The term "dual mode" (for our purposes at least) refers to phones that are both cellular and Wi-Fi (or some other LAN) capable. ASNAP refers to the seamless switching between the two.
"Dual mode" and "ASNAP" are two different things.
Ouch! Yes, sir! Have it your way, sir...speaking of...it's burger time. Ya'll have a good evening.
Someone needs to interview Robert Leon in person about what is going on with ASNAP.
John,
You'd better pick a side of the fence because you'll lose credibility just flip-flopping back and forth every post...
Did Calypso just want to get generic phones so they could put out press releases showing that they were demoing to companies? Is this why we never hear anything about the abundant demos and field trials from all these companies they have announced over the last few years?
I would love for someone to attempt to follow up with this Jai Doon Pandit (even though I suspect he was just set up to promote Calypso...but someone could just see what kind of response is given) to ask if Calypso actually produced a product that they advertised.
See, all Calypso has to do is show up with a crappy product and no order is placed. They get the benefit of the press releases, etc., but never have to actually follow through with anything...
Michael,
WOW! This further exposes what kind of organization this is. They aren't even testing ASNAP! I don't understand...so is Calypso Wireless now shifting gears and trying to be a third party seller of wireless phones that don't even contain their technology? Who would want to buy something like that? Strange...
This certainly explains why they aren't being successful at selling any ASNAP enabled phones because they don't have any! Heck, it seems as if anyone pretty much could call up a company like RV Tec and order a phone, right? Calypso is demoing a phone that they ordered from somewhere else...LOL!!!! ANYONE could do that...there's nothing special about it. My goodness! It seems pretty clear that this is just a game. Anyone here interested in signing my petition to the SEC when I send it?
I'm glad someone finally asked some simple, clear questions. It's clear that the other people that "talk" to Calypso all the time either don't understand this technology at all and don't know what to ask or they are just here to pump the stock...asnap has always ignored me when I've tried to get him to ask questions that will get any real information. This is all just a game to get people's money.
Now, I'll ask this AGAIN! How is Calypso supposed to be shipping 100,000 phones to fulfill the Franc Telecom order for the fourth quarter when Calypso does not even have a finished product!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????????????????? This can't be anything but FRAUD! (In my opinion, of course.) Legitimate businesses do not operate like this! They don't lie and make up stuff as they go along!
EXCELLENT work, Michael. You can be my tennis instructor any day.
When will the nuclear bomb awake you from your slumber?
A post from June 3, 2004...I think Michael Allard will appreciate the last part of this...
"I have a couple of questions for the board. I have a problem here trying to figure out how Calypso Wireless reported revenues in Q3, 2003 pertaining to field trials when they obviously didn't have anything to field test. We are supposedly still waiting for prototypes to be developed.
""During the third quarter 2003, the Company generated $395,867 of revenues, which relates to equipment being shipped for field testing purposes."
What equipment exactly did they ship for field testing during that time?
My other question to consider is if they don't have phone prototypes developed do they have their other products developed at all or are they also going to have to be developed? I think we have overlooked the access points that will be needed and also the PCMCIA cards that they list on their website as being one of the products that they offer (which I think the website is false advertising since they don't actually have any products but yet they say they have developed and manufacture these things...but that is discussion for another day). We might as well take this further...does this further mean that the actual ASNAP software actually hasn't been developed yet either? This sounds like a silly question, but IS IT REALLY A SILLY QUESTION AT THIS POINT? We have the idea stated in a patent, but we have no evidence of any product or software being supplied by the company...I'm beginning to wonder. I'm probably getting a little too far on the deep end with that question, but I just thought I would throw it out. The idea has been patented, and the name ASNAP is trademarked but no actual products have been developed that we know of...interesting thoughts, no???"
Look at a post of mine from July 2, 2004!
"Demos do nothing for anyone...Calypso has already successfully completed a demo supposedly on T-Mobile's network in Miami months ago.
Demos would be no progression forward, if that's what some of you are thinking...actually, I view it negatively. The fact that demos are being focused on shows that the company can't produce anything more substantial."
Just waiting for Calypso Wireless to report insignificant/zero revenue for the fourth quarter or to say, "we expect to begin shipping of the products in the fourth quarter of 2006" to go into action.
They pictured a phone in 2003 too.
http://www.3g.co.uk/PR/Feb2003/4850.htm
Oh, so now the claim is that they don't have a phone with ASNAP? I'm confused. Does ASNAP not work, then? Why would Calypso Wireless even bother having a phone without ASNAP? This is getting weird...especially the fact that it doesn't seem to bother anyone that this is being discussed.
Good point, but the article actually was talking about how Verizon was using another technology to avoid Wi-Fi altogether so that people wouldn't have to worry about where Wi-Fi was or where it wasn't...thus making ASNAP unimportant...
I can tell Michael Allard is quite intelligent. He is one of the very few on here that makes any sense. I would much prefer to get instruction from him than plaintiff any day...maybe that's why that tennis instructor makes so much money...???
It's not about shooting people in the foot, though. You may get shooting pains in your foot when you are confronted with reasonable questions and facts, but I am not intentionally here to harm anyone...you might want to ask yourself why your foot hurts when you read these posts because mine doesn't hurt when I read other's posts...I actually usually laugh.
See, I DO smile!
*stands behind Michael*
There! :)
For the most part, Qualcomm had manufactured their phones, and the CEO even insisted that Qualcomm manufacture their own phones. I understand, however, Qaulcomm recently handed manufacturing over mostly to Kyocera (2001)...
Let's make something clear...Calypso Wireless IS NOT a manufacturer! I think the argument that plaintiff has is that Calypso is offering all these different things...
