RPTP 3.66 Raptor Pharmaceuticals - Raptor Pharmaceutical Completes Enrollment in Pivotal Phase 3 Clinical Trial of DR Cysteamine for the Potential Treatment of Nephropathic Cystinosis
Over 30 Patients Expected to Complete Eight-Week Study Protocol
Raptor Pharmaceutical Corp. ("Raptor" or the "Company") (Nasdaq:RPTP - News), today announced it has completed enrollment in its Phase 3 clinical trial of its proprietary delayed-release oral formulation of cysteamine bitartrate ("DR Cysteamine") in patients with nephropathic cystinosis ("cystinosis").
The pivotal Phase 3 clinical trial is designed as an outpatient study of the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics ("PK") and pharmacodynamics ("PD") of DR Cysteamine dosed every twelve hours in patients with cystinosis, compared to the current standard of care, immediate-release cysteamine bitartrate, which requires dosing every six hours. Raptor expects over 30 patients to complete the eight-week study protocol. All patients completing the Phase 3 clinical trial have the option of enrolling in a long-term follow-on study where they continue to receive DR Cysteamine twice daily for the extent of the study.
"As defined in our statistical analysis plan, an interim statistical analysis of intra-patient variance after 20 patients had completed the study, led us to determine that our patient enrollment is complete. With enrollment completed, we anticipate that we will be able to meet our goal of reporting top line data from this clinical trial in the first quarter of 2011," remarked Patrice P. Rioux, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Medical Officer of Raptor. "Patient compliance is paramount to improving therapeutic control and achieving optimal long-term treatment outcome, and we believe twice-daily DR Cysteamine has the potential to be as efficacious as immediate-release cysteamine bitartrate for cystinosis patients, but with a more convenient dosing schedule and potentially improved tolerability."
The randomized, crossover design of the pivotal Phase 3 clinical trial is a result of discussions with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") through which the FDA provided significant guidance on trial protocol design, clinical endpoints, and statistical analyses plans. The primary endpoint of the multi-center, global clinical trial is the steady-state white blood cell ("WBC") cystine levels of patients taking DR Cysteamine compared to immediate-release cysteamine bitartrate. Secondary endpoints are the safety and tolerability of DR Cysteamine and the comparability of steady-state PK of DR Cysteamine and immediate-release cysteamine bitartrate.
"DR Cysteamine has the potential to address two critical issues with the current treatment regimen for cystinosis patients, which result in sub-optimal disease control in many of them. I believe this new formulation of cysteamine bitartrate could greatly improve the quality of life and long-term health outcomes of these patients," said Craig Langman, M.D., The Isaac A Abt MD Professor of Kidney Diseases at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, and Lead Investigator in Raptor's Phase 3 clinical trial.
In November 2009, Raptor completed its Phase 2b clinical trial of DR Cysteamine in cystinosis. DR Cysteamine demonstrated improved tolerability and the potential to reduce total daily dosage and administration frequency compared to immediate-release cysteamine bitartrate. Immediate-release cysteamine bitartrate is the only drug therapy approved for marketing by the FDA and European Medicines Agency ("EMA") for this indication. Despite being the standard of care, gastrointestinal side effects and a strict around-the-clock, every 6 hour dosing schedule for immediate-release cysteamine bitartrate create tolerability and compliance issues for cystinosis patients that DR Cysteamine is designed to address.
About Nephropathic Cystinosis
Nephropathic cystinosis is an inborn metabolic error characterized by the abnormal transport of cystine, an amino acid, out of the lysosomes. Failure to treat nephropathic cystinosis can cause serious health consequences, including renal failure and resultant need for a kidney transplant; growth failure; rickets and fractures; photophobia and blindness. Symptom onset typically occurs within the first year of life, when cystine crystals accumulate in various tissues and organs, including the kidneys, brain, liver, thyroid, pancreas, muscles and eyes.
About Cysteamine and DR Cysteamine
DR Cysteamine is Raptor's proprietary enteric-coated, microbead oral formulation of cysteamine bitartrate designed to potentially reduce dosing frequency and gastrointestinal side effects associated with immediate-release cysteamine bitartrate, which is approved for sale by the FDA and EMA to treat nephropathic cystinosis, a rare, genetic lysosomal storage disease.
In December 2007, Raptor obtained an exclusive, worldwide license from the University of California, San Diego for the development DR Cysteamine for nephropathic cystinosis and cysteamine for other potential indications including Huntington's Disease, NASH and Batten Disease.
About Raptor Pharmaceutical Corp.
Raptor Pharmaceutical Corp. (Nasdaq:RPTP - News) ("Raptor") is dedicated to speeding the delivery of new treatment options to patients by working to improve existing therapeutics through the application of highly specialized drug targeting platforms and formulation expertise. Raptor focuses on underserved patient populations where it can have the greatest potential impact. Raptor currently has product candidates in clinical development designed to potentially treat nephropathic cystinosis, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis ("NASH"), Huntington's Disease ("HD"), aldehyde dehydrogenase ("ALDH2") deficiency, and thrombotic disorder.
Raptor's preclinical programs are based upon bioengineered novel drug candidates and drug-targeting platforms derived from the human receptor-associated protein ("RAP") and related proteins that are designed to target cancer, neurodegenerative disorders and infectious diseases.

