My only problem with QASP
is how many more shares will they put out there to close 2 of these deals we don,t know as of yet, and i,m hoping these deals close on time and i believe they will
you must be stockroxx that,s what he was always saying for past year or so
Some more news maybe coming our way with alittle promo hopefully we could break .10 and stick
hey guys i,m all with you and have bought alot of shares in the past 2 weeks or so and may by more.
I believe the fundamentals are in place here, but i,m sure we,ve all seen other pie in the sky stocks and nothing happen.
As i said i just hope there are no delays and that the details in the 2 acqusitions that are options become public and how the company intends to pay for them.
I,m hoping for the best here
hey guys easy on the excitement, all things look good but lets hope the company executes as they say, were at .03 because nothing is final hopefully the ink dries , til than its all a gamble and hoping for the best
Going OVer a $1.00
I think MDOR is on the verge of going over a $1.00 for good, the financials will be out and don,t expect anything there
The only setback i can see is if there are dealys in these deals closing , and if 1 deal does not close.
2 of the deals look secured 2 are options and QASP has paid up front money, but you never know there is always delays , lawyers etc
it would not take much for this to move up.
But the company appears to not want to.
If they just acquired Air star , you would have figured right after acqusition they would of come out with a detailed report on what Air Star has done in the past and the plans going forward!
From what i understand or believe all these acqusitions, they are already working together or have dealings with one another, so that is aprt in parcel why the deal is being done
This speaks real loud about the potential and the commitment from 1 of the acqustions
Quasar Aerospace Industries, Inc. is pleased to announce the signing of an agreement to acquire a third aviation/aerospace company. The full Board of Directors of the company to be acquired unanimously approved recommending to the shareholders that they accept the offer of One Dollar per share for the 32,000,000 shares outstanding. The members of the Board hold over 80% of the outstanding stock so shareholder approval is certain to be obtained.
I was just looking at the worse case scenario and i hope these deals are done as per the NR,s 2 deals are basically paid for already
Another delay that always occurs is the lawyers going back and forth, as long as these deals closes i,ll be happy
The only set back i can see is if these deals get delayed , anybody get any feedback on where they stand a couple of these deals appear to be already paid for, which is a good sign
Should see a staedy climb starting next week
could not agree more lets get some news on Air Star out, sooner rather than later
the company is happy with the way the stock is trading and does not want to put out news that may spike stock so i can,t see anything happening short term , hope i,m wrong
What Happens
When all 4 acqusitions are under their belt , web site up and running and they start to promote stock, and start buy back program, and give details of acqusitions???

The company's original intentions were to have the ticker symbol change earlier in the year to reflect the name change of the company. There have been delays in executing this due to new FINRA restrictions and requirements. The transaction documents, board minutes, shareholder votes, etc. all need to be organized and reviewed for the company's entire history. For the items missing, these need to be reconstructed. The company and its legal representation are just about wrapped up with this. Of which will be resubmitted to FINRA so they can execute the ticker symbol change for the company. Furthermore, the company wanted to reiterate the fact that there will be no reverse split to go along with the ticker symbol change.
Stratton Investment Group LLC:
Thanks to a loan from the Company's CEO and Chairman, Stratton Investment Group LLC has begun operations and currently has a majority of its initial capital invested in the following companies,
Wells Fargo & Co
Thanks brikk
Some deep pockets must be involved in QASP
Look at the terms of acqusition 3
QASP Paid $1.00 a share for comapny and 32 million shares outstanding, put that into the current value of QASP?
well acqusition 2 and 3 are accounted for as to how they are paying for them , i don,t see details on 1 and 4 payments did they issue more shares?
would it not make sense for the comapny to do part of the buy back at these levels if they can as the higher the price the more it will cost the comapny
igot in yesterday first thing and added first thing today again, was going to get Friday under .03 but hesitated .
It would be great if we base in the .05 to .55 range for a day or 2 than we would have a base for a real good move into the teens hopefully

Magnum Updates Magnum/SRI, Discloses Substantial Events in Near Term, Hires Additional Plant Supervisor, Releases New Video
Magnum/SRI Next Generation Rubber Recycling Solutions to Make History
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Magnum D'Or Resources, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: MDOR - News), a next generation rubber recycling solutions company, announced the addition of Carl Sabilo, as corporate Facility Director of Magnum Recycling USA. Magnum also releases new video of specific rubber nuggets being produced to fulfill open orders. Company notes that the demand for all their products is backlogged.
