Study: The Amount of Copper Needed for EVs Is ‘Impossible for Mining Companies to Produce’
A recent study from the University of Michigan has shed light on a critical challenge facing the global transition to electric vehicles: the inability of copper mining to keep pace with the growing demand.
Engineering & Technology reports that copper, a crucial component in electricity generation, distribution, and storage, is fundamental to the successful implementation of policies aimed at promoting the adoption of EVs. However, a recent study from the University of Michigan, titled “Copper mining and vehicle electrification,” has revealed that the current rate of copper production is insufficient to meet the projected demand for the metal in the coming years.
According to GlobalData, there are over 709 operational copper mines worldwide, with the Escondida mine in Chile being the largest, producing an estimated 882,100 tons of copper in 2023. Despite this seemingly huge output, the rapid pace of electrification globally is outstripping the mining industry’s ability to keep up. In fact, the authors state that, “We show in the paper that the amount of copper needed is essentially impossible for mining companies to produce.”
The Michigan study highlights the fact that an EV requires three to five times more copper than traditional gas or diesel cars, not to mention the additional copper needed for upgrades to the electricity grid. As Professor Adam Simon from the University of Michigan points out, “A normal Honda Accord needs about 40 pounds of copper. The same battery electric Honda Accord needs almost 200 pounds of copper
The researchers analyzed 120 years of global data on copper production, dating back to 1900, and modeled the likely copper production for the remainder of the century. They compared this with the projected copper requirements for the US electricity infrastructure and vehicle fleet to transition to renewable energy. The study concluded that renewable energy’s copper needs would exceed the current production capacity of copper mines.
Between now and 2050, the world will need to mine 115 percent more copper than has been mined in all of human history up until 2018, just to meet current copper needs without considering the green energy transition. To meet the copper demands of electrifying the global vehicle fleet, as many as six new large copper mines must be brought online annually over the next several decades, with about 40 percent of the production from these new mines being required for EV-related grid upgrades.
The study suggests that instead of fully electrifying the entire US fleet of vehicles, focusing on manufacturing hybrid vehicles might be a more feasible approach. Professor Simon notes, “We know, for example, that a Toyota Prius actually has a slightly better impact on climate than a Tesla. Instead of producing 20 million EVs in the US and, globally, 100 million battery EVs each year, would it be more feasible to focus on building 20 million hybrid vehicles?”
Ok buddy. If you say so. Lmao 🩺🩻🥼👨⚕️ Just shut up and take the next one too!
Are you sure about laundering money? Lmao
I’m a little confused. Are you predicting that this New York Circus case is going to stand and weather appeals if necessary?
Hey dip shit. Can’t you read? Seniors are addressed. “ Everyone but your dumb ass knows your jabs did nothing for the healthy but make them unhealthy.”
They fall under category of those who had serious underlying illness or unhealthy.
By the way thank you for confirming your approximate age. Your indoctrination confirmed. Lmao😂😂😂😂
I have. Lmao.
As I mentioned previously. No one is questioning whether they can or cannot do. Also again it’s obvious that you think they are and defend their right to do so. I’m glad you admit it. No on confuses anything moron. No one has argued whether or not they can do it. Rather what is being discussed is whether they ARE DOING IT. LMAO. It is nice to see a LEFTIST LIKE YOURSELF ACTUALLY defending them doing it. Congratulations you just proved my point! 😂🤣🤣. What it actually comes down to is THAT YOUR LEFTIST CRONIES KNOW YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE YO COMPETE IN DEBATES.

It’s so absurd I can’t believe that you could POSSIBLY BE THAT IGNORANT. LMAO. No one is concerned about the verdict, if against Trump. Everyone but leftists COMMIES knows this case doesn’t stand a snowballs chance in hell of standing. 🤡🎪🤡🎪🤡🎪🤡🎪🤡🎪🤡🎪🤡🎪🤡🎪🤡

Trump’s well-attended Bronx rally should be ‘wake-up call’ for Biden: Dem ex-Gov. Paterson
Donald Trump’s well-attended rally in The Bronx last week is a “wake-up call” for President Biden and the Democrats, said ex-New York Democratic Gov. David Paterson on Sunday.😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Paterson, who also previously served as chairman of the state Democratic Party, noted that a recent Siena College poll shows the former Republican president is in “striking distance to actually winning the state of New York” — also another warning sign for Team Biden and the Democratic Party’s ticket this fall.
“This is a wake-up call to the Democratic Party, who just seems to think that you can criticize what Trump did four years ago and that that will be enough,” Paterson said on 77 WABC radio’s “The Cats Roundtable” show with host John Catsimatidis.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Still think there were only 500 who attended? Lmao.
Lmao. Leftists only hope is to Drop boxes, unverified voters and manipulating voting machines. You know, more of what they did the last round. Perhaps a new virus. 🤣. They’re FUCKED.
President Joe Biden, also known as “Scranton Joe” has been facing troubles, consisting of low support and enthusiasm from Democrat voters in Pennsylvania, leaving party officials perplexed.
“I’m surprised that things aren’t going so well,” Altmire told the Hill. “If there’s any place where he should be doing well or better than President Trump, it’s Pennsylvania because of the personal connection, because of the work he’s been putting in for decades, and because the state is trending blue.”🤣

