FPG,
FPG,
FPG, I can understand if you don't want to admit defeat. Maybe the current bump-up in PC sales is temporary.
Eventually the world will come around and start doing most of its productivity work on smartphones and tablets. Just have faith ...

Michael,
FPG,
Unkwn, good luck trying to get him to reveal anything.

Unkwn,
Unkwn, I don't know about you, but I'll never get a so-called "phablet." Too big to fit in my pocket, too small to serve as a tablet.
Why so many people prefer "phablets" over full-size tablets, I still don't really get. Cheaper? More portable?
Tenchu
Beamer, for Verizon, if you go near or over the limit, they will send you warning messages. Plus they also allow you to retroactively change your data limit for the current billing cycle.
That can help you avoid overage charges, although I wonder why they don't just make that automatic. I guess they still want to profit from those who neglect to do that.
Tenchu
FPG, it's nice how you categorically reject everything that was said by PC makers like HP and Dell, despite the positive results they have reported in PC sales.
By the way, INTC is at $30. Maybe they'll even close at or above that level today. Must be really uncomfortable for you to watch. Kind of like Miami Heat fans last night, LOL ...

Chipguy,
wthdik2,
AG,
AG,
INTC above $29 in AH trading ...
Take that, Goldman Sucks and all the other idiots who thought the PC was dead dead dead ...
Tenchu
AG,
Score a victory for the government! Thanks to them, Intel is no longer the monopoly it once was, and AMD can finally compete on an even playing field.
Can't wait to see more tech innovation coming from Europe as a result of this victory!

Beamer,
Quick! Someone tell Goldman Sucks to double-down on their INTC "short position" ... LOL
FYI BQ, this is the original post. JMP Securities downgraded INTC based in part on rumored troubles with the FIVR:

Here is ChipGeek's excellent response to the minor controversy that the analyst stirred up:

BQ, according to one of the comments on that article, VRM was already hard to do on 22nm, and it's even harder on 14nm.
I can't verify the accuracy of that statement, but whatever the reason, VRM seems to be giving Intel more trouble than it's worth.

This is big, David. An Intel-based tablet that is thinner than the iPad Air. I never thought that was possible, especially with a Broadwell (as opposed to Atom, for instance). And it runs Windows!
However, it's slightly heavier, probably because of the bigger screen. It's also a concept prototype, so who knows whether the version that ships to consumers will actually have the same dimensions.
But this renews my hope that Intel will eventually succeed in mobile devices. Maybe not smartphones in the near future, but definitely tablets and convertible laptops.

OT Dew,
FPG,
Borusa,
WT, that looks similar to 3D memory stacking (3DS) technology that I've seen for increasing server memory capacity.
The problem is that you need to stick the SoC silicon and the memory silicon into the same package, then have wires that go through the package layers to each chip. And to accomplish that, you'd need to change some of the fab and assembly steps. (See slide 18.)
Or you could just build the SoC and memory silicon chips in the same fab, then assemble them together. You're right, it would be nice if Intel applied this, since Intel's gonna make its own chips anyway. A lot of "middle man" steps can be eliminated just by keeping it all in-house.
Tenchu
Borusa, you still going off about "secret rebates"? Wow.
By the way, how did Prince Cuomo's extortion attempt turn out? I don't hear anything about the new "Silicon Valley" that he was trying to create in Albany.
You should be more outraged over that than some marketing program from Intel that has done nothing to stem the challenges from ARM.
Tenchu
FPG, I'm so glad Neelie the Terrible, Prince Cuomo, and the other "ends justify the means" regulators saw things the way you did.
Because if they didn't, we would have never seen the rise of ARM. Intel would have priced them out of the market using the same tricks they used against poor AMD.
As a result, cell phones and tablets would be too expensive, too power-hungry, and nowhere near as ubiquitous as they are today. Laptops would still weigh 5+ pounds, and desktop PCs would continue to rule the industry.
Keep up the good work!

Borusa,
Morrowinder, it's always been a money and power grab when it comes to this stuff.
Remember all of the arguments that FPG and the other "ends justify the means" advocates made? That what Intel did was illegal because the government said so, not because there was any evidence that free market competition was being suppressed?
Now these same folks are celebrating the rise of ARM, while conveniently forgetting that ARM rose without the help of the government and without the help of these antitrust regulations and lawsuits. That's how free market competition works, not by how much you can hinder the market leader, but by how much the innovators can meet the changing needs of our high-tech society.
Tenchu
Morrowinder, this is somewhat OT, but I find it ironic that Intel has to pay billions to settle antitrust lawsuits, while GM has to pay tens of millions to settle their recall scandal.
Cause you know, charging too little for your chips is a much more heinous crime than covering up manufacturing defects in cars that weigh two tons each and can travel down highways at 80 MPH.
Ends justify the means, especially for Government Motors.

It looks like Surface Pro is now larger, thinner, and probably closer to a PC laptop in functionality than ever before.
Can't wait to take a look at this thing at the local Microsoft Store. I doubt I'll buy one, but I think for many people this can serve as a good working hybrid between a tablet and a laptop.
