possible runs at other verticals that could establish them even further.
Down 6.5% in the past week so great return there on a FB short... just a smidge up on 30 day and up 23% on 90. TWTR has been marginalized since last Q.
My next exit point on FB will be either be 60 or 99.
And I will never understand the person that holds a given stock only to come on to the respective message board to pat themselves on the back and hold hands to sing Kum Ba Ya for making such a good decision. Good job guys... way to go! Lose 99% share price since MSLP inception - Wow... go for the gold, fellas.
I do think someone on this board has the insider answers. I also know that some of them have answered our questions before. I also have talked to a key player directly because of this board. I also know that they at least pay minor attention to this board and that this board has revealed DD that the company did not expect and we also improved how they did business because of flaws with the website. Pretty sure I still somewhere have the customer order list that was publicly exposed a long while ago. I would not be surprised if the SEC investigation is not due to some of the very things that have been discussed here.
My hopes are that you are right and this is awesome. I come here to hear and participate in the discussion. If this was just a board about the awesomeness of MSLP, it would be of no value and only a circlejerk.
It doesn't look like it has been April 15 for any of the past 3 years? It does look like it is in early April though. I would expect an announcement shortly.
New Musclepharm Investor supplement "The D" - They will have to rebrand the color though from green to red.
Man... we are getting to a point where even a 100% spike really just brings us back to where we were just a while ago. I still have my price point and I am hoping it hits that before Codie's discussion becomes public reality.
I have a real tough time seeing any "Long Term Value" here with how this is going right now. There ARE some real positives with this company and we have seen huge growth, but that growth can come crashing down just as easy if the foundation sucks. They sure are not doing a good job of letting investors know about the state of the foundation.
When is reporting due? It HAS to be soon... or are we going to get the MSLPD again? Or perhaps we have been getting the D the whole time?
So far... this company consistently is about beating expectations.
I wonder if he is also going to be monitoring study halls during the day so he can get that FTE status?
They could just market themselves out of business. I am not going to deny that it seems they have done very well on the marketing front and Musclepharm is a 100% legit brand, but at some point they need to capitalize on it.
I think the worry is that they have the spending money on marketing down pat, but are they capable of making the marketing profitable?
It's like Oprah with Green Lambos for everybody! Green lambo for you and you get a green lambo EVERYBODY GETS A GREEN LAMBO.
All imo.
I don't think it is JUST the internet.... telecomm. I think they are moving to change world wide how phones/texting/data happen. Perhaps not phones themselves, but I wouldn't rule that out either. They are knocking on Google chat/hangout's doorstep with this play imo. And while Google probably has the biggest headway in that market right now, they don't have the g+ user network like FB does. FB has a huge strategic advantage with the social networks that exist.
Either way, I think they are setting themselves up to make Google or Apple real nervous on the services side of things. Perhaps it will flop, but I think Zuck is setting up a very nice chess move.
Well now I feel that way. whats the haps on the craps? What's the skinny on how we are going to lose it all?
Nice Rocky reference.
"I have never gotten past new online currency playing on currency fears "
lol.... I agree. I figure I have enough ways to lose my money already!
The Winklevoss twins. lol. They are great. There entire claim to fame is being on the outskirts of greatness. Who knows, they might be in the "buy more" camp, which I would guess could be a valid argument.
Perhaps this presentation was unexpected, but that this was a possibility should not have been a surprise to anybody. Bitcoin has lost huge percentages of value overnight because of silly things like DDoS attacks in the past year. There are tons of articles in the mainstream media and prominent tech moguls that flat out call bitcoin a pyramid scheme. I listen to This Week in Tech and Leo Laporte actually has mentioned it quite a bit(although he has had plenty of proponents on his show and I think they actively mine for coins as well as accept donations in BitCoin).
That being said... you will never hit a 100 bagger by doing what everybody else says, so good on Turokman for going into it knowing the risk and making a calculating play with a small chunk.
Sure. I think it is just an editor trying to fill some space.
It is up for me... looks full of spam though.
From a share perspective, what do you think the exit strategy would be from the execs? I have a tough time thinking they would close up shop without thinking they would try to push this up to pull money out.
JMHO
Am I correct that anything material said during the Arnold would need to be disclosed today or tomorrow?
Speaking of the WSJ... anybody have a hardcopy?
Is this article in it?
http://online.wsj.com/article/PR-CO-20140227-909231.html
I like how you think.
Fair point.
Win, lose or draw on FB... I am super excited to see what they are going to do next. Some interesting stuff going and I see whatsapp as a subtle entry point(well, as subtle as 19 billion can go) into a big play.
I really wonder how Google and MS are taking this and if they are seeing it as an aggressive move. It could be seen as a challenge to Skype or Google Talk/Hangouts.
FB might have had a real tough time making ANY big move without stepping on somebody who they need.
You are identifying a pattern.
The pattern I have seen every year is that it drifts lower this time of year ... like it is now. and then it spikes. bonuses are given and blah blah blah and then it spends the rest of the year churning in mediocrity.
That is the pattern I see.
Maybe they are on the verge of something great, but I think it is just as likely that they are in another cycle of raising money just to bleed investors dry.
That is not exactly true.
Whatsapp has 450,000,000 users and all users after the first year pay a dollar a year. Even if half pay it is still 250,000,000 per year - blowing mslp rev out of the water. They have like 50 employees and the only other cost really is infrastructure, which is really pretty minimal.
I am not sure I agree with the 19 Billion dollar valuation (particularly with the comments about non-advertising), but I do see some things of value:
1. Facebook could be making a worldwide telecom move.
2. Even if they don't advertise (which I am guessing they eventually will), I can guarantee they are going to make people sign in to FB to get to Whatsapp which has some internet wide implications not only to FB but any site where people can login with FB.
3. They are growing at a million users per day.
In terms of valuation - what does MSLP actually own? Anything? Do they own buildings? Do they own equipment? Perhaps they just started acquiring that, but that really doesn't even seem all that clear to me with the recent acquisition. As far as I can tell, they own some hot tubs, some leased spaces and a perishable product that is at the whim of user popularity - very similar to Whatsapp in that respect. Just MSLP has to pay lots more to keep running.
I think we can all agree that they have been genius in terms of brand and recognition. That being said...
Consistently making less in revenue than they spend is not really all that special, is it? If I give 200 million dollars with an established brand to someone, I don't necessarily think it would be all that special to generate 100 million in rev.
I would say that the more difficult and amazing aspect of what they have done from a financial standpoint is consistently raising the money and convincing people that they are going to get it back.
