Supplier to replace with niobium tantalum capacitor
In the fear of tantalum powder supply shortages and high prices, capacitor suppliers are increasing niobium electrolytic capacitor production, to use it as a kind of substitute products.
Several companies are planning to mass production of electrolytic capacitors at the beginning of next year, but there have been several companies already or plan to soon start to provide samples of such devices, including vishay intertechnology Inc., Japan's NEC and EPCOS in Munich, Germany.
Development of niobium capacitor has for several years, however, Vishay Smith says, only in the last year, for fear of coltan supply will not be enough to meet the needs of tantalum capacitors in the future, manufacturers have to speed up the development work in this aspect, coltan is a manufacturer of tantalum powder ore. Tantalum capacitor is a key to the original wireless phones and other portable products.
Because niobium sources more abundant, according to several current source of metal prices, the price of niobium at least 10 times than low. Suppliers said, this means that the lower the production cost of niobium capacitor. Other suppliers that niobium capacitor in the leakage current and temperature stability than tantalum capacitor.
However, AVX Corp., the application manager Chris Reynolds says, this limitation does not interfere with the capacitance in low voltage applications, tantalum capacitor has extensive use in this application. AVX Corp plans to start offering niobium capacitor samples at the end of the year.

Niobium Application
Suggestions In Using Niobium
Niobium and alloyed niobium have a high melting point, corrosion resistance, good cold processing properties and other superb features. It has been more and more widely used in chemical, electronic, electric light source, aerospace and other areas.
Chemical Industry
Niobium's chemical features are similar with tantalum. Except fluorine, hydrofluoric acid, acid solution contained fluorine ions, fuming sulfuric acid and strong alkalis, it won't corrode im most media. Therefore, niobium and alloyed niobium are largely used in making chemical industries' reaction vessels, heat exchangers as well as sodium electrical conduit of high pressure in lighting source industry.
Aerospace Industry
Niobium has small density, high melting point, good formability and thermal neutron captures small cross-sections and other excellent features, having good applications and perspectives. Niobium-based alloys of high temperature are widely applied to aerospace industry. FS-85, C103 these two alloys are separately used by spaceship engine's structural materials and rocket nozzles, heat exchangers and so on. Nb-1Zr can also be used in reactors inner elements, packaging materials and so on.
Electronic Industry
"Niobium and niobium zirconium alloys are used in making sodium lamp of high pressure in electronic industry. Adding zirconium to niobium can obviously raise materials' inoxidizability and intensity. Most niobium zirconium alloys are processed into wires used in making sodium lamps’ electrical conduits of high pressure. Nowadays, using niobium wires to replace niobium capacitors’ anticathode fuse is rising. Expensive tantalum wires have been taken place by niobium wires in a low-voltage scope and this tendency is becoming bigger and bigger.
Niobium Used In Other Ways
Like tantalum, niobium can be also used in making vacuum furnaces’ attachments and supports of high temperature in technical ways. Niobium of high purity, NbTi, Nb3Sn and so on. Alloyed niobium is also a good superconductor. The surface of metals will show different colors due to different amount of oxygen. So, niobium is also applied to jewelry manufacturing industry.
Landmark your a little fired up on the Eggnog already i'll be happy with more positive phase 3 drill results and over xmas im sure we wont get much news, Mark is smart, you want news to come out when the
market is listening, January is the historically the best month of the year for junior mining stocks. I say load up now and Q1 will be very interesting indeed. there is NO tax loss selling on NIOCORP, only the people who bought above .70 have a loss, i doubt if they still hold the stock they will sell and have to wait until mid January to buy back in? Huge Risk for sure You would have to be insane. Blairman bought 5 K more at .67 c

