I don't dispute positives of Apple. Very limited advancement going forward does not cut it. Apple needs new products. Smart phones are reaching point where there is no more growth.
See below. There was another article yesterday stating that Smart phones growth is slowing down in China.

* Downgrades shipment and licensing expectations
* Shares fall 8 pct
(Adds shares, analyst reaction)
By Paul Sandle
LONDON, March 6 (Reuters) - Imagination Technologies has downgraded its forecast for shipments of chips containing its graphics and video technology because of lower than expected sales of top-end smartphones.
Shares in the British group, the technology of which is used in Apple's iPhone, fell to a three-week low after it updated the market on Thursday. They were trading down 8.3 percent at 172.2 pence by 1222 GMT, the biggest faller on the mid-cap index .
FinnCap analyst Lorne Daniel said the future looks increasingly bleak for Imagination, which is competing against bigger rivals such as ARM , Qualcomm , Intel and Nvidia .
"Our real concern is that we only see the scenario deteriorating further as Imagination lacks the cash and scale to match its key rivals in ferociously competitive CPU and GPU(central and graphics processing) markets," she said.
Imagination said it expected its partners to ship between 520 million and 550 million units this year, excluding the impact of its acquisition of MIPS technology in 2012, down from its previous forecast of 580-630 million.
The company said it has not been helped by its lower market share in cheaper smartphones, which has been the best-performing part of the market, but it hopes to gain share in that segment in the latter part of its next financial year.
In the short term, however, it also downgraded expectations for licensing revenue for the year to Apr. 30 to between 35 million pounds and 40 million pounds ($59-67 million), from 38-43 million pounds, to reflect the timing of deals in its final quarter. ($1 = 0.5977 British Pounds)
Apple has all of you to suck your money away without too much additional features.
It will happen one way or another. Intel 14nm process advantage will do by going after density which Intel by its decision did not do on 22nm 3D process.
Again only time will tell.
I don't know you personally and you don't know me. Why would I have contempt for you as a person?
What I have said that I don't like your inconsistency or change of opinions in a very short time. Things don't change in business that much.
If you don't like what Intel is doing over a period of time, talk with your money and not with mouth and or writing.
No one will argue with you on the fact that Intel has no traction in this area and Intel agrees with you. Intel stated design in the next a few months. Let us see. But even then it will not effect Intel that much from a revenue perspective.
I can become a moderator and you can as well. It will be too easy to delete everyone else we don't like or get challenged.
This is proper way to do this. Especially for you who claims to have contact in Intel. In the last a few days you have written and then gone back to Intel to check.
Do due diligence and then write.
Thank you for putting me on ignore. That proves my point of your supreme ego.
You claim you have no ego. Who are you to ask for an apology for your incompetence? Are you bigger than Intel? It appears so and such an ego.
You deserve what you are getting.

and yet an article simply presenting the results of a well-known, relevant benchmark is "irredeemable".
-------------------------------------
After criticising the same benchmark, now it becomes well known, and relevant.
Amazing.
Also the potential to do the memory(flash) business and edram portion of processors/gpus.
I thought IBM process was the best. The process was being used by Global Foundries, TSMC and Samsung.
It is not a matter of loving one or hating one. It is not a game of love and hate.
It is your inconsistency which is worrisome. Your undue expectations are the cause of all this.
We are also Intel investors and want our shares to go up. It is the way you come across.
I do stand by my statement. The only thing we all know that Intel has not won any designs. The only time will.
You can wiggle around it as much as you want. The truth is different. You do change your tune in response to every post.
You write so much that you forget what you wrote your self.
Please take action with your money and not with your words. You are not an analyst and no one is doing investing based on your views.
Yes, you can believe in your thesis but there is a way to do it.
You have bashed Intel here quite a lot. You have written a article on Alphas-Intel owes an apology to its investors. There is a limit to this.
If you stay invested in Intel, you will end up loosing opportunities some where else in the market.
Based on this you should be out of your iNtel stock and you should not be posting here.
Your inconsistency is horrible. No one is ever going to believe you.
Mas exactly. On one post, he will say CPU/GPU are excellent and the rest of the SOC is not adequate. Then he will turn around say absolute opposite to that.
The only thing he cares is Intel stock price which we all do as well.
That means to you that Intel is making these benchmarks to look good.
Intel has contributed mightly to various benchmarks over the years and no one has said anything about that.
You are just making it up. When you can't point anything wrong about the chip and its performance you divert to low ball tactics.
Intel announced merrifield amd Moorefield(H2 2014). So it has dual core and quad core processors.
announcement also said that it 7160 is selling very well including Samsung.
That is significant news. Yes, we are looking for devices. We will see in coming quarters.
Go sell your Intel shares. Announcement did not meet your expectations.
