Thanks, Not Bill.
NYX has turned into a very long term investment, it seems.
Mel
Hi, NB and Metro,
I've been out of the loop for a while, and I've tried not to watch my investments bite for the last few months. Today, I looked at NYX. I'm still in it, and I'm wondering what the heck is going on - I've taken a major hit here. Am I going to lose my entire investment if I continue to wait? Or should I bail out now and accept the losses?
Info on what we can expect at this point since I've no clue would be appreciated.
Mel
Not Bill,
GL as well. Been watching the fires, and all family is in L.A area. I'll take the huricanes here over your fires. Hope they get it under control soon.
It'll be nice to see what happens with NYX after tomorrow.
Well, I'm still here and finally maybe we'll get somewhere.
OT: Metro, Of course, I don't even know what a drug pipeline chart is, but here's an article that may be the reason for keeping ACAD afloat during these dips. OH, and earnings (or the lack thereof) beat by around 10 cents yesterday.

While a couple of my stocks (not including NYX which doesn't make sense to me) have taken a hit during the last 30 days, my ACAD has held up well. It doesn't take much of a hit on the down days. I would've thought the opposite.
Seriously thinking of getting out of NYX at this point. If I can find something else I'm comfortable with that may help gain some of the losses back, I'm switching out.
I know what you mean. I already have too much of my portfolio in this stock. I just can't make myself buy more even though it would really help my cost.
I'm still here as well. I've been out of town or otherwise occupied. If we get a pop at earnings, I may take the chance of selling, and buying back in lower to cover some of my losses. What do you guys think? Of course, with my luck, I'll sell and it'll never go back down which is why I've not applied the strategy thus far.
I didn't want to post today before the close. Thought I might jinx it. Glad to see there wasn't a sell-off at EOD.
I hope everyone had a great 4th! We did the typical hot dog thing regardless of the humidity here and had a relaxing day. Would have been fun to be out on a boat down at the coast, however.
At least we're green today...if it follows the normal pattern, we'll close down a few cents. Hope I'm wrong.
I missed it; what did he say? We've been busy with Drs appts; My husband is very ill, but I use this an an escape.
Short squeeze ranking
On this website, they show a short squeeze ranking of 1. Earlier this year, it was in the 200s. Can one of you tell me exactly what that means? I'm guessing a ranking of 1 means the stock is ripe for a short squeeze, but I can't be sure with my limited knowledge
I'm going to wait on the iPhone. Just started a new contract with Sprint, so I figure by the time it's over, the third generation will be out that will cook dinner, walk the dog, and go grocery shopping for me.
It's sure not over. I have no choice but to hang in there....painful as it may get.
Metro: LOL! I'll bet whoever posted that is eating crow now. I can see why he/she said it at the time (January?), however. NYX just doesn't play by the rules.
Yeah....woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe that should be our mentality...sort of a reverse psychology on ourselves. If it goes up, we call it a POS, and if it goes down, we celebrate.
Not Bill, at what point will you decide to get back in? Do you have a target in mind?
I can't remember the last time I made a mistake this bad. I'm just not sure what to do at this point. I'm down 26 per cent.
Guess not.
Thanks - I'm wondering if NYX will stay green today.
Glad to see you're still posting, Not Bill. Looks like you saved yourself some pain by getting out for now. I'm sure if I did the same thing, the stock would go up or something.
The nearest Apple store here is an hour and a half away (100 miles or so). Who is carrying the phone? Is it Verizon? I haven't been keeping up. I try not to look at the Apple stock because when I bought NYX, I had narrowed it to two and Apple was the one I didn't choose. Are you in the L.A. area?
My stepson received his award yesterday from NASA. From what I hear, it was for outstanding scientific achievement, but I'm not sure yet if it was for the Mars Rover - Opportunity or the Deep Impact mission. I was lucky to be at the Deep Impact Family Event and watch the meteor explode in 2005. We are very proud.
Good luck on your trades.
Not Bill
I probably would've sold by now as well, but I don't have the guts. I'm just not sure I could make the money back elsewhere. Good Luck!
I sure hope you're right. It has been painful for those of us who have been holding a while. If I could, I'd buy more in the next couple of days. I'm not just upset at my losses; I'm upset at myself for not buying something else and then buying into this now. When I bought this, I was debating between this and AAPL, so you see where I'm headed. Just didn't have the funds to get into both.
Well, I think I said $80 was the bottom, but I just read J. Cramer's answer to someone on stockpickr.com, and even he said maybe $72-75. Don't know if you read it, but here's the blurb:
"People should understand something. many many people
since i started this public portfolio have BEGGED me to
declare defeat on stocks.. I declared defeat three
times when faced with this pressure last year: ALCAN,
BOL, and IR. each time the stock went down a point or
two after i declared defeat. Then they went up from 100
to 50%. If people think i am going to declare defeat
when i think that the NYX can go to $72-75 where i
believe it will be a gift they are sorely mistaken. I
can't sell and buy back for AAPLUS but when i write
that it is going lower --and i write it ten
times--what's the takeaway--that it is going higher?
That the hectoring alleged fans who want me to declare
defeat are going to be happy? If i read this column in
the last month or two i would say "cramer hates NYX for
now, but will buy it when it goes lower." How can i be
more clear? Do people want me to say "I am an idiot?"
Why? Because i said a stock i like is going down??
Pretty gutsy if you ask me....SHORT IT FOR HEAVEN"S
SAKES"
Metro, I remember you saying you thought $78 was the floor. Hope you're right. I was way off on wishful thinking.
Thanks!
I wish I knew enough about options. When I look at my options screen and it has "buy, sell, exercise, to open, to close", it's like reading a foreign language.
Well, what is everyone's plan at this point? If I get out, I may never make up for the losses.
Not Bill
GLW hit your price target today. I jumped in around 24.30....early, yes, because it dropped a buck after I bought it. Glad I have this one with NYX being such a pain.
OT: We have no idea what channels we have (around 1700 of them I suppose on cable) but I'd like to find NASA TV. My stepson works at JPL and he is receiving an award from NASA next Thursday. Don't know if they will show it or not, however, but they might. My husband is going to L.A. for the awards, but I'll be here with the dog (arrrrggg...)
Nymex
I think NYX needs Nymex even though I hate to see what it will do to the NYX share price short term. However, will NYX get Nymex or will someone else?
Any thoughts on any part of this?

Yes, I'm still holding it. At some point, I saw a price target of $34 on it, but not sure where. (I also just feel comfortable with Corning since it has been around so long and seems to be a well managed company). I'm also good now on HPQ and stepped into ACAD the other day - also good. Of course, overall, I'm still down, but if I can turn these around and pick up some more, I'll feel better holding NYX.
Metro, Cool website. I often find myself having to come up with new tunes for movie trailers and shorts, and so I attempt to use Garage Band, which is awesome, but takes a lot of learning and a lot more knowledge of music that I have.
My defenses are weak right now.
I know.
Where are we headed this time?
This must be due to Euronext earnings tomorrow. Here's an article for a fun read.

Thanks, Bill
It helps to have support. I do keep the majority of $$ in an MMA just in case I lose the rest in the market. It helps to have encouragement.
Some thoughts.
I have five stocks, and I'm losing money on four. It seems that if I buy, they drop. Maybe I'm jinxed or something. Wondering if I should just sell everything at a loss, and put my money in an MMA. At least then, I can get five per cent.
Really frustrated.
I was trying to buy and sell some stocks to make some gains so I would've feel so horrible holding on to NYX. That worked for two stocks, but alas, it hasn't happened again.
Stocks down from where I bought them: NYX, GLW, AMAT, HPQ
