NioCorp appoints VP of finance as rapid development of Elk Creek continues
Tue 1:57 pm by Deborah Bacal

Shah has almost 20 years of experience in various industries from high tech to rare earths, and was recently the director of strategy and business planning at Molycorp's corporate offices in Greenwood Village, Colorado.
NioCorp Developments (CVE:NB)(OTCQX:NIOBF) has appointed Neal S. Shah to the position of VP of finance, the company said Tuesday.
Shah has almost 20 years of experience in various industries from high tech to rare earths, and was recently the director of strategy and business planning at Molycorp's corporate offices in Greenwood Village, Colorado.
He was previously with Intel for six years, working as a finance manager in the high growth wireless business group, and prior to this, also worked for IBM, Boeing and Covidien.
"We believe Neal is the ideal candidate to help guide the company forward in conjunction with the technical work currently underway to accelerate the company through the project development stage," said chief executive Mark Smith, who is also the previous CEO of Molycorp.
NioCorp's property, which lies near Elk Creek, Nebraska, is the highest grade undeveloped niobium deposit in North America, discovered by Molycorp back in the late 1960s.
Niobium is mainly used in the form of ferro-niobium to produce high strength, low alloy steel, for use in automotive, structural and pipeline applications, and demand is seen increasing as the U.S. currently imports 100% of its niobium needs.
The company recently moved into the second phase of drilling at its Elk Creek property as part of its ongoing development program. It announced last month for the first time results in excess of 3% material, and just last week it found increased levels of over 4%, confirming its belief that Elk Creek is a "world class deposit."
The drilling results will be included in an updated NI 43-101 compliant report to be produced once the full multi-phase, 12,000 metre drilling program is finished.
NioCorp says that its better-than-expected results from the drilling program thus far will allow it to develop its niobium property in the least amount of time possible, and as a result, added a third rig to speed up the process.
"As another key addition to the team, Neal's experience in evaluating the financial aspects of development, together with the tremendous technical work being completed under the guidance of Scott Honan, Vice President, Business Development, will allow us to continue the rapid pace of development at our Elk Creek niobium project," added Smith

He also helped develop the strategic decision making to reestablish Intel's position in the Wireless landscape. Prior to his work at Intel, Mr. Shah was a Software Pricing Manager at IBM and a Liaison engineer at the Boeing Company.
Neal received his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Colorado, and his MBA from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University.

must read on IAMGold 2nd quarter earnings
Update: Iamgold's Q2 Earnings
Aug. 14, 2014 2:08 AM ET | About: IAMGOLD Corporation (IAG)
Disclosure: The author has no positions in any stocks mentioned, but may initiate a long position in IAG over the next 72 hours. (More...)
Summary
IAMGOLD reported a second quarter profit of $8.8 million and operating cash-flow of $96.8 million on revenues of $288 million.
The company brought down production costs to $1,136/oz. which is great news considering that production costs were an issue for the company last year.
As I predicted last September the company's niobium mine - Niobec - is leading the way in terms of profitability.
Going forward the company's costs should come down even more as it began production at its low-cost Westwood Project.
After a long period of under-performance IAMGOLD shares are set to trade higher assuming the gold price holds up, but it is still risky if the gold price declines.
IAMGOLD (NYSE:IAG) just reported its second quarter earnings, and they were very strong. The company reported earnings of $8.8 million or $0.02/share on revenue of $288 million. The company also generated $96.8 million in free cash-flow - not bad for a $1.5 billion company. This is in spite of the fact that the company has relatively high production costs of roughly $1,136/oz. thanks to the company's 6 producing mines, including its highly profitable niobium mine - Niobec.
Investors will recall that I highlighted Niobec last September as an extremely compelling asset that could generate enormous profits for a company that was essentially breaking even as a gold miner. I argued that it was a pillar of stability that would protect the company so long as the gold market was lousy. While the stock continued to fall after that, there is strong evidence that the company turned its operations around. The strongest two pieces of evidence include the company's reduction in production costs by $60/oz. in the second quarter year over year accompanied by the fact that the company recently began commercial production at its Westwood Project in Canada. This is a topic I discussed a couple of weeks ago here, but in short the Westwood project is a low risk low cost producing mine that will add potentially $70 million in cash-flow at $1,300/oz. gold for nearly 20 years.
With these positive developments the company still has some issues. For instance it still has a large debt load of $640 million which costs money to service and which threatens the company's solvency in a low gold price environment. Second, the company operates mines in what are often perceived to be high risk mining jurisdictions such as Burkina Faso and Suriname.
However, if you are willing to take these risks, IAMGOLD is probably the best positioned major gold miner to rebound once the gold price resumes its uptrend.

Thanks for the update Walter, Wish I was there . Wow your a lucky guy im with you, picked up more shares this week
Brazil's CBMM runs about 2% Grade 500% greater than Niobec and only 200% to 300% more than Niocorp ( assuming we continue will approx .70% plus) also we are drilling results of 1% to 2%. Soo Niobec profited about 100 Million last year and CBMM $600 Million so we are projected to be well over Niobecs in a perfect world, plus if our extraction rate can be 75% , our profits will be lifted substantially
Dear Moderators of this board, Just wondering if you could update the news on this board? The top of the board has a list of recent news releases, but not the last few great ones. Just a suggestion to help inform the newer investors here.I dont know if thats IH or if you guys control it
Thanks
I agree, Mark Smith is much more in this for the long term, this is not a CEO of a Junior trying to make it rich by moving along the project with a "Dog and Pony Marketing show" He is already quite rich. He was making over 6 Million a year plus options and stock at Molycorp . he stills owns 850000 shares there. He does not need $. He wants to be the only USA Niobium player and he will succeed IMHO
By on dips we are about the break through our ALL time high and after the next News, ( assuming its good, and I believe it will be) we are heading straight towards to $1.00 SP
FYI the Niocorp News was released on Marketwire
Nice opening up to 75C 110K
I see your point ill take a $4 buyout and run

Yet again, our drilling program at Elk Creek continues to deliver impressive Niobium assays" said Mark Smith, CEO of Niocorp. "In our last release, we announced for the first time, results in excess of 3% material, and now we have found increased levels over 4%, confirming our belief that this truly is a world class deposit. Our continued parallel work with metallurgy has now completed in excess of 300 bench scale tests, and contracts are being negotiated for pilot plant work to commence as soon as possible".
Can a CEO sound more positive and confident??

