LIE!!! Really great film. REALLY great.
Ditto on rest, except the Grill part :)
Oh, and the Clayton part.
Right, and the telling to junk part too - hahahaha
Ditto the rest.
Manana, Lobo
LOL! Great things have to grow on you sometimes, you know? Like the song on the CD you didn't notice first time around that becomes your favorite EVER.
Can't say that I am so familiar I'd know a perfect one were I to run into it, but I do know a perfect poopy STIRRER when I meet one.
Chu the poopy stirrer - lol
Poopsy, that's my new nickname for you. My little poopsy, hahahaha.
Is it obvious I had two glasses of wine?
I'll regret this but I'm submitting it.
Amico, never could you turn me off!
Tx for well wishes. Things are looking up....
Let me see what other gifts I have in my inbox :)))))))))))
LOL
Okay, Clayton... Tx again. Will see Parents and will save the rest of these public posts for when I get home. Something to look forward to.
Owen can be amazing. But he can fall into the same trap Stiller does with typecasting in comedies. Did you see The Minus Man? GREAT!! Brian Cox's best performance along side of LIE.
Hate to run but duty calls.
See you later, tonight or tomorrow.........
OUT
I sometimes think it has to do with experiences with people in your life. Certain qualities, traits or idiosyncrasies we've developed an aversion to.
I can see the thing with Cage - lol! I love him. He's in some great movies. Seen Matchstick Men (I think that was the title).
I am what I am..... :)
Now, how would I describe you!!!!
Oh, this one is so saved for later!!!
My husband is in the hospital and I can't stay that long but you KNOW I will pay close attention to this one when I get home. You are so cool, Lobo. I can't thank you enough for this. It's going to totally heighten the experience of watching these.
So good to see you. I think I told you I was going away for a bit. Got back Monday to an emergency. Running in circles. I'll reply tonight to this one.
Huge THANKS for taking the time.
It's Chu!!!!!!!!!!! Hi!!!!!!!!
LOL!!!!!! I am THE movie board basher!!!
Hi there, Cintrix
So good to see you....
I loved the movie, Rainman - INSPITE of the fact that it was Hoffman. I find his acting to be so obvious. If I'd never seen him before I'd say, wow, his depiction of the idiot savant was amazing. But I could not get the Hoffman I know out of that character. It irritated me, actually. I have never liked his acting. I think we all have people like that. I see waves of terse self-consciousness in his expression that irk me and keep me chronically aware that he is inwardly observing himself all the time, never surrendering to a part and getting out of his own way. Like some people you meet who can't get over themselves. It's usually based in insecurity so you overlook it in life, but on the stage it is a quality I have a personal aversion to. His mouth is a particular giveaway. Forgive the rather neurotic observation on my part. I am incapable of not perceiving what is going on in a person's mind by their expressions.
Hope to see more of you!
LOBO!
That's exactly my experience. I laughed at a number of scenes too, regardless. It did have its moments. I told Raz, I love to laugh too much to let a bad movie take a moment of giddy abandon away from me. I totally agree. I happen to like Stiller's type of comedy. It's innocent and sweet and all - perfect in Zero Effect. They just need to find a slightly new way of utilizing him, of directing him, like they've done for Adam Sandler. Great divergence for him in Punch Drunk Love (which I LOVED!) and Spanglish.
Can't believe they're going to bludgeon us to death with a third. Didn't see #1 and may not, at least for awhile.
DeNiro WAS really terrific. What a pro, how he handled that part.
A remake of The Graduate, huh? Wonder who they're going to cast in it.
Been on a treadmill lately. One more post to peek at and I'll have to head out for a bit but really look forward to seeing you to talk about a few more movies and shtuff :)
Meet the Fockers - FIVE THUMBS DOWN!
I loved Ben Stiller in a few movies, mostly Zero Effect and There's Something About Mary but ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!
I have to admit though, De Niro was terrific. He did a superb job with that role, til the very end. Wasn't his fault. Twas the script.
Dustin Hoffman sucked, as usual. I have never liked his acting. The Graduate, maybe...
Where's this survey?
Must run, you post it?
Okay, will look.
The first thing that pops into my head is Repo Man - LOL!!!! But I don't think that was a Toyota.
