snp teams up with petrobas
s last week came to a close, Brazil's state oil company, Petrobras (NYSE: PBR), signed an agreement with China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (NYSE: SNP), aka Sinopec, in which the latter will receive access to two blocks in the Para-Maranhao Basin off the northern part of Brazil. There may also be cooperation between the companies in Rio de Janeiro's Comperj Petrochemical complex. Beyond that, the countries will cooperate on the development of iron, copper, and coal resources, among others.
The deal was signed amid a Brazilian summit of the leaders of the BRIC nations (Brazil, Russia, India, and China). It fell hard on the heels of an agreement by Sinopec to buy ConocoPhillips' (NYSE: COP) 9% interest in Syncrude Canada's oil sands project for $4.65 billion. Last May, China completed a $10 billion oil-for-credit agreement with Brazil.

sao tome is doing a lot of interesting things right now:
their semiofficial news release stating specific quantities of natural gas and oil in specified blocks of the jdz will put pressure on snp to come clean with results it already knows
2- involvement of sonagel will equilize domination of the eez by chinese operatives
3- their fair treatment of eel and erhe in regards to previous traties will not go unnoticed by other oil cos
4- their decision to auction blocks from london will open up avenues for new involvement in the region
5- their unofficial news release regarding the jdz blocks takes pressure off of erhe and puts it squarely on the shoulders of the chinese
china will add to reserves including liquified natural gas

re: anadarko- actually, the circumstances are quite similar- anadarko was the operator but several other partners had stakes as well- all now know the results and the well isn't finished yet
precisely spec- snp wants to pick up erhe cheap
that's all
anadarko gives out well results BEFORE they've finished drilling
SNP hasn't given out results weeks after finishing
the lie that they need more time is just that- a LIE
http://www.rigzone.com/news/article.asp?a_id=87970
rick rule:
Rule sums it up this way: "When we spend money, we buy services. When poor people spend money, they buy stuff." He points out that China's use of oil is 3% of the U.S.' on a per capita basis. If China were to get just to the demand of South Korea on a per capita basis, which is 16% of the U.S.', then China's incremental oil demand would account for all of current world production.
Not surprisingly, Rule's favorite sector in the resource sector is energy. "Energy is cheap, and it's not going to stay cheap. Gas is the same price as it was in 1980 on inflation-adjusted terms."

afren drills well in november- funny
here are the results!!
http://www.rigzone.com/news/article.asp?a_id=85596
the govt raid and anadarko
the whole govt gestapo raid was instituted by anadarko, which was angry cause they lost block 2 to erhe and had to take block 3 instead
after the govt lawyers inspected the evidence and could find nothing, they put all evidence in storage in order to mollify lawyers from anadarko
now that anadarko has sold out, there was no reason for the govt to keep the old dusty files from erhe and they were returned
thanks for all the replies i received for the posting i previously made
http://www.rigzone.com/news/article.asp?a_id=85134
i agree with the tenor of the replies which was- gee results made available in 6 days!!
sinopec knows pretty well what the results of the 5 wells drilled are but is obviously keeping those results tightly held- probably for the upcoming eez auctions but there could be other business reasons as well- maybe buyout reasons but that of course, would be frank speculation on my part
we'll just have to wait
