The solar eclipse is black with a bright ring around it.
That is neato. Did I predict that ? I know I may have said something like I am seeing something black, is an eclipse black ? I MAY have said that... eeeeerie. but no biggy, kinda cool.

Work Tolerance study: ( avg. guy )
1. 100 hours/week is a ridiculous standard and I really can only pull that off for a couple of weeks and could possibly work that up to one month for a deadline.
2. 80 hours / week is probably in the similar standing as 100.
3. 60 hours / week is a good standard if a real crunch is needed for one quarter.
4. 40 - 60 hours / week should be something that you can maintain if you take sufficient amounts of vacation
5. Less than 40 hours per week ... then you need to get creative like me.
6. 20 hours / week.... now you definately have to increase your bang per hour
less than 20 hours / week. Invent Invent Invent ( is one way anyways ). Of course with invention comes proving that it works and making it work which sends you back to number 1 on the list.
Comments:
It's a big globe: Yes but information travels at light speed and is available to most..... Sound travels a little slower so does anyone have 2 cups and a 6000 mile string ? LOL..
Light travels at a constant, finite speed of 186,000 mi/sec. A traveler, moving at the speed of light, would circum-navigate the equator approximately 7.5 times in one second. By comparison, a traveler in a jet aircraft, moving at a ground speed of 500 mph, would cross the continental U.S. once in 4 hours.

Elephants:
You knew that elephants were excellent, but did you also know …
Elephant's feet are sensitive, with padded soles that allow them to move silently through the bush. They walk on tiptoe, their steps cushioned by a large pad of fat between their foot bones and the soles of their feet.
An adult African elephant weighs about the same as three to six cars.
Elephants are not afraid of mice.
Elephants can move up to 25 mph, but they can't jump.
Elephants are very good swimmers.
An elephant's skin is so sensitive that elephants can feel flies land on their backs.
At the tips of their trunks, elephants have "fingers" to help them feel and probe: Asian elephants have one; African elephants have two.
An elephant's brain weighs about 12 pounds.
Elephants have six sets of teeth that move forward one set at a time, from the back jaw.
Elephants live in grasslands and jungles.
Elephants are on the move - feeding, grazing, and foraging - for 16 to 18 hours a day.
It takes baby elephants four to six months to learn to use their trunk.

(OTCBB:STTK)Smart-tek Solutions Inc. Announces United States Expansion Plans of Its Bird Flu
Containment and Monitoring System
CORTE MADERA, Calif., March 28, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Smart-tek Solutions Inc.
(OTCBB:STTK) today announced its expansion plans into the United States of its
RTAC-PM system to help with the monitoring of its poultry to limit the risk of
it being infected with H5N1 virus.
"The reception our system has received since we introduced it in China has been
simply overwhelming," said Perry Law, President of Smart-tek Communications Inc.
"We have received numerous requests for additional information on our avian flu
containment system from many different organizations and companies located
around the world, including many from the United States. Even though the bird
flu has yet to appear in the United States, the H5N1 virus is such a grave
economic concern that proactive measures need to be implemented and we believe
that our avian flu containment system would be a great tool in this process.
"Smart-tek's expansion strategy will be to evaluate potential candidates, enter
into licensee agreements to promote our product to proper levels of local, state
and federal governments," said Law. "It is crucial that we find an organization
that has the ability to promote our product to the right individuals in the
right departments. Therefore, we will be conducting extensive research on all
candidates to assure that we find the licensee that meet these exacting
criteria.
"This strategy has been successful so far in China, and we believe that it can
also be successful in the United States," said Law. "This deadly disease is
showing no bias toward any nation and it has the ability to bring disastrous
consequences to the American Poultry Industry. The United States has the
opportunity to be proactive and implement checks and balances before the bird
flu spreads to its flocks and limit the potential damages and we believe that we
can be a part of their solution."
The RTAC-PM system was designed for the livestock industry and is targeted
specifically for the poultry industry with user defined alerts that may assist
governmental agencies to monitor poultry movement. The RTAC-PM system
incorporates leading edge technology and is customized around customers'
requirements with the flexibility to adapt to various types of OEM products.