BBC Calls Latest Trump Trial “Weakest Criminal Case” Says No One Is Watching A Circus With Manipulated Acts
The people on the other side of the pond are noticing what’s happening to Donald Trump.
Today, the BBC published an article detailing a high-stakes trial that seems straight out of an American blockbuster. It is filled with sensational details and features a former president as the defendant.
The BBC reports that there’s hardly a more circus-like courtroom scenario imaginable, with Donald Trump, one of the world’s most powerful people and now a candidate facing allegations of an awkward sexual encounter with a porn actress.
They boil down the ongoing proceedings as the “weakest criminal case” for a booking-keeping offense.
The BBC reports,
We can add to all that the widely held view that the Manhattan trial is by far the weakest of the four criminal cases Donald Trump faces.
It is built on a bookkeeping offence – the alleged falsification of reimbursements to Michael Cohen – the man who paid off Stormy Daniels – as legal fees rather than as hush-money payments.
The case relies on what would ordinarily be a misdemeanour being elevated to the more serious category of felony because of the alleged attempt to improperly influence an election.
The BBC noted that most Americans have reported feeling “bored” or “angry” rather than interested in the trial. Polls conducted during the proceedings show similar trends. With the jury’s verdict approaching, pundits and pollsters who initially expected a major national moment in Manhattan’s criminal courtroom now believe the outcome, whichever way it goes, might be more of a letdown than a dramatic conclusion.
And yet, despite the weeks of testimony, the millions of pages of documents, and the ranks of live TV cameras assembled outside to record the history-making spectacle of the first criminal trial of a former US leader, the American public appears strangely detached.
In a recent YouGov/Yahoo News poll, just 16% of respondents said they’d been following the trial “very closely”, with even those who said they were taking a mild interest in proceedings coming in at only a third of those surveyed.
More Americans said the trial made them feel “bored” or “angry” than interested. Other polls taken during the trial to gauge attention being paid have found similar results.
At the end of their report asking whether Americans are watching the Trump trial, the BBC points out that the efforts to “get Trump” may be falling flat because the general public isn’t as “prudish” as detractors of Trump are hoping for.
There are some who see the public’s seeming indifference to the case as not as surprising as it may appear.
Firstly, Donald Trump is already a known quantity with a long history of courting outrage. Infamy is part of the brand and perceptions of whether he has committed wrongdoing divide on sharply political lines.
And secondly, the American voter is far less prudish than many assume, a point brought home by another sexual scandal from a different political age.
It’s a good sign when the BBC is noticing the charges against Trump are ridiculous.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Someone as STUPID as you could NEVER embarrass me. Lmao. Pretty soon you will crawl your little ass into your hole. You will be shown to be the STUPID FOOL you are. MUCH More so then is already on display.
The Trump campaign will launch “Veterans and Military Families for Trump” on Sunday, which is a coalition with over 175 endorsements from decorated Veterans, Gold Star families and more ahead of Memorial Day, the Daily Caller has first learned.
The campaign release for Sunday, obtained Saturday by the Caller, stated: Today, President Donald J. Trump announces, “Veterans and Military Families for Trump”, a Coalition with over 175 endorsements from decorated Veterans, Gold Star families, and heroes who love our country. This and every Memorial Day we honor and pay tribute to those patriots of service who have died. This somber day of remembrance should also inspire us to reflect and be grateful for those of service who remain and those still serving today while risking everything to defend our great nation.
The campaign says the coalition is launching ahead of Memorial Day, and will send out a release touting Trump’s military record compared to President Joe Biden and heavily criticizing Biden’s role as Commander-in-chief.
“UNLIKE BIDEN, PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS HONORED AMERICA’S VETERANS,” the release will read. Followed by another bullet point that states: “Meanwhile, President Trump made historic accomplishments for America’s veterans.”
The release goes on to mention healthcare for veterans, improving benefits for veterans, preventing veteran suicide and providing better mental health care, and reforming the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The campaign then rips Biden for his treatment of gold star families, saying his policy mistakes have emboldened terrorists, and saying Biden has chosen to politicize the U.S. military.
“To every Veteran, ‘you are America’s greatest living heroes, and we will cherish you now, always, and forever,” Trump states in the release.