Calypso is only marketing a solution for seamless switching of signals from cellular to Wi-Fi or vice versa...that's it. Do you mean to tell me that Calypso Wireless is going to offer services that all the other top manufacturers do not offer? Give me a break.
If they decide to move forward with the technology, carriers will have to invest substantial amounts to upgrade their networks to switch mobile calls to Wi-Fi networks, said Sprint's Elliott.
from Joanna Glasser, Wired News
Verizon Wireless, meanwhile, has shied away from Wi-Fi phones, opting to focus instead on a proprietary service, BroadbandAccess, that lets users maintain a mobile, high-speed internet connection across an urban area.
"The mobility factor brings a lot more value to the end user than what Wi-Fi has to offer right now," said Ken Muche, a spokesman for Verizon. "You're not going to be tied down to a coffee shop or the lobby of a hotel."
from Joanna Glasser, Wired News
but the only real feature Calypso has IS ASNAP...I don't understand your line of reasoning...can you clarify?
Do you understand English? I think the question is why were you saying to call him after 3:00 then if he wasn't there? You said he would take their calls...talking about clueless...come on!
Your carrier's name will be on it also, but the manufacturer always puts their name on phones as well...look a little closer, dick.
Hey guys, take a look at the c1250i phone in 2003...
http://www.3g.co.uk/PR/Feb2003/4850.htm
Ok, I wasn't going to be mean, but I'm going to go ahead and say this.
If this IS the phone they intend to sell they will have a hard time selling it because it looks cheap. If you compare this phone to phones on the market it doesn't compare...
I know this is a strange thought at this point, but why is Calypso Wireless even trying to act as a manufacturer anyway? That will never work...they don't have manufacturing facilities (well, they said they did at one point, but they have since said they would go through a third party and they wrote the value of whatever facilities they have to near nothing). They are doing this through a third party, so how will that work when they go to deal with a phone carrier? The carrier will have to have guarantees from the manufacturer for defective phones and returns and shipments of phones, etc. Calypso Wireless will not be doing all that...it would be whoever actually manufactures the phones.
The only thing Calypso Wireless has is the ASNAP technology, so help me understand the reasoning behind them even discussing having models of phones that don't have ASNAP...what's the purpose? They would just be a middle man...why would a company go to Calypso Wireless for anything other than ASNAP when they could go to an actual manufacturer?
So, this leads to this question: Is Calypso Wireless going to be considered the manufacturer of these phones or are they just providing the ASNAP technology? If they ARE going to be considered the manufacturer, how are they going to be able to guarantee anything that only manufacturers can guarantee? Will carriers allow a company to sell them phones that is going through a third party? I got on this subject because I noticed the actual manufacturer's name was not on the phone in the picture and the manufacturer ALWAYS puts their name on the phones.
Where am I going with all this? Well, I don't think Calypso has a chance as a manufacturer because it doesn't make sense for them to be a manufacturer...so what are they doing? It seems to me the only chance they have is through licensing the technology (we haven't seen any hint of that) or simply selling the rights of the ASNAP technology to another company (if anyone wants it).
I guess looking at this phone on their website made me realize that they don't have a chance as a "manufacturer".
It looks somewhat generic to me too. Compared to phones that are on the market now it doesn't compare...but, of course, looks aren't the only thing that sells a phone either.
That's funny...I've seen other pics too that was SUPPOSED to be the C1250i and it wasn't the one they are showing now.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jetsmets,
Thanks for stealing my post...LOL. You must have liked it.
What I would like to point out is that all this is just "news"...of the non-importance type. I'm still waiting to hear about what happened with Franc Telecom. Money/revenue is what matters. Nothing has changed today...
I'm at a loss as to where you see anything that talks about 150 field trial phones also. The May announcement said they had prototypes available for demonstrations, and this announcement says demonstrations have begun...other than that, I don't see a single difference in the two.
Supposedly, they have been demonstrating the phone so I don't see the purpose in this press release except as an attempt to prop up the share price...looks like it worked a little temporarily.
However, notice we are drifting lower and lower. Are you guys happy with being in the .90 category on a day of a press release? If you like this game, continue holding.
Making great progress daily? I hope so! Calypso Wireless had better record revenues in the tens of millions in the fourth quarter! As far as we know they have an order for 100,000 phones due to be shipped out by October 20...that's what I expect to see happen unless otherwise disclosed.
The third time's a charm.
I wish you lots of luck.
I'm waiting to see when they start saying "we anticipate shipping products in the fourth quarter of 2006." When they do that, that will be my trigger to go into action...or when they show $0 revenues for this upcoming fourth quarter, which ever is earlier.
I tend to look at the market cap quite a bit, and personally I can't value Calypso Wireless at nearly $100 million as it is right now. I think a reasonable market cap for the stock is around half that (which would be around the .40 - .45 range)...just being honest. Obviously this could go much higher if anything REAL ever comes about, but until then I personally would not touch it for any amount over this range.
Calypso has always been priced too high, in my opinion, for a company that has no revenues and that never follows through with anything. I get the feeling that some investors are seeing that it is over-valued for this very reason and thus the drop in price to more reasonable levels.
I tend to think that someone's stop loss got kicked in gear today...the selling seemed to occur all at once. Dave8...did you sell?
WOW! Looks like some people are bailing! Ouch! I just hope some of you don't get burned too badly.
This stock would do fine, droy24, if they would just do ANYTHING that they say...has nothing to do with short selling or being on the pinks...it is CALYPSO!!!
When will the nuclear bomb awake you from your slumber?
Finalizing numbers for orders by Friday...that does not even make sense. Are they having an auction? LOL.
We have 1000, do I hear 1100? 1100?
We have 1100, do I have 1200? 1200?
plaintiff,
I don't need to call George or Alicia to know what they are going to tell me. If I was a serious shareholder, though, I would because I would be horribly upset with the organization...