Here we GO!! :)
Niobium prices are historically
very stable. They moved little in
the period up to about 2006, when
a producer-driven doubling in
prices began, and have remained
stable at the higher benchmark.
Ferroniobium prices, in particular,
are clearly demand-inelastic, with
the 2009 slump in demand from
the global steel industry having
only minimal impact on pricing.
The outlook for prices is one of
gentle but steady increase; spikes
are unlikely except perhaps in the
case of very specialised products
that are produced and consumed
in small quantities, and any
imbalances in supply and demand
will be short-lived.
Demand for niobium is driven
by two sets of factors. One
is the overall growth in the
global economy, which directly
influences
the
demand
for
steel,
where most niobium is used,
and the demand for aerospace
superalloys, which are the largest
non-steel market. Future demand
for niobium will follow the overall
economic trend, at the very least.
The other factor is the incidence
of use in steel, which could be
the principal driver of structural
increases in demand in the
coming years.
The niobium market is
comparatively new, dating back
only a few decades. In steel, it is
consumed in very small amounts
– fractions of a percent in terms
of gross weight of steel – but
contributes enormously to the
quality of the steel produced. It is
not used in all steels. The main
use is in high-strength, low-alloy
(HSL)
A) steel, with a much smaller
amount going to 400 series
stainless
steels.
The
benefit
in
hsl
A steel is that the addition
of a small amount of niobium,
representing a very minor part
of the overall production cost,
considerably increases the
strength of the steel. This is
of particular importance in the
principal market segments where
hsl
A is used.
High-pressure gas
pipelines can be made with less
steel, and large weight savings
can be made in the construction
and automotive sectors. In most
applications, niobium faces little
threat of substitution by other
alloying elements.
In some countries, typically the
traditional industrial economies,
the use of niobium in steel is long-
established and the incidence
of use is already high. In some
other countries, however, there is
considerable latent demand. This
latter group includes China, India
and Russia.
Such countries have
an incidence of niobium use that
is currently far below the global
average. They also have the
highest forecast rates of growth
in steel production and there
is an anticipation that they will
increasingly move from producing
mild steel to
hsl
A steel. This
is the growth area for niobium
demand.

NioCorp Signs Confidentiality Agreements With Credit Suisse, Morgan Stanley; Shares Rise 0 comments
Nov 24, 2014 2:18 PM | about stocks: NIOBF
NioCorp Developments (CVE:NB)(OTCQX:NIOBF) shares rose on Monday after the company said it has signed confidentiality agreements with both Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley to review its long-term planning strategy.
"We are extremely pleased to have two elite firms, Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley, involved this early in the process," said chief executive officer Mark Smith.
"I believe that financial relationships with firms of this magnitude should be established now so by the time the technical studies are complete, the company can proceed immediately to the next step of the project," he said, referring to the development of NioCorp's high grade Elk Creek project in Nebraska.
NioCorp, which just recently unveiled further high grade drilling results from the project, just raised $10.6 million in a special warrant financing for continued infill drilling, pilot plant testing, and ultimately, the finalization of its full feasibility study for Elk Creek.
The property is the highest grade undeveloped niobium deposit in North America, discovered by Molycorp back in the late 1960s.
Niobium is mainly used in the form of ferro-niobium to produce high strength, low alloy steel, for use in automotive, structural and pipeline applications, and demand is seen increasing as the U.S. currently imports 100% of its niobium needs.
Shares of NioCorp rose 3.1 percent to 65 Canadian cents on Monday morning.

Tantalum and Niobium
Since 1982, the dramatic increase in demand for tantalum has been fueled at a rate of 10% per year by the electronics industry (Roskill Information Services). Characterized by a refractory nature, low natural abundance, extensive solid solution, few known deposits, sporadic supply and difficult metallurgy, tantalum is a complex, high tech metal of the future.
Tantalum and niobium processing can be difficult because the minerals are brittle, heavy and typically highly intergrown with sulfide and other oxide minerals. SGS has contributed to many tantalum projects over the years and can bring an integrated suite of services to tantalum and niobium exploration or development projects.
Mineralogy
Early identification of the tantalum or niobium minerals in an ore as well as their deportment, textural associations and micro-chemical composition plays a critical role in determining a deposit’s amenability to metallurgical processing.
Metallurgical Processing
Mineralogical data provides the grain size and textural parameters needed to establish and optimize a metallurgical flowsheet. Depending this data, a variety of different separation strategies can be used to concentrate tantalum and niobium minerals, including grinding, conventional and centrifugal gravity separation, regular or high intensity magnetic separation and advanced flotation techniques.
SGS has the expertise, technologies and experience to provide practical, effective solutions to your tantalum and niobium processing challenges. Partner with us to develop a flowsheet that is optimized for your ore.

