Gay Television
I’m glad to read the announcement that TTN will be on Time Warner Cable very soon. So many TV stations are jumping on the bandwagon and showing so-called gay programs, but with the exception of Will & Grace and Queer as Folk, the shows are still depicting gays as limp wristed faggots. I hope TTN will produce TV shows that are more current with the gay community.
GH/Banning
Here at TTN we carefully monitor programming on other stations. We intend to show gay friendly movies and documentaries, plus news and information of upcoming GLBT events. The programming will conform to network standards and uphold the dignity of the gay community.
did Triangle Television Network get a new sign?

ok folks let's get back on the subject of QBID....
jc...
Do you know what he meant by that?
no...I don't know Jim
Folks Chemist is a friend of mine and *very* invested in QBID...outspoken, just like me. Don't know what the post read but this is not a fly by night poster...quite opposite...a very intelligent and well invested QBID shareholder. Just doesn't put up with BS...nothing wrong with that. While many of you get the opportunity to post trash here and RB why not change your own behavior also so folks don't have to return trash posts to protect their investment?
Dallas hope all works out well for you! eom

NATIONAL NEWS
Race for first U.S. gay channel continues
Canadian offering now available stateside
By MIKE FLEMING
Plans by three companies to launch the first U.S. gay television network continue in fits and starts, with projects from an entertainment heavyweight and an independent network still on hold as a gay channel in Canada attempts limited distribution here.
PrideVision, a gay cable channel based in Canada, announced July 12 that it is now available through Largo Communications, a satellite distributor in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., that provides access to Canadian satellite company Bell ExpressVu.
“We are extremely excited that our Canadian channel is available to audiences in the U.S.A.,” said Bruce Glawson, vice president of Canadian programming for PrideVision.
The cost to receive the channel is $5 per month on top of the $16 monthly Canadian satellite fee and the cost of installing and maintaining regular U.S.-based dish service.
Programs on PrideVision include repackaged series from other networks as well as original programming and late-night erotica.
Officials with PrideVision originally said a U.S. version of its network would be available last fall. In November, they cited stalls in contract deals when the network didn’t materialize.
The original plan to convert the concept into a U.S. channel is still on hold, Glawson said.
“Although PrideVisionTV may be available on a select few cable systems in the U.S. at an unknown time in the future, this Canada-produced channel is made available now to anyone who wants it via the Canadian satellite service,” he said.
After recent reports that media giant Viacom shelved its plans to launch a gay cable network, company officials remain mum on the project.
Viacom properties Showtime and MTV announced in January 2002 that they would team up to research the viability of a gay-oriented network. In May 2002, informal advisory panels met in several U.S. cities, including a group in Atlanta.
Panel members said a spring 2003 launch date was discussed, and an internal Viacom memo leaked on the Internet in November said the channel had the working name “Outlet.”
Viacom officials would not confirm details. When asked for an update last week, the company provided a statement it has circulated since last year.
“Due to the current economic climate, the timetable has slowed down for the development of a new network dedicated to programming to the gay and lesbian audience,” according to the statement.
The Palm Springs, Calif.-based Triangle Television Network, which experienced multiple delays in its promise to launch a gay network on satellite, remains stymied.
TTN, which changed its name from Gay Television Network after contract negotiations stalled with U.S. satellite giant Dish Network, has shown no movement since April 2002, when the contract with Dish Network was finalized. Its Web site lists programming to “watch for” but no start date.
TTN executives did not respond to interview requests by press time.
Even as U.S.-based gay channels falter, other networks increasingly program gay-themed shows that could make those efforts moot.
“ Gay channel? We already have one,” said Phil Rosenthal, entertainment columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times. “Clearly, cable networks have identified a fabulous target audience well worth wooing.”
NBC airs the popular sitcom “Will & Grace” and the NBC-held Bravo network now boasts two gay shows — “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” and “Boy Meets Boy” — in addition to specially scheduled gay film blocks throughout the year.
Other cable channels also air gay film blocks, and satellite provider Direct TV announced July 7 that it will show four to eight gay films a month on pay-per-view beginning on Aug. 29.
But there’s still room for an all-gay network, said Larry Gross, author of “Up from Invisibility” about gays and the media.
“It’s very important to have specialized programming, what you might call a place of your own,” Gross said.

New TV channel plans year-round football
By DOUG NYE
Television Editor
DON'T BE SURPRISED if sometime in the near future such things as The Little League Channel and The Bowling Channel pop up on various cable systems throughout the country.
As absurd as that might sound, we should have learned by now that nothing is out of the realm of possibility when it comes to the ever-expanding cable universe.
For example, you would think there is enough football on television with two ESPNs, Fox Sports Net and TBS serving up a glut of games, both pro and college, from late summer to midwinter. But there are other channels out there, such as College Sports Southeast and College Sports Television, scrambling to pick up the leftovers.
Obviously some folks believe we need even more. If all goes as planned, The Football Network will launch this fall, offering gridiron-related programs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 12 months a year. TFN already has announced plans to provide live coverage of a number of Division I-AA conferences, including the Big South, the Southern Conference, the Atlantic 10 and the Big Sky, and will produce the first I-AA All-Star Game on Dec. 30.
TFN also has signed agreements with the National Women's Football Association, Pop Warner Football and the U.S. Flag & Touch Football League. Can't wait for the USFTFL Game of the Week.
Dan Santelle, director of marketing for Time Warner Cable in Columbia, didn't exactly bubble with enthusiasm when asked if his company is considering picking up TFN.
"You would really have to want to see any kind of football if you watched that one," Santelle said.
"It seems as if there are new channels signing on almost every month these days and, because of that, we've become very careful about what we add. A new channel needs to have the kind of value and merit that we think will best serve our customers."
Santelle was reminded that the South is considered a hotbed for football.
"I'm not saying we would never put it on, but they haven't released any kind of concrete schedule for us to look at. We've just heard their plans and nothing else," he said.
Still, cable subscribers will be able to sample some of TFN's original programming at 9 a.m. Saturdays beginning Aug. 30 on TNN/Spike TV (cable ch. 22).
"Fantasy Football 2003" will be geared toward the nation's millions of fantasy football players. This program will provide news and advice for the players, including roster changes.
"Football 101" will be an 18-week, 30-minute magazine program with an NFL preview, high school football coverage, a college football preview and weekly visits to some of the country's most famous college towns.
Go Climb A Tree Taped coverage of the fourth annual Great Outdoor Games begins at 3:30 p.m. Saturday on ABC (WOLO-25, cable ch. 5) followed by segments at 4:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on ESPN (cable ch. 26). There are 23 events in four categories -- fishing, target sports, timber events and sporting dogs. More than 200 human competitors and approximately 50 dogs battled for $300,000 in prizes during the four-day event, held July 10-13 in the Reno-Tahoe region of Nevada. Coverage continues Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN and at 9 p.m. on ESPN2 (cable ch., 27). Mark Malone is the host.
The Iron Man. Fox Sports Net's (cable ch. 31) fine series "Beyond the Glory" focuses on Cal Ripken Jr. at 9 p.m. Sunday. Ripken, who spent his entire career with the Baltimore Orioles, is the guy who broke Lou Gerigh's record for consecutive games played. Ripken and others, accompanied by plenty of action footage, talk about that and other moments from his career.
