Linda, I carry my PB's power supply with me. Most places by code have outlets spaced conveniently. Airplanes are another thing. I don't have and haven't tried one of those special power adapters. You?
Congrats to the present USA team America! The butcher of Bagdad is captured. Send him to Cuba!
Nickeltong: Scary China thing...
What I remember is all the Buddhist temples acting at the behest of China's Red Army; Lorrieal (sp) satellite thing, the funding of US presidential canditates, and the funding of my governor, Gary Loche. That was a real kick with those sworn to poverty, highly educated, religious monks handing Gary $10k cash each in paper bags. note: he gave it back.
Cotton: Re Puget Sound
Washington State traditional is last in/last out of any recessions or downturns. This time, the state was first in because of 911 and the internet bust.
We hear much happy talk about Boeing being less a factor in our over all economy in this state. However, the state put together a 3.5 billion dollar package to "win" the 7E7 program for Everett (Moses Lake was also an option). One has to wonder if the price tag is worth it.
Aircraft workers are depressed. Last week the inside news was the 7E7 will be build in Everett. This week the news is maybe not. Hell most of the plane will be built off shore. Many think it is possible for Being to be gone from the state in our life time.
Over all, I think Washington state is treading water. Government budgets don't seem to go down. Microsoft provides many jobs. Of course Microsoft isn't beyond shipping jobs to India, either.
PS: One copy and paste gets me into tws. I must be an expert!
Is this the dip before the Santa rally?
Linda: Lieberman probably made Florida as close as it was. Jews vote 90% + for demos. That is why the requests for re-counts in only three counties versus the whole state was pursued. If the demos had asked for a re-vote in the whole state, they would probably have got it. The Supremes got it right.
Another unspoken question is the morality of voting absentee in New York City and voting locally in Florida.
If the demos had been able to get a re-vote, Bill Daly was down there to make sure the dead people got their chance.
Herb who was an Episcopalian two months ago and is now an Anglican.
"Might help if he were a reformed alcoholic, though."
Funny statement, Linda. Sometimes you're almost as cynical as I. Actually, victimhood's golden era is coming to an end. Hopefully, there will be a move towards personal accountability.
What's the deal with aapl? I wish it would go up or down. Time is getting closer and closer to the Santa Claus rally. I expected a good dip before the rally, but now I don't know...
What do you think? Is Apple having a good first quarter? If it does, it might be hard to follow up. The second quarter is usually weak.
Roni is betting on gold. It's that inflation thing, isn't it Roni? The next thing you'll be telling us is it has something to do with the national debt. Where oh where have the good conservatives gone?
Bootz, hopefully the VirtualPC rumor is true. My wish list is for multiple monitor support and some kind of video hardware support.
OT: Lango, I actually agree with you on this one. Hillary is moving to the center (hawkish) before the primaries are over and Dean has a chance to do the same. When Dean turns to the high ground, Hillary will be there.
Gore's endorsement isn't likely to deliver Tenn. and Arkansas or any other part of the South. Dean still needs the rebs in the pick-ups. As much as I disrespect Gore politically for whoring himself carrying Bill's wet warm wash rag, I think he and Tipper are basically decent human beings. On a personal level, I think Bill's interning offended both.
Hillary is setting the table for 2008 while Dean is going bonkers with his tin hat theory's of Bush being in on 911. How can Bush be an idiot and set up something like that?
In other words, Hillary is betting on Shrub in 2004 and making sure the other Demos get chewed up in the process. At least she has a course of action, the rest of us can follow.
Linda, what fees does Waterhouse charge. I've got a check to deposit with someone. Quick & Reilly whacked me $43 for selling 300 shares of QQQ. Enough of that!
Whatta machine! PB 17"
Amen. Whatta machine. Even while home I use it 90 % of the time.
I'm seeing a surprising number of the G4 PB series in some of Seattle's free wireless coffee shops.
OT: Tom, what will you do with Plum Creek; PCL?
No matter how much I dislike Hillary, I admit she isn't dumb. She just used Dean and K-Man to make her appear main stream.
WinLoseOrDraw: "hillary in afghanistan? wtf for? she must be running after all..."
She is cutting Dean's throat. She is moving to the right. She is making sure she won't have any party opposition in 2008.
Today I'm so thankful Alpo Gorpo lost Tennessee.
Shrub and Hillary both know and understand 911 wasn't a good thing and America doesn't need to answer to the UN.
America is admired the world over except by the elitist whiners.
Okay, the November options are behind us. When do February and March make an appearance; or do they.
The third column: A vote for none of the bums.
Sold 5 aapl April 20 puts for 1.45 this morning.
OT: Obviously we have an army in Iraq and Afghanistan. From there we can see clearly Saudi. You must remember we had an occupational army in Germany for over 40 years. These things take time.
Lets also remember that time is running out on those 'haters of Jews and women." Russian oil will be hitting the US market in five years; big time. The Arab world hasn't been successful putting their petro dollars to work for their own people.
For an Arab, 911 wasn't a good thing.
A Jack Kennedy , a true cold warrior , would have a great chance beating Shrub. Where are the Henry Jackson democrats? Why can't the present crop see a clear and present danger and act accordingly. Why are all trying to be the next George McGovern (sp)?