Drug-Friendly Netherlands to Close 8 Prisons -- Not Enough Crime
For years prohibitionists, including our own Drug Enforcement Administration, have claimed — falsely — that the tolerant marijuana policies of the Netherlands have made that nation a nest of crime and drug abuse. They may have trouble wrapping their little brains around this:
The Dutch government is getting ready to close eight prisons because they don’t have enough criminals to fill them. Officials attribute the shortage of prisoners to a declining crime rate.
Just for fun, let’s compare the Netherlands to California. With a population of 16.6 million, the Dutch prison population is about 12,000. With its population of 36.7 million, California should have a bit more than double the Dutch prison population. California’s actual prison population is 171,000.
So, whose drug policies are keeping the streets safer?

Packers vs. Chicago Bears:
All-time regular season: 83-91-6
All-time, postseason: 0-1
All-time, at Soldier Field: 19-19-0
Streaks: The Packers have won four of the last six meetings.
Last meeting, regular season: Jan. 2, 2011, at Lambeau Field; Packers won, 10-3
Last meeting, postseason: Dec. 14, 1941, Western Division playoff at Wrigley Field, Chicago; Bears won, 33-14
* No two teams have met on the gridiron more than the Packers and Bears. Sunday they face off for the 182nd time, but for just the second time in the postseason.
* The Packers swept the season series in ‘09 for the first time since 2003. That ‘03 sweep capped a seven-game win streak and an 18-2 stretch dating back to 1994. On only four occasions in NFL history has a team enjoyed a better 20-game stretch against a single foe.
* Chicago has swept the season series twice in the last five years (2005, ‘07), their only series sweeps since 1991.
* The Packers’ 37-3 win on Nov. 16, 2008, marked the largest margin of victory in the series since Green Bay’s 40-3 win on Dec. 11, 1994. Chicago’s win in December of that year was just the second OT game in series history and first since Sept. 7, 1980, when Packers K Chester Marcol returned his own blocked FG for the winning score.
* The last time Green Bay led the overall series? On the heels of its three straight NFL championships, 1932, when the Packers led 11-10-5. Two months after Babe Ruth allegedly called his shot at Wrigley Field in the 1932 World Series, the Bears stole from Green Bay a fourth straight title (which at the time was determined by league standings). Chicago barely finished atop the league standings, which unlike today did not count ties. Had the league counted ties in standings, the Packers would have won. The next year, 1933, the NFL began determining its champion with postseason games.

Sales of 1-Ounce American Silver Coins Soar, U.S. Mint Says
Jan. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Sales of 1-ounce American Eagle silver coins are headed for a record this month, according to data from the U.S. Mint.
About 4,588,000 coins have been sold in January, according to data on the Mint website. That would be the highest monthly total since sales began in 1986.
Silver futures for March delivery dropped 11.1 cents, or 0.4 percent, to $28.801 an ounce on the Comex in New York today. The price touched a 30-year high of $31.275 on Jan. 3 and gained 84 percent last year as investor demand surged.