(OTCBB:EGEI) eGene Will be Granted Chinese Patent for DNA Analyzer Technology
IRVINE, Calif.--(Business Wire)--March 27, 2006--
eGene Inc. (OTCBB:EGEI) (the "Company"), developer of a
revolutionary high-performance genetic analysis technology, today
announced the Company has received confirmation from the China Patent
Office of its decision to grant a patent for "OPTICAL DETECTION IN A
MULTI-CHANNEL BIO-SEPARATION SYSTEM." This marks the Company's eighth
patent worldwide.
Ming S. Liu, acting CEO of eGene, made the announcement noting:
"We continue to strengthen our patent portfolio with the addition of
this Chinese patent. We believe our portable HDA-GT12(TM) Genetic
Analyzer has potential for any number of important uses, among them
controlling transmission of infectious diseases through use at
locations where DNA can be screened for viral or bacterial signatures;
assisting in the development of 'designer drugs' where a patient's DNA
is compared to that of a specific drug to determine if that drug will
be effective on that individual or if side effects might occur;
academic research; and criminal DNA analysis."
The HDA-GT12(TM) Genetic Analyzer is in use at more than 100
hospitals and research centers worldwide, including Taiwan's disease
control center, and has been developed to use solid-state light
sources and micro-optical collectors to make the system compact and
affordable. The system analyzes genetic fingerprinting of living
organisms through microsatellites, AFLP and RFLP. It performs RNA and
oligonucleotide quality checks, as well as fast DNA sample screening,
high-resolution DNA fragment analysis (2-5bp) and large DNA fragments
analysis (up to 10Kb). The system also analyzes the quality and
quantity of total RNA and cRNA, determines the efficiency of cRNA and
cDNA amplification reactions and ensures quality of fragmented cRNA.
The Company sells cartridges that are specific to the type of analysis
to be performed. All data is then received in digital form for
appropriate transmission and storage.

Cycling is a physical activity
Firstly, we must consider that for personal health purposes, cycling is a close to ideal form of physical activity.
It is:-
Aerobic Cycling uses major muscle groups (i.e. the legs!), raising heart rate to an extent that benefits health.
Low weight bearing Many people cannot do certain sports because of the pressure it puts on their joints (running is a good example). Because the cycle takes the weight of the body, much less pressure is exerted on the joints whilst cycling. This makes cycling a good form of exercise for those with certain joint problems Low skill Many people are put off doing certain sports because of the high level of skill that seems to be required (a good example is aerobic dance). Most of us know how to cycle, once you have learned you don’t forget. All you need is a cycle and a bit of confidence.
All these things combined make cycling about the best form of exercise that there is. And don’t just take our word for it (you would expect us to say that cycling is good for you.) The British Medical Association (amongst many others) says that the health benefits from cycling far outweigh any risks.
Having said all that, the usual health warning applies: if you haven’t been active for some time, consult with your doctor before you enter the world of serious cycling.
How active are we?
As a nation, we are not physically active enough to benefit our health. The Allied Dunbar National Fitness Survey was the first ever large-scale British survey that measured how fit the country is. The findings of this survey have been backed up by many other similar surveys since:
7 out of 10 women and 6 out of 10 men are not active enough to benefit our health.
Most of us think we are fit enough and active enough to be healthy. In reality, 70% of us are not fit and certainly not active enough to be healthy.
So why is being lazy so bad?
Not doing any exercise or physical activity dramatically increases our chance of having a number of diseases in later life:
Coronary Heart Disease,
High Blood Pressure,
Obesity, and
Cancer of the colon.

