Why Economists Are Warning That The Trump Tax Plan Will Be An Epic Disaster
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/political-pressure-trumped-fiscal-responsibility-in-gop-tax-cut-crusade
"But Bruce Bartlett, an economic adviser to President Ronald Reagan who helped craft the 1986 tax bill, said such comparisons are extremely misleading.
“There is no historical evidence that any tax cut in history comes anywhere near paying for itself,” he said bluntly. “At the most you get back a third of the revenue you lose, but that might be overly optimistic.”
Bartlett, who also served as a Treasury Department official under George H.W. Bush, added that most previous tax cuts were enacted during economic downturns with high unemployment, and argued this bill will have far less positive impact because the economy is already doing well.
“When there is more slack in the economy, you get more bang for the buck,” he explained. “But there’s no reason to think that now, when we’re at a cyclical peak, that we’ll see any stimulative effect at all. If I were a corporate executive, I wouldn’t be building new factories for all the new sales I’m going to get.”
Stan Collender, a former top staffer on the House and Senate Budget Committees, who worked under both Republican and Democratic administrations, said not only will the current bill fail to help the country, it will cause significant harm.
“Unless the laws of economics have been repealed, and not even Trump can do that, this has the potential for being one of the biggest disasters in American history,” he told TPM. “The deficit hawks who for the last few months have been in a witness protection program are going to emerge with a vengeance to demand the deficit they just increased exponentially is a problem, and the pressure on Social Security and Medicaid is going to be pretty intense.”

Tax Plans Pave Way for Massive Cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security.
"It may seem counterintuitive at first, but to "small-government" types, this is a dream come true. The increased national debt gives the perfect political cover for cutting social programs. And this reform won't be limited to traditional welfare programs for struggling parents, which in 2016 amounted to less than half a percent of the total federal budget. Instead, lawmakers will take direct aim at the social programs where the most money is spent, and upon which the most Americans rely: Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security".

Rushing to Gut Net Neutrality May Leave Internet Providers With No Federal Oversight.
"He's not even getting support from the conservative base," Feld said. "We are seeing that Republicans who are worried about running for reelection now have to worry about this issue; they are getting a lot of phone calls."
As of Monday night, members of Congress had received 771,904 calls opposing Pai's proposal to gut the net neutrality rules since the chairman announced his plan, according to the pro-net-neutrality site battleforthenet.com. A recent poll by Morning Consult and Politico found that 52 percent of respondents support the current net neutrality rules, including 55 percent of Democrats and 53 percent of Republicans. Republicans Are Coming for Your Benefits

"For budget deficits are going to soar thanks to Republican legislation — probably by even more than the official scorekeepers say, because the legislation creates so many new loopholes. And offsetting those deficits will require going after the true big-ticket programs, namely Medicare and Social Security.
Oh, they’ll find euphemisms to describe what they’re doing, talking solemnly about the need for “entitlement reform” as an act of fiscal responsibility — while their huge budget-busting tax cut for the rich gets shoved down the memory hole. But whatever words they use to cloak the reality of the situation, Republicans have given their donors what they wanted — and now they’re coming for your benefits".
Doug Jones Tears Into Roy Moore: ‘Men Who Hurt Little Girls Should Go to Jail’

"One day after President Trump officially endorsed accused child molester Roy Moore in Alabama’s U.S. Senate race, the Democratic nominee absolutely tore into the ex-judge. After months of remaining relatively even-handed in contrast to Moore’s bizarre antics (including toting a rifle on-stage), Doug Jones told a crowd Tuesday afternoon: “When you see me with a gun, I’ll be climbing in and out of a deer blind... not prancing around on a stage in a cowboy suit.” He emphasized that Moore, who was twice removed from office as an Alabama State Supreme Court justice, has “never, ever served our state with honor.” And Jones concluded by going straight for the jugular on the bevy of accusations that Moore engaged in sexual misconduct with underage girls when he was in his 30s: “Men who hurt little girls should go to jail and not the United States Senate.” (The line was also an apparent reference to the fact that Jones prosecuted two Ku Klux Klan members who killed four young black girls in a 1963 church bombing.)"