KEARNEY — The Safety Center at the University of Nebraska at Kearney will receive a grant of $66,623 to provide on- and off-site training for Nebraska miners.
The funds are granted by The U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration and are part of a nationwide allocation of $8.3 million for health and safety training.
The funds will be used to provide federally mandated training to miners. The grant covers training and retraining of miners working at both surface and underground mines.
Grants were awarded based on applications from states, and they are administered by state mine inspectors’ offices, state departments of labor, and state-supported colleges and universities. Each recipient tailors the program to the needs of its mines and miners — including mining conditions and hazards miners may encounter — and also provides technical assistance.
The state grants program was authorized by the Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act of 1969. States first received funding to provide health and safety training to miners in 1971.
Yes Shawn does have options, I spoke him in June and he confirmed he did. I hope he keeps them for a while and Im sure he will. he was very knowledgeable and helped me understand the Niobium process more clearly

What does your post mean? Its unclear??
Final drill results are due anyday now, as per Mark Smith on BNN, if the deep drill results are better than expected, ( which I believe they will be) we will move into the .70's, i think the flow sheet is out by mid Sept and all those NDA's will be scheduling meeting with Mackie Research and Niocorp.Summer is almost over, and I cant wait for the Fall uptick on the Junior ventures market, combined with more positive news, we are over $1.00 by Dec 1st and more financing is in the works im sure
wow how many shares where traded????
where did you see that? i cant find it on the OTC? also big buys in the last 3o mins on the USA side and CDN side
Short positions have been reduced substancially again
Read below great Question and multipe responses on Niobium
Niobium outlook as per IAG
Excerpt from IAG's transcript below. Very encouraging outlook and good comparison with vanadium. IAG will make $100m in operating CF from Niobec this year... think they should spin Niobec into a separate entity, the stock price is affected by the drama surrounding POG too much.
Brett Levy - Jefferies
Hi, guys. Can you talk about the outlook? We like niobium pricing and everything else, but can you talk about supply threats and demand growth? And just talk a little bit about what you see the macros being in niobium going forward?
Carol Banducci - Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President It's Carol here. We continue to be very positive in terms of the outlook for Niobium. We saw the steel market improve by about 3.5% this year. We are seeing strong demand coming out of China and Asia but we sell all of our production. And the biggest challenge that we have right now is not being able to provide our customers with all the demand that they have. So we are able to sell all of our production. And as you saw, we have revised based on some of the trade permits that have been at the mill to be able to increase our production, our throughput and recovery which is increasing our sales for longer term and we are expecting the steel market to continue to improve and we expect to use of niobium to continue to rise. And the reason being is that, you are producing a high strength alloy steel and it allows the end user to consume less steel more cost effectively because you use less steel on the construction. So again we are seeing strong demand coming out of the automotive sector as they are being regulated to produce a lighter vehicle. We are seeing in the construction of pipeline, to again bring more integrity to pipelines making them stronger and obviously less likely to leak. And we are seeing it in construction and so we are seeing it with bridges and buildings. So we are very positive in terms of the outlook, and we see both growth on the steel side in terms of consumption but we are also expecting to see the amount of niobium used on a per ton basis to increase and we are already beginning to see trends in that area. So again it's a very attractive market and we expect it to continue to grow.
Steve Letwin - President, Chief Executive Officer, Director I guess the good thing, Brett, its Steve here, is we don't get a lot of pushback from the steel companies on the pricing because you have to use so little of it to have an impact. And the best example is in the manufacture of a vehicle today, $9 worth of niobium reduces the weight of a car by 100 kilogram. So it costs very little to do some very, very positive thing. The major, if you want to call it a threat, but it also can be a very positive is the producers themselves. And as you know, we have three of them, CBMM, us and Anglo American. And CBMM has been very, very good in making sure that prices stay strong. So that plus everything that Carol said, we have got a very positive outlook for the pricing.
Brett Levy - Jefferies Yes. It seems like there's a very fairly oligopolistic tendency within niobium. How about outlook from substitute products like vanadium or can you talk to a little bit of the dynamic between the two alloying elements and whether there's a supply threat there?
Carol Banducci - Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President Maybe I will just start and let me pass it over to Gord. Again, it's not one-for-one. You require two units of vanadium for one unit of niobium. And there are a lot of applications where you cannot apply the same, you can't apply vanadium to the production of the high strength alloy steel that our consumer or customers are looking for. So in many cases, it's not a straight substitute. You cannot substitute it and again the price dynamics is two-to-one. And there is a lot of stability around niobium. Prices are small which our customers like and again the steel has to get qualified for use. So there is a real barrier when any producer has to change the formula. Gord?

The other piece of about the vanadium market, we are cheering quite loudly for further development of the vanadium battery technology in the future, which could drastically change the dynamics around vanadium itself. So at the end of the day, it makes niobium that much more attractive
