About two months ago I spoke to someone on the sales line from engineering (apparently some pull such duty on a rotating basis) who told me that HP/Compaq would be offering 17" as well as Thin & Light laptops before the Christmas season. I am still waiting.
You might want to read the other responses. I found them to be more than adequate.
Cannot be too ugly, they have been shipping 90 nm mobile parts for about two months now. Do see and please commrnt on: http://www.siliconinvestor.com/stocktalk/msg.gsp?msgid=20540672
My son, who has a legacy based stuperstitious disdain for HP (and Compaq) computer products, continues to lobby against such a purchase. Are the HP DTR offerings first rate so far as quality and durability are concerned generally ?
(edited2 to Dan3 and sgolds) I have been slowly getting ready to purchase my own DTR. The hp zv5000z appears to be a very interesting choice. I expect to get it with the 3700+ processor for $200 more which would seem to be a no brainer. The people at 888-999-4747 tell me that it is more capable than the less feature laden Compaq R3000Z. For $50 extra it comes with a bright screen. There are several other higher screen resolution options. It can also be configured with a 5400 rpm 80 gig HD. The 12 cell battery for $25 also seems to make sense. The damn thing does weigh 2 or 3 pounds more than the Ferrari, but it is cheaper and more capable. Shopping for it is a lot of the fun; but, sooner or later I am going to pull the trigger and buy one...any thoughts ?.
Things are probably pretty busy in craigs and "the kickers" offices.
It probably will. intel will, no doubt, give them away for free or better (bribes can pave the way) and some out there will think that it is a good deal and build something based on it. It will be a dog but hey...free is free...or is it ?
Try power consumption, it should be less. Might be good for "thin and lights".
Stay toooooooooooooooooooooned
I think that you might want to call it a laptop workstation that does not roast nuts. Some out there might have a use for it.
BTW, why would anyone want to buy a high dollar 32 bit notebook that will certainly be all but obsolete in a year or so ? Other than to create new sales for dell in a year or so.
I thought that you might enjoy this DQ post on SI: http://www.siliconinvestor.com/stocktalk/msg.gsp?msgid=20531091
at this black tie party.
SMATTER ? You do not like soft ice cream ?
You are sounding more and more like you are actually getting a used Yugo.
Courtsey to Dan3 @ SI
deleted, Grimes beat me by 9 seconds,
I read that as well though I did not take as AMD having the same 90 nm heat problems that intel does...wish on inteLligentsia.
I have heard that Sager sucks. Check with Dan3, he might have something to say. It might well be worth waiting a couple of months or so for a deluge of new offerings. That is what I am doing.
dual core 64 bit...might be a stretch...of intellectual resources
How long.... Probably much longer than craig is telling michael.
dell, IM(notso)HO, may be far more interesting to watch.
Thank You (see the commercial)
inexplicable reason NAW...IBM is a very charitable operation. It has fostered much of what is tech today...and given it away. IBM is very nice :)
I love this statement: In these markets, price leadership -- offered by AMD - is more important than technology leadership.
This clown does not realize that AMD has both.
I'm really surprised IBM didn't put forth more of an effort to capture market share
You are surprised that IBM is not as nimble as its competitors...I am surprised at you.
Many of those guys (and gals) are going off to college and presumably have friends who are gamers.
Virtually every time that I read one of your posts I have to admire how well you have named yourself.
By the time intel is trying to peddle this chip, how many nitwits out there do you suppose will be willing to pay top dollar for a 32 bit whatever ?
Dissipative electrical losses are a function of both voltage and complex impedance. Setting voltage does not tell the entire story. The composition of this device is markedly different from the past devices. Tell me if I am missing something.
Why ? All of the rules are different. I think that you are concluding too much from too little.
Beastly Itanium delayed until Q4: IDF Fall '04 Slower, fatter: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/09/07/itanium_delayed_q4/ :)
JOB numero uno for an ANALyst is keeping job.
Some time before AMD's earnings per share exceeds its share price the common will start to move...up.
It has to come from HP, it will not come from AMD.
90nm laptops That huge sucking noise that you are hearing is HP (and Compaq) taking all that AMD is producing to fill its pipe. It is a rather large pipe, you know.
A thought worth considering: http://www.siliconinvestor.com/stocktalk/msg.gsp?msgid=20489516
When pauL (prenglE) used to get as negatively irrational as the chipguy seems to be, it usually was a bottom of some significance.
I just hope I'm not dead right when it happens.
Well, that depends on just where you choose to put the comma.
I, personally, hope that I am not dead, right when it happens; though I do hope that I am dead right, when it happens.
And, I am sure you will agree, it takes very little fewer sales to take earnings down. However, I do agree with you, no big surprise, I guess.
"peer perform" AMD has no peer.
I doubt it. It was very SI-FireFox specific. I went to Netscape and IE and had no difficulty with SI but along came all of the crap that I had gotten used to not having (pop-ups etc.) Everything else worked but I could not get to SI no matter how I tried. I rebooted and all was back to normal.
I just experienced my first FireFox problem. I have been blocked from SI for about half of a day. I rebooted and it went away.