Magnum is pleased with the recent accomplishments and events that have taken place during the second quarter of 2009. The company has significant news announcements that will be forthcoming and is very excited to be positioned to update the market with upcoming Magnum/SRI Next Generation Rubber Recycling Solutions. We anticipate having solutions to the ever increasing volume of the billions of tires being illegally dumped and abandoned worldwide.
Magnum’s executive project Director, Larry Hogan recently hired Carl Sobilo to act in the capacity of Corporate Facility Director. He will serve under Mr. Hogan as a Division Supervisor, with his focus on US operations and start-up. Currently Mr. Sabilo is assisting the operations staff in Magog in fine tuning current equipment.
Carl is a seasoned veteran of over 25 years in civil engineering and heavy equipment material handling. His expertise will be utilized to ensure optimum performance of equipment and plant production during Magnum’s accelerated expansion activities.
President and CEO, Joseph Glusic stated, “the addition of Mr. Sabilo to our company is further validation of Magnum’s goal of becoming one of the foremost companies in our sector. Mr. Sabilo brings with him substantial experience across a wide range of industries the further our position in the world manufacturing arena. We welcome him to our family and have extremely high expectations of his abilities and performance.
MAGNUM/SRI UPDATE: Magnum/SRI is looking forward to updating the market with regard to its History making Next Generation, Custom Rubber Compounds. The process takes scrap rubber tires from the growing tire mountains around the country and converts it into a viable performing raw material able to provide value addition to various applications.
The scrapped tires are first processed in to fine rubber powder with fiber and metal separated out allowing for a very high level of purity. This powder is put through our activation process and then compounded before being treated with our proprietary high performance processing aids. The resultant material which has been compounded or formulated to be compatible with specific categories of our customer's virgin compounds can now be blended in their manufacturing process without appreciable loss of properties. The significance of using this blended composite compound is that in a very competitive environment of rising raw material and processing costs is that it allows for a savings in raw material costs of between 4-11% without compromising their product quality (basically unheard of in the rubber industry).
Being able to do this commercially in the near term will lead to enormous demand on a global scale. Our new Magnum SRI custom compound component, coming from recycled and compounded scrap rubber is added to manufacturer's virgin in proportions ranging from 5% to 20% (will be a breakthrough and history in the making) subject to application specifications and the resultant blend is as good as the original. No change in essential parameters, including abrasion. This will serve to propel our efforts in moving compounds in the retread sector and will get the process of validation end evaluation by OEM tire manufacturers started. This would
be history in the making.
If we succeed in incorporating the Magnum SRI compound in such substantial proportions this would be the first time that this has ever been done effectively making history in terms of what is technologically possible.
New Production line for Custom Recycled Rubber Nuggets View:
MDOR Holding up well
i think its ready for another move prior to September, the financials will be out soon and there will be nothing there so don,t expect anything hopefully no skeletons
Heres hoping they have executed on what they said and bring on FOC/CNN series
We need to hear about contratcs being signed and a series of these contracts and than we could move into the .20 range

Magnum/SRI Update: Reveals Breakthrough Technology and Plans to Make History With Revolutionary Custom Compounds & Reactivated Recycled Rubber Magnum
Thu Aug 6, 6:30 AM
Email StoryIM StoryPrintable View.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Magnum D'Or Resources, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: MDOR.OB), a next generation rubber recycling solutions company releases new information on breakthrough technology.
CEO of SRI, Gopi Sekhar, commented, "Magnum/SRI development work has covered a relatively wide area of activity which we have endeavored to narrow down to address short and mid-term operational priorities with specific reference to the Magnum Magog facility output. Assuming a starting point ranging from 40 mesh crumb through to cryogenic rubber powder (up to 200 mesh) our work has covered custom compounds in value added applications through to introduction into TPE's."
In terms of custom compounds, the ultimate goal is to have it successfully introduced into OEM tires of every kind. This would ensure substantial and wide ranging value added consumption; thus, guaranteeing viability and success of the project. However, it should be noted that in technically challenging compound applications, such as OEM tires, the proportion of recycled content has historically been limited to a very small proportion. Usually the amount of surface treated tire crumb utilized in these applications is limited to the 2% to 3% range. Any lager amount tends to lead to very serious and unacceptable consequences in terms of performance parameters and even catastrophic failure. Since people's lives are dependent upon performance parameters in this category they are not taken lightly.