Republicans spoil for a fight over Russia probe budget
"Robert Mueller's first spending report must be reviewed by the Justice Department, but lawmakers are already questioning the open-ended use of taxpayer funds."
https://www.politico.com/story/2017/10/26/robert-mueller-probe-budget-fight-244218
"The Starr investigation — as well as the work of three other independent counsels who ran the case — remains the most expensive in U.S. history — costing more than $73 million, according to audits done by the Government Accountability Office. That single Clinton probe, which started in 1994 with an examination of the Clintons’ real estate deals in Arkansas took several unexpected turns over seven-plus years and ended up covering the suicide of White House attorney Vincent Foster, irregularities in the White House travel office, allegations of misuse of confidential FBI files, false statements by a top White House attorney and finally the president’s sexual affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
The investigation drew harsh political criticism for many reasons, including its spending: Over the full course of the probe it had more than 225 employees from the Justice Department and other federal agencies, including at least 65 consultants and outside advisers, according to a final report released in 2002.
While the bulk of Starr’s spending was detailed in summary format, on at least one occasion some of the embarrassing budget specifics did go public. House Democrats in 1998 released to the Los Angeles Timesinternal documents showing spending of $370 a month for a parking space for the independent counsel, a $32,380 bill to survey an Arkansas community where potential jurors would be seated in a trial of the state's governor, and $30,517 for a psychological analysis of the evidence connected to Foster’s suicide.
Despite the criticism, Starr senior counsel Paul Rosenzweig said “there was never a serious effort” to strip the independent counsel’s spending. “The politics of trying to do so would be terrible optics,” he said.
Six separate investigations during the Clinton administration ran up costs of more than $140 million. President Ronald Reagan faced eight different probes, including Iran-Contra, for a total of more than $84 million, according to a POLITICO review of government audits and reports on their spending".

I heard that's the case in some states that if you have a medical marijuana card, then it excludes you from having a CCW. Which is total bullshit because medical marijuana has just trace elements of THC, and is almost exclusively CBD's for medical treatment.
But because it contains the word "Marijuana" then they can legally exclude those folks.
So, the thing to do if you live in (or by) a state that has legalized MM "And" "Recreational Marijuana" you can buy it without a MM card. I think right?
It really shouldn't be a schedule I drug, that's totally insane, but the federal law hasn't changed and it's not going to in the immediate future.
It's more of a political issue really than it is a drug issue.
But good point, they are using the law to discriminate against gun owners because they don't like the idea of people walking around with concealed weapons. So they are using the law to discriminate against them and until the federal laws pertaining to marijuana are changed, there isn't a court in the land that will decide for the gun owners, because of current federal law.

The case for normalizing impeachment
Impeaching an unfit president has consequences. But leaving one in office could be worse.
In recent months, I have grown obsessed with a seemingly simple question: Does the American political system have a remedy if we elect the wrong person to be president? There are clear answers if we elect a criminal, or if the president falls into a coma. But what if we just make a hiring mistake, as companies do all the time? What if we elect someone who proves himself or herself unfit for office — impulsive, conspiratorial, undisciplined, destructive, cruel?

Trump Son-in-Law Jared Kushner Named as 'Very Senior Member' Who Instructed Flynn on Russia
"The investigation has progressed from the campaign, to the White House, and now inside Donald Trump's family."
The communication between Flynn and Kislyak went against instructions from the Obama administration, which urged the Trump transition team to stay out of foreign affairs until Trump was inaugurated, arguing that its involvement would undermine Obama's policies.
Those efforts by Kushner and Flynn, warn experts, could be seen by prosecutors as a direct violation of the Logan Act which forbids unauthorized negotiations with foreign governments that run counter to official U.S. policy.

What Flynn's guilty plea has to do with lying about Trump sabotage of Security Council Resolution against Israeli settlements
Knowledge that Israel was spying on the Obama administration during this period might reflect even more negatively on the Trump machinations against the resolution before he assumed office. It would strengthen the notion that official U.S. interests and Israelis interests were totally at odds in this case. That in turn strengthens the notion of a Logan Act violation (see below).

James Comey Just Taunted Trump on Twitter With a Very Fitting Bible Verse
Vindication is sweet.
Comey, who was fired by Trump as FBI director this past May, subsequently testified in front of Congress that President Trump had asked him to “let go” over the agency’s investigation into Flynn. Comey also said that Trump had demanded an oath of loyalty to him.
By the time Trump asked Comey to drop its investigation into Flynn this past February, the FBI had already discovered that Flynn had lied to agents about a conversation he had with former Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Kushner Is Leaving Tillerson in the Dark on Middle East Talks, Sources Say
By Nick Wadhams and Erik Schatzker
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is increasingly alarmed by what he sees as secret talks between Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, and Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman -- fearful that the discussions could backfire and tip the region into chaos, according to three people familiar with Tillerson’s concerns.
Tillerson and other senior State Department officials are also concerned that Saudi leaders, having been held at arm’s length by President Barack Obama, see the connection with Kushner as a way to regain influence in the White House and U.S. backing for actions that could be controversial. Already, Prince Mohammed, heir to the Saudi throne, has put several such steps into motion.

After Flynn, Are Kushner and Don Jr. Next?
Lest there be any doubt about what is happening, the statement of the offense filed along with Mr. Flynn’s plea shows that he is prepared to testify that the communications that he lied about, concerning conversations with the Russian ambassador in December 2016, were discussed with multiple members of the transition team — including one “senior official” and one “very senior member.” It is not yet clear who those individuals are, but transition officials and members included Jared Kushner and Donald Trump Jr. as well as Vice President Mike Pence, Representative Devin Nunes of California; the former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
It is probably Mr. Kushner who is in greatest jeopardy now. Bloomberg has reported that he is the very senior transition member who directed Mr. Flynn to reach out to Russia. Mr. Kushner has already been questioned by the special counsel and by Congress. If he was one of those officials Mr. Flynn spoke to and he was not honest about it when questioned, he could face similar false statement charges.

