Could be?

They allow tuna on the plane, as long as its canned. They do not, however, allow fruitcakes or large blocks of cheese, as they show up on the x-ray equip as having the same density of plastic explosives. They let you keep the cake and cheese, but discourage travelers from bringing it, as it slows down the security process. What a world we live in.
I hope she's kidding. Anybody seen my USB port by the way? What is that? Where is that?

Can anybody recommend a good/stable free download for a dvd player software? I have a dvd drive on my laptop, but need a software/dvd player (like a "RealPlayer" type) to view dvds. Are there any good free downloads out there?
Thanks !

Hey Guys-
Im starting to give in to the fact that the company missed it's boat. I'm REALLY having a hard time putting a positive spin on things, and seeing AT LEAST ONE of the past/present/future projects turning into something tangible in regards to revenue.
I truly think they've tried, but missed deadlines, questionable financing deals, multiple changes of strategies, and lastly bad timing have me at the point of 99% sure the window of opportunity has passed. It sucks, and was a hard lesson to learn, and I dont think it was lack of effort. Nobody wants to be wrong, ever, but our "little company" with the "big technology" is doubtfull to recover. Sorry, not bashing, and if someone could convince me otherwise, that's cool. Good Luck to all who continue to keep the faith.
Respectfully,

The IFE device should be not much larger than an IPOD or Odyssey Player. It will (theoretically) eliminate the need for a vcr or dvd player, and will have the ability to store multiple movies. The concept is to walk into blockbuster, go to cashier, and select movie(s). while you browse the store (or better yet, phone in or email to pre-order movies), your selections are downloaded to the device. The device is then brought home and plugged DIRECTLY into the TV via coax or video in port. This device should eliminate "out of stock" scenarios, as the movies are stored on a master server and can be downloaded by employees on a device on demand. It also eliminates overhead as far as old, worn tapes, scratched discs, etc. This device should fill the gap b4 we are fully movies "on demand" via broadband, which is still 3-5 yrs out, IMHO.

Last but not least, doesn't it seem that FF is stumbling through, like he doesn't give a shyte? He doesn't seem prepared, and can't even answer basic questions about the Odyssey. This is the most uncomfortable feeling listening to this. "I think, And Uh, Hey Ed, what does?, Can I say this?, And Uh, etc...." Pathetic showing.
The longest and most involved part of the meeting was on the Odyysey player, and it ISNT EVEN READY YET, NOR WAS FRED PREPARED TO PRESENT IT. G-D DAMMIT....I'm so pissed off the more I listen.
Sorry again, and if my posts are deleted, I understand, and no hard feeling.
John Q Law
Sorry guys, but gotta say i'm way disappointed this go around. it really feels like "our" company is fading into oblivion. Was it just me, or did it feel like Fred et. all were just going through the motions? Was there no enthusiasm in his voice?
I'm here until the end no matter what, can't wait to see what happens, but i think i'm going to fade away for a while, a long while, and check my edig portfolio (if it even exists) mid 2003. sorry again, my posting past and reputation should let you all know that i'm far from a basher, but today's meeting and info was enough to make me puke. go fred go, show off the latest and greatest device for another year. Puck, Treo, Odyssey, etc. Next years meeting will be DivX, etc. ARGH, so f'n dissappointed now.
See you in a few months....Respectfully,
John Q Law
ODYSSEY gone from J&R?
Can't seem to find it anymore, and clicking on email alert link brings you to generic mp3 page at the site. Remember a while back an email was sent out that said odyssey was now available? When you clicked on that link, it brought you to a page that said "coming soon"....the email was sent out accidentally. NOW, when you click that link, it brings you to generic mp3 player page.....WTF?
I cannot even find edigital or oddysey at all on the whole site. Hey, J&R is small potatoes compared to Best Buy, etc., but again.........WTF?????
John Q Law
Know what sux? My colleague, who has gone on record with me that the Odyssey is superior to the Ipod, in regards to feature sets, price points, etc., has just purchased an Ipod. He came in to work today (long commute) and was all smiles. I asked him what made him so happy this morning, and he reached into his pocket and pulled out the 20 Gig Ipod. He LOVES it, and when I asked him why he opted for the Ipod when the Odyssey had superior features, price, etc., you know what he said?:
"I got sick of waiting".
Nice.

Sent- While I applaud your post, and agree with most of it, the thing that scares the bejesus out of me is that no matter what their credentials may be, or how motivated/hungry they are, we are financially strapped right now. The other corporations had $$ to spend, and were flourishing in much better economic times. One of the oldest rules in business is "....you gotta spend $$ to make $$...", and I fear that our current financial situation is crippling to our management team, regardless of what they bring to the table. Still long, but worried more than ever.

