Napster Faces Stiff Competition

After acquiring Pressplay online music service in May 2003, Napster (NasdaqGM: NAPS - News) updated its service with value-added features and launched itself as a paid service under the Napster brand name. The subscription service enables fans to freely sample the world's largest and most diverse online collection of music and experience the largest number of features. This service allows users to legally play, download, and burn (copy) online digital music legally.
The company has marshaled support for its service from leading device manufacturers such as Dell (NasdaqGS: DELL - News), iRiver, and Creative Labs. Furthermore, Napster is targeting the music-enabled cell phone market. Partnering with Ericsson (NasdaqGS: ERIC - News), Napster has put together a demo of a wireless solution and is in discussions with major carriers.
Napster faces stiff competition because many big players have concentrated on the emerging digital music market. The company competes against RealRhapsody, MusicMatch, Apple Computer's (NasdaqGS: AAPL - News) iTunes Music Store, and Sony (NYSE: SNE - News) Connect in the U.S. The competition is likely to intensify with the entry of giants such as Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT - News) and Starbucks (NasdaqGS: SBUX - News) in this space. On the international front, the company is likely to face pressure from Apple, which has launched its music service iTunes in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
Early stages of this business. IMHO he is building the user base at a controlled level right now and not worrying about exploding the user base or revenue quite yet....I think things will come with this in time...I dont know if they can quite forecast or predict any numbers since the user base is growing and it looks as though they are switching web advertisers often to try and harness the user growth...As to why he does not answer emails and phone calls? Thats beyond my understanding...might be more behind the scenes than we are aware of going on
I think they need to start some affiliate marketing for their freshtunes and offer some type of monthly subscription...or at lease advertise it more on hypster.com

I agree with you and wish they would be more transparent...but they are a pink...I think at the current they are building the number of users up, gaining awareness truly seeing how to make revenue off of the current and forward user base...I think down the road they will implement another version to allow for those who would like to download their playlists (pay) and those who like to keep it for their social networking sites....
I guess time will tell but all I know is that users and page views amount to a lot...hopefully the pps will reflect it
I agree with that...I think they are shopping it right now. in one of their plans they stated they were looking to realize investment in the next 6-12 months....I think they should definetly offer the version 1 and version2 (paid) form of hypster. Or a monthly subscription of some sort to factor in their frestunes...
however, there are web companies that dont charge anything except web based ad revenue...and still make some coin

to tell you the truth...no..I got an email response the other day in regards to my question about possibly paying to have my playlist downloadable to my ipod....they responeded with the suggestion of using their freshtunes, rightfully so..
i emailed it to them using help@hypster.com maybe if you do that they will answer im guessing just call their ir number or send Michael a message on facebook
of course they need additional features i emailed again today my thoughts of how they could incorporate puting lyricing in the equation...any ideas you have just email or call the ir on the bottom of prs and leave a message in hopes they check it...gltya
