Trade groups for Hollywood movie studios and major recording companies plan to begin testing new technology to block unauthorized online file-sharing on the high-speed "Internet2" network that connects universities researching the next-generation Internet.
The Recording Industry Association of America and the Motion Picture Association of America said recently that they have become corporate members of the networking consortium and plan to collaborate with its members to find new ways of distributing digital content online while also protecting copyrighted material.
Internet2 boasts speeds hundreds of times faster than the Internet.
The entertainment industry groups began suing students accused of illegally distributing copyrighted songs and films across the private research network this year.
Kenco,
You know earlier I wasn't as irritated with your posts. Now that I see you moderate the MVSN board, I feel a little different. HMMMMMMM
I hope you post all of our wonderful news posts on your board. Everyone should be aware of their competitor's accomplishments and future potential. Best of luck and we need to play fair.

Sony BMG also uses a separate copy-protection technology from Sunncomm Technologies. Previous copy-protected CD schemes have been quickly defeated, including one instance in which computer users cracked Sony's "Key2Audio" technology by scribbling on a disc with a felt-tip marker.

Music copy roadblock is targeting CD buyers

Sony BMG, the world's second-largest music company, is rolling out CDs with new technology that serves as a "speed bump" to hinder people who want to make illicit copies.
Users will be allowed to make three additional CD copies for their own use and store the music files on their computer in a protected format from Microsoft.
Sony BMG's new copy-protection effort comes with at least one downside: PC users are unable to transfer the songs to Apple's popular iPod portable music player, because Apple won't make its software compatible with Microsoft's Windows Media digital rights management system.

The copy-protection technology is also far from ironclad. Apple Macintosh users currently face no restrictions. What's more, if users go to a Web site to complain about the lack of iPod compatibility, Sony BMG will send them an e-mail with a "back door" measure on how to work around the copy protection.
A UK firm, First4Internet, which created the technology, said the primary goal is not to prevent copies of the songs from ending up on illicit, peer-to-peer file-trading networks, which the industry blames for millions of dollars in lost sales.
Instead, it aims to dissuade people from burning unlimited CD copies in what is sometimes called "schoolyard piracy."
"This technology is a speed bump. It's trying to dissuade the average consumer from making as many copies as they like," said Mathew Gilliat-Smith, First4Internet's chief executive.
"You're not going to stop tracks getting on P2P sites," he added. "It's designed to stop casual piracy. ... It's not saying you'll stop people from doing it, but it makes people stop and think."
Sony BMG also uses a separate copy-protection technology from Sunncomm Technologies. Previous copy-protected CD schemes have been quickly defeated, including one instance in which computer users cracked Sony's "Key2Audio" technology by scribbling on a disc with a felt-tip marker.
Roughly 2 million of the CDs using the First4Internet protection have been sold since March in the United States.
Gilliat-Smith said a version of the copy-protection technology that works with Apple Macintosh computers is on the way and that the music companies are in talks with Apple about iPod compatibility.
"The whole industry is in discussions with Apple, and we hope to have a solution soon," he said.
Sony BMG is a joint venture between Sony and German company Bertelsmann.

Randy, if this is truly the bottom around .031, everyone will be thrilled. Otherwise they join the pi$$ed camper club real fast. Wishing best to all of us in this venture.
As I turn another year older this weekend, I pray that our stock will grow up with me.
Happy 4th and remember to celebrate our freedom.