CEO of Magnum, Joseph Glusic stated, "Even in the case of Retread compounds the level of recycled content and usage of processing aids is limited. This translates directly to the quality and performance of the retread. In developing markets the reclaim rubber content can be excessive with the tire dust diluting the performance threshold to the wire. In developed markets; however, performance parameters make manufacturers limit such activity. Various alternative materials ranging from new high performance compounded reclaim rubbers, cryogenic and other devulcanized material continue to be developed and tested with varying degrees of success. Problems and challenges ranging from depressed and inconsistent properties to storage hardening generally occur. Also, throughput limitations and processing problems of one form or another have made increasing the addition of substitute virgin material quite a challenge."
CEO of SRI, Gopi Sekhar, also commented, "Our challenge was to come up with a composite compound that could be produced cost effectively at the highest level of throughput of a large capacity 40 mesh crumb plant or full range cryogenic crumb plant at maximum production. The compound or range of compounds needed to be targeted at specific market segments with attractive levels of value addition and mid to high end performance parameters. Our material needed to be robust enough to handle the vagaries of production plant process conditions, have the ability to manifest consistent properties in each compound category and maintain these properties within reasonable shipping, storage and process durations. A tall order and one that becomes even more challenging once you look beyond general rubber goods and mid-range retread compounds to OEM tires. If we succeed in incorporating the Magnum SRI compound in such substantial proportions this would be the first time that this has ever been done effectively making history in terms of what is technologically possible."
CEO of Magnum, Joseph Glusic, further stated, "It should be noted that regardless of whatever claims that are made, tire manufacturers will generally evaluate materials confidentially and test it over a period of time and under all manner of conditions to ensure that manufacturer's liability issues are adequately addressed before making tangible decisions. To date we are not aware of any material, process, or technology that has been able to successfully break into this category which covers automotive to heavy truck tires. Any successful inroad would be of enormous commercial significance (once the due diligence evaluation of the manufacturers has been completed) due to the sheer volume of potential application which would become realistically available. Today the only area that allows any kind of volume would be low end fillers for low specification products such as mats, flooring material, etc. These markets are saturated with manufacturers which are highly competitive and generate very low margins."
CEO of SRI, Gopi Sekhar, finished by saying, "For our purposes we have targeted light truck tires as an entry point that will afford us the best opportunity to be accepted both technically and commercially. For quite some time now we have been working on several versions of customizable compound produced from Magnum's Magog crumb and surface treated cryogenic powder. We have made process durability and final performance parameters as our main priority without losing sight of other specifications that will need to be addressed eventually. Our expectation is that success in producing a light truck tire with a substantial Magnum SRI custom compound component (ranging from 5% to 20%) with no change in essential parameters, including abrasion and other similar parameters, will serve to propel our efforts in moving compounds in the retread sector and will get the process of validation end evaluation by OEM tire manufacturers started. This would be an instant breakthrough in the Global Rubber Industry making history. The effect on the Magnum/SRI bottom line will of course be in the most favorable terms while substantially boosting industry credibility."

OPPORTUNITY SNAPSHOT
Crime, deteriorating infrastructure, and natural disasters are all significant problems in and of themselves. Combined at the same time with the dramatic increase in climate change, industrialization, pollution, and terrorism as they are now, these issues create an extremely difficult situation on a global scale.
Pressure on the world’s infrastructure is intensifying from changes in demographics alone. Over the past 20 years the world’s population has increased nearly 34% to 6.7 billion, and it is expected to reach 7.2 billion by 2015. The migration of people to urban areas is occurring at an unsustainable rate. Meeting this global crisis will involve massive expenditure across several industries; and the companies that will benefit from the tremendous flow of capital will be the ones that offer the most cost-effective solutions.
The Mundus Group, Inc. (MNDP) is a publicly-listed, advanced aerospace and technology company that is providing the best solutions to many of the world’s most serious issues. Incorporated in 1992, and head quartered in Nevada, MNDP is spearheading a new industry in the surveillance and unmanned aerial vehicles industry. Through its wholly owned subsidiaries Airstar International (ASI) and Roadable Aircraft Inc. (RAI), MNDP has been providing patented Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) and Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAV) technology for commercial and military use, since 1980.
