Remember the petition, or whatever, signed by multiple agencies/orgs. requesting the mandate go into effect, with suggested timelines? March 2019 was the suggestion for rulemaking, and my gut tells me it'll happen around that time.
Nicotine found in 'nicotine-free' e-cigarette liquids sold in Australia, study finds
https://www.abc.net.au/news/health/2019-01-14/nicotine-found-in-nicotine-free-e-cigarette-liquids/10709786
'Lead researcher Alex Larcombe of the Telethon Kids Institute said the findings highlighted the risks of "little to no regulation" of vaping products in Australia.'
He said it in a conference near the end of December, 2018. He misspoke, but clearly meant sometime in 2019. I say March.
Perhaps your subconscious intention for posting hints at the idea that high-level change is possible... not that people are becoming more ethical, but that it is difficult to ignore truth when the facts are plainly unveiled for all to see. The truth about tobacco has reached the pinnacle of human understanding... VLN mandate is inevitable. Even PM knows it.
The commish did say, this year.
I agree.
I've only become annoyed by price fluctuations, so have decided to trade 20% of my investment, and hold the rest as a long-term core position (as I still believe in the company's IP)... I believe this was a suggestion by Sendme way back when.
Makes sense given the turbulent up and down trends in share price.
Vaping sent this teenager into rehab. His parents blame Juul's heavy nicotine dose.

"In fact, one modeling estimate found that if a nicotine product standard is put in place by 2020, nearly 8 million premature deaths caused by smoking would be avoided by the year 2100."
Also interesting...
Wasn't the suggestion March 2020 for full implementation? And March 2019, the Standard would be introduced- giving time for BT to make their changes i.e. 1 year?
Hi Doc- from Nathan:
Interesting article. But like many, it seems to confuse nicotine content with nicotine yield.
This quote specifically talks about content and the very low level proposed is within the scope of our SPECTRUM research cigarettes and our VLN cigarettes as used in our MRTP application.
“Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye said the proposal involves efforts to reduce the current nicotine rate in cigarettes to a lower rate between 0.3 to 0.5 miligrammes (mg) for each grammes of tobacco being used in a cigarette.”
But this next quote is talking about yield per cigarette.
“Since 1 June 2015, nicotine content in cigarettes in Malaysia is set at a maximum of 1 mg, after it was lowered from 1.5 mg.”
A 1mg nicotine per cigarette yield is roughly equivalent to a 20 mg per gram tobacco nicotine content.
Still… good to see some other governments moving toward a nicotine reduction standard.
PM: Down 3 per
MO: Down 3 per
BTI: Down 4 per
We're up

Well, Henry did suggest that people are expecting to hear back from the FDA on the Standard by end of December. With regard to ANPRM, Gottlieb said:
"We have expedited the review of many of the comments, and spent hours, days and months taking close consideration of the questions raised and evidence presented by the public and various stakeholders."
That sounds to me like we may hear something by end of December as well. In any case, the next 60 days are setup to be interesting. Causal density is high IMO and we can only surmise what'll move XXII at this point in its company timeline.
FDA is wetting its lips with menthol...
I like this word... accelerate... wait til it applies to VLN policy...
"Now, armed with the additional years of data, comments from the public – and with the perspective of our Comprehensive Plan and its implementation – the FDA will accelerate the proposed rulemaking process to ensure that our policies on flavored tobacco products protect public health across the continuum of risk."
"As part of our Comprehensive Plan, in addition to issuing the ANPRMs to hear the public’s input on the role of flavors in tobacco products, and on cigars, we also issued an ANPRM on lowering nicotine in cigarettes. We have expedited the review of many of the comments, and spent hours, days and months taking close consideration of the questions raised and evidence presented by the public and various stakeholders."

Is there any company like Zelda? The Sleep Centre and CHOP (one of the top children's hospitals in the world...) are strong partnerships... patience will pay off on this one?

Does anyone know why the newsfeed for Zelda doesn't update on US OTC?
"If our CEO is correct and the FDA's discloses their plans for low nicotine standard cigarettes we should finally see deals and demands for our VLN tobacco."
Yes... this is what I'm excited about most, near-term.
Yes I know the FDA is a US entity but that’s not my point.
It’s an entity that other governments’ similar institutions tend to follow- FDA put in the ground work- best to wait for their conclusion as it is near. Such a decision is not one easily made without the thousand page science-backed evidence. Ironic Henry made a similar point in CC.
It's more prudent for other countries to wait for the FDA call- the FDA has put in the time/money/resources to studying this... to determining the Standard... and the determination will soon be made.
Alternative- Countries would implement VLNC without the FDA completing their "study"? Doesn't make sense.
Nice find
Why not...
Let's bring this back to substance...
