the difference is keith is stating his honest opinion where as you're knowingly stating an untruth just to make a point (a completely pointless one i might add)
but we're not comparing white box vs ibm. the comparison was between ibm vs hp which still has a pretty good name the "pretexting" shenanigans notwithstanding.
for ibm it's certainly a good deal but you seem to think so too.
and it costs more than 2x. i'm sure in your planet that's a good deal.
Any chance your Conroe performance is unsatisfactory because you're using an early Conroe, with some workaround for the cache erratum published much earlier?
And, I hate to ask it, but why would you buy such an early Conroe with the seriousness of the cache erratum? Conroe seems to be nice, but I think I would wait until that erratum had been resolved. Otherwise, every time the system locked up, I'd be wondering if that was the cause.
first you ask a question which is reasonable but then you assume that the answer is yes and then chastise him for his "decision". just doesn't make sense. do you have esp ?
Especially when that momentum runs out.
when do you suppose that's going to happen ?
chips coming after 2010 and has anyone seen the UCSB agreement with intel ? i doubt it's exclusive.
Given the rumours of greatly reduced price discounting that
Dell receives for Intel components one has to wonder about
the real dollar impact of the loss of some Dell sockets to AMD.
lol, this has to be the most hilarious spin i've heard since "american's are dying at the gates of bagdad". good work.
According to SG Cowen, Intel may go the route of the Korean chip makers, which procure equipment from many vendors and beat them up on price.
i wonder how amd does this?
thanks.
i have no doubt you know what you're talking about. now what i need to figure out is when the lock-up (is that the term?) on the converted stock lifts.
I googled thinkequity's website and the last posted anal of AMD was 10 months ago. The "authors" don't seem to be listed on ThinkEquity's research website.
Eric Ross is the 4th person listed here:
http://thinkequity.com/research/team.html
Eddie Cheung is indeed missing but from a general google it seems he was associated with thinkequity. Seems suspect.
there are not that many ways to architect an x86 core. every so often someone comes up with a really smart idea but it's still an add-on to an existing design.
I am a social liberal and an economic and political Conservative.
Someone said that's just a cheap Liberal. :)
someone said that's just a cheap shot; even with the smiley which can't smell.
That's a completely different issue.
sure it's. having started the comparison when it's taken further "it's a completely different issue" as you don't like it.
intel had to rely on an isolated group on the other side of the world to get its new architecture. i bet you're not in haifa.
Nonsense
so that's why intel's new low power architecture looks so much like p4... oh, sorry my mistake; it doesn't. it looks like k7. maybe intel learned a few tricks on how to design a low power x86 core from amd after all. it's nice to see that they've even made some improvements.
microarchitecture may effect higher leakage by forcing the implementor use low vt devices much more extensively than a different one would. p4 was certainly one of those architectures.
One might as well argue that brain cells don't function as well within heads covered in blond hair.
wasn't there a ussc decision which said something similar about a different color?
one reason to have 64 bit cpu running vista 64 is vista 64 gives each 32 bit app a full 4g virtual address space as opposed to 2g (or 3g with a special flag) so you get twice the address space to do your work. i have two programs which run certain tasks to completion in vista 64 but not in xp for this reason.
AMD now selling chips made by Chartered

90nm now; 65nm in 07.
i just upgraded my existing machine to an x2 amd cpu but i am really looking forward to an apple macbookpro with merom. apple just makes gorgeous hardware and i am thinking about replacing my r4000 with 1920x1200 notebook. i wish they had wuxga displays though.
look more carefully: your first reference says
Pdc = VddIsubn where Isubn = K3e^(K4Vdd)e^(K5Vbs). It's quite exponential as you can see when you substitute Isubn ie
Pdc = VddK3e^(K4Vdd)e^(K5Vbs)
but your explanation is like "if you count a tail as a leg, a horse would have 5 legs" which is obviously non-sense so is your claim that if you want to run at higher frequencies you have to increase voltage so power is v^2*f = v^3.
you said "For a given processor in a given process power will tend to rise at least as fast as the cube of frequency." i guess we can agree that dynamic power goes up linearly with frequency. where does the "cube of frequency" come from ?
btw, how did you come up with leakage varying with the cube of the frequency?
I didn't.
so, you have a reference for it?
let me give you the benefit of the doubt and clarify something. do you mean sub-threshold leakage or gate leakage which is exponential. to me gate leakage is mainly dependent on oxide thickness and linear with vdd. subthreshold leakage is exponential wrt the voltage.
btw, how did you come up with leakage varying with the cube of the frequency?
to use windbag term, you girls seem to like this butt-slapping among yourselves. the interesting thing about amd warning is that right now intc seems to be lower %wise than amd. what's up with that?
who the f*** are you, windbag? another butt-slapping intelligentsia? your buddies aren't doing a good job so you came to rescue?
i think it came pretty late to have much after hours transactions. pre tomorrow morning would be more indicative.
do you think any chance we'll see teens tomorrow ? i thought after q2 maybe a good time to buy but maybe it's even earlier.
funny i don't remember getting a post from him ever. on the other hand you seem to be the plaything running around. did you ever wonder why that is? i think it's because you look easy.
Chipguy is exactly right.
of course he is; is there any other possibility ?
you also know that it takes two to tango.
as i mentioned before all this butt-slapping between the intelligentsia is quite cute; keep it up.
you can't hide behind that satire/sarcasm bs. you obviously had a group of "brotha"s in mind when you said that as you have no idea what race i am either. as in the investment case, you are not even aware of your own internal biases.
Re: you need to ask that question to one of the "brotha" you know.
Now who would that be?
how would i know? you're the one using that term, not me remember?
Do you know for example what race I am? In context, maybe it's *you're* response that's racist! LOL.
you were talking about someone needing to go back to college ? some remedial english seems in order.
you need to ask that question to one of the "brotha" you know.
i love this but-slapping among the "intel"ligentsia; keep it up.
Thanks for the eju-ma-kation, brotha!
not only are you an idiot, you are a racist idiot as well. good for you.
you're the idiot who claimed 13 is as good as better than 14. no matter how hard you try with your stupid assumptions you can't make it better. and you're further an idiot because you're completely dismissing the possibility that it could be 12.5 vs 14.4 where the difference is %13. i am just trying to make you aware of your basic bias but you're too dumb to realize it.
An additional significant digit would be required.
and what do you do when you don't get one? you just say "oh, well i don't have enough info so i'll just assume 13 is as good or better than 14" very smart for a college boy like you.
Tell me one good reason why I would want to take advice from you.
see above.