MNDP is at the cutting edge of jet turbine-ducted fan technology and fuses state of the art design engineering and prototype facilities with computer assisted autonomous flight technologies, remote control, HD video wireless linkage and advance optics. From U.S. Navy co-developed UAVs for aerial observation and environmental testing to advanced VTOL aerospace technology for multiple end uses, MNDP is currently providing and developing revolutionary products with global potential for change that offer economic protection and growth opportunities for investors.
Besides ASI and RAI, MNDP currently operates under four other wholly owned divisions. Air Intel Systems (AIS) is a dedicated aerial surveillance business with sales of UAV surveillance systems which provide turnkey solutions to military and government agencies around the world. AirStar Sky Productions will continue ASI’s dedicated movie production and cinematography business in Hollywood, California. AirStar UAV 4 Life Search & Rescue will provide search and rescue services and sales for government agencies. AirStar Weather Systems will provide sales and service of dedicated early warning weather technology to the federal and state meteorological observation agencies. This is particularly applicable to Gulf Coast states concerned about hurricanes, and tornado prone states like Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma. ASI’s CamCopter and VariScope technology has been keeping watch over the world since 1988 through its civilian VTOL division.
In addition, Air Drone Inc. (ADI) (www.airdroneinc.com), will become an advanced UAV manufacturer and a leader in VTOL technology, used to replace all current AirStars in service and provide the ducted fan technology under development. ADI was formed to continue the development that ASI began in 1988 with the design and manufacturing of advanced remote controlled UAV helicopters for the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and Northrop Grumman; and has since continued with the University of Southern California, among many others.

2003 UAV VTOL Terminator (above right) was originally proposed for deployment from Trident missile silos. RAI and ASI were the only private companies ever to have an operational presence at the U.S. Navy’s secret high tech systems testing range and Naval version of “Skunk Works”.
Successful Independent Performance Evaluation & Validation
•In 2003, ASI entered into a relationship with RAI to build a secret UAV at the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division. Pictured above is the ASI/RAI co- developed, built and flight tested UAV. This UAV was ADI’s first prototype and was completed while engaged in a three year Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) between 2001 and 2004, with the U.S.
•NAVY at Point Mugu Naval Air base, in California. The project ultimately culminated in a U.S. Patent for RAI’s VTOL vehicle using 16 counter-rotating propellers within a ducted fan enclosure.
•The UAV developed in 2004 became the test bed for DARPA submissions and proposals for RAI’s “Terminator” Orchestrated Remote Controlled Assault/Surveillance Systems (ORCAS); and its robotic surgeon know as Medical Emergency Deployment Aerial Vehicle (MEDAV).
REVENUE DRIVERS
Surveillance
With advanced infrared optics and surveillance, police, border patrol, and/or port authorities can observe, automatically monitor and track individuals and/or moving vehicles while sending pin-point accurate GPS coordinates and real time high definition video images to enforcement agencies without leaving their desks.
No other aerospace UAV company in the world has a higher profile in cutting edge real world surveillance applications. Providing stealth operation from sea level to 7,500 feet altitude while running on ethanol with zero emissions, ADI’s UAV’s run for two to six hours of autonomous flight and vehicle tracking, automatically returning to base with preprogrammed instructions for refuelling before resuming aerial observation and surveillance duty or other instructions.
ADI’s civilian UAVs and VTOL technology products encompass a wide array of applications and fields of use. ASI has pioneered aerial surveillance with government agencies in Brazil, Japan, and the U.S. For applications from ecosphere and environmental protection to surveillance over Brazilian tourist attractions and Japan’s downtown intersections. ASI delivered 12 VTOL UAVs to Gulf State (Louisiana, Texas) government agencies for as early warning and hurricane observation systems. These can also be used as post disaster monitoring for safe infrastructure, looting and emergency response to victims.
ADI builds the world’s most high tech, high performance UAVs and educates and trains operators to become flight control experts to maintain, operate and execute specific tasks and demonstrate remote controlled performance ranging from simple aerial photography to extreme aerial acrobatics. Only those with the requisite skills may be able to enter contract as a team AIS services operator.
