Biotech Stocks on the Verge of Breakouts: Star Scientific
BY Roberto Pedone | 02/20/14 - 06:00 AM EST
.
DELAFIELD, Wis. (Stockpickr) -- These three biotech stocks are within range of triggering breakout trades.
Star Scientific (STSI_) engages in the development, manufacture, sale, and marketing of nutraceutical dietary supplements and consumer products. This stock closed up 4.9% to 75 cents per share in Wednesday's trading session.
Wednesday's Range: $0.70-$0.77
52-Week Range: $0.55-$2.59
Thursday's Volume: 1.46 million
Three-Month Average Volume: 1.54 million
From a technical perspective, STSI jumped sharply higher here and broke out above some near-term overhead resistance at 73 cents per share with decent upside volume. This stock has been downtrending badly over the last four months and change, with shares moving lower from its high of $2.59 to its recent low of 55 cents per share. During that downtrend, shares of STSI have been consistently making lower highs and lower lows, which is bearish technical price action. That said, shares of STSI have started to reverse that downtrend and enter a new uptrend. This spike on Wednesday is quickly pushing shares of STSI within range of triggering another near-term breakout trade. That trade will hit if STSI manages to take out Wednesday's high of 77 cents to more resistance at 80 cents per share with high volume.
Traders should now look for long-biased trades in STSI as long as it's trending above some key near-term support levels at 69 cents to 65 cents per share and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 1.54 million shares. If that breakout hits soon, then STSI will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at 90 cents to its 50-day moving average at 98 cents per share.

There is no confusion my twice a year blood results speaks volumes to me as does how I feel every moment of the day. I have zero dosage problems. Bottom line is Anatabloc works perfectly for me.
The solution to that is take the time release at night(assuming 12 hour version) and the lozenges during day. I am totally stocked up for two years so it makes no difference to me.

When will STSI enter?????
ECIGS JV will be huge !!! Excellent Post
0. Been told in the future have been in talks with tobacco companies about at some point licensing anatabine for ECigarette's.
A slightly biased health review of Anatabloc. Try posting a review to it. Notice the comments and the time they were made.

Leif keep up all the great work you do. Ignore the noise.
Won't it be nice when dosage is not an issue. I take 15 a day and that seems to be about right for me. The time release will change things....
She really should focus on Anatabloc and anatabine for ecigs.

Amazing that she would not be aware of anatabine. E-cigs with only nicotine make little sense. I know people that go to e-cigs and begin taking Anatabloc at the same time.
One contract of supplying anatabine to ecig company would be all it takes to be off to the races. We all know that Patrick Cox tried a ecig with anatabine in it in 2012 that he described as wonderful. What happened to it?
Thanks for the report !!!!
Thanks. Anyone seen any TV spots or heard radio spots last 6 days?
If they did stop media advertising how would that impact the bottom line?
"Of note one thing the letter did not say was to stop selling Anatabloc. This is apparently not currently in the cards. The letter also did not find fault with the TV ads, that I saw."

Star Scientific has filed what’s called an investigational new drug application, or IND, claiming its studies have demonstrated a product called anatabine can actually help prevent damage from concussion and TBI.

'We first learned from the military about a product being marketed to treat TBI, obviously a concern with wounded veterans. We were taken aback that anyone would make a claim that a supplement could treat TBI, a hot-button issue,' says Jason Humbert, a senior regulatory manager with FDA's Office of Regulatory Affairs. 'That sparked our surveillance.'
One company, Star Scientific, has filed an investigational new drug application, or IND, that claims its product anatabine can 'alleviate the negative consequences of traumatic brain injury (TBI).'
'We're very concerned that false assurances of faster recovery will convince athletes of all ages, coaches and even parents that someone suffering from a concussion is ready to resume activities before they are really ready,' says Gary Coody, FDA's National Health Fraud Coordinator.
Anatabine is being marketed as a treatment for TBI, but being sold as a dietary supplement in the form of Anatabloc.
Under law, a dietary supplement may not contain an ingredient that has already been submitted for investigation as a drug."
What is really strange is that the Department of Defense was co-sponsoring some of the Traumatic Brain Injury studies using Anatabine SEE http://tinyurl.com/qg2qy76

Did not the Department of Defense co-sponsor some of the studies being done regarding TBI and antabine? This happens to be Dr. Mullan's area of expertise and he must have the contacts in the Department of Defense.
Congrats !! Hopefully a quarterly dividend program !! Those coupons would be worth something to product users.... The company has no tax E&P so such a product dividend would be deemed a return of capital :)

