Satellite 2011 Conference
Our 30th anniversary international Conference and Exhibition, SATELLITE 2011, ended on the highest of high notes on Thursday, March 17. When one counts among its achievements the highest attendance in our history, more than 10,000 professional colleagues and peers, the largest exhibit hall ever, with 325 exhibitors covering more than 70,000 square feet of exhibit space, countless networking opportunities, and a top-shelf strategic and educational agenda of more than 60 sessions and 300 expert speakers, even an outsider would understand why we all were so delighted with what transpired 10 days ago in Washington.
But these are mere statistics! The real star of the show was the global satellite-enabled communications marketplace itself. At no time in recent memory have the prospects for continued relevance, growth, innovation, and profitability been more evident for this critical aspect of the world's telecommunications industry. As one of the editors of the Satellite Group at Access Intelligence remarked at midweek, "It's time to put away questions about economic downturns and financial pressures and focus instead on technological progress, new services, expanding markets, and all the other aspects of communications via satellite that have made this such an exciting marketplace for so many decades."
For us, after a deep breath and handshakes all around, the work resumes right away as we start planning for SATELLITE 2012, scheduled for the Washington Convention Center, March 12-15, 2012. Already we see great indicators of the continuing excitement that helps propel the world satellite marketplace. For example, the SATELLITE 2012 exhibit hall is substantially sold out and we are on pace to present an even larger array of exhibitors this time next year. On the content side, detailed congratulatory e-mails have arrived on my desk suggesting new topics and new speakers for our 2012 event, as well as confirming those sessions and tracks that remain relevant and timeless.
As in years past, soon we will announce our annual call for speakers and session ideas and begin the process of building the world's most important week of the year for the global satellite-enabled marketplace. As the international economy continues its upward track, it's quite possible that the nearly impossible will happen: We will gather together in Washington D.C., this time next year to witness and participate in an even more exciting prognosis for the services, products, and technologies that keep us all a vital part of the global phenomena we call communications via satellite.