Kushner Asked Flynn to Contact Russian Ambassador, Sources Say
Disclosure came as result of plea deal in Mueller’s probe
Flynn reported to McFarland on meeting, two people say
Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, is the “very senior” member of the presidential transition identified by former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn as having instructed him to reach out to Russia and several other countries last December, according to two people familiar with the matter.
As part of a deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller to plead guilty to a charge of lying to FBI agents, Flynn provided details surrounding a controversial meeting he held with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak. According to a court filing, Flynn said that a “very senior member” of the presidential transition team asked Flynn on Dec. 22 to contact officials to help delay or defeat a United Nations Security Council vote condemning Israeli settlement policies.

How Republicans are ambushing America with their tax bill
But if you want to see a bill rammed through, right now Republicans are showing us how it's done.
Know how many hearings they held on this tax bill? Zero. That's right, zero. And how many experts did they hear from? One — the chief of staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation, Congress' official scorer of tax legislation, testified at the beginning of the Senate Finance Committee's markup process (where amendments are considered). And the whole process has proceeded at breakneck speed, with a bill of enormous complexity being frantically written and rewritten behind closed doors, all so it could be voted on before the opposition had enough time to gain momentum.
There are two essential reasons why. The first is that they'd prefer people not understand what's in the bill, a series of changes that will do enormous harm to millions of Americans. The second is that the more scrutiny there is, the more people will understand that all the claims Republicans are making are utterly bogus.

Jared Kushner Can’t Pass His Security Clearance Investigation, Officials Say.
"If Jared Kushner was working for any other department in the U.S. government and these issues arose … about falsifying a clearance or omitting information … his access would be first suspended, and then if there’s no other position he could hold, he’d be out of work without pay. Time for limited US military action against North Korea.
The Trump administration has taken the right approach to the North Korean threat by increasing sanctions, collaborating with our allies and pressing China and Russia to pressure Pyongyang before using military force. But it is now time for President Trump to consider limited military action to seize the initiative and demonstrate his resolve to solve this crisis.
Military action should be carefully calibrated to send the message that the U.S. will no longer stand by while Pyongyang develops nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. This should start by declaring North Korean airspace as a missile no-fly zone and shooting down future North Korean missiles. The U.S. might need to ratchet up this response by destroying North Korean missiles on the ground. Other initial military action could include a naval blockade and stopping and searching North Korean ships at sea for WMD-related cargo.

There is still no Senate tax bill and a vote could be just hours away
Republicans are overhauling the nation’s tax code on the fly.
Senate Republicans don’t have a tax bill yet. But they plan to pass one Friday.
The majority is short on votes — nearly suffering a humiliating loss on a procedural vote Thursday — and desperately rewriting its tax overhaul mere hours before they plan to put it on the Senate floor for passage.
What’s being discussed? You could ask a half-dozen senators and get a half-dozen answers. Senators learned Thursday that a “trigger” proposal by Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) to have automatic tax hikes if the federal deficit increases too quickly would not fly under the Senate’s “budget reconciliation” rules. That threw the whole plan into chaos.

Senate Republicans Are Scrambling to Rewrite Their Tax Bill After a Mini-Rebellion
GOP leaders are trying to slice $350 billion from the bill to appease deficit hawks.
Senate Republicans learned Thursday evening that they have a $350 billion problem. The news came as senators congregated on the chamber’s floor for a procedural vote, and led to a tense intra-party showdown that left Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) visibly sullen. The revenue trigger Republicans had planned to include in their tax bill violates the chamber’s procedural rules and will have to be scrapped at the last minute—threatening support from a cohort of Republicans concerned about the massive hole the GOP’s tax cuts would blow into the national debt.
The verdict from Elizabeth MacDonough, the usually obscure Senate parliamentarian, came amidst what should have been a hopeless move by Democrats to send the tax bill off the Senate floor and back to the finance committee. Instead, the vote locked at 48 in favor of slowing down, and 49 against, as Sens. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), and Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) refused to keep the bill moving forward.

The Internet Is Freedom, and It Is Under Attack
For the internet service providers (ISPs), the core of the argument is control. Title II derives its authority from Congress, which first deployed the rule in 1934 to regulate the telephone monopoly enjoyed by AT&T. Title II, in short, labels the internet as a necessary utility (just as it did with the telephone) and makes it subject to the same regulations as other utilities like water and heat. The ISPs hate that the internet has been designated as such, and this push by the FCC to eliminate that designation is taking place at their behest.