Notes from Annual Meeting
Dr. Mullan : Pursuing phamaceuticals "with a vengeance." Focus will be on diseases caused by inflammation. Sarasota new HQ. (Administrative will remain in VA per other personnel)
Me: Regarding Alzheimer's I don't get the impression the company will make this a focus. Dr. Mullan said something to the effect that to run trials the patient must age 18 years?
Dr. Wright (by phone): Endocrinologists quite pleased with thyroid results. CRP levels dropped in diabetic individuals, change in cardiac risk not proved. Tobacco licensing depends on FDA.
Paul Perito: No change in the way funds are raised. In response to shareholder questions on partnerships: No premature disclosure. Company has a fiduciary responsibility to follow up on inquiries. (Companies are aware of the product).
David Dean: No price decrease for Anatabloc (may go to smaller quantities for those wanting to try the product). Skin care line priced in the middle market range. GNC quite pleased with the arrangement. They do not charge a slotting fee and provide all promotional displays in store. Star pays for all advertising. GNC in The Villages, FL sells 160 (one hundred and sixty) bottles per month. Nancy Lopez is very popular there. He has been in touch with other retailers and the product will eventually be offered at the big names. GNC had exclusive on the product for the first year. New "Brand Ambassadors" will be coming (looking at different sports). Time release this summer.
This is so interesting. Means we still are not taking enough. I take it hourly so I can spread it out. If one is just starting on anatabloc need to ramp up dosage. It will be good when dosage is no longer an issue.
"I was listening to Mr. Dean’s response to someone else’s question and he talked about coming out with a “trial” size of Anatabloc for sale. I spoke up and voiced my concern that it takes 4 to 6 weeks to see results for some people. He replied that it was taking so long to see results because we still were not taking enough. I said well I take 4, 3 times per day. He said that was still not enough for someone my size. He said that the time released version will have 6 mg of anatabine that will release over 6 to 8 hours. It sounds like there will be an increase in the recommended dosage at some poi

Silvercorp Notes Regulators Allege Fraud in Action against Short Seller Jon Carnes
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Dec. 20, 2013) - Silvercorp Metals Inc. (TSX:SVM)(NYSE:SVM) ("Silvercorp" or the "Company") stated that it is pleased to see that the Executive Director of the British Columbia Securities Commission ("BCSC") has issued a notice of hearing alleging fraud on the part of Jon Richard Carnes, an individual who ran a hedge fund and operated the "Alfred Little" financial blog through which attacks were made on Silvercorp. The Company also received confirmation that the BCSC is stopping its investigation into Silvercorp.
The BCSC Notice alleges that beginning in 2010, Carnes began writing negative reports about issuers traded on a North American exchange with business operations in China. Carnes attempted to profit from his negative reports by shorting the issuer's securities before publishing the negative report, and then covering his short position after the issuer's share price dropped in response to his negative report.
BCSC staff contends that in about June 2011, Carnes targeted Silvercorp as the next issuer he would try to profit from by issuing a negative report. On August 15, 2011, Carnes began building a short position in Silvercorp's shares by purchasing put options that expired on September 17, 2011.
In the notice, BCSC staff alleges that Carnes attempted to find a mining expert to support his theory that Silvercorp's Chinese filings contradicted its North American regulatory filings for the Company's SGX mine, as the Chinese filings had lower production, quality and resource estimates. When two mining experts failed to support his theory and with his put options about to expire, staff maintains that Carnes wrote a false negative report about Silvercorp and published it anonymously on September 13, 2011 on Alfredlittle.com, a financial blog controlled by Carnes.
BCSC staff further allege that Carnes furthermore made numerous false claims about the second mining expert to support his theory, including that the expert had "serious concerns" about the reliability of Silvercorp's North American filings. In reality, the second mining expert did not note any "blatant obvious errors" or misleading information and had explained that the differences between the Chinese filings and the North American filings were due to different reporting standards and different legislated cut-off grades.
After Carnes published his report on AlfredLittle.com, Silvercorp's share price closed down 20% for the day, wiping out over $275 million in shareholder value. Carnes closed his short position in Silvercorp's shares by the next day, earning a gross profit of almost USD $2.8 million.
You may view the notice of hearing on the BCSC website at www.bcsc.bc.ca by typing Jon Richard Carnes or 2013 BCSECCOM 559 in the search box. These allegations have not been proven.
The Company has always maintained that it was attacked by a group of well-organized and well planned illegal short sellers trying to profit by manipulating Silvercorp's share price with false and selective statements, fabrications, and rumors. We are pleased to see that regulators in British Columbia are taking action to protect and promote the public interest by fostering a securities market that is fair and warrants public confidence.
Thanks. Tell him to up his dosage to 8-10. Difference is huge....
Time release version we will no longer worry about dosage and receive benefit during night.
Director Ralph Everett was awarded 50,000 options at $ 1.25
Leif Have you heard from Patrick Cox on this? Thank you. This would be game changer.
E-Cig prototype
Last November 2012
"Patrick Cox reports that he was given a few prototype e-cigarettes and found that they were "simply extraordinary." -- satisfying as tobacco with no harm. "... anatabine/nicotine e-cigarettes could put an end to ... cigarette smoking."
Star will not make such cigarettes, but could benefit from use of anatabine citrate by BT."
Whatever happened to this? This would be market killer. Some company was testing anatabine in e-cig for Patrick Cox to try.
A joint venture with Star licensing the anatabine would have a profound impact on Star.
Congrats... You figured it out already.... It took me a year.....
"have been taking about 15 a day ..about 1 an hour..."
Understood but how can you not want the benefit of time release while sleeping? The difference is going to be dramatic.
Try taking a single Anatabloc more often during day. Especially before and immediately after match.
Athletes I know who say run 8 miles a day take 10-14 day even though they weigh 160 pounds.
Anatabloc Tip Timing is Important
http://anatabloc.com/2012/12/quck-tip-timing-is-important/
When the time release version is out we will not need to worry about dosage. Cannot wait to have Anatabloc benefit while sleeping.
In 2011 I spent over $ 2000 at LEF and was in shock when I totaled it after starting on Anatabloc in 2012. I have purposedly cut it down to a couple hundred after they ignored my comments and requests on Anatabloc. So be it. They must be concerned because they have really focused on inflammation the last year. Big time focus. I am disappointed also.
"I can think of no reason for LEF not to cover anatabine."
Look at January 2014 magazine edition of LEF Cytokine Suppress TM EGCG and Mung Beans and Brain Damage Reversed in Former NFL Players. Everything but anatabine.
IMHO I don't think so and I like LEF !!
Good Story. I know people who run 8 miles a day and take couple before/during/after.
I wonder if 12 is not the magical number. I take it hourly to achieve 12. Such a huge difference from original six.
Imagine the benefit of having time release version throughout the night......

