Fuel cells
Nuclear energy looks to be the only way to generate the electricity to extract the hydrogen to obtain the unlimited and clean promise.
DNC: Vote early...vote often!
OT: B-o-ogey, boogey, boogey
M-i-chael, Michael, Michael Dukakis. I feel your presence.
OT: Roni. If your college students are so bright, why did they vote for Kerry? Do they want the US out of the middle east so Islam can finish off the Jews?
Roni,
The video was of some bombed out bunkers in Nevada. Besides. What is Curry going to do? Have his Swift boats guard all ammunition dumps. Or, maybe have some European friends such as special forces from Russia guard the dumps.
I was convinced we had a good shot at keeping Hilary from running in 2008 but now, all of you with the good track records, have me betting on a slam dunk of Shrub for four more years.
Hilary in 2008 makes me want to puke.
OT: Here we go again fibait
Glad you're helping to put Colorado in the righteous column. Keep up the good work.
.Mac
Lisa, I've been using it since day one. For me, the only value is the mail address. I can read @mac.com anywhere; just like the free hotmail. I do use iSync but find its usage complicated for casual use (once every two months).
Strong markets!
Wow. The market must have decided we have a winner in the election already. This is kind of a bummer for me knowing how my state is officially leaning. I can see a vindictive Shrub moving our Trident Nuclear Submarine base to Colorado as our punishment and as their reward for voting correctly.
OT Oregon and Absentee voting
It is easier for me to ensure mom votes correctly on complex issues. Also, there is no chad issues with her ballet. Funny thing, for over 50 years, she used to vote a straight demo ticket. Well, they say most people get more conservative with age.
" kneecaps broken"
That's just great! Break our kneecaps with NO HEALTH INSURANCE!
OT: Registration addresses. Ala Richard Daly, the addresses were all from various graveyards.
Roni, I voted last Monday. You didn't cancel my vote per chance; did you?
Free public toilets are a good thing with or without the Apple advertizing. The pay toilets in Paris work really well. Seattle was quoted a $300k price for each station.
Feedback from The City was that although they were self cleaning they didn't get rid of the dirty needles the junkies left behind. Also, the HOs were using them for entertaining purposes cutting down on the advertized squattings per hour rate.
Lisa
I recommend running the hardware diagnostic test after installing ram. It is on your RESTORE disk which ships with your machine. If I remember correctly, re-start with the apple key held down and the RESTORE disk in the drive.
I had a bad 512 meg stick of memory go bad or was partially bad from the get go. The hardware test found the bad stick. Actually, I think the front half of the stick was okay and probably the bad sector only got called on few occasions.
Most manufactors have very good return policies and lifetime warranties (if they themselves are still in business).
OT: Wakefield and HDTV
Can you see the action on Wakefield's knuckler with HDTV? On regular cable TV, I can see the big bend in curve balls and the movement on fastballs. But for the life of me, the other night Wakefield's pitches appeared just to be real slow other than the fact of the catcher running all over behind home plate trying to coral them!
Cotton's boat, Mark VIII
Mom has a 1996 Crown Victoria with a V8. It has 17.5k miles. Talk about the little old lady driving to church and back!
How about your for you're?
A few comments about utility rates.
You're work with the DOE concerning utility rate cases in the 70s coincided in time with the beginning of the environmental tax. In other words, constructing of new power plants came to a screeching halt; no fossil fuel, no nuclear, no dams (water wheel generators). Generation via conversation was the new idea; abstract concept to say the least.
The idea was to insulate your home, put in thermal pane windows, and install a gas furnace or heat pump. Do these and you will save energy. You will not save money however. The energy you save is sold to the new house down the street and the utility tariffs increase by 7-9% per year. The home owner is assuming the capital construction costs a utility used to make in building new generation capacity. This is analogous to the in time delivery systems the big boys try to get away with; shift inventory costs from yourself to the supplier.
In my first home, a beach shack, I re-sided and installed insulation and also thermal pane windows. My utility bill never went down. The local PUD was even willing to loan money for insulation at 0 % interest. They put a lien on your house which had to be cleared at time of sale. The economist now tell us it takes 30 years to pay back the cost of adding thermal pane windows. Not worth it.
We are at the point were we've squeezed any excess capacity out of the system. New home construction has taken care of this just as new automobiles took care of much of the smog problems caused by VW Beetles.
Instead of new punitive taxes, we should start building some new nuke power plants. The rest of the world is. One of these days, we're going to need the electricity to extract H2 from water for fuel cells.
Some folks in town have bought the new hybrid cars. They think they're pretty green. I'm still wondering how they're going to dispose of those larger lead acid batteries every five years.
Did everyone get their Google shares filled today? I had a lack of personal interest.
Monitor questions
I see many LCD TVs in the electronic stores. None of them seem to be of very high resolution. In fact, the TV resolution they advertise is less than my Apple LCD. What gives? Why aren't they capable of HDTV? Is a HDTV tuner so much more advanced than a modern computer video card?
Let's say I buy one of the new Apple 30" monitors. Why wouldn't it be capable of displaying true HDTV if the right equipment was sending a signal?
This whole HDTV thing seems to be force feeding us a broken mess. Someone picked the wrong standard. It's too bad computer and TV viewing standards didn't merge. HDTV is really beautiful but you can't reasonably get it into your home.
I have a Sony 13" in my kitchen. I would dearly love to replace it with a thin 17" LCD. The Sony box takes up way to much counter space with its depth. There doesn't seem to be any practical solution to my dilemma and willingness to spur the economy through consumer spending.
Who directs the market tomorrow; Dell or HP?
Cough! Cough! Did Apple's Xserver cut into HP's business last quarter?