You're the Greatest, Charlie Brown is one of many prime-time animated TV specials based upon the popular comic strip Peanuts, by Charles M. Schulz. It was originally aired on the CBS network in 1979.
Instead of going to camp, Charlie Brown finds himself competing in the decathlon at the Junior Olympics. He begins rigorous training, watched every step of the way by Marcie, who is proud of him for competing. When the event begins, Charlie Brown finds himself competing against Marcie, who is entered as backup for their school, Freddy Fabulous from Fremont School, and the Masked Marvel (Snoopy in disguise) from "Ace Obedience School." He places well in some events, but does poorly in others. He makes up for it by winning both the discus and javelin, putting him in first place. All he must do to win the decathlon is win the 1500-metre run. Unfortunately, he closes his eyes to dream of his victory, and ends up running down the wrong path. Marcie wins the race and the decathlon, but everybody (especially Marcie) is proud of him for doing his best.
I missed this one:
Soros the 'philanthropist' and his Open Society Fund
Soros is no Robin Hood. He has been using his largesse, especially since his $1-2-billion profit from devaluing the pound and lira,
Breaks down the article:
to spread the sort of von Hayek "free market" economics that has destroyed nations.
"This article contradicts itself the way I read it???.... -dsd
The Open Society Fund, which was the first Soros foundation created in 1979, has, since December 1993, folded into the Open Society Institute-New York. This Institute, together with an Open Society Institute-Budapest formed in the same year, and now an Open Society Institute-Moscow, formed in 1995, are the sinews for 24 Soros national foundations in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as South Africa and Haiti. All of these foundations, of which George Soros is chairman, are dedicated to his concept of the open society and a "free market economy."
Complements the article:
As he puts it: "Open society does not preclude the pursuit of self-interest. On the contrary, in the absence of perfect knowledge, it is best left to the individual to define what his interests are, and it is best left to the market mechanism to reconcile those interests."
Is gold the next asset class to boom?
In the 1970s oil prices soared but were still below the heights reached today. But gold prices peaked in 1979 at more than twice their current levels. So is buying gold the next big investment opportunity?

Around the world commodity prices have been moving upwards over the past three years. It is not a straight line, but the trend is very, very clear.
Oil is easily the world's most important industrial commodity, and its price spike last week to almost $58 a barrel came as Goldman Sachs pointed to an upcoming multi-year period of high prices with a potential $105 per barrel peak.
Yet this investment story is well known. The art of good investment is to spot the asset class that should have risen with oil, but has not yet done so.
Gold is the obvious candidate. In the 1970s when oil prices surged to levels comparable with today and well beyond in relative rather than absolute terms, gold prices shot from $100 to $850 an ounce in 1979.
The link between black gold prices and the yellow metal is well established. What appears to have been holding gold back in recent years - although it is up by more than 60% in three years - is a perceived connection with the dollar as a proxy currency: if the dollar gets weaker then gold gets stronger and vice-versa.
This link will surely breakdown soon. The price of oil in terms of gold is still very cheap. It maybe that disruption in global capital markets due to higher oil prices is the catalyst that will change this relationship. It is certainly overdue, and an anomaly that markets will correct.
Then the investment funds that have driven commodity prices higher and higher this century will fasten upon gold as the missing commodity, and take prices very much higher.
How high could gold prices go? Well, to reproduce the previous high of 1979 - and most commodity cycles do eventually retrace a previous high before going higher - then gold would need to be $1,600 an ounce compared with $426 an ounce at the time of writing.
Interestingly gold is still very much out of favour in financial circles, and the conventional wisdom is that gold is for jewellery and not much else.
Correction: 1979: ( Leadership that worked ):
If you can find a better car ? buy it!" This was the challenge that became Chrysler's battle cry in its recovery fight, as Lee Iacocca began appearing in Chrysler's advertising during July 1980 touting the company's new line of K-cars. Developed on a limited budget, the Dodge Aries and the Plymouth Reliant, code-named the "K-cars", were designed to compete with imports and enjoyed early sales success, which Chrysler rode to profitability in 1982. Chrysler had cut its inventories by $1 billion, reduced white-collar staff by 50 percent, and cut its break-even point by 50 percent in drastic efforts to manage its finances.
The company began to turn around, and for the first time since 1973 it was profitable over four consecutive quarters, and recorded its first annual profit in five years (see Exhibit 3). In August 1983, Chrysler paid off its federal loan guarantees seven years early, at a profit of $350 million to the U.S. government.
1979: ( leadership ).
In the midst of Chrysler's impending financial crisis, John J. Riccardo was named Chairman in early October 1975. Responding to the growing financial troubles, Chrysler hired Lee A. Iacocca as the new Chrysler President in November 1978. Less than a year later, Mr. Riccardo resigned and Mr. Iacocca was elected Chairman of Chrysler on September 20, 1979.
1979: In the engineering world....
In Japan, much recent work has dealt with the design and construction of robot "hands" of very high dexterity of the sort which might be needed for fine precision work during delicate final assembly and other related tasks. Takese (1979) has developed a two-arm manipulator able to do tasks requiring cooperation between the arms - such as turning a crank, boring a hole with a carpenter's brace and bit, sawing wood, driving nails with a hammer, and several other chores. Okada (1979), also of the Electrotechnical Laboratory in Tokyo, has devised a three-fingered robot hand of incredible dexterity. Each finger has three joints. The hand of Okada's robot can tighten nuts on a threaded shaft, shift a cylindrical bar from side to side while holding it vertically, slowly twirl a small baton, and rotate a ball while holding it. Further research will extend into more complex movements such as tying a knot, fastening buttons, and using chopsticks.
Thoughts for the day:
It's kind of like trying to put a fence around IVY to hold it in or understand how it is going to grow.