I believe the time release version will be a game changer. Imagine antabine working while sleeping and not having to take your Abloc. It will be dramatic for all.
Excellent summary !! Expecially the endometriosis paragraphs. I have tried to reach out to Nancy. Hopefully you have also.
I believe we need to bring hundreds of testimonials to our new thread monitor for review and critigue.
Ive been taking this for a month now because I read so many positive personal comments and reviews online and although there are plenty of skeptics, many of the skeptical comments however did disclose disbelief although these skeptics haven't tried it--all conjecture.
I was diagnosed with severe malnutrition from an eating disorder (alternating anorexia with bulimic symptoms) where my blood serum levels showed that my healthy fats were extremely low and my vitamin D levels were non-existent among other things (my endocrinologist put me on prescription grade ergocalcifer at 50,000 units prescribed every other day for about 4 weeks. The pharmacist who filled my prescription stood there gaping in disbelief at me during the pharmacist consult cause it was pretty low). I suspect this theoretically works particularly for those who have some sort of nutritional deficiency caused by disease or just plain nutritional deficiency, because of the vitamin A, D3, and anatabine (found in veggies or what my chef friend calls a fruit, tomatoes) my psychiatrist (a famous med school dean of psychiatry) and endo doctor believe that my erratic eating habits along with antidepressants (ssri's like paxil and Prozac) turned on a biological predisposition resulting in my pre-diabetic (elevated blood glucose serum levels) and slightly overactive thyroid condition (doc is concerned because he says my thyroid is working harder above normal levels) that theyve been watching my blood serum levels since spring of this year.
Although it may too be too early and confusing to tell if the Anatabloc is working, during the last two weeks, well-- I haven't felt this great in years! Probably not for about 8 years since my mid 20's. What I notice is the marked drop in depression and anxiety for the last two weeks and I don't feel so exhausted off 4+ hours of sleep. Being one who enjoys sleeping in, I feel it is really weird for me to have so much energy on the day following a lousy night of sleep.
It can be a costly drug/pharmaceutical supplement or whatever, but I guess that also is a factor dependent on your height and weight, where a smaller/petite person takes 6 daily VS. 12 pills for the heavier and/or taller folks. I got my first bottle which I'm still going through via GNC when they were having a sale (30% off pretty much everything online storewide). Also have a 30 day return policy but I haven't felt compelled to return the Anatabloc.
Also a quick note about my understanding of diseases in general is that inflammation is the root cause of many if not all disease. In essence, I believe that vitamin deficiencies and improper nutrition causes disease through inflammation, not just due to just genetics going awry. From my many doctors visits, my understanding is that deficiencies occurring from improper care of oneself forces the body to keep going on whatever it can get; sort of like driving a car with one of the wheels being a flat perhaps) stressing your bodily systems out and causing malfunction.
I'd like to hear other people's experiences from actually taking Anatabloc, not just from this who argue staunchly against on simply the belief that it sounds too good to be true.
Agreed. But I believe your testimony is one of the best I have ever seen. Just need to get others to use the product. We need to be on twitter in force. Fighting the shorts is a complete waste of time.
Still predicting Thyroid results by "Februrary" ???? Your insight is spot on.