Emergency Response, Search & Rescue
As traffic conditions worsen on the ground or when rescue helicopters and aircraft are grounded due to heavy fog or smoke from wild fires or from other dangerous flying conditions, remote controlled GPS UAVs are called in to continue search and rescue missions. VTOL technology will save lives with many civilian applications including protection of city skyscrapers, medical response and evacuation. A remotely operated unmanned vehicle can also augment fire fighting capabilities by delivering or directing fire suppressants.
• Air ambulance
• Beach & coastal rescue
• Hazardous material sampling
• Hurricane/tornado early warning
• National Forest Service
• Ocean cargo and freight inspection
• Pollution/industrial monitoring
• Robotic disarming of explosives
• Weapons inspection
MNDP’s technology will become more and more appealing to the public as a more immediate response is proven to be the “difference between life and death” in a tragic accident or disaster. Urgent response VTOL UAVs will become a replacement for out-dated rescue and evacuation options and as a substitute to traditional methods of emergency transport.
On the military side, ultra high mobility gives the VTOL UAV the capability to operate in confined areas (under bridges, forested areas, etc.) inaccessible to other unmanned air vehicles that are limited to airborne operation. Areas that are hostile and inaccessible to conventional vehicles present a difficult challenge for elite fighting forces.
MNDP’s innovative and versatile Unmanned Vertical Take Off and Landing (UVTOL) combat vehicle can operate in crowded and inaccessible areas on land or sea. From a remote command station, this UVTOL combat vehicle will take off vertically like a helicopter and fly to designated locations. This remote controlled platform will provide easy access to even the most remote area and the most challenging terrain. This capability will enhance the tactical, strategic, and logistic capability of military search and rescue units of all the U.S. Armed Forces.
Photography
No other aerospace UAV company in the world has a higher profile in cutting edge aerial photography for commercial, movie, production and real world 6
business applications. When “Star Wars” director George Lucas and his Industrial Light & Magic Company needed tight, high-speed aerial footage for his Nissan Super Bowl commercial, they called for the ASI CamCopter.
The commercial was broadcast during the 2006 Super Bowl Football game and was viewed by more than 1 billion people worldwide. It gave audiences an exciting ”“bird’s eye view” that only CamCopter could provide.
The CamCopter system was developed by ASI and requires a pilot and an assistant to operate the camera, (which can be viewed live, via a laptop monitor),aerial footage can be taken from a hover up to fifty miles per hour. Previously, the only way to get aerial footage was from a real helicopter, which can be expensive and, in many cases, too large. The system, including a smokeless engine and vibration dampening system, took more than four years to develop and delivers clear, jiggle-free 360-degree pictures, for microscopic as well as telescopic cameras, stereoscopic camera images for 3D IMAX type formats, and programmable aerial sequences pre-orchestrated from a set of professionally designed aerial flight patterns that are scalable in real time and provide easyflight pattern repetition for practising difficult coordinated film shots. The high resolution
motion picture camera used has the ability to pan and tilt fully in any direction, and can hold 200 feet of 35mm film.
A partial list of other TV, movie, commercial and music video film credits include:• Television (FOX feature film ”“Deadly Enemies”)• Theatrically released movies (”Gettysburg”, ”“Skeeter”)• TV commercials (Alfa Romeo, Baby Ruth, Colorado Lottery, Cognac, Honda Civic, Lincoln-Mercury, Nestle, Perrier, Reebok, Titleist Golf)• Music video (Melissa Ethridge, R. Kelly, Snoop Dog)Infrastructure Repair & Maintenance
In addition to specific precision real-time tooling for drilling, welding or placing pre-configured devices in place such as power line and telephone cable equipment, ADI’s AeroDroids can provide critical inspection, repair and maintenance of key infrastructure like bridges, dams, harbors, highways, mines, train rails, and tunnels.
Military
In 2003, the U.S. Navy co-developed an UAV under a Co-operative Research and Development Agreement with RAI and ASI. Planned proposals included as mall manoeuvrable UVTOL combat vehicle with the capability to hover and provide fire power. It could also eliminate or neutralize threats prior to the deployment of forces. The proposed UVTOL would be equipped with surveillance and firepower such as an M-34 Minigun. The proposed UVTOL is designed to be launched from a Trident submarine missile silo, or towed into a secure position over 100 miles from target. The combat vehicle is a smaller scale evolution of a current ducted fan road/air vehicle for personal transportation in which RAI holds a patent. The military design modification for UVTOL combat vehicle applications would be the addition of sensors, ballistic armor, remote control actuators, and armament.