Let me go take care of business and see if anything hits me. I am the world's worst trivia person. I am not without talents, but trivia ain't one of em.......
Know thine own self and be spared low self-esteem!
Me thinks Junk will come to the rescue.
Back soon.......... :)
:)
too cool
can't wait
I'm completely open to suggestions. It's uncharted waters for me and is a genre you don't want to go into without guidance.
Give me one, the best in your opinion, and I'll see it.
Good question. I will give it a 3 out of 5 for overall quality regarding movie making and a 4.25 out of five for meaningfulness and depth. It packs a profound wallop. So glad I hung in there.
The acting, in the beginning, is a turn off and almost made me shut it off. VERY MISLEADING OUT OF THE GATE. Really too bad. It's like the title "Swingers". That title keeps lots of people from even giving the flick a chance.
Try The Shape of Things again, okay? It'll be a fun topic to discuss.
No, haven't seen either, yet. Will let you know what I think of each soon. Going away for awhile, til mid-next week. They'll be hanging around here til then, I fear.
I'm sure I'll love Sin City - sure of it. Have seen previews.
Here, for when you're bored (right!). My queue. If you see anything I should move up or eliminate, let me know. I'm positive I've seen a good 1/5 of these but have forgotten. You know how it is when you've seen so many movies. Sometimes the title isn't enough to jog the memory. So, when you feel like scrolling - lol, scroll away and comment on any particularly good or bad choices, okay?
If you don't do it, NO PROBLEM. My husband refused to sit with me and review the titles to help me out here. He has a better memory for titles but has no friggin clue what's going on while we're watching them - ha!!! It takes a good fifteen minutes on pause now and then to get him on the right page. No disrespect, he'd be the first to admit it! At least he doesn't rent movies twice, like I do, thinking it's brand spanking new.

Suggest anything else to me, then, because I loved them both to death. TX!
We should take a poll on which Shrek was most beloved!
P.S. Next three movies in queue after Bully and (yes, you were correct) Slums of Beverly Hills:
1. Primer - moved it up :)
2. Sin City
3. Fishing with John
Morning!
Banzai is a classic goofball movie. Lithgow WAS a trip. I think it's time for me to revisit that one myself, refresh the memory.
Henry Fool is a favorite of mine. I think you are going to love it. Really. It is a one of a kind, Thomas Jay Ryan .... Henry Foo and James Urbaniak .... Simon Grim play completely original characters.
Never seen Heavenly Kid.... should I now?
Saw a movie called The Shape of Things on Raz's rec. He didn't say it was a masterpiece but that there was an ethics issue. At first I was wondering what the heck he had me rent but my husband had read the blurb, something I try not to do so the element of surprise isn't lost. This time the whole movie would have been had he not read it. Was going to put it on hold and one never knows if one will get back to a movie once you do that. Husband said, "keep watching, there's a reason for all of that you might like". He was correct. Wonderful issue posed. Would love for you to see it so Raz, you and I can debate or discuss. DON'T READ THE REVIEWS AND JUST LET IT HAPPEN, if you do rent it.
Out for a few. Great seeing you!
Maybe I'll respond to one more post :)
Hi!
Happy to hear that. I loved The Incredibles tremendously. It's one of the few I'm actually buying so I can see it a dozen times. The dinner table scene was priceless. Don't get me started, I could talk about this movie for hours and I'm beat but so happy to see there's another huge fan out there..
Loved Shrek! Shrek II even more. How about you? Which did you like better? I or II?
See you again and tx for responding to my post.
Hoop
Awake now!
I do believe the story held my attention, though, but I wasn't being flip when I said I get sucked into acting sometimes. There are scenes from movies that I rewind and play over and over, I find them so captivating. There's a scene in Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf where Liz and Burton are on the couch and she's being raw, really, really raw and totally naked (personality that is), cigarettes.... I rewound that scene a dozen times last time I watched that movie, which is not an easy film to watch. But her acting.... miraculous. She could act, that Liz.