What's in the Non-Chicken Half of the McNugget?
Do you put dimethylpolysiloxane, an anti-foaming agent made of silicone, in your chicken dishes? How about tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), a chemical preservative so deadly just five grams can kill you?
These are just two of the ingredients in a McDonald's Chicken McNugget. Only 50 percent of a McNugget is actually chicken. The other half includes corn derivatives, sugars, leavening agents and completely synthetic ingredients.
There's no doubt processed food like that from McDonald's is not part of a healthful diet, and I'm grateful I've never had a chicken McNugget. But many Americans cannot say the same.
This sentiment was echoed by Federal Judge Robert Sweet in a lawsuit against the restaurant chain in 2003: "Chicken McNuggets, rather than being merely chicken fried in a pan, are a McFrankenstein creation of various elements not utilized by the home cook."
Time Magazine reported that Judge Sweet "questioned whether customers understood the risks of eating McDonald's chicken over regular chicken."
Seven years later, I still wonder whether McDonald's customers truly understand the risks of consuming fast food on a regular basis.
If you missed Morgan Spurlock's documentary "Super-Size Me," I highly recommend you watch this real-life illustration of just how dangerous an excessive fast food diet can be. And excessive is likely far less than you imagine: Eating fast food just twice a week doubles your risk of developing insulin resistance, compared to eating it only once a week. (Insulin resistance one of the primary driving factors behind most Western diseases, from diabetes to cancer to heart disease.)
The truth is, McDonald's fare contains non-food ingredients that can seriously harm your health. This shouldn't come as any great surprise. After all, how healthful can something be that shows no signs of decomposing after being left on a counter for more than a decade?
According to McDonald's, their chicken nuggets are "made with white meat, wrapped up in a crisp tempura batter." But as Organic Authority pointed out in a recent article, these nuggets are a far cry from what you might expect.
So what are dimethyl polysiloxane and tertiary butylhydroquinone?
* Dimethyl polysiloxane is a type of silicone with anti-foaming properties used in cosmetics and a variety of other goods like Silly Putty.
* Tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) is a petroleum-based product with antioxidant properties.
TBHQ, typically listed as an "antioxidant," is a synthetic chemical with antioxidant properties -- not a natural antioxidant.
TBHQ prevents oxidation of fats and oils, extending shelf life of processed foods. Commonly used in processed foods of all kinds, it's also found in varnishes, lacquers, pesticide products, cosmetics, and perfumes to reduce the evaporation rate and improve stability.
At its 19th and 21st meetings, the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives determined that TBHQ was safe for human consumption at levels of 0-0.5 mg/kg of body weight. However, the Codex commission later reset the limits to between 100 and 400 mg/kg, depending on the food it's in. That's quite a discrepancy in supposedly "safe" limits! (Chewing gum contains the highest levels of TBHQ.) So is the safe level zero or 400 mg/kg? Who knows?
According to A Consumer's Dictionary of Food Additives, one gram of TBHQ can cause:
* Nausea
* Vomiting
* Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
* Delirium
* Sense of suffocation
* Collapse
Based on animal studies, health hazards associated with TBHQ include:
* liver effects at very low doses
* positive mutation results from in vitro tests on mammalian cells
* biochemical changes at very low doses
* reproductive effects at high doses
The good news is it's not suspected to be a persistent toxin, meaning your body is probably able to eliminate it so it doesn't bio-accumulate.
I recently commented on how McDonald's food seems to remain impervious to degradation, as if it's been embalmed to stay fresh forever! After sitting on a shelf for 14 years, the hamburger bun has yet to develop a single trace of mold or even shrivel.
If you read the list of ingredients in these buns, this mysterious mummification becomes less of a mystery:
* calcium sulfate (Plaster of Paris)
* calcium carbonate (Antacid)
* ammonium sulfate (Harmful if swallowed)
* ammonium chloride (Causes irritation to the gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea)

That these foods don't decompose is a clear sign that they aren't real foods, and should not be part of your diet. (Always remember that wholesome, health-promoting food is "live" food, and the hallmark of live food is that it will decompose.)
The bottom line is, if you want to stay healthy, and keep your children healthy, it is best to avoid both fast food and other processed foods, and invest time in cooking from scratch.
Ideally, you'll want to consume as much whole, raw, organic and/or locally grown foods as possible. That's why so many people like vegetable juicing. You're consuming living raw food!
Most vegetables also have very low carbohydrate levels that minimally disturb insulin metabolism -- another important trait of a healthful diet.