OT: What ever! 911 was a horrible, horrible, horrible thing. It is better to do Jihad in Bagdad then New York, LA, or Portland. Any anti-war effort will fall apart with the next attack on US soil. All of the Islamist supporters should tell their buddies to keep the attacks in Bali, Turkey, Somalia, etc until after the elections. Another attack on US soil and Shrub can mail it in. No peace candidate will have a chance.
Dean or any other peace candidate might well run on that plank but, will not be bringing the troops home if elected.
OT: Manatee. The Jim Roger's article is in agreement with what I was saying.
A country uses cheap labor to sell the USA stuff. If they aren't buying stuff, services, or capital from the USA an imbalance will arise and there will be more dollars wanting to be that countries currency than the other way around.
As more dollars chase their currency, it will strengthen against the dollar and lo and behold their labor won't be cheap anymore. This happened in Japan.
There are other factors involved including political stability, taxation, and the legal justice system.
"Has anybody on this board ever wondered what would happen to our financial markets if foreign interests divested themselves of our debt. That's the fine line we walk as the trade deficeit continues to grow. "
Uncle Milton (Friedman, sp.) says not to worry. Floating the currencies takes care of these problems. Cashing in our dollars will strengthen theirs. If there is a rush on the bank, instead of 112 dollars buying 100 euros, it might take say 128 dollars to buy 100 euros.
Balanced trading keeps the currency valuations constant (over the long run). Japan is proud of selling more to the US then buying. The trouble is they can't convert their dollars to yen because they have more of ours than we of theirs. What they make in profit by selling they can lose in currency transactions.
My power. Yesterday I sell puts. Today aapl sinks below 20. Is it still true 'the trend is your friend'?
May have to sell some more puts and or buy some long shares.
20" iLamp
The above could be an eventual replacement for the "sounds like a 747 taking off" G4 desktop if it had DVI out for a second monitor.
Annie!
I sold 5 January 20 puts today at 1.00.
This was a test run through Interactive Brokers. Everything went smoothly. I hope no one in the coffee shop stole my passwords.
I wouldn't mind owning the shares with a cost of 19 if put to me.
Naz weak this morning; aapl strong. Why?
Cotton: Yes, I'm using Scottrader within IE and Java 1.4. The streamer works fine. After the latest Java update, I do seem to have to run the cursor over the Java window to get the streamer to display.
OT: Cotton. What does a prefix of 'C' before the Last Trade option price mean in IBW? No trade yet?
By the way, Expose is worth the Panther upgrade price. Sitting here in a free wireless coffee shop away from home and the screen real estate, Expose makes switching between IE with Scottrader, Safari with iHub, Terminal with IBW, Stickies with notes to self, and Mail a trivial exercise!
Paper will you be calling 'Another great buying opportunity'? 19, 18...?
re Call choices
Okay, I now understand where you're coming from; leverage without the time premium. Interesting.
I think you have a good chance to be okay on your trades. I'm still thinking aapl will go down more and then up before 1rst quarter earnings. Having a hard time getting in the right position to take advantage. It isn't going up enough or down enough so far.
IMHO, if you want aapl, we will be entering another great buying opportunity before New Years. Let's hope a selling opportunity will exist in the new year.
OT: I told you Demos last year to nominate Senator John Breaux
from Louisiana. Think about it. Do you want someone from a maple syrup dripping state or a good ole boy from an oil pumping state. Even though Louisiana has a horrible environmental compliance record, the greens will vote for him as the lesser of evils. Working people that aren't afraid to get their hands dirty will vote for him. The all important white trash vote that Dean can't figure out how to go after is a natural for Breaux. He'd even win Arkansas and Tennessee.
Dean has the nomination wrapped. That is why he is shifting focus to the American vote.
Your chance to win the presidency, however, remains only Breaux. Don't come whining to me next November. I told you so.
Linda, no, no, no...I'm not asking about opening a link in the foremost window. Click on one of your bookmark folders. A drop down menu opens with a list of bookmarks. How do you get one of these bookmarks to open as a tab? I know it is possible to open the whole folder in tabs but, I just want the one I select. Thanks.
Safari...
There must be a special button combination to hold down while opening a BOOKMARK to get it to open as a tab. I can't find the combination. Please help.
OT: Iraq billions
That is the price we pay to do Jihad in Islam's momma's back yard rather than New York, LA, and Portland. Well maybe not Portland...the Portland Intel Taliban pleaded guilty a couple of week ago.
Ron, I've spent over half of my life living below the poverty line. I may end up back there. Being poor is one thing. Being poor and drunk or poor and high is quite another. The only way you will cure childhood poverty is take children away from mothers that don't care. The Children's Defense League is in search of a mission.
OT: Ethanol
Ethanol was suppose to be the answer. It turns out to be nothing more than a tax on Joe Blow so some politician can buy the Iowa vote. It drives the cost of gas up, runs milage, and provides no benefit except to the corn farmer.
Jobs
Tom, taxes impose spending discipline on bureaucrats who have no restraint.