Anyway, great acting transfixes me but the drawn out ending, I believe, was meant to make you feel how everyone in the scenes felt about this crossroads: the wife waiting for her husband - her state of mind - her fear, guilt and moment of reckoning, her mother feeling needed and useful to her daughter for the first time (actually wanting the moment to be prolonged), the couple not wanting to let go because they knew once their feet touched the ground the real world would take precedence over these few moments of honest love they were graced with, the brilliant and special daughter who was so her father's child, who loved her father more than anybody or anything, fearing that the one thing she could always count on might not happen this night, the comfort of her best friend, confidant and protector returning home. The drawn out ending was intentional, IMO. I longed for all involved throughout.
So, while maybe I believe you, for me it was not too long. I was with all of them, suspended in this twilight of fears, of knowing and not knowing, of longing and intense desire, the promise of real love slipping through your fingers for the greater good.
You might be right there. I am a sucker for great acting. It's like, "Oh. There was a story too?"
Tx for reply! So good to see you, Lobo!
You replied to something else but I was in a hurry when I first clicked it, damnit. Will hunt it down tomorrow. I'm falling over in my chair, I'm so tired. Falling, falling, falling..... BONK!
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
I have this one sitting on my table. Been looking forward for a long time. You make it sound so appetizing - ha!
It's come highly recommended by numerous friends, just now got around to it, though. Can't wait. TX for review.
Oh hey, look where I just stumbled into. Clearing throat:
COCK-A-DOODLE-DOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Spanglish - some amazing acting in this movie. AMAZING acting. If they hadn't made such a stereotype out of Paz Vega's character (who was dropdead gorgeous), Flor, I'd be tempted to give this 4.75 out of 5 stars.
Sandler, Leoni, Leachman and Steele (WHAT a performance from Steele!!! The kid can make you cry, really, really feel and cry - she blew me away.) gave near flawless performances. Leoni and Bruce were wonderful but went just a bit over the top too often. For that I give it 4.5 out of 5.
God, Leachman was unbelievable, as was Leoni. Watching Leoni made a vein pop out in my neck, I so felt her character's angst. Leachman, WOW!!!! What a set on that woman. I'm so tempted to talk scenes but don't dare.
Sandler did his relatively newfound Sandler thing, which is really beautiful. He's sure maturing into an original character actor. Punchdrunk love was about as successful as Spanglish, IMO. I loved it, too.
Anyway, don't want to give too much away to those who've not seen this movie. I highly recommend it.
The acting, the acting, oh, such fine acting. THE ACTING!!!!!
Sideways
The Station Agent
The Incredibles
Princess Bride
My only 5 out of 5 stars movies seen within the last year or two.
I was just going to write about Spanglish. Sorry to hear that OU. I had a lot of fun here.
I'm sad.
Hi OU,
Started watching Triplets of Bellville. I was tired and it was just not enough when you are half asleep, but my sense is it's a masterpiece. Will finish tonight and comment tomorrow.
See you soon :)
Friday night and I just watched Virgin:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0368411/
I really need to get out more!
I'll give it 3.5 out of 5. Really did like it. Why am I not giving it more? Anybody see Breaking the Waves? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115751/ GREAT movie. Virgin wasn't really like Breaking the Waves but strove to have a similar protagonist. A bit of Kids thrown in there in a more wholesome way. Well, it was none of these but had elements of each, and other films as well but I'll spare you. It was a much more modest film than either of the aforementioned. It wasn't quite as visionary or successful as either of them. Wasn't as powerful. But it was good, very good. Great soundtrack.
Anyway, hard for a woman to watch at times, as was Kids. Rape and brutality... Lots of Born Again religion stuff - infuriating to me for personal reasons.
Anyway, it's a slow, gentle movie for such a brutal one, that perhaps handles certain subject matter (teen pregnancy) in a dated way. Still and all, I enjoyed it.
P.S. Should add that the preganant girl believes she's carrying the second coming of Christ. Won't say anymore.
Got it. I owe you, that would have driven me nuts.
see you..........
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!
Wait, that's your zap? I'm all confused. Before I get totally disoriented (which isn't hard)..... OUT!
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
Wait! I have the power to peek.
I am going to be late and it's all your fault, Lobo :)
See you soon! Out to lunch with parents now....
That was fun! I feel liberated.
WE BOTH EDITED?
I thought you were commenting on mine. Too funny. Give that comment back.
You! Vulgar! LOL!!! That's the funniest joke of all.
I mean, not that you're Susie or anything.....
