The city of Boca Raton, FL where the EZ2Companies.com servers are located suffered a direct hit from hurricane Wilma on Monday morning (EDT), October 24, 2005. The servers are located in the T-Rex Technology Center, a 200 acre corporate complex facility in Boca Raton, FL (formerly known as the
IBM Research & Development Center) along with several other large corporations.

One of these corporations is NTT/Verio who maintains a large data center which is hosting over 500,000 web sites and provides us with dual fiber links to the core of their tier-1 global OC13 backbone. The T-Rex Technology Center is equipped with a permanent grid of 5 diesel generators, with a cumulative output of 10 megawatts and 90,000 gallons of diesel fuel capacity, designed to provide the corporate complex with 20 days worth of continuous generator power.

Upon striking, hurricane Wilma caused extensive damage to the state of Florida and knocked out 90% of South Florida's utility power infrastructure which forced The T-Rex Technology Center to switch to generator power. Within 45 minutes, the generator system suffered a failure resulting to complete loss of power. The generator system was repaired and provided power for several hours before failing for a second time. The power failure caused a cumulative power and connectivity outage.

Utility power has been fully restored to the center and our network is now fully operational. Preliminary information suggests a malfunction in the fuel delivery system of the generator grid and an official report is expected within the next few days. This incident has exposed some key weaknesses in the redundancy plans in place which will be fully and properly addressed in the following weeks, at which point more information will be provided.

While no loss of data has occurred, we deeply regret this incident and the loss of connectivity. Most of the area is still out of power and food and supplies are becoming scarce.

Over 70 % of Key West, where I reside, was flooded, and over 50% of all residents lost their cars to the water damage. At this point, the staff will take some time to look after their families and their damaged homes and properties but we will do our best to address any concerns and questions you may have as promptly as possible.