1979 Factoids Continued: ( too old for me to get my mind around)
Darius I and Alexander the Great were the first to use Afghanistan as the gateway to India. Islamic conquerors arrived in the 7th century, and Genghis Khan and Tamerlane followed in the 13th and 14th centuries.
In the 19th century, Afghanistan became a battleground in the rivalry between imperial Britain and czarist Russia for control of Central Asia. Three Anglo-Afghan wars (1839–1842, 1878–1880, and 1919) ended inconclusively. In 1893 Britain established an unofficial border, the Durand Line, separating Afghanistan from British India, and London granted full independence in 1919. Emir Amanullah founded an Afghan monarchy in 1926.
During the cold war, King Mohammed Zahir Shah developed close ties with the Soviet Union, accepting extensive economic assistance from Moscow. He was deposed in 1973 by his cousin Mohammed Daoud, who proclaimed a republic. Daoud was killed in a 1978 coup, and Noor Taraki took power, setting up a Marxist regime. He, in turn, was executed in Sept. 1979, and Hafizullah Amin became president. Amin was killed in Dec. 1979, as the Soviets launched a full-scale invasion of Afghanistan and installed Babrak Karmal as president.
1979 Factoids:
After leading the Conservatives to an electoral victory in 1979, Thatcher became prime minister. She had pledged to reduce the influence of the trade unions and combat inflation, and her economic policy rested on the introduction of broad changes along free-market lines. She attacked inflation by controlling the money supply and sharply reduced government spending and taxes for higher-income individuals. Although unemployment continued to rise to postwar highs, the declining economic output was reversed. In 1982, when Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands, a British colony, Britain's successful prosecution of the subsequent war contributed to the Conservatives' win at the polls in 1983.
Thatcher's second government privatized national industries and utilities, including British Gas and British Telecommunications. Her antiunion policies forced coal miners to return to work after a year on strike. In foreign affairs, Thatcher was a close ally of President Ronald Reagan and shared his antipathy to Communism. She allowed the United States to station (1980) nuclear cruise missiles in Britain and to use its air bases to bomb Libya in 1986. She forged (1985) a historic accord with Ireland, giving it a consulting role in governing Northern Ireland.
In 1987 Thatcher led the Conservatives to a third consecutive electoral victory, although with a reduced majority. She proposed free-market changes to the national health and education systems and introduced a controversial per capita “poll tax” to pay for local government, which fueled criticisms that she had no compassion for the poor. Her refusal to support a common European currency and integrated economic policies led to the resignation of her treasury minister in 1989 and her deputy prime minister in 1990.
Disputes over the poll tax, which took effect in 1990, and over European integration led to a leadership challenge (1990) from within her party. She resigned as prime minister, and John Major emerged as her successor. In 1992 Thatcher retired from the House of Commons and was created Baroness Thatcher. In the mid-1990s Thatcher was publicly critical of Major's more moderate policies, and she has continued to criticize publicly Conservative and Labour positions she disagrees with.

Led by Stargell's offensive heroics and starter Bert Blyleven's masterful performance, the Bucs trounced their nemesis, 7-1, as the fans and players' wives danced jubilantly to the team's theme song, the disco hit "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge. Stargell, who hit .455 with two home runs and six RBIs in the NLCS to capture the series MVP trophy, went deep in the third inning to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead. Bill Madlock followed two batters later with another long ball to all but put the game on ice.