Friday's are generally considered to be bad days for PR's to be released, so I'm not terribly upset that wedigmusic didn't get the official launch today. What does pissss me off though is that in the recent radio interview, Jim Collier said that it was set to launch THIS week. I do find Collier to be a refreshing change compared to prior management, and I do believe he is a man of integrity. However, he is now 0-2 in my book with several important statements....first the 2.6 million in revs, and now w/the missed launch date. You know what "they" say.........
Once = Shyte Happens
Twice = Coincedence
Thrice = Pattern
I'm holding out hope that it is a coincedence, but man oh man...come on already edig.

I'll chalk it up to luck. I've been lucky enough to see Pedro about a 1/2 dozen times the past few years. Seems every time I get tix, he is on the hill. I've had my share of Castillo's and Avery's (UGH), but overall I can't complain. Damon's catch to end the game was cool, and Floyds 1st Fenway HR was cool too. Heartbreaker the other night with Long robbing Manny, but we are still hanging in the wildcard.....Keep the faith. Later

Is SigmaTel a competitor, or do they simply supply Codecs that MOS can use as it (MOS) manages the files, etc.? Anybody? I should have known better than to try and post this on RB, but old habits die hard.
johnqlaw
Great PR, but I'm concerned as to why MOS is not included in these players. Are they digitalway's designs with our name branded on them? Why not our reference design? No mention of multi-codec, etc. Hmmm.... I'm all for new products/revenue streams, etc, but why no MOS? Anybody?

Thanks, forgot it was there. How about Hillenbrand this year, huh? Much better plate disclipline. Also, Varitek's elbow seems to be holding up, and No-No Lowe! Making my 2002 Fenway Pilgrimage next week...hoping for Pedro. Later.

Dataplay Disc Drives?
If memory serves me right, didn't e.digital produce (with Samsung, I believe) an external DP Drive, that connects to the pc via USB? I would like to check out the new format soon, and eventually newer pc's and notebooks will probably have a DP Drive option built in, but until then, is this external DP USB Drive going to be an option ?
The idea is to listen to DP Disks, back up files to them, etc., all via an external USB Drive. Does this drive also function as a DP Burner? Or is it Read Only? Eventually I will buy a DP player (if the format proves valid), but since I've already bought an MXP (and love it), I won't be buying a handheld DP device for a while, hence the need for an external DP Drive.
Sorry for the ramble, but does anybody know (remember) this?
Thanks.

Just upgraded my MXP-100, and the new UI was done very well. It is not close the the IPOD, but it is "Ipodesque". This shows that edig is market aware, and the fact that the upgrade was done so well is a step in the right direction. Let's face facts, edig's strengths are as enginerds and integrators of technology. UI design and look & feel have never been their strength or core competency. All in all a job done well.

Content News (Full Audio):
FullAudio licenses Warner for launch on Clear Channel
By Reuters, 4/9/2002
LOS ANGELES -- Web music firm FullAudio said today that it licensed Warner Music, clinching its third licensing deal with a major record label for a subscription service it plans to launch this month through Clear Channel Communications Inc. radio stations.
FullAudio plans to include Warner-controlled tracks, along with recordings from EMI Group Plc and Vivendi Universal's Universal Music Group on its service through Clear Channel, which will be called MusicNow.
Warner Music is a unit of AOL Time Warner Inc.
The service, which enables users to download songs for a monthly fee, is currently being tested in Phoenix.
FullAudio is providing the infrastructure and content for the subscription to Clear Channel and other distributors, who will then determine their own pricing for the service.
The FullAudio service will compete against major label-backed services like MusicNet and Pressplay as well as start-up Listen.com's Rhapsody service.
All of these services are attempting to provide secure and commercial alternatives to free song-swap service Napster, which has been idled by copyright infringement.
But several other free services like Morpheus and Kazaa have emerged in Napster's wake, challenging the success of these new paid services.
Clear Channel, the leading U.S. radio broadcaster, plans to launch FullAudio for a fee later this month through stations in Phoenix and possibly other cities, a source familiar with the matter said.
Ultimately, Clear Channel will roll out the service on 30 radio stations in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City throughout the spring and summer of 2002.
The service will be branded with individual Clear Channel stations and powered by FullAudio's content and technology.
Pricing for MusicNow is slated to start at $7.49 for the Gold plan, which allows the listener to download 50 tracks per month, which accumulate every month so that the listener would have 600 tracks by year's end, sources said.
By pricing the service at $7.49, FullAudio is undercutting both MusicNet and Pressplay, which are currently charging subscribers just under $10 a month for their most basic service.
Clear Channel also plans to offer a deal known as the Platinum plan, under which subscribers will pay $14.99 per month, allowing them to accumulate 100 tracks per month, or 1,200 tracks in one year, according to sources.
Consumers will be able to preview MusicNow for free for three days, sources said.
