Found this on a search of Dicon. This was dated from 2008
Sean Register said of the new jobs.
Gov. Sonny Perdue and the development authority announced Dicon's plans June 19.
"We've gotten a lot of positive feedback," Register said of the announcement. "It's a great thing for our county."
The company, a medical component manufacturer and supplier to U.S. troops, will invest approximately $3.7 million.
The facility is expected to be open by the end of this year.
Dicon develops, manufactures and distributes products for advanced wound care, skin care, diabetic foot care and agricultural markets. They produce cosmetic wedges and applicators as well as auto and pet sponges, all of which can be found locally.
Dicon currently manufactures all of its products in China.
Register said many of the company's products will be manufactured at its new site in Bryan County, and a large amount of space will be dedicated to medical component manufacturing.
"We're already moving dirt out there as we speak, because time is of the essence," said Register. "We're on a fast track, and they're hoping to be in their building by December."
The facility will sit on 6.4 acres across from Oneida.
Sam Ginsberg, chairman of Dicon Technologies, said the company's lease will be up in one year in Allendale, N.J., after which they will consider moving the headquarters to Bryan County.
Ginsberg said the company looked at a number of locations in Georgia and South Carolina for a few months before settling on Bryan County. "They basically wanted to work with somebody who could put the deal together in a very expeditious manner," Register said of the development authority's dealing with Dicon. "And we've got a can-do board here. We can make a decision, we stick behind it, and we love it when a plan comes together."
Ginsberg explained why they chose Bryan County: "We thought the work force was going to be very good down there. It's also a good place to live."
In a press release, Ginsberg also noted that the ease of exporting because of the park's proximity to the Georgia Ports and to Dow Chemical, which is a strategic partner of Dicon, gives the company "great confidence that Georgia is the right location to make the technology-driven, advanced products the health industry demands."
From a biotechnology convention in San Diego, Perdue said, "Dicon will find that Georgia workers have the kinds of skills and commitment to the job that helps companies grow and thrive."
Ginsberg said Dicon is working with both the Georgia Quick Start program and the Georgia Department of Labor to find employees for their new facility. Dicon will do a temporary small production at Herty Advanced Materials Development Center starting in the middle of July.
The plan, he said, is to hire a small core group of people to train now, and then they can help train new employees once the facility opens in north Bryan County.
"A lot of children, after they're educated, they want to stay here and work," Register said. "And we need these additional jobs."
Ginsberg said the goal with the new facility is to eventually bring as much of the production back to the U.S. as possible.
His reasons included the exchange rate, because he said it's becoming more profitable for manufacturers to bring everything back home to the U.S. He also likes the idea that the company can "control our own destiny" with production in the United States.
Development authority member Derrick Smith sees the announcement as a boon for the county.
"It's pretty significant that they're bringing jobs from China back to America," Smith said. "It's just, everything seems to be going the other way. It's really phenomenal that they're bringing something back here to our backyard."
PEMBROKE - Representatives from Dicon Technologies LLC will arrive in Georgia this week to meet with representatives from the Georgia Department of Labor, and start the hiring process for the new jobs the company is bringing to the county.
Dicon will construct a new facility at the Interstate Centre Park just outside Pembroke, creating 88 new jobs immediately and more within five years.
"The ball will start rolling from this week forward," Development Authority of Bryan County chairman Sean Register said of the new jobs.