IGC .87 India Globalization Capital - OTC Stock Review Issues an Updated Report on India Globalization Capital, Inc.
OTC Stock Review announces it has published a report on India Globalization Capital, Inc. (NYSE Amex:IGC). IGC is a pure play on the Chinese economy and the Indian government's plan to spend $22 billion in the next 12 months on roads, highways, materials, and construction. The real play, however, is in the exportation of iron ore to China.
Shares of IGC have declined since the Indian state of Karnataka banned exports of iron ore from 10 ports in July. In our opinion, this has created a huge buying opportunity on shares of IGC. Three mining firms, Sesa Goa Ltd., MSPL and SB Minerals, challenged the state government's July 28 order. In New Delhi last week, the Supreme Court gave the Karnataka government two more weeks to respond to a plea against its ban on transportation of iron ore outside the state for exports.
We alerted our subscribers to IGC in April, 2010 at $1.10 per share. Less than 60 days later, IGC announced a $35 million iron ore contract with a leading Chinese mining and smelting conglomerate. The stock moved sharply higher to trade at $2.50 on heavier than normal volume. When it looked like Karnatakan officials were going to open the ports again, shares of IGC rallied to trade as high as $1.28 on September 29, 2010. The ban on ore in Karnataka is expected to be lifted in Q1 and may be as early as the end of January 2011, according to the court order. If the ban is lifted at the end of January, investors in IGC could see a strong move to the upside.
The complete report is available at http://www.otcstockreview.com/IGC_Review_2.pdf.

OT: Hip Hop Social Media Meets Wall Street: 50 Cent and His $8.7 Million Penny Stock Tweets
"[H&H Imports] Stock went from 5 cent to 10 in one day. You can double your money right now. Just get what you can afford."
[H?&?H Imports has]…15 products this year. If you get in technically I work for you. BIG MONEY."
If you think you are reading the script of Boiler Room, you probably are not that far off. These are actually statements, according to Guardian, broadcasted by rapper 50 Cent on twitter, the social media site, on which 50 Cent has over 3.8 million followers. (The original tweets have been removed from 50 Cent's Twitter account.)
290% Pump = $8.7 million Paper Profit
H&H Imports is a penny stock traded on Pink Sheets under the ticker HNHI. Apparently, 50 Cent’s 3.8 million followers heeded his tweets, as HNHI shares saw a 290% jump in one day on Jan. 10, 2010 (See Chart). This is not one of those paid promotions that celebrities sometime do, and by NY Post’s account, that pop also translates into $8.7 million paper profit for 50 Cent. That means 50 Cent owns about 30 million shares of the stock.
Insider Disclosure?
There are some aspects of this event that could attract interests from the SEC. For example, 50 Cent did not disclose that he purchased about 13% of H&H Imports, consisting of shares and warrants, in a private placement back in November, 2010.
According to another article at Hotstocked.com, the price per unit was $0.10 and thus the total investment made by the rapper amounted for $750,000. But the article went on to say "It looks like the warrants have also been already exercised," and the actual number of shares owned could as many as 30 million, which is the number cited by the NY Post article.
From $412k loss to $8.7 Million Profit?
Using just the $0.10 per share and $750,000 as the cost base, the stock’s 4.5 cents price on Thursday Jan. 6—right before the pump tweets—could represent a paper loss of $412,500 to 50 Cent, at the minimum. (Yes, this is loose change to the rapper mogul, as 50 Cent net worth is estimated to be $480 million, but Martha Stewart had served time for far less.) Furthermore, making claims like “double your money right now” to investors is a big no no.
"Alternative Exchange"...For Good Reason
However, what really boggles my mind is the fact that 9.24 million shares were traded in two days flocking to a high risk penny stock largely on celebrity tweets!
I’m not sure if anybody invested in the stock has bothered to do any due diligence homework. First of all, there’s a reason these Pink Sheets stocks are listed on the “alternative exchange” – they are not exactly financially sound and highly speculative.
Then, there’s this small matter that H&H Imports does not even have an official company website. Of course, the various and extremely vague business descriptions from Yahoo Finance, and Google Finance only further affirm one of the typical penny stock's characteristics.
NY Post also reported that as of Sept. 30, the company has accumulated a deficit of $3.3 million and in March its auditor raised questions about its ability "to continue as a going concern," the company has said in financial documents.”
Ok, ‘nough said.
Pump, But Not Sure About Dump
The stock, after peaking at 39 cents on Jan. 10, has since dropped almost 31% to close at $0.27 on Friday, Jan.13. So, apparently there’s some dumping going on. Nevertheless, I personally am quite flabbergasted at the apparent faith behind the stock as it is still way above its low of 4.5 cents.
Anyway, for now, there’s no indication that 50 Cent has sold his holdings to complete the “pump and dump” cycle as some has suspected him of. I guess we will leave it to the SEC and other regulatory agencies to sort it all out.
Meanwhile, there seems to be some PR coaching coming through in the more recent tweets by 50 Cent such as this one:
"I own HNHI stock thoughts on it are my opinion. Talk to financial advisor about it."