The overall duct diameter is reduced from 100 to 83 inches to enable the vehicle to be launched from a submarine. The high payload capability allows the ultra high mobility UVTOL vehicle to carry larger systems such as the Side kick augment to the Navy SLQ-32(V)1 Electronic Countermeasures system, which can provide active radar jamming protection and decoy protection to ships without active transmitters.
ADI offers the urgent response and rescue professional all of the observation, monitoring and search options including GPS pin point accuracy control and location designator, dual camera independent 360 degree coordination of cameras in HD real time formats.
Personal Transportation
Patented two passenger 8-foot ducted fan VTOL vehicle with dual ballistic para-sails codeveloped
with the U.S. Navy, currently under production as VTOL V1 Flyer Kit.
The time is right for the acceptance of a dual mode vehicle, an alternative transportation that would ease traffic congestion and make commuting much faster and more convenient. Although both aircraft and automobile technologies are well established, they have never successfully been merged. Increases in design technology have made the rapid design and production of new concepts possible, yet no other concept under R&D has reached the market yet. As a result, MNDP is in an ideal position to emerge as an initial market leader.
The significant benefits of its proprietary technology are its ability to be flown with a small aerial footprint and land in close proximity with no danger of exposed propellers. While the market for conventional helicopters and small aircraft is relatively mature and somewhat saturated with established products, the market for VTOL ducted fan aircraft is presently untapped. MNDP’s VTOL Cruisers will be at the forefront of a new hybrid industry dedicated to providing an economically feasible alternative means of transportation.
The future of personal transportation is here
Last year, the company announced that it planned to sell its vehicles under the experimental kit aircraft protocol. The cost of the kit is $240,000 without the jet turbine engine, and will be built in four sections including cockpit, duct and tail sections each with 51% assembly required by owner. RAI plans to train existing helicopter and VTOL mechanics and certify a nation wide network of service centers to service and provide support for its VTOL aircraft.
As the company has already started building aircraft parts for its kit vehicle, sales expectations are for $100 million in twelve to eighteen months. The parts have been designed, built and tested prior to shipping. A quarter of the kit parts are built with the rest to be built over the next year, as demand should accelerate the completion and certification of the V1 Vortex production model.
Long-Term Major Market Opportunities
As the need for alternative transportation increases and public awareness increases, MNDP will be in an excellent position to become the market leader. As sales increase over time and competition emerges, the company will be well positioned to use information acquired during production and sales, to continually improve its product to better suit the need of its customers.
MNDP continues to innovate in order to meet the needs of a large and growing market. The company has developed a fourth generation jet turbine ducted fan technology which fuses state of the art design engineering and prototype facility with computer assisted auto flight technologies, remote controlled and composite technologies industry segments. Other design modifications have been incorporated to lower the cost of manufacturing and increase economy of operation, space-efficiency and simplicity. In addition, the company reports that the relatively low power requirements for its UAV technology make it possible for alternative fuel-powered operation, broadening its applications and making it even more environmentally benign.
Rising worldwide awareness of population and economic growth, industrial development, ageing equipment, global warming and increasing pollution continue to drive investments into infrastructure and clean technology.
LEADERSHIP
Armed with proven aerospace technology and an aggressive marketing strategy,MNDP is poised to rapidly expand operations and capture market share. The company is led by a seasoned management team with extensive experience in the aerospace market.

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon is building a series of air bases in eastern Afghanistan as part of its massive expansion of a system that uses drone aircraft to spy on and attack Taliban insurgents, according to interviews and documents.
In Afghanistan, harsh winters and a lack of airstrips near the fighting can hinder drone flights. It can take as long as three hours for a drone to reach battlefields, particularly in the rugged mountain area near the border with Pakistan. That area has seen some of the toughest fighting for U.S. troops. By contrast, it can take as little as 10 minutes for a drone to reach hot spots in Baghdad because the Iraqi capital has more air bases, said Dyke Weatherington, deputy director of the Pentagon's unmanned aerial systems task force.