As regards Dell, there might be something to the lean mean market share machine business model.
LisaAu, I hear good things about earbuds from the below site:
http://www.shure.com/earphones/index.asp?id=store1
I don't own any of the above.
Although it means nothing, we can start talking about the dell aapl delta again.
HP missing big time; 7 cents. Carly is feeling the heat.
Still, selling ink is a wonderful business.
"What are the odds that Apple is ever going to come up with a two-button, scroll-wheel, wireless mouse?"
The odds are quite a bit higher than Apple making a two-button, scroll-wheel, bluetooth trackball. I'm in the market for one.
Have any of you bi people downloaded Microsoft's service pack, yet. Is it available?
I'm hoping it will solve some problems within Virtual PC.
Cable broadband died this morning after 15 minutes of surfing.
I just love the way you can walk into the free wireless coffee shop, awake PB from sleep, and punch 'enter' in response to the "Your usual wireless networks are not available, would you like to join the FreakyCoffeeShop Network?" dialog.
Two out of the three laptops in here this morning are Macs even though the closest Mac buying joint is 40 miles away.
Chalabi needs to display his Iraqiness, even though he's spent 50 years in the US, by having his head severed.
I can't wait until next January when the swift boats charge up the Persian Gulf and in a band-aid filled four months negotiate peace and freedom for all (except the women).
Herb reporting for duty!
Linda,
Try resetting both your cable (maybe DSL?) modem and your wireless router. Unhook the power cords to both and leave off for a minute. The reset buttons on these devices are usually worthless; unhook the power.
My friend just went through a similar situation as you. His mistake was trying to reset the router while it was connected to a live modem.
After every power outage, I have to crawl under the desk and do the ole unplug-pug routine. No password here either.
clearsailing
Check your RAM. Using the system restore disc which came with your machine, start-up with the option key held down (I think it's the option key). From there follow the arrows to check your hardware, including RAM.
No V710 Bluetooth Motorola phone for Herby
Radio Shack had the new phones in store. $500+. If you sign a two year contract, $245. When I signed my two year contract, in June, no bluetooth phones were available. Work with me folks. No deal! I'm not paying $500 for one feature that is important to me.
Bluetooth and Verizon
Thanks for the heads up, dilleet. Verizon's web site is next to worthless. Like everyone else their official reply is, "We don't support Macs at this time." This isn't to say it won't work!
To get web access with my present LG phone, I needed to download a driver from Radio Shack which converted the phone to USB connection to a serial connection. (If you only knew how much time I've spent going the other way; devices with serial outputs going through a USB port. It doesn't seem right having a device with native USB output going to a USB port and then converting to serial!). Anyway, once everything was set up, it was easy connecting using Internet Connect. My PC friends were using some $40 Verizon Dial-up connection kit. My system works great without the kit.
Hopefully, there will be a Bluetooth phone to internet solution for Macs. It might be even easier since Apple has a bluetooth modem driver. The key is just to get the phone to dial the right number (#777) and enter the user name and password.
iHub
I just clicked on my first iHub ad. The new V710 Motorola with bluetooth cell phone is a must have. It is the first bluetooth enabled phone for Verizon service. I'll be able to chuck one more wire.
My bluetooth wish list is down to a trackball.
I often wonder about internet strategies relying on advertising. So many ads prove so phony from one end to the other it discourages any random clicking.
Anyway, the V710 ad was from Radio Shack and sold the product.
$1.88 for COSTCO gas.
aapl hold 30? Looks like we might be heading to the 'another buying opportunity territory'.
aapl hold $30.
Scottrader
Anyone able to get the free Scottrader streamer up and running? They sent me an e-mail saying their WEB page was changing along with the launch pad for streamer. Hmmmm...not working here.
Young roni,
The bar for senator from the Soviet of Washington will never be surpassed by Moms Murray. Alas, she might be dumber than a fence post but, she's Seattle's fence post. In Washington politics, you can see enough votes from atop the Space Needle to win state wide election.
I can remember the old days and even writing in Scoop Jackson's name for president. A cold warrior he loved his country and was a player on the world scene. The Jews of Russia and Israel never had a better friend.
And then there was Warren Magnusen. He might have been senator of a second tier state but, he alone set ocean policy for the whole world (200 mile economic limit).
Patty Murray might be a mom in tennis shoes but she ain't a senator no matter how many times elected.
OT: Celsius 911
No, I have not or will not see the above. I most likely will not buy the new block buster book, "Unfit to Command" either. I'm hearing good analysis of both on the San Francisco radio program, "The Savage Nation."
It was a mistake for Kerry to build his infomercial last week around 4 months over 30 years ago. Michael Moore and George Soros set the level on which this campaign will be conducted. The Swift Boat boys are only too happy to oblige.
There is still a chance for Kerry to cut Brush. Can you say, "Flat Tax?"
AppleWorks X...
Have I missed rumors? AppleWorks is getting a little long in the tooth.
OT:
Blue, you're a riot. Aren't you the one recommending we go see Celsius 911, the Miller docu-drama. No bias there; just the truff!
Rollover.org started some real nastiness that is back firing in a big way. It is quite entertaining in this boring political season. Yes we understand there are a few people who want anyone besides Bush. Kerry isn't anyone. Your friend Bill Clinton chopped the legs out from under Dean and then staged his own love fest and infomercial last week. If the party heavy weights had anything on their mind other than Hilary in 2008, don't you think they would have stuffed Kennedy (The Swimmer), Jimmie Carter, Alpo Gorpo, and Jesse Jackson in a dumpster?
You must have some sympathy for my consternation. The same people who told me four years ago Shrub is dumber than a fence post are now telling me he is well on the way to setting up a personal world dynasty! So which is it?
