Well for some surgeons that currently use daVinci it would be an important differentiation. Also, if there is anticipation for Titan to eventually offer tactile/haptic feedback, I would assume some hospitals might hold off on purchasing SPORT until the technology is available.
Right - makes sense!
Thanks for verifying. Ive heard people outside this board say it too. A know a daVinci surgeon that is under the impression SPORT will have haptic feedback. It will be a huge advancement if/when it becomes available. Was that part of the original Amadeus design? Hopefully Titan can incorporate it in future SPORT models - before other companies offer it in their platforms.
I keep hearing about haptic feedback. I thought the first generation SPORT will not offer this technology?
Of course at a premium!
I'm probably in the minority but I'm not adverse to a buyout before or soon after approval if the conditions are right.
Good point re litmus test!
They will certainly try! They've been in this game a long time and will not take competition lightly.
And THAT is a great point and one Ive mentioned in the past... DO NOT discount corporate "politics" and "favors" to stymie approval. Intuitive has deep pockets and influence. Everything could go exactly as planned and yet the FDA decides to delay approval for whatever reason. It happens in Pharma all the time...Just ask former Schering-Plough employees about the Clarinex launch!
lol, LTG loves to stir the pot!
Apparently the link doesn't work but here's the gist...
Merck research chief says the firm is open to more deals • 3:57 PM
At an investors meeting in Los Angeles, Merck (MRK -0.9%) EVP and President, Merck Research Laboratories Roger Perlmutter, M.D., Ph.D., says the company will consider large acquisitions as way to expand its product portfolio rather than obtain drug-development technologies. He says Merck continues to have an appetite for deals following its recent buy of Idenix (IDIX +0.3%) for $3.85B.
Perhaps my old employer will throw their name into the M/A hat?

All of a sudden their is a M/A rumor? People sometines get a little carried away on this board.
Strongly agree it's highly unlikely the talks of a deal are going to be released to posters on an iHub message board.
It will happen folks, just go on with your lives, Milestones first... have patience, it will happen.
That's exactly how I look at it! We choose to take the risk. We are hedging our bets that Titan Mgt does everything it can to maximize the value of their product/company. I don't feel "entitled" to anything. I know the risk going in!
Sounds like a few Pharma companies were making a play. Just the scenario we want IF Titan goes the MA route.
A Titan M&A rumor will blow this stock up!
I concur!
lol... well this board has pretty much jumped the shark!
...plus, "cancer" is a broad category of disease. There are hundreds of different types.
That sounds great! The results don't mean it is a "cure.". Some people have the same results from gold standard chemotherapy. As the article states, more subjects need to enroll in clinical trials. People go into remission all the time! There would have to be a significant reduction of cancer cells over a period of at least five years to be considered a "cure."
As a clinical research auditor in Pharma... and one who works on oncology studies... I will have to go on record to say (IMO) there will not be a "cure" for cancer any time soon. Cold laser therapy is, at most, an efficacious option/addition to therapeutic treatment.
Start a consulting/analyst firm Point!
FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!! Great job Point!!!!!!!!!!!!
I concur!
note... this is an investigator initiated trial and not sponsored by Intuitive Surgical.
Ongoing daVinci cholecystectomy trial...
http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01855308?term=robotics+cholecystectomy&rank=2
I think Flenderson's point is that Titan could sell at a premium even before commercialization.
I've thought the same thing. If I was one of the other mid-size companies wanting to be a player in the robotics market, I'd certainly consider taking a chance on Titan early.
Stakes just got higher. More competition in the near future and Honey is right, there could be an aggressive play for Titan by a handful of companies. Titan MUST stay on track with milestones!!!
Thanks Point! Looking forward to reading your write-up for Seeking Alpha!
Looks to be recovering. 2015 can't get here fast enough for this stock!
WSJ Online has been posting some of this info as well. Old news is still good news if it reaches investors that are unaware! Im getting more aggressive with Titan updates on Twitter and Facebook myself.
Agree!!!
Yes, I'm sure they are. It will definitely be intetesting. Personally if Titan does get taken out, I hope it's one of the smaller device companies.
As far as the theory that JH can get a lucrative consulting gig with any major pharma/device company, IMO that is far-fetched. First, with the potetntial of SPORT it is in his financial interest to have his name and position as CEO of associated with the company that developed and brought it to market. Once a company like JnJ owns it, it's theirs. He doesn't benefit JnJ in a consultant capacity because he will have not had success marketing SPORT and his previous credentials aren't THAT impressive that he's worth a lucrative consulting gig. Plus the rest of management WILL NOT part with their "baby" so that JH can have a cushy consultant gig. Stakeholders would run him out of town. A seasoned CEO like a Fred Hassan could pull it off, but JH? Highly unlikely.
I dont want to sound like I'm bashing him. He seems like a competent choice for CEO of a small device company. This is some serious on-the-job executive training and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He has alot to prove as a CEO before a company like JnJ would throw him a bone like that. He seems like an honorable, ethical and humble guy too. I guess we shall see.
Honey/Chicken, Speaking for myself... I'm not criticizing either of you for your persistence on the (lack of) PRs. It's a valid concern and it appears most of the others agree too. I concur!!!!! Public companies should understand they have a duty to keep their stakeholders informed. Also, agree that the tough questions should be asked when things stagnate like they have lately.
We all have our own ideas on how this investment should work out. I come to this board mostly to discuss and analyze released information and current movement of the stock. As Ive said at least a dozen times before (as have others) right now this is a development-stage company in its infancy. If one reads the bios of the management team one should conclude there are deficiences in experience in certain areas and enormous strengths in others. The most glaring deficiency to me is that NONE of the Titan executives have actually run a company. I have trust in J Hargrove but realize he has alot to learn. Being head of corporate accounts for a JnJ offshoot doesn't necessarily translate into successful management of Titan. I will still give him and the others the benefit of the doubt for now. Their combined experience is the driving force behind building SPORT and eventually getting this promising product to market. I realize there is a learning curve for a small start-up company like Titan and I also realized going in that there is considerable risk. While there hasn't been much along the lines of PR and wish there was more, I currently trust this management team. From what I can tell, they are focused. As a long term investor in a development stage company, that's what I'm looking for.
I consider both of you to be intelligent, savvy investors who consistently contribute valuable input on this board so I hope you don't take this the wrong way...
The daily drum-beat of "why is the pps down and what the hell is wrong with these people?" posts and the "Hargrove is purposely keeping pps down to sell Titan to his buddies at JnJ" posts are not constructive criticisms. At best they just agitate and at worst they spark negativity, rumor and panic. If there was valid information to support willful negligence on the part of Titan Mgt, that's an entirely different scenario and hope anyone with such info will share it!
Again, I appreciate you holding their feet to the fire with questions about their decision making but I can do without the conspiracy theories.
LOL, thanks for the laugh Chuckles!