"What the (Pentagon) is trying to do is go in and develop bases closer to those areas that we know we're going to have a sustained presence after a long period of time," Weatherington said. "In fact, recently we set up a couple of additional bases closer to the Pakistan border that cut down those transit times."
Col. Greg Julian, a military spokesman in Afghanistan, said in an e-mail that the military is adding more bases to accommodate drones and additional troops.
The military is developing drones with better deicing systems to help deal with the Afghan winters, he said.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates has made the expansion of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capability a top priority at the Pentagon. The ability to covertly monitor insurgents' movement and communication in Iraq and Afghanistan has helped the military kill top terrorists and detect roadside bombs.
"There's an insatiable demand" for information that can help U.S. forces target insurgents before they can strike, said Dakota Wood, a military analyst at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments.
Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Mastin Robeson, who leads the Marines' special operations command, said prompt, accurate intelligence is key to defeating insurgents. The information provided to his Marines in Afghanistan has been "terrific, but there's never enough," Robeson said. "We absolutely can use more."
Much of the budget for intelligence collection is secret, but some figures are not classified. Last year, the Pentagon received authority from Congress to shift $1.3 billion in its budget to pay for more drones and the systems needed to fly them. It will shift at least $750 million this year. In addition, it will spend more than $3 billion to buy and develop new unmanned systems this year, Weatherington said.
The Pentagon has also bought more piloted planes, outfitted with cameras and other sensors, to survey the battlefield.
The use of drones, which supply 95% of the full-motion video images commanders use to watch insurgent activity, has skyrocketed in recent years. As recently as 2005, drones flew 100,000 hours, most of it in support of troops in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2008, the number of hours in flight increased to nearly 400,000.
Since last year, the military has added more than 600 unmanned aircraft, ranging from small hand-launched spy planes to missile- and bomb-carrying Reapers. The military has about 6,000 such aircraft, up from 167 drones at the beginning of the war in 2001.
Air Force surveillance flights in Iraq and Afghanistan have increased substantially.
In Iraq in September, the Air Force flew 862 surveillance sorties compared with 506 in September 2007.
In Afghanistan, the Air Force flew 462 surveillance flights in September compared with 248 a year earlier.

WASHINGTON — The Air Force will train more drone operators than fighter and bomber pilots combined for the first time this year, signaling a fundamental shift for the 61-year-old service, records and interviews with top officials show.
The growing ranks of drone operators mark a turning point for the Air Force as it looks to a future that relies increasingly on unmanned aircraft. Over the next few decades, the Air Force plans to develop drones that would serve as fighters, bombers and tankers, the heart of its manned fleet, according to its Unmanned System Update. The document says piloted aircraft will be used in concert with drones.
IN AFGHANISTAN: Gen. McChrystal takes charge
Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who took over Monday as top commander in Afghanistan, told senators this month that he couldn't envision a day when he has enough surveillance assets. They allow for greater precision when using weapons and thus reduce civilian casualties, he said.
The Air Force will train 240 pilots to fly Predator and Reaper drones compared with 214 fighter and bomber pilots for the budget year that ends in September. Overall, there are 550 drone pilots compared with 3,700 fighter and 900 bomber pilots. The current emphasis for drones reflects the need for persistent, eye-in-the-sky surveillance to track and kill insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan.
FIND MORE STORIES IN: al-Qaeda | Abu Musab al-Zarqawi | Norton A. Schwartz
"The capability provided by the unmanned aircraft is game-changing," Gen. Norton Schwartz, the Air Force chief of staff, told USA TODAY in an e-mailed statement. "We can have eyes 24/7 on our adversaries. The importance of that is clear in the feedback from the ground troops — this is a capability they don't want to be without."
Lt. Gen. David Deptula, Air Force deputy chief of staff for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions, said intelligence gathering is key to counterinsurgency operations. An example, he said in an interview, was the tracking and killing in 2006 of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq. It took 600 hours of surveillance by a Predator drone to track Zarqawi and a matter of minutes for an F-16 to drop the bombs that killed him.
Loren Thompson, a military analyst with the Lexington Institute, said intelligence gathering has been a weakness for the Pentagon for years but has improved recently. "The Air Force has now gotten the message that it's important to be responsive to the war fighters on the ground," he said.
