Manti - My call to short ERHE was based on the chart pattern, and the sentiment on the message board at the time. Now the situation is different. In fact it is the exact opposite! I really like the fact that the pattern (and sentiment) is back in line with the rest of the energy plays! Goooooooo ERHE!!!
Deva - Thanks for the compliment - If you use tight stops, there will be no need to jump out of the window!
Good luck, and good trading!
Robert
Great! - I'll bet you a lunch the SPX is higher a week from now! (now 1160)
Those who shorted last week were winners (assuming they have covered by now). IMHO Anyone shorting now is almost certain to lose! Personally, I am looking forward to some great shorting opportunities later this year, but now is definitely not the time! JMHO
Deva - IMHO this isn't time to short anything! Buy the dips, and leave the shorting to the "losers"
Google jumps 9% to $223 on blowout report
MCI shares rise after Qwest renews its bid.
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Shares of Google Inc. shot up more than 9%, reaching an all-time high of $223 after blowing away analysts' expectations for both earnings and revenue, while shares of MCI Inc. moved up nearly 2% after Qwest announced late Thursday it would increase its bid for the telecommunications provider.
The Nasdaq-100 After Hours Index, which tracks evening action of the technology heavy index's leading shares, was up 0.75 points to 1448.12.
Google (GOOG: news, chart, profile) shares jumped to $223 after posting first-quarter earnings of $1.29 per share and sales of $1.26 billion. Excluding certain items, the Internet search engine earned $1.12 per share, topping analysts' forecasts of 92 cents per share and $731 million in revenue. See full story.
Share of MCI Inc. (MCIP: news, chart, profile) jumped more nearly 2% to 26.95 in heavy after hours volume after Qwest Communications International Inc. (Q: news, chart, profile) increased its MCI bid to $30 a share, the telecommunications services provider said in a filing late Thursday. The new amount represents an increase of $2.50 a share in the cash portion of its bid to $16.
Thanks tekprod! eom
blackcloud - "In the long run, we're all dead"
Actually I agree that there is a real estate (and stock market) crash on the horizon... it just won't happen tomorrow or next week. I have already posted several times that I expect another "October Crash" this year! Interest rates are low (extremely low) and the core inflation rate is subdued (with a little help from China and India).
I said I expected a slight dip on the open, followed by an uptrend lasting several months. I guess like everyone else on this board, I was overly bearish! The "MELT-UP" has already begun!!!
http://money.cnn.com/markets/morning_call/
tekprod - the good news is "Thursday Reversal" day is tomorrow!
Many of the speculative favorites have already bottomed and begun to rally. Earnings are improving, inflation is subdued, interest rates are low, bearishness is rampant (high put/call ratio), and some key sectors such as SOX, XOI, and Nasdaq Composite have made higher lows. IMO the market will test today's lows on tomorrow's open, and the bottom will be complete. Then the major uptrend will resume! (wave 533 up from 1982). Don't bet on any more really big dips for the next three months or so.
Tomorrow I expect a close at today's high, followed by a "gap and run" on Friday. This will complete an "island bottom" on the NDX. Good luck, and good trading!
peg - I agree! All this bottoming action has a lot of people very upset! Whenever I am 100% long, I feel a lot more comfortable when "reversal Thursday" is preceded by a down day. The big jump in the put/call ratio on the close (to 1.05) and the fact that the new low in the SPX was not confirmed by the Naz, puts the final nail in the bear's coffin. IMO If they are grouchy today, tomorrow they will be terrified!

Boa noite frank!
index futures say bear-trap slammed shut!!!
Have you ever eaten smoked bear meat? Ugh!!!
frank - don't tell me you're already joining the "chickens" in the hen-house! (Maybe you should check to see what's in your back pocket)

U.S. March core PPI remains tame with 0.1% gain
Last Update: 4/19/2005 3:19:20 PM
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Soaring energy prices pushed U.S. producer prices up by 0.7% in March, but core inflation remained tame, the Labor Department reported Tuesday.
BRIG - "markets are strongest when they look the weakest, and markets are weakest when they look the strongest"
(one of my favorite quotes)
tekprod - that is the next hurdle, now that we have pulled away from your support line (previously resistance) across the 2004 tops! (thanks for the great t/a)
PCR/TICK/TRIN - all bullish - RALLY TIME!!!
My Naz "canaries" INTC & GNSS are hitting new highs!
usa - you may be right. frank's 1419.50 support has just been broken!
(although it is trading back above it now)
I also notice XOM blew through your resistance level!
frank - apparently it has held at 1419.70
(so far, so good)
frank - or "fill the gap" to 1440
usa - if this is a 40-wk cycle low, why are you getting out in less than one day? IMHO you'll soon wish you had stayed a lot longer. (We'll see)
usa - will you re-enter if we break (and re-test) resistance? If not, why not?
In a strong up-trend, a short-term cycle low can amount to no more than a "pause to refresh"
usa - 'sounds good to me!...
put/call ratio 1.04, TICK/TRIN bullish...
a strong rally today will provide the "confirmation" of yesterday's "key reversal bottom"
"ascending triangle" on SPX intraday...
RALLY TIME!!!
XOM is leading the market higher!
The day has barely begun (patience)!
tekprod - is that bullish or bearish? I guess it depends on which way the market goes from here, right? If we go up, the line becomes support. If we go down, the line becomes resistance. So just go with the trend from here, right?
Well, I am fully invested, expecting it will go up from here!
I see the Nikkei and Hang Seng are both up over 1%
RALLY TIME!!!
I agree frank - PCR/TICK/TRIN all bullish...
IMHO it is a "MAJOR BOTTOM" that will launch a strong uptrend through July or August! (wave 533 up from 1982)
david - did you see this post?...

I agree that there is a certain element of luck in everything we do. Why do you suppose so many of the "greats" of the world are so superstitious? Thus the old saying "the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry"
peg - I think he finally lost it all by being short in the bull market that began after the 37 crash (he committed suicide in 1940). He always had a bearish bias!
