We have very low moisture in our house because we run on all electric (it's a dry heat). The light and bathroom fan also run together when I turn it on. That's probably hurting the humidity in the bathroom too.

I pulled the tape off really quickly, but I'm going to try to pull it up right after putting down and smoothing the caulk (less than 1 minute is the goal). If that doesn't work I'll do it by hand.
I made sure I rinsed it every time really well too.
I cleaned that shower 3 times before I put the geocel on. No way it was dusty or dirty. I wanted to make sure that it looked perfect when I was done.
I'm using Geocel Pro Flex.

On the back of the tube it says "Guarenteed adhesion to brick, concrete, stone, all metals, glass, vinyl, treated and untreated wood, plastic, fiberglass, and asphaltic materials."
It doesn't mention drywall or plaster. Is that why it pulled away from the ceiling?
My initial opinion of Geocel...
I started laying down the caulk tonight in the shower. I like to tape the area that I'm caulking to make sure that the finished lines look good when I'm done. I pull the tape up while it's still wet and the lines look much better/straighter/more even. I did this when I did the toilets in our house and it looks really good (using GE caulk).
Tonight I thought I'd give it a try to get a head start on tomorrow's caulking. I wanted to do the ceiling where the ceiling met the shower. I put down the masking tape on the ceiling and on the shower to form nice lines all around the top of the shower. I smoothed it out with a caulking tool from HD and tried to pull the tape up. When I pulled the tape up, it pulled the Geocel right up with it. I didn't have the same problem when I did the toilets. It seems to me that the Geocel dries way too fast...too fast for me to even pull up the tape 3-4 minutes after I put down the caulk. Now the caulk lines aren't smooth on the ceiling, and it looks really bad.
I want it to look nice and so I use the tape, but the Geocel is drying too fast. It's a pain to get off of your fingers too!
Phil, help me out...what am I doing wrong? I'm thinking about taking back the other two tubes I have and going back to HD and picking up the GE caulk that I took back when you told me to get Geocel.

I called all 3 references that he gave me and they all checked out. Everyone was very pleased with the work and 2 of the 3 have had him do work multiple times.
I plan to drive down to one of the houses tomorrow morning to check out he roof job he did on a house. If that checks out, then I'm planning on going with him.

What if I offered to give $825 ($100 more than the bid) for the job upon completion of the job, with no downpayment. That way he has extra incentive to do a good job and probably is less likely to care about the downpayment. Also, I don't pay him until the job is done which works out better for me.
I think I remember Phil mentioning doing this before. What do you think?

I suspect you will be looking at a new roof in the next 5 years so aesthetics may only matter for a short time.
My thoughts exactly.
He's spending next week in our neighborhood putting on a roof so I think that may be why is keep the bid low. He doesn't have to make special trips. He can just drop by for 30 minutes or so, do what he needs, and then go back to his roofing job.
He's painting corner to corner. I made sure he did that. I'm not totally sure about two coats on the wall, but I'll check on that.
He said he's doing 3 feet of step flashing I believe and 18 inches each on the roof and under siding of the ice and water shield.
I'll have to check on whether the paint is in his price. I think it is, but I need to make sure.
The gutter cost is just for them to deliver the gutter. He's going to put it up as part of his bid. It's going to happen like Quasi said. They make it, drop it off, and he installs it.
He plans to reuse the old shingles, but if they break or are unusable, he'll throw in some new ones where needed. He says he has some shingles that are charcoal. They won't match perfectly (because mine are 13-15 years old), but they'll be pretty close. It's on the back of the house so I'm not really that worried about them matching perfectly. Should I be?
Here is another estimate that I got on Friday (sent me an email today with the actual contract). What do you guys think about this one? He's actually addressing the cause of the problem and he's much cheaper than the other guys.
For such a cheap price, I'm pretty impressed with the way he's handled himself so far in our dealings and he sent me a list of references too. I plan to call them tomorrow.

3. replace roofing with step flashing to protect exterior wall
4. replace existing siding to match
5. tar and seal any locations deemed necessary.
6. rehang new back seamless gutter and downspout.(cost of gutter to be billed aprx. $2.50 per ft.)

Yes we had a smaller heat pump before (I'm guessing 12 SEER) and yes I believe you're right on the 2nd part too.
I have changed one thing about how we heat the home as well. The past two years, I've programmed the thermostat to drop by about 6 degrees during the day when my wife and I are not home. I changed it to 2 degrees this year, because I had multiple sources (including the installer) tell me that it is more efficient to have smaller changes in the programs.
I'm not sure if it's making a difference, but I'm tired of it.