Local Technology Company Strikes Gold with America’s Best Selling Music CDs!
Gold, Platinum, or Double-Platinum selling CDs from Dave Matthews, Foo Fighters, The Backstreet Boys and Velvet Revolver all include content protection and enhancement technology called MediaMax™
For Local Release
Phoenix, AZ July 1, 2005 – Technology developed by a small Phoenix-based technology company has been discovered by some of the world’s biggest selling musical artists.
The company, SunnComm International (OTC: SCMI), took on the challenge to develop technology that, once placed on an audio CD, would limit the number of CD copies the consumer could make. Quietly at work in offices located at the Chinese Cultural Center in Phoenix, the reception to its technology by artists and record companies has been anything but quiet. Today, MediaMax can be found on some of the top current Billboard hit releases including “Never Gone” from The Backstreet Boys and “In Your Honor” from Foo Fighters, which just last week, debuted at #2 and #3 on the charts, respectively. Both releases are already well on their way to becoming Gold-selling CDs!
“MediaMax’d” Dave Matthews Band release “Stand Up” has hit Gold and is on its way to becoming a Platinum-selling album as well. Velvet Revolver’s “Contraband” reached the #1 spot on Billboard's Top 200 Album Chart and has achieved Double-Platinum status by selling more than 2 million units. Other Gold, Platinum and Double-Platinum selling albums include Anthony Hamilton’s Platinum CD, “Comin’ From Where I’m From” and J-Kwon’s Gold Album “Hood Hop.”
SunnComm, along with its marketing arm, MediaMax Technology (OTCBB:MMXT), have worked to include its technology on over 100 commercially released CD titles across more than 30 record labels. “Our technology is successful because our small company is primarily composed of people who love music,” says Peter Jacobs, SunnComm’s prez. “MediaMax adds some incredible features to a standard CD while it guides people into becoming more responsible when it comes to the number of additional copies of the CD they can make. Our ultimate goal is to have people looking for the MediaMax name or service mark on CDs they consider purchasing.”
Both SunnComm International and MediaMax Corp. earn royalties for every disc manufactured containing its proprietary copy management and enhancement software. In just five years, SunnComm International Inc. (OTC:SCMI) has become the leader in digital content enhancement and security technology for audio compact disc media. MediaMax was recently featured nationally on The Howard Stern radio show.

I wish we could get an idea of what is really going on behind the scenes. We all know to watch the tape - it is telling us something. We just dont know what. This is last day of quarter? Wonder how H Stern feels paying so much higher for his 5 million shares. Probably not any happier then the rest of us. Please, is there an answer here?
I keep buying a little at a time thinking this is the bottom.

Indianapolis (IN) - A simple mechanical way for Windows users to defeat SunnComm's MediaMaxx copy protection scheme, used widely in audio CDs produced by Sony BMG, is being offered on request via e-mail by SunnComm itself, the company's vice president of marketing and sales, Scott Stoegbauer, told Tom's Hardware Guide today.
Berg,
Congrats and may she be your sunshine on cloudy days and your laughter when you are sad. Enjoy and God bless.
Spenny,
Congrats on your up and coming wedding. How much time do we have to get this stock going higher so you can really celebrate? Wishing all of us shareholders success.
Also wishing you all a very safe memorial weekend. Lets not forget what we are celebrating this weekend. Best to all.
Just arrived home (6PM). My proxy for SCMI was at my door - UPS next day air. Thanks Sunncomm for delivery. Good luck everyone. Hope everyone received theirs today.
Regards
You know Grandma, we are all down as much as you are. Your constant snide negative remarks aren't helping the stock at all. If you have found something interesting about this company or the copy protect industry to post, we would all truly appreciate it. Otherwise, you are taking our time since we have to use our 'clicker' to go thru all posts. Thanks for posting some positive news, comments or findings. Best of luck to all us shareholders. To a great meeting tomorrow. Thanks for keeping us informed after meeting. Wish I could have joined you. Regards.
ok, what is your definition of 'long term'? Merger is June, then what timing? thanks
I spoke with Ameritrade today regarding my proxy. They had checked into the matter and they also had no notifcation of any shareholders meeting. They had no info and therefore had nothing for me. This is the strangest situation. E-trade, then Ameritrade. There are many shareholders that wont even realize their proxys wont be arriving and their votes wont be included. This is a first. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what is going on? Hoping for everything being legitimate. As SCMI price drops, it makes me nervous also.
Regards and best wishes to all shareholders.
Waxie, please call SCMI headquarters for yourself. We all are adults and can take care of that part. I was told we will receive them in time. I will call again today. We are all looking for the proxys.
I spoke with SCMI this morning re proxys. I was told we will have them on time, we will be receiving them real soon. Last remark was "It is going to be a very good year". On that note, we again wait. To all of us faithful holders, good luck. M
My order was taken in 5000 increments today. Guess that is their way of filling them. Best of luck to all of us.
Same53, we do share what we have learned from management. Anything that is sent to you is not private. Please feel free to post your questions and answers. You may have been told something someone in here is not aware of. We are all in this investment to prosper. Yes, we respect Peter for attention he has given his shareholders. This is a very difficult time and we all hold him up at this time. Again we extend our sympathies to Peter. There is no one in this world that can replace our mothers. I hope each and everyone of you remember to tell your mothers how much you love them, while we still have the chance. Be safe and good investing to all.
Mine shows zero trades. (QTIG)
Stern loves making $$$$ too.
I plan to attend open house if all is well on the home front.