Wbmw,
Please don't spoil their party. They were so happy to hear that. In fact it led them to even dream that 16nm process is ahead of even 14nm process.
In fact the article stated that it was a second tape out.
But your point is still valid. It is not a product which can be demoed.
Microsoft to reduce Win 8 licensing fees by 70%
-----------
Microsoft combats Chromebooks by cutting Windows licensing fees by 70 percent
By Tom Warren on February 21, 2014 08:49 pm Email @tomwarren
Microsoft is reportedly cutting Windows 8.1 license costs by 70 percent for PC makers. Bloomberg News reports that the cuts are targeted at devices that retail for less than $250, in a move designed to combat rival low-cost tablets and Chromebooks. PC makers are usually charged $50 for a license of Windows 8.1, but Bloomberg News reports that manufacturers will be offered a license for just $15 on their low-cost devices.
Microsoft had been considering making Windows Phone and Windows RT available free of charge to device makers, and it appears the lowering of Windows 8.1 license fees for low-cost devices is the first step towards this possible plan. While Microsoft has sold more than 200 million licenses of Windows 8 since it was first released in October 2012, the growth rate is slower than its predecessor Windows 7. This is largely related to a PC market slowdown, and competition from rival low-cost tablets and devices.
BOOT-TO-DESKTOP CHANGES PART OF UPCOMING WINDOWS 8.1 UPDATE
Sources familiar with Microsoft’s Windows plans have revealed to The Verge that the Windows 8.1 license fee cuts are part of key changes to agreements and rules that OEMs adhere to. We understand that PC makers recently received updated documentation highlighting several licensing changes for Windows 8.1. One significant change is linked to an upcoming update for Windows 8.1. Microsoft is planning to automatically boot Windows 8.1 non-touch PC users to the desktop interface by default, as long as they haven’t already changed the existing setting that allows you to bypass the tiled Start Screen. Microsoft has been testing this change as part of its Windows 8.1 Update 1 which is due to be released in April.
With a renewed focus on the desktop in Windows 8.1 Update 1, it’s clear Microsoft is aiming to address feedback from traditional mouse and keyboard PC users to appease the core set of Windows users. Windows 8 has had a mixed reception, and any licensing changes for OEMs are clearly designed to prevent additional PC makers opting for Chrome OS on their low-cost laptops. During the early days of netbooks, Microsoft saw the threat from low-cost Linux-based machines and moved to offer Windows XP to OEMs at discounted rates. The software giant also created a special Windows 7 "Starter Edition" aimed at developing markets row low-cost netbooks. These latest license cuts could lead to a similar low-cost version of Windows 8.1 for PC makers.
That it what was reported on CNBC. It validates what Intel said in its earnings report that the PC is showing sign of stability.
That should be good signs for Intel in the short to mid term.
That is great. It was huge to start with. How does it effect Intel going forward?
IBM and Oracle(Sun) have captive markets. They are loosing share but at much slower pace. Their existing customers will deploy X86 when it needs additional servers.
Nobody is gleeing. It is a natural question. It happens to the best of the companies. The process technology is complex and very capital intensive. Without good yields, it becomes even harder to invest.
Was Samsung using 3-D process for its 20nm chips?
I have a feeling TSMC will run into similar yield problems.
Someone commented about that in comments section of that article.
Then why would you right a blog before checking with Intel?
It is shocking.
I am not sure. What is the creditability of this person?
Some of the posters have questioned that.
Ashraf quoted Digitimes in his blog as source of this information.
Only time will tell.
He already published his blog first thing in the morning. Now he has another reason to go after Intel management.
What he should do is sell his Intel investment and use funds to invest somewhere else.
He does not believe Govt. shut down as the real reasons.
He should look at Cisco earnings today. The growth in Servers and infrastructure is being impacted by poor economy etc.
That is what I was trying to point out. Higher you go the ladder, the more of these managers are very hard core and loyal to company they work for. Will never utter a word.
You have stated on numerous times that you have heard this from your friends at Intel/Other companies or heard that. That is what I was referring to.
These are Intel slides. And clearly Intel stated where are they relative to where they wanted to be. Intel did not deliver to that.
Now decision is yours like I said.
It may be utter nonsense but you changing stances is even worse.
You have been duped by Intel management. You believed every word of your friends(so called insiders) and came to conclusion to support your thesis. No one will ever tell the inside information.
By your own admission, Intel management lied to you and all other investors including me. Now the decision is up to us as what to do with our investment.
You must be the first one to sell, in my opinion.
Ashraf does not believe all this. He does not believe in manufacturing technology and does not believe Intel can design SOC products period.
He wants it today and right now. No, he wanted it yesterday.
You are wrong on one account. servers were not counted at all.
It is possible that Intel wants to get rid of inventory of these chips(40m) and then refocus its efforts.
It worked fine for me without log in