It's not a government subsidy. We have our own hydro plant in our town that supplies all of our electricity usage. Hydro is far lower cost just about anything else.

My new heat pump
I got a new Amana 14 SEER heat pump last June when our old one went bust. (Check back in that time frame if you don't remember.)
Well the electric bills were pretty good throughout the summer, but it's been horrible during the winter! My bills are up 30%-50% over the last 3 months.
What should I do? I bought the lifetime parts and labor warranty.
I paid $7.05+tax per tube for my Geocel at the local lumber supply store. So it's $1-$2 than the DAP & GE stuff. Hopefully it's worth it.

I do NOT plan on going through insurance to for the repairs. I don't want my premiums to go up for such a small repair job (my deductible is $1k).

None of them have addressed the roof problem. Even though I asked #2 specifically (which was actually the last estimate that I got...I just ranked them by price), he still didn't give me a quote on repairs for the roof.

I had to go to a local lumber supply store to get my Geocel yesterday.
HD didn't have it. It said on the Geocel website that 84 Lumber carried it at our local store, but they didn't.

It was definitely an ice dam. I still haven't had it fixed yet, but I'm getting a couple more estimates this week.
Homeowners insurance company said that my rates would go up no matter what the size of the claim. Therefore, I'm a little more sensitive on price. The guy I was going to go with was $1650, the next best guy was $1450, and then I also had a $400 estimate (which I won't go with). If I can get it down to ~$1,000 for a guy that knows what he's doing, I'll be happy.

I just bought GE silicone caulk 3 hours ago. I guess I'll take it back to HD. I think they have the Geocel stuff at 84 Lumber which is right next door to HD.
I actually have some marble cleaner that I bought for a marble sink top, but I still haven't used it. I guess this will force me to clean that top.
The main thing is that I'm pretty sure that the shower floor is made of Terrazzo like someone said yesterday.
The plan is to start with bleach and see how that works. This'll be nice because I have to clean the mold with bleach anyway. If the bleach doesn't work on the floor then i'll try to sand it.
Phil, should I use the orbital or no?
So I tested a small part of the floor with sandpaper last night. I used 60 grit in one spot and 150 in another. Any suggestion on which one would be better? The area where I used 60 grit looks better, but I don't want to damage anything.
Also, could I use my orbital sander or should I do it by hand?
Quick marble cleaning question.
I have a marble (I think) shower in the master bathroom. Supposedly it was a big selling point in the home, but it didn't matter to me because it looks terrible. Any idea how I can clean it? I just finished taking out all of the caulk that was used to hide the mold and mildew. Now what can I do to clean the floor and the mold? Any special cleaners I should use?

Unilens Vision Reports Record Second Quarter Revenue, and Royalty Income
24th Consecutive Profitable Quarter Earns $.08 Per Diluted Share
LARGO, Fla., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Unilens Vision Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: UVICF; TSX Venture Exchange: UVI), which develops, licenses, manufactures, distributes and markets specialty contact lenses, today reported its operating results for the second quarter ended December 31, 2008 (FY2009).
Net sales, excluding royalty income, increased 1.2% to $1,530,242 in FY2009 second quarter, compared with $1,512,361 in the previous year second quarter (FY2008). The increase was primarily a result of continued growth of the Company's C-Vue brand disposable specialty contact lenses, sold exclusively to licensed eye care professionals.
FY2009 second quarter net income was $358,945, compared with $375,915 in the previous year second quarter. Excluding a one-time favorable tax adjustment of $44,422 in the previous year second quarter, FY2009 second quarter net income increased 8.3%.
Royalty income for the FY2009 second quarter increased 3.0% to a record second quarter of $666,569 compared with $646,849 in the prior-year quarter. Sales of licensed products by our licensee Bausch & Lomb continue to increase, resulting in continued royalty income growth.
FY2009 second quarter income before taxes increased 11.9% to a record second quarter of $606,717 compared with $542,257 in the prior-year quarter. After recording net income tax expense of $247,772, Unilens reported net income of $358,945 for the quarter, or $0.08 per diluted share. In the FY2008 second quarter, the Company reported net income of $375,915, or $0.08 per diluted share, which included income tax expense of $166,342.
