and AAPL has gone up with the market for the most part in the last four years...all you got to do is look at a 10 year chart on RIMM/BBRY, NOK, DELL, etc to understand why AAPL is holding all that cash....this all that cash AAPL has, I doubt it will plummet as much as the other tech companies that I listed will...so I'd say it's a wise move

I never said acquisitions are a sign of bad things to come, I said it could be a sign of slower growth...and I know Apple has made many acquisitions, but they are typically small companies...Apple has over $100 billion in cash, so when I say Apple making an acquisition could be a sign that Apple's growth is slowing, I'm talking about a big acquisition, $20+ billion
I assume you're long Apple...my advise to you is, regardless of the points you just made, never fall in love with a stock.
An Ex-Apple Employee's Thoughts on Today's Meeting
http://www.bloomberg.com/video/an-ex-apple-employee-s-thoughts-on-today-s-meeting-G7fE6CWhT4eN_OMOO3GsQw.html
when Apple can't come up with anything good organically and they have to make an acquisition, that's when you know the party is over, they already implemented a dividend, which is good and bad, but many times for a tech company a dividend is a sign that growth is slowing...that's exactly why the top management of Apple are hoarding cash because they have been in the tech business for years and many with Apple during the hard times and know that in order to survive in the tech world you have to continue to innovate, and when you run out of ideas, acquire growth through M&A...
smart move for Apple in my opinion to hoard cash...all you gotta do is look at RIMM/BBRY, Nokia, etc and you see what happens when the part is over...
IBM would be in the same boat if they had stayed in the PC Business, I was talking to an IBM recruiter at an engineering job fair a few weeks ago actually about how IBM's smartest move was to get into consulting/IT...isn't Dell trying to go private now?lol

What a POS...
all I know is, I got two friends who own Apple stock, one with 100 shares, the other with 150 shares, and I was telling them last year when AAPL hit $600-$650 to sell...why? Well because Samsung and other competitors will continue to copy Apple's products and make them just as good for cheaper, and in emerging markets such as Asia/China where the most growth is...that's crucial, because sure most people in emerging markets want Apple products for the brand name/quality and to be apart of Steve Job's Vision, but at the end of the day it often comes down to price...and when you buy a Samsung/HTC or another handset that uses Android, it's going to work well enough for the cheap price.
Apple needs to make cheaper phones for emerging markets and lower-end consumer to prevent the Android platform from completely taking over and to prevent Samsung from getting stronger...
Also...the other reason why I told my friends to sell at $600ish is Apple's market cap...sure AAPL is cheap at $700 on a valuation basis, but I think that market cap was almost $700 Billion when the stock was around $700/share...and sure $1,000/share wouldn't be too expensive either, but once you get a market cap around the $500+ billion range, it's not as easy to move higher
A guy I work with has 40 shares of Apple and I was telling him the same stuff...I interviewed last fall in September for a wealth management internship and the owner of the firm was also super bullish on AAPL and had a big position and I told him the same thing I told the other three during my interview, and guess what, I found out he sold his AAPL position around $500 a month or two ago lol...
If I were a AAPL share holder and had 100 shares or so, I'd SELL at $550 and forget about it...

if the market goes higher I'm shorting HomeDepot (HD), I think it's safe to short it here, but I have a feeling the market will melt higher in the short term so I'm thinking I might as well wait
https://www.google.com/finance?q=NYSE%3AHD&ei=mZ8uUZD6G8q3qAGbQw
well I'm pretty sure Samsung is more concerned about taking market share away from Apple more than increasing its profit, similar to Amazon's strategy against Best Buy.
However Apple has some of the best brand loyalty, and has $100 billion in cash, so if growth slows down too much, they will make a strategic acquisition to stay strong.