Niobium and columbium are synonymous names for the chemical element with atomic number 41; columbium was the name given in 1801, and niobium (Nb) was the name officially designated by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry in 1950. Niobium in the form of ferroniobium is used worldwide, mostly as an alloying element in steels and in superalloys. Appreciable amounts of niobium in the form of high-purity ferroniobium and nickel niobium are used in nickel-, cobalt-, and iron-base superalloys for such applications as jet engine components, rocket subassemblies, and heat-resisting and combustion equipment.
Tantalum (Ta) is ductile, easily fabricated, highly resistant to corrosion by acids, and a good conductor of heat and electricity and has a high melting point. The major use for tantalum, as tantalum metal powder, is in the production of electronic components, mainly tantalum capacitors. Major end uses for tantalum capacitors include portable telephones, pagers, personal computers, and automotive electronics. Alloyed with other metals, tantalum is also used in making carbide tools for metalworking equipment and in the production of superalloys for jet engine components.
The United States does not have a niobium or tantalum mining industry because resources are of low grade, and the United States must import all of its niobium and tantalum source materials for processing. Brazil and Canada are the major producers of niobium mineral concentrates, and Australia, Brazil, and Canada are the major producers of tantalum mineral concentrates.

China and OECD to co-operate on promoting the responsible sourcing of minerals
Beijing, 24 October 2014 - Exploration Exchange China 2014, China's premier outbound mining and energy investment conference and exhibition, took place in Beijing on 24-25 October 2014.
This event was endorsed by the China Ministry of Commerce and hosted by the China Chamber of Commerce of Metals Minerals & Chemicals Importers & Exporters (CCCMC) and China International Chamber of Commerce for the Private Sector (CICCPS).
OECD's Deputy Director for Finance and Enterprise Affairs, Mr. Sangkyom Kim, delivered a keynote address at the opening session in front of a large audience of government and business representatives from both China and the international community
The CCCMC presented a set of guidelines intended to provide a roadmap for the responsible business conduct of Chinese companies operating overseas and for co-operation within China's mining industry. These guidelines were developed in co-operation with GIZ and with input from the OECD and Global Witness.
The OECD and GIZ then co-hosted a session on sustainable development in mineral supply chains.
Hence why they bought 15% of CBMM in 2012 and just recently NIOBEC.
Japan and Korea and other countries I am sure are keeping an eye on NIOCORP!!

Washington (CNN) -- Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu says she has the 60 votes she needs for the Senate to advance a measure Tuesday that would authorize construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
Landrieu has been scrambling to attract at least 15 Democrats to join 45 Republicans to reach the critical 60-vote procedural threshold. She told reporters at the Capitol on Monday night that she'd reached that mark.

Dems consider Keystone vote for Landrieu
Clinton: Keystone XL just one pipeline
"I feel very comfortable," Landrieu said.
At least 14 Democrats have said they will support the measure. But it's not clear who has agreed to provide the final vote or whether Landrieu's comments simply reflect optimism.
One of Landrieu's top targets, West Virginia Sen. Jay Rockefeller, said it won't be him. Another target, Maine Sen. Angus King, an independent who caucuses with the Democrats, said he is leaning against supporting the bill.
If she can shepherd the legislation through the Senate, it would allow Landrieu to demonstrate her influence one last time ahead of a Dec. 6 run-off election in Louisiana, where she faces Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy, who sponsored the bill authorizing the pipeline when the House approved it on Friday.
If the Senate ultimately passes the Keystone bill, a confrontation could emerge between Congress and President Barack Obama. The president said at a news conference late last week that he doesn't want Congress to intervene in the State Department's long-running consideration of the project -- and offered his most specific critique of it yet.
"Understand what this project is: It is providing the ability of Canada to pump their oil, send it through our land, down to the Gulf, where it will be sold everywhere else. It doesn't have an impact on U.S. gas prices," Obama said at a Friday news conference in Myanmar.
